LG True Balance UE Error FIXED

  • We’ve owned this washer 5 years. Lately it requires us to run each load 5-6 times, adjusting the load every 20 minutes to keep it going. Over the last 12 months I have searched videos and tips to keep it alive. After following each one, it would improve the reliability, but not fix it. In other words, I still had to babysit the washer some. Replacing the rods made the biggest difference, but this last little trick allowed me to start a load and walk away confident. I don’t even attempt to lay clothing in there in the ‘perfect’ way anymore. I just dump the load in and hit ‘start’ and it’s worked every time!!
    Mending Shed 801-358-4208 get the rods first.
    Disclosure: I am not an appliance repair man(obviously). Try these tips at your own risk. I am not liable for the success of said tips nor your success in applying these tips correctly. Any injury to yourself or the appliance is entirely your fault. In other words; watch at your own risk! Good luck and Godspeed!!

    My wife has fought with ours for years getting off balance. She finally read the manual. It said to run a cleaning cycle and unplug it for 30 minutes to let it reset and It has worked fine ever since and it's been about a month

    What’s the length of the bungee cord? I am seriously considering shooting my LG washer because I’ve had it with this stupid UE error code and wasting water,electricity and time. LG should face a class action lawsuit over this, seriously.
    UPDATE 2/2024: I succumbed and just bought a Samsung washing machine. The springs and bungee cords are not the way for a long term fix. I have had a lot of problems with LG in general in the past decade. Washing machine, fridge and 2 microwaves. All had to be replaced. I’m not buying another LG product.

    You are a freaking genius! Did this (2 28 2022). 3 minute fix. 1 minute to pop the lid. 1 minute to find the bungee in the garage (used the long blue Home Depot one), 1 minute to stretch the damn thing. The tub is rock solid now. Screw you LG and your fancy, faulty technology.

    We've had the problem almost every time we used the machine. After seeing some comments where a tech replaced the control board, I realized that with almost anything electronic, if you unplug it for a a little while, it clears whatever is causing the problem. That's just what we did with the washing machine, and (knocking wood here) haven't had the issue since. Might be worth a try! Good luck!

      Any guidance on about how long you left it unplugged before plugging back in for the "reset"? I am having both the UE issue with a wildly whipping drum - that the bungee cord may have fixed BUT even on an empty rinse/spin cycle it still reads uE after one spin...which is obviously a computer situation. 😩 Super last resort is this unplug/reset.

    • @joeweatlu5169
      @joeweatlu5169 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RaslynRendon Actually we left it unplugged until we needed to use the washer again the next day. Probably only needs a minute or so.
      I wouldn't call it a *_last_* resort, I'd do this before adding bungees or any other fixes. It's the simplest possible remedy.

  • @danielbradford4086

    Ours has been doing this from day 1. The washer is only about 18 months old, it's extremely rare that we get a load through without it shutting down, no matter how carefully we balance the load. I'll try the bungee cord fix. I second the commenter that suggested a class action lawsuit against LG.

    ****After watching this video****, I tilted my machine on an angle. Had my wife hold it still. Leaned down underneath and with a crescent wrench tightened the nut on the center bottom of the drum. There is no panel, it is right there and took 1 minute. It was very loose, at least 4 full turns to tighten up. Re-ran the cleaning cycle and no UE code or issues. It appears problem solved.

    I've got an LG Waveforce WT5070CW and had the same UE issue for months now (bought the washer about 10years ago). All I did was buy the 5 pack of 36" Bungie cords from Harbor Freight and used 4 of them (the ones I got were more squared off with rounded corners and not braided just solid synthetic rubber). A couple tips: once you get the hooks on the bands, clamp them down so they'll stay in place. Also, take the time to tape (I used good ol' duct-tabe) all on the metal so it won't make too much noise. I've run about 12 loads or so now from bedsheets to towels and not 1 UE error. Good luck!

    I just fixed mine and am basking in the sense of self satisfaction. Before you spend money to replace anything rotate the drum by hand and feel for any portions of the rotation that feel “stuck”. This was the case for me and after taking the inner drum apart from the outer drum I found that a pair of my 4yr olds undies had gotten between the two drums and was putting the inner drum off center. While I was in there I also cleaned out the incredible amount of stank that had built up over the years. “Self cleaning”…the hell it is.

    I have the same issue. UE showing up after several years of service and getting worse over time. I found that the pump impeller was worn out and not fully emptying the water. The sloshing water triggered the controller as an uneven load. A new pump fixed it for me, and it's easy to replace.

  • @hmei888
    @hmei888 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I fixed the UE issue by tightening the bottom nut (15/16” hex) with a fixed wrench and hammering in clockwise direction. I was able to tighten the nut by 1/4 turn. I think loose nut is the root cause for most of the UE problem.

  • @captcb72
    @captcb72 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I looked for the bundle at Harbor Freight and saw that it was 38”. I could find one that long so tried a 36” and it looks like my model might have a bigger tub that in this video because I could only connect opposite damper rods to each other, not go all the way around. However, I got 3 more of these 36” cords and connected opposite corners in both directions around the tub. Meaning, each rod is connected to the rod in the opposite corner by two cords in opposite directions. This gives really good stability but I may need to go back in and put tape around the hooks because it’s a little noisy. Much better than buying another $700+ machine!

  • @alexsinclaire1504
    @alexsinclaire1504 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Did you tip the machine back and make sure the center nut is tight? If it becomes loose the rotor position sensor can trip. Also, once the bearings start to fail it can happen, in that case it’s the gear case. I have an LG and haven’t had any issues yet, but own an appliance business and the common issues are: the washplate thread wears out, the nut comes loose on the rotor underneath, or the clutch assembly fails because it’s made of plastic. The other reason you can get a UE is if there are clothes stuck between the outer and inner tub, a bent coat hanger helps there.

    Don't know if you still have this washer. For me I found the the pump wasn't removing all the water. The little rubber check valve was getting stuck. See the pump works fine but right at the end, when the last bit of water was on the bottom, the pump could not open that valve. Replacing that solved my problem.

    I bought two rubber straps, (Keeper A06235Z 35 inch EPDM rubber strap) from the hardware store. I hooked the first strap from one strut/shock (top right) ran around a second strut, (top left) and hooked it to the bottom left. I did the same with the second rubber strap on the opposite side. The whole drum doesn't move as much left and right and up and down. I just started a load with our comforter and it's working great!
    I also had problems with the rubber feet on the bottom. They were really beat up from the years of extra vibration. I bought four online, (part no. ZEN5040FA4226B) and put them on as well.

    My “ue” problem has been getting worse over time and I was growing tired of waiting for the machine to self balance and finish the load. Most times when I opened the lid the load looked fine. I watched this video and another where rubber bands were utilized. Didn’t think bungees or rubber bands would last very long. I found some foam baseballs at Target, 4pak, 2 red 2 blue for $10.99. I placed them at the top of the plastic housing that frames the metal drum, over top of the felt tabs that come from the factory. 1 on each side and front & back of the drum. I’ve only done 1 load, 2 sets of queen sheets that nearly filled the machine. At start-up the washer does a load sensing spin, it bounced a fair amount with the tall load but settled in and completed the wash without a “ue” incident. Seems to have solved the problem but I’ll keep an eye on the initial start-up wobble. Good luck!

    And it is a good thing the load is small with roughly 4 inches of water. Because as it begins to spin, the water rises 2 feet and ready to come right out of the top.
    The sucker then settles down and begint to pour more water, then it does it again.
    No, I shut it down. What else can I do. Possessed son of a biiiiiii.
