I'm comparing the brand new Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 Edition with the Apple iPad Mini. Two 8-inch premium tablets are competing with each other. One runs Android and the other one iPadOS. Both feature active pen support, both have very powerful hardware, and I enjoyed using both a lot.
Which small mini tablet do you prefer?

I can't understand how they ship the Y700 with such a huge UI. I had to change my DPI via ADB on my 2022 version just to get most apps to open in their tablet layout (unless you do this, you will RARELY get the tablet version, even with apps like TH-cam). Do they assume that everyone has horrible eyesight? I don't understand why people want a tablet that has less information density than their phone! If I did a review of this tablet, I'd do it with a more appropriate DPI. The Y700 tablets simply should not be used with the out of the box DPI (you can always make the fonts bigger after changing the DPI). It's so weird to me how older 16:9 phones and tablets are more useful as far as DPI goes just because there's this trend in modern UI design to make everything look like it it's designed for people who need glasses but never wear them. The point of a bigger screen is to cram info into a bigger viewport! Why would I want fonts to be twice as large as they are on my phone? It just confuses me the more I think about it. Phones used to have DPI sliders that actually made things tiny if you wanted it to, and now the "small" setting is still way too big.
I also can't understand how Apple thought it was okay to ship a tablet that has vsync tearing. Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave. I would own an iPad Mini if it didn't have this issue. A tablet that powerful having screen tearing (the jelly effect) is unacceptable when I have a stack of decade old ewaste tablets that don't have this issue (and a few that do, my Kindle Fire HDX 2013 has the worst tearing I've ever seen on any android device).
Yes, as you can see, because I understand a lot of things, it makes it difficult for me to understand a lot of things. Yay, life. 😂

I had a Mini 6 with apple pen 2 but decided to send them back, considering that was like 700$ ish total vs. the y700 2023 16gb 512gb from Aliexpress being like 440$ after taxes with the pen. I'm still waiting to receive the tablet because it's coming from China but I think it'll be worth it.
I also just prefer android and never been into Apple products. The hardware spec differences and price is just too much to ignore, for me. I want to play emulator games and it's harder to do in the Apple environment.

I've been tethering for so long that I would feel like I was wasting money if I had an LTE tablet on a plan. Trust me, once you get in the rhythm of tethering to your tablet every time it needs internet on the go, you'll think it's a bit silly to consider the lack of LTE on a tablet to be a dealbreaker. With that said, I understand extreme niches, so if you are hoping to use it to replace your phone (something that's hilariously actually a relatively practical thing that can be done, especially if you carry a purse or book bag everywhere) then I guess it may truly be a dealbreaker.

Eventhough I'm not a fan of Apple, the iPad mini has always been in my radar because of its petite size. Next to any foldable phones, it still makes a lot of sense today. The A15 Bionic chipset is still a great performer, but 4GB RAM can be a bit of a problem for multitasking.
I also love the Lenovo, especially the hardware, but availability and after service can be a bit of a nuisance since it only comes as an import.

You forgot to mention that Ipad Mini has noticeable jelly scrolling issue and although Apple says it has cellular option, they don’t tell that Ipad mini wont accept direct call and Apple requires the user to also have an Iphone to redirect the call Ipad Mini recieves to the Iphone which is nuts cuz you will still pay the full $100 additional cost just to have cellular capabilities thats deliberately crippled by Apple’s greed. A somewhat decent review. I love both devices but as far as it goes, LY700 is a gaming focused device rather than it's competitors. It might lack some features but in gaming, it would be the best out of all Android tablets in the market. Samsung tabs are literally big and not for gaming focus. Different purpose I suppose.
I don't care about the details if they're clean or not, when you shoot someone, you won't bother about having blurry walls, you just play and have fun. And edit the settings to make sure you'll get the proper looks that you want for the game 😂 Ipads have more bs people than Android ones.

I have both or rather my sister has the ipad mini 6 and i have the legion y700 but she doesn't use her ipad so i use both,
Genesin impact the difference between both at max setting is 2fps so really un noticeable, the ipad has a better processor but honestly unless you are for some odd reason rendering videos on Your ipad mini it's not going to benefit you atall.
The ipad is limited, you need to pay for TH-cam and you get ads on every, the screen gives me motion sickeness and you get massive black bars for content consumption as the aspect ratio is dumb
On the legion you can install revanced and it's very easy to set specific games to not use internet so you will never need to enable airplane mode to get rid of ads, and it's also simple to set dns, the screen is honestly twice as good and the 144hz is beautiful.
Genesin at 80fps with one setting down vs the ipad which can do max 60 and it's not even a competition, even at max setting the ipad is only 2-5fps better in extreme cases but that's really only with genesin, with any other game you won't be able to use the power as the legion can push well over 60 and the ipad is limited.
    The legion is better at
    Gaming
    Feel
    Battery life
    Content consumption
    General use
    Open system to do anything
    Mini 6 is better at
    Drawing
    Rendering 4k videos
The feel is honestly the same, this dude is just an apple shill
While i do 100% agree that the ipad pro is the absolute best tablet without comparison, you take a real F for even suggesting that the mini is compatible to the legion y700 2023.

    • @ZubinSaxena
      @ZubinSaxena 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I don’t why you’re so butthurt. He doesn’t sound like a shill at all. The whole TH-cam adblock thing is an ios vs android thing. Ipad mini is a couple years old at this point while Lenovo y700 just launched. The biggest issue with lenovo is no global version which means you have to import it using ali express with a custom firmware and risk it having some kind of malware and having no official support for updates (I think).
This means you cant use the lenovo for anything finance related, no bank apps, credit card information etc, so no shopping, surfing the web logged into your accounts etc, even connecting it to your gamepass account would seem risky.

Outside the jelly scrolling I don’t see any other issue. I find a 10” screen too small for most multitasking, so don’t miss it here. And I just airdrop my work to my Mac or iPad Pro if I need it bigger. I had Samsung for a bit, and I was sold on Dex. But I never came across a situation to actually come in handy. The set up is more convoluted than switching on my Mac. On my tab s7 the 11” screen is too cramped for a desktop set up, and more niche apps I use just bug out on it.
I play around with the competition, and have a surface pro 8 in the house, but I always end up falling back to Apple for daily use. The only real problem I find with Apple that it’s boring.
