      I agree completely. I have the white version with the orange second hand. It's a great watch, but the lack of tool-less adjustment on the bracelet is a glaring omission. One of my Citizen (PMD56-2951) watches has a micro adjustment in the clasp, so it should be standard on every modern Omega.

      I agree. It's very aggravating. I love everything about it but the fact that it doesn't have one is leading me to think about selling. It just infuriates me that a watch company of this scale doesn't include with a watch of this level.

    Major detail missed - Caliber 8900 (41mm version only) has a jumping hour hand in place of the quick-set date. Handy feature for frequent travelers that's also on the Globemaster. The downside is that Cal 8900 is thick AF, making this watch a chunker compared to earlier A-Ts. The Caliber 8800 in the 38mm version makes it a fair bit thinner, though it's still thick overall compared to pre co-axial Omegas.

    I absolutely love the Aquaterra but there’s a few reasons why I chose the OP36 over it: 1) the butterfly clasp doesn’t compare to the clasp and micro adjust on the OP, 2) Retail price is 10% more for the Aquaterra and 3) Resale value is so much less than OP

      You often get 10-15% discount on the AT though, at least I got mine for 10% off. You'd never get that on a Rolex, that being said, even getting one at retail is borderline impossible. That being said, an OP for retail is a very nice deal, and I would buy one myself. It is however not feasible to buy one for retail prices.

    I love my white 38mm Aqua terra. I bought it preowned for half the price as new, at the time that used OPs were about the same price. Trying out both watches, it was clear that the AT offers much more for the money in terms of having a date, a nicer dial, and better resistance to magnetism. Great video, I you could have gone into more specs and even a side by side comparison . This felt a little like an AD to go to your website.

    I got the green one 6 months ago. I am still in love with it. I will wear my usual, cheaper rotation and kind of leave this one out because it feels more vanilla than a lot of my watches. But every time I throw it on my wrist, it will catch the light and I will wonder why I don't wear it more often. It is an amazing watch and hasn't lost a second over a solid couple weeks.

    You are definitely correct….. this is an unbelievable beautiful timepiece. I’ve had this exact watch for three years among other timepieces in my collection. Although, I love every single one in my collection, I wear this one the most. This Aqua Terra is underrated and quite frankly no one really talks about it. It makes it really special that not a lot of people having this one. The blue dial is really beautiful and the hour markers on the dial luminate in the dark. I can not say enough about this timepiece. It’s a “must have” in any collection.

    Great review! I have owned this exact AT model since 2018, and it's my #1. Several Rolexes have come and gone in that time, but the blue AT 8900 remains. I think it is better than the OP, Explorer, and DJ in every way.

    Couldn't agree more! As much as i love the simple perfection of the OP/ Explorer 1, i have to agree spec wise and design wise the Aqua Terra blows almost every other GADA watch out of the water for less money at least in the luxury category. I'd rather put my money on the AT, better bang for buck and a gorgeous design

  • @brett2396
    @brett2396 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    While I still prefer the OP, I wouldn’t spend $10k+ on one. At retail, I’d rather have the OP than an AT even though the AT is technically better. The OP is thinner, smaller and I much prefer the design. I never liked the AT dial, it’s too thick (13mm+) and even the 38.5mm version wears closer to 40mm. Compare this to the 36mm OP that wears like a 38mm and is around 11mm thick but wears thinner. For me, I’d rather spend half the AT and get a Black Bay 36. That has most of the great qualities as the OP, a dial I prefer over the AT and is much cheaper. Sure the movement isn’t in house and the finishing isn’t as nice, but I much prefer it for myself.

    The Rolex is a great watch, but double the price of the AT to us mere mortals is crazy (this used but in as new condition). I have the green dial and love it, the dial is fantastic and the hands and indices are insanely reflective in the best possible way. It's a little large at 41mm, but then so is the OP, but it's also slender and wears superbly on my fairly average 6.75" wrist. Only slight complaint is the lack of micro adjust on the bracelet with the butterfly clasp and the fact Omega haven't released a green rubber to match it (black and blue are catered for though). The perfect GADA luxury watch imo.

