August 2023: A wee heads up for British riders of these 250w plus bikes on public roads, local constabulary have begun blitzes on any bikes they deem illegal, which includes any type of throttle assist and/or anything on the motor that's above 250w ( I believe they have a tester -but often stamped onto the sides). What shocked me was they're not returning them, so permanently confiscated (crushed). Not sure if that's legal, but something to be wary of. I admit they look to be mostly targeting food delivery drivers in my area (SE), but I'm certain I saw an ADO/Mate/Engine Pro on the back that truck in those social media raids filmed in Birmingham. UK eBike laws are in a sorry state of affairs and nothing is being done about it. :(

They blitzed scooters before they brought out the hire ones. Confiscated everyone's scooter. I thought they'd relaxed this last year though. I watch vids in California of 50 plus people going on massive rides through their cities all on E bikes and E scooters and typical brits are left in the stone age because an old lady got knocked over by a kid on a scooter and the pensioners cried to the government....

@@bluenose7984yeah UK has some draconian pev laws for sure. Things are starting to get reigned in a bit in the US as well as California and NY have proposals on the table to require ebike riders to be licensed. That would mostly impact kids I guess as most adults have a driver's license, but still, it's a step in the wrong direction. You can thank all the bone heads on sur Ron's posting videis doing wheelies down Main Street and 40 mph on sidewalks for that one.

Damn, I'm actually surprised how good the gearing ratio is here; how 'loose' did it feel to pedal at 30mph on highest gear? I got an Engwe EP2-PRO and gotta say I love it but after passing 27km/h (prefer km/h on bikes and scooters or anything relatively slow for more precision) the pedalling on highest gear was impossible; upgraded the from pedal gear from factory 48 tooth to a nice 58 tooth and it's really the perfect spot because now I can still pedal assist at up to around 37km/h-40km/h and I actually now use the lowest gear before I almost always started from the 3rd gear haha tho tbh I love using throttle to set off instead of pedalling when I'm standing on lights just saves you the awkwardness and is just far faster and more stable in general.
PS: the fastest I got my Engwe on a down hill was nearly 50km/h on flat around 45.

It was pretty good to pedal over 20-25. I do find that the Altus gears with 8 rather than seven gears make a big difference. The engine pro was the same. I did a speed test with the engine and the ep2 pro and yeah the ep2 pro is great but you're not really helping over 20.

Not a fan of these massive fat bikes, aesthetically. I much prefer an eMTB frame. I’m glad to see that there’s a lot of options out there though. Every time someone buys an e-bike, it’s another car off the road. Another great video mate. Appreciate ya.

    • @e-VRC

In most cases a family will still keep their car and have an ebike or two as well.
An electric world will only suit a world with a population of around 80% less than today because of available resources.

azzaj. Strange assumption to make, that each purchase of one of these means one less car on the road - it doesn't follow at all. I am an elderly road cyclist who recently went e-assist and I wouldn't ever dream of giving up my car.

    • @MarioGoatse
      @MarioGoatse ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@vincekerrigan8300 I’m not making a scientifically accurate statement here. Of course a car doesn’t cease to exist for every bike that’s purchased. Only an autistic person would take it so literally. My point is that if you’re not travelling in your car, then you’re travelling on your bike, and leaving the car at home. Or if you’re on your bike, you’re not in a taxi or an Uber. There is going to be exceptions. I didn’t think that some nerd would take it as a 100% literal law.

Why it has a passenger seat on the back with no foot pegs and still can't go up a hill is beyond me. @@essex0chris tends to be seatpost weld to the frame and if it’s the Engine Pro on the pivot point of the swing arm. I’ve got photos of goosenecks snapping, front forks failing because of the cheap bearings pivot pins snapping or working themselves out and causing the rear suspension to collapse, mudguards snapping and catching in the forks and causing the riders to have accidents. Most of the people on my Facebook pages are fully aware of most of this stuff so have swapped out the weak points … but if the frame is weak because of micro fractures in the welds how can you spot these if they’re not visible? Chinese hit and run economics, zero quality control. Engwe are the Chinese fentanyl of e-bikes.

Clearly illegal on public roads; I bet you'd whinge if plod confiscated your bike.

Theyll whinge even more for riding it without numberplate, licence and insurance which is what they would need with that thing. That's penalty points and hefty fine, plus potential custodial
sentence if an accident results in a serious injury. At that wattage, it's a motorbike. Very few ppl would ride a petrol motorbike without licence or insurance but they would ride this thing? Too risky imo.

With their low amperage output batteries with sub 18a square wave controllers you can't upgrade. And those threaded forks with fragile ball bearing headsets are positively criminal in 2023!

Do you only watch youtubers that hide issues with bikes? And who are they because the ones I watch don't do that. Engwe aren't perfect and as with all mass producing chinese brands quality control isn't 100%. However that's the same with all brands chinese or not, they just sell loads more so it seems much more common. Engwe have always been happy for me to point out the floors.

@@e-VRC They are cheap so I get that but it's the aftercare that annoyed me. I had a month of sending emails everyday when I had an issue with my Iscooter and it drove me insane ! I have read some heart breaking stories on Trust Pilot where people have been naive. It's very clever advertising and I got stung. I wouldn't make the same mistake twice. It's not worth the hassle. I would honestly rather pay double for a super 7 that I get from a local shop with life time aftercare. I now understand how these companies work and realise it's a choice ? Cheap product and hassle or expensive product and no hassle. I don't have any patience so that doesn't help. All these bikes/scooters come from the same factory. I wouldn't go near Engwe, Cyrusher, Iscooter etc ever again but that is just my choice. You do point out the problems with products but for me, it's the attitude of the Chinese companies. Once they have your money. They don't really give a toss.

locking out sport mode is dumb, i'm guessing maybe the controller starts heating up so they've programmed it to not allow you into sport if it's above a certain temperature. But the same things don't happen on any other engwe bikes so i do not really understand.

@@e-VRC surely that's what happened when they were testing the bike seeing as this bike seems to have a 1500w peak power vs 999w on the engine pro. They should've just limited this one also to 1000.

@JudeTheTH-camPoopersubscribe normal mode does seem pretty fast tbf so if they limited it maybe it would be like having just normal mode anyway but they call it sport mode. As it is it's like we have a power up for a few minutes in every 10 😅
