    THANK YOU! We've had this washer for 6 years now and over the last year it's been having this issue. Picked up some of these springs at Ace Hardware and had this fixed in about 20 minutes. Ran a big load of towels (which would never have made it all the way through the cycle before) and even though the drum was shaking a lot, the springs stabilized it enough to keep it balanced. This video was a life saver and the fix cost me like $8. I did have to drill two holes in the metal to attach the springs in the front. My washer looks like it was built slightly different and didn't have those square holes in the front. Didn't take more than a minute to do though.

    I've got one identical to this and my does the exact same thing but mine started the out of balance code within 2 weeks of it being new. I cannot stress enough how much I hate this washer. It throws a code at least 8 out of 10 washes. It is level and the spins can be impressively smooth and it will still throw a code.
    Glad you got yours working correctly. I just needed to vent because I was fighting and cussing mine just minutes ago. My blood pressure suffers the most while using this thing.
    Cheers!

      @@stevecounts9277 I just got off the phone with LG out-of-warranty support line. They told me they can't schedule a repair because there's no one available in my area for the next 10 days. "Can't you look past 10 days out?" No. Their system only supports a 10 day schedule. "But never fear" (she literally said), "I will give you the direct line to call back and you can check availability every day." Awesome. The "solution" is to have me call them every day until I can get on their calendar...
      Oh yeah, and this is after the second rep took 10 minutes verifying every piece of information I had just given to the first. She had it all in front of her, but nevertheless would not be discouraged from reading me my model, serial, all phone numbers and address. Maybe their process takes so long that people often change residences in mid-transaction?

    Thank you!! The springs worked perfectly on my WT1001CW. I was able to pick them up at Ace Hardware for about 14 bucks. The springs were a little smaller than the ones you were using in your video but they worked perfect. I had to drill 2 holes in the back of my model so the springs would attach but it was super easy and too about 15 min to do it. I was able to finally finish my load of towels that kept giving me and unbalanced load error. Thanks again, definitely saved me a couple hundred bucks.

    • @stevecounts9277
      @stevecounts9277 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My post is quite helpful, in fact. It helps new people coming in here and seeing your "fix" ... by letting them know before they waste their time (like I did when testing out your "advice") that your fix is wrong for most people with this machine.
      If you bothered to read other people's comments who have this issue, you would know that replacing the control board fixes the UE problem 99% of people with this issue are having. If replacing the board fixes it WITHOUT having to "balance the machine" then obviously, balancing the machine is not the problem.
      Just because YOU felt dumb (your words in another video comment) because YOUR machine wasn't installed correctly, doesn't mean that's the same issue everyone else is having.
      Here's what you said "BALANCE the damned legs. What's wrong with you people? I felt so dumb when I found the solution. I blame it on poorly trained installers."
      Why would you say "what's wrong with you people" and then immediately admit that you "felt so dumb" when it was pointed out to you that your legs weren't balanced?
      That's like someone learning something new and, instead of trying to teach people what was just learned, insulting everyone else who hasn't learned the same information yet.
      Sure hope you're not in the teaching profession, you'd be horrible at it.

    Update. I installed the springs from his link. Someone commented and said they were too small. They are perfect but it will take a lot of muscle, you will sweat and probably bleed. Both of my hands were bleeding from the knuckles and I had a dime-sized blister on my thumb when I was done.
    I attached the springs to the little round holes on the sides rather than the square ones on the front and back as he did. The springs will be tight! It’s a lot of tension but you want that. I think mine have more tension than the springs this guy is using. They are a real bitch to get on. Might want a friend to help.
    Before I installed springs, I couldn’t even run the machine empty without getting the error. Now it gets through the spin cycle on empty, no problem. I haven’t thoroughly tested with various loads but it definitely should work more reliably now. I saw another video where a guy used rubber bands but I doubt they would last. Springs are the way to go. Thank you for the video.