  • @WatchDanReviews
    @WatchDanReviews 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I wear my 41mm chrome dial/blue hand AT day and night. It fits every occasion from pool day to date night. It’s also keeping about 0.3 seconds fast per day on wrist and off. My only complaint is that the lume on the minutes hand can blend with the lume on the outer track at times, making it hard to pinpoint-but the lume is bright as hell all night, so a tiny imperfection on an otherwise awesome watch. My favorite aspects are the slightly (double) domed and flush crystal and how the case is not perfectly slab sided-you can’t see this in the videos, but it tapers inward a little from top to bottom. So many subtleties make this watch really fun to own! I got mine for $4,000 lightly used! And since I want a date window, I would want a Datejust, but I could buy 3 aqua Terra’s for the price of a comparable datejust 41 with money left over. If you’re on the fence, just buy the AT!

    Great watch overall. My main gripe with it is the clasp. There should be an option for clasp with micro adjustment. I tried all combinations of removing links and half-links but it is impossible to achieve comfortable fit with the stock one. Another minor gripe is that the omega logo on the crown never aligns nice. It is always sideways when you screw it down.

    So yes, I have an Aqua Terra. Mine is 8 years old and does “Gada”. I have the grey older style, with date window at the 3. And I like it well enough- that I gave my daughter the 38 mm version, small seconds, as a graduation gift when she completed her doctorate. And while my wife wears a Rolex or a Cartier- I’m good with this 80% of the time. The other 20%- are micro brand beater times.

    The biggest con to the Omega Aqua Terra that you conveniently didn't mention, and is pretty obvious to a watch collector, is the fact that the bracelet has a butterfly clasp. This is huge disadvantage and disappointment compared to the easily adjustable bracelet on the Rolex Oyster Perpetual. This butterfly clasp cannot be easily adjusted, and one needs to visit a jeweler every time they need to have the bracelet seasonally adjusted. People who can afford luxury watches don't have the time for this nonsense; for them, time is the precious commodity. Also, unlike Rolex's sport watches (like the Submariner or the Daytona for example), the Rolex Oyster Perpetual and the Rolex Datejust can be ordered at a reputable dealership. You may have to wait approximately three months, but it's worth it. Bear in mind, that if I wanted the Omega Aqua Terra in 38mm on an easily adjustable rubber strap, I also would have to wait. The Agua Terra in 38mm is more popular than the 41mm due to the fact that both the 38mm and 41mm Agua Terras wear much larger than their numeric sizes would indicate. Rs

    You missed out on the fact that the co-axial movement requires far less service and will last longer as the movement has far less friction wear than a traditional pallet fork movement. Rolex says 5 years, Omega ADs have told me 8-10 years is about right. That means less frequent service, which can be had for $550 for a full service by Omega, a massive cost difference from Rolex, plus they send you your old parts, something Rolex will never do. Rolex is expensive jewelry that tells time. Omega is an awesome time piece at a reasonable price.

    Ey! Currently wearing mine (the light blue dial with the blue seconds hand) and I have to agree on all fronts. It actually took me a while to wear it daily over my BB58, but at some point it clicked and now I can't take it off. Works at a wedding, works at the pool and works when you're just chilling at home with jeans and a shirt. Only con is lack of micro adjustment--it's getting pretty hot here in Miami.

    This is my daily driver. I am still smitten with after a month. This is what I got from it so far. It is a very good looking watch and very comfortable. I'll say the micro adjust doesnt bother me since I wear my watch loose. The thing I wish it had was better lume. It really not good at night. It helps with low light though. Water proof is great thing to have and not too chunky like dive watches. I have a dress watch and a G shock, but the AT can be my only watch.

      I didn't care for the bracelet, so took it to the Omega boutique and had the blue rubber strap put on. It's more comfortable, lighter and makes the watch look fantastic.

      @@romanmichaelhamilton8729 I wanted a rubber one too to change things up and be more sporty. I heard you need to buy three separate things and only mailed to AD. I heard it is a bit pricey too.

      @@alexlilano1931 Yes, correct but you can actually have the swap done at the Omega boutique which is what I did. They have a qualified tech at each store that can easily make the swap. Yes, it is quite pricey as you have to pay for the strap, the strap mount and the deployment clasp which total up to I believe $600. I need to check my receipt, but it's in the that price range.

    This was my first luxury watch and still a daily wear. Only con for me is the straps are not easily changed. First place I took it to gouged the caseback trying to get the rubber strap on.

    I bought a new 41mm black aqua terra about a year or so ago, love it. Best watch I own, comfortable (got it on the rubber strap), lovely looking dial, great movement, power reserve is awesome, for me fits all scenarios, looks good with a shirt and tie or shorts and t-shirt and a display case back. I also managed to get about £800 pounds off rental price which was the cherry on the cake!! The only thing for me is the screw down crown is small for my fat fingers!! :)

    I agree but Omega's branding is too convoluted. It is a seamaster and also an aquaterra -- seems unnecessary to be double branded, especially confusing give the 1000+ watches they sell. In this regard they could learn from Rolex.

    Yup; agreed! And I'd say the same thing for similar reasons of the SMP300 over the Sub, and the Speedy or even Speedy 38 over the Daytona. (And yeah, I own both Omegas, and would add I got both AD for less than the GM price of a Sub). Rolex though wears the crown on the President, and also the Datejust...both way beyond the Constellation imho. DeVille over Celleni but honestly Grand Seiko head and shoulders over both (and yeah, own GS). With Omega, the METAS is hard to beat, the dials and especially the ZrO2 dials under macros just look spectacular, the display backs, the co-axials with 10 year service intervals, etc., etc...

    It was my first luxury watch, but I work out in the field and found it a little too heavy and not able to micro adjust it. No t-fit glide lock etc. I put a Artem strap but it’s not like my Rolex submariner white is lighter and easy micro adjustments. I wish Omega had done it two years ago.

    I have the blue with the 8800 but with a leather strap. Those mid links are scratch magnets. The leather doesn't seem to be as available as the bracelet on Chrono24 and other places for some reason. It still has the clasp and lacks micro adjust but you can at least punch a whole where you want it in leather

    I opted for a Globemaster on a strap. Wonderful watch, insanely accurate, and a beautiful design. The carbide steel fluted bezel captures the light well without scratching.

    I heard that the Aqua Terra has glare resistant coating on the crystal, on the inside and outside, whereas Rolex OP does not have it at all. If this is true that’s a big deal. Glare really limits legibility.

  • @KMV007
    @KMV007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    But it’s not half price, it’s actually more expensive than the OP.
    Also, you will lose money on one the moment to walk out the door of the AD, which is not the case with the Rolex.

  • @ivanharlokin
    @ivanharlokin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It's nice, but it seems to me that Omega somewhat self sabotage;
    1) AR coating on the outside - cos a scratchable coating on a non-scratch material is a good idea?
    2) No border on the date window - looks unfinished and unbalances the dial.
    3) Wide arrow pointer on the minute hand - doesn't make sense without a rotating bezel.
    4) No on-the-fly adjustment for the bracelet - not really acceptable at this price.
    5) It costs about the same as a Seamaster 300, which has much better specs. At least Rolex's price structure (if you can get one) makes some sense.

      Rolex gets a lot of hate these days and for very good reason. Some of the stuff they are doing is pretty shitty but the haters keep forgetting one thing. Rolex still makes an amazing watch. For some tastes and some wrists, it is still the best option. Sure there are watches that look as good at a lower price with similar quality but if they don't fit you right, what good is it?

  • @seanelstob5922

    I would always choose Omega over a Rolex but my worry with the Aqua Terra is that it looks to be a scratch magnet. The one in the video is an example. Prefer the brushed effect on my Seamaster 300 and would like to see something a little more robust & practical on the Aqua Terra.

  • @jamesminshall4601

    Err, but the aqua terra has a bracelet with neither micro adjustment or on the fly adjustment so the bracelet option is pointless for people that don’t want their watch to flop about loosely on the wrist. The omega also has too many polished surfaces making it look blingy. I would love some omega's but with poor bracelets and dismal clasps I don’t give them a second look.
    I really love the look of the railmaster but I’ve discounted it as the bracelet won’t work for me.

    I looked at the Aquaterra but don’t like anything over 40mm so I ended up getting an Omega Railmaster and the Christopher Ward Sealander with the white dial. Love the CW and its on the fly micro-adjust is far superior to the butterfly clasp from Omega. That butterfly clasp is my biggest gripe on my Omega Railmaster, it’s either loose or tight. You can have both watches for new Aquaterra money.