    Owned this model since 2015, started having UE problems about 2 months ago in addition to a noise during agitation that was "err-err-err-err", sort of like a bedframe in the late 80s, early 90s on the weekends or ladies night. I replaced the suspension rods and the noise is gone and two loads without a single UE even though one of them was rocking some. I can totally see how stabilizing the drum high would help, it might be a good idea to have some moderate support up high on that drum as an update if for anything to get a little more life out of the rods. One thing I noted, when the drum is empty, changing the rods raised it over .5" at minimum, maybe even more. The rods are definitely a wear item. Also, I ordered the kit from Amazon and the lubricant provided is some MENACING stuff. It acted like an adhesive with little viscosity, I recommend applying it with a tongue depressor or something like that. I HIGHLY recommend not allowing it to come into contact while directing the stream during relief of fluids.

    I saw that you posted a comment that this didn’t work. I wanted to share that I watched another video for a different LG model but had the “TrueBalance” crappy feature with near constant unbalanced loads and he tied a si hole bungee cord around the tub to fix his problem as he had tried replacing the damper rods and that didn’t work for him either. I took it a step further because I couldn’t find a single length of bungee that would work so I got 4 36” bungees and used them to attach opposite damper rods to each other. Just ran some fleece sheets through and it worked like a charm. Don’t bother with the springs.

    This worked for me. I lost two springs in the process, the buggers are very jittery 😁, but I used zip ties at the two corners, made sure they are tight and everything. Sure, the zip ties might fail due to rubbing against metal, but they are a temporary fix until I get replacement springs.
    Thanks for uploading this video. I hate LG with a passion nowadays. My 1 year old
    LG microwave control panel is very glitchy, my LG regular oven always has cold spots and hot spots, and my washer had the UE error codes.

    My issue started 6 years out. That said I have deep concerns about your fix as these machines are basically the same as the Samsung washers that had suspension failure issues that would blow the machines apart with people actually getting injured. By putting those tensions springs on the way you have them it appears to lift the suspension system put in place by LG and to me that is an awful big risk to take.
    Yes, we live in a world of crappy throw away products that cost a fortune, that's why if I replace this machine I am seriously considering buying the most basic out there. If it lasts even half as long as this pile of junk I will be ahead of the game on what I've spent. If it last longer, I will be way ahead and that's a win, win to me.

    I'm having the same UE problem with my LG washer (same model as this one). I saw another video talking about using springs, but this is the first video I've seen that mentioned the control board, so thanks for that info!
    Does anybody know exactly how the control board senses the tub is uneven? I'm thinking about doing the spring thing on mine, but was curious if that doesn't work, if there's a way to block, or fake out, the sensor so that it never even detects the uneven condition? I'm not worried about the washer bouncing around or even tearing itself apart at this point. I'm so sick of it at this point, I can't even get through one load of light laundry without it going into UE mode. If it tears itself up, fine, I'll get another washer. Just curious if the springs don't work, is there any way to disable its ability to detect an uneven condition at all? Thanks!

    If the UE appears, even when the load appears balanced, or it just jumps from sub 10 minutes back to 22 minutes and refills. This became very frustrating and had been fixed under warranty for this same issue, after 3 years the issue returned.

    I had problems getting my LG washer (this model) not spinning completely out, and repeating rinse cycles .. because of the unbalanced load error. At one point, my water bill was $80. I did replace the main board - but continued to have the problem on heavier loads where articles of clothing were not the same weight. The only fix for me is allowing the washing machine to do most of it's regular cycle - wash - rinse -drain - rinse--drain -- getting the timer down to 19. Then I would Pause the cycle, and switch to Spin Only. Before hitting Start, I will shift the clothes to the center of the tub to balance it. Then press Start. The Spin Cycle starts at 13. It will spin for a few revolutions but unfortunately, no matter what you do it will stop with the unbalanced load error and start a rinse cycle. So I will let it fill with water and as it starts to agitate, I'll Pause it, let the water drain out, then shift the clothes once more - then press Start to Spin again. Unfortunately, this is something that I have to do continuously* - until the timer gets to 6 -- at which point, I am usually home-free -- meaning it will spin out completely. *The key is to know when to Pause it. For example, when it spins for a few revolutions and then stops, it will likely want to refill with water (rinse again). This is the point where you need to Pause it, open the lid, shift the clothes to the center of the wash (for balance), then Start again. Again, if you can get the timer down to 6, you should be home-free. Needless to say, I have to be by the washer during the whole spin cycle.

      I'm sorry about your issues and can commiserate. We have ours about 8 or nine years and it NEVER worked properly. We, too, are always forced to babysit our WT1101CW otherwise we'll come back to a machine filled with water and a UE code. LG was of little help. I just wish I had returned it to HD after the first wash failure. I refuse to spend any money on this piece of garbage and certainly won't be installing four new shocks. If it hasn't worked since new, why should I believe LG when they say spend more and it will solve a problem that existed when it was brand new??? LG, just make a quality product, not a throwaway POS. If installing springs and a bungee cord around the drum doesn't help, this washer is going to the scrapyard. The only bit of satisfaction I have from this experience, is knowing that I have dissuaded a number of friends from ever considering LG products.

    I have the WT1201CV model and for the life of me I CANNOT fix the UE error code. I first tried replacing the control board…didn’t work. I returned it for a refund since it was ~$250. Next I tried the little hall sensor on the bottom of the stator. Still not fixed. Finally I replace all 4 of the balancing rods. Running the drum completely empty still throws the UE error code. Previously replaced (not for this problem) is the water filled ring that sits on top of the drum. The unit is balanced dead level. The last thing I plan (begrudgingly) to try is a new stator itself. Any suggestions? I already bought a new washer but had planned to get this one fixed and sell it to offset some of the cost of my new washer.
    Thanks for any help.

    Good job! Great idea! It's crazy to think you have to try things like this. Seems like LG should have thought of using springs to enhance the shock absorbers function. At past it's not Samsung with the self destruct cycle! LOL.

    Thank you for posting this. I may also add springs on the corners. I've uploaded a video with a couple other tweaks that I find have helped with the overall performance of the washing machine.
    Update: I tested springs on the corners with poor results. Stabilizing at the top appears to make things significantly worse.

    • @pauls635
      @pauls635 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried that as well. The springs listed are too short and pull up the barrel so the sensor can not sense how much weight is inside. This makes the barrel spin like crazy at the beginning trying to sense how much of a load it has. I think that a foam side holding the top may be best but have not tried that yet. What other tweaks have you tried. Rubber-bands have the same effect, just not as bad as the short springs.

    • @johnwalshaw
      @johnwalshaw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bjski4557 Rods are the first item to change. Very easy to replace in my opinion and springs can wear over time. The main board was also needed as it was incapable of running without generating the UE error. Also, very easy to replace. This is where the sensor resides. The spin cycle is quite different now as the replacement board had a newer firmware. It doesn't mean you will never get a UE error when the load is genuinely uneven. There are still occasions I will need to spread the heavy things around the perimeter evenly and set the machine to drain and spin to get it to finish. But compared to before, when the machine literally could not be used, it was worthwhile fixing and yielded much satisfaction.

    • @bjski4557

      @pauls635 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got the springs and loaded them, I did manage to get them on there with the same location, but it pulls up the barrel to high that the sensor can not sense the load and spins out of control. Will try foam on the side to see if that will help.

      My old Kenmore lasted 20-plus years before it bit the dust but my so-called “new” LG washer broke down in less than 3 years. I purchased a 3-year warranty and when it would expire, I would purchase another 3-year warranty. Well now, LG is supposed to return what is left on the warranty because they know that it is no longer worth fixing. Anymore, companies just do not build things to last. Instead, they dole out pieces of junk that need constant fixing and then trashed.

      Just because your machine's legs were unbalanced and that balancing them fixed your machine, doesn't mean that's what's going on with everyone.

And YOU are the one making snide comments about how much time OTHER people have? You define the psychological concept of projection. Just gonna call you Projector Cuartel.
