Just got mine today. Going to use it for reading apple news and kindle and also to take to work. I have a ipad air 5th gen with the M1 at my workstation mounted and connected to an external DAC and headphone amp. Its my media machine while I am working.
well I bought one last summer.. upgraded all of my apple stuff last year! iphone 13pro, ipad mini 6 and the star of the show, m3pro 14".. I use the macbook for most stuff but the ipad is great for kicking back with some lighter stuff when the phone would be a little small. Mostly use it for youtube, web and occasional sketches with a cheap amazon pencil
Sold my 12.9 inch iPad pro to buy one of these a while ago and don't regret it. Not being able to hold for longer than 20mins when consuming media and having to place on a table when sketching on the iPad pro turned out to be a deal breaker and meant I barely used it. Being able to hold in one hand an take notes in the other meant I could stand in meetings and still take notes and also was more likely to pick it up and take to meetings in the first place. Being able to hold it for longer than 20mins for media consumption meant I could use in in places like on the underground, waiting areas and on the sofa and again more likely to pick up and take with me the first place.
thanks, that’s what I needed to hear. Just bought a mini 6 used with 256GB for 400€. My guess is I can sell it for 300€+ any time to upgrade. I guess I will not feel like spending 800€+ for a new mini 7 ones it comes out and the differences might be not that big.
I own both. I use my 12.9 iPad Pro as my computer for productivity. I never take it off the Magic Keyboard. The iPad mini I use as my media consumption device when at home. Saves the battery health on my iPhone.
Apple should continue to release iPad mini and iPhone mini devices. They don’t need to be released every year. They can have a longer refresh cycle due to lower sales numbers, but even then they still sell millions of units. They do need to engineer them with full pro features. The people who want smaller devices don’t want to compromise on features.
Totally agree, I bought mine over a month ago and it’s been with me for everything 😅 note taking, creating slides for presentations, reading. Second device for teams meeting TH-cam watching.
Just bought the iPad mini last week. Coming from a Mac Pro and iPad Pro, which I was using for work. Figured out a new work flow that doesn’t need the iPad Pro. I love the iPad mini. My favourite device. And I’ve owned most of apples devices. I stood in line years ago to get the first iPad mini
Get it. I just got one a few weeks back on Amazon for $100 less than list. Favorite iPad so far. Don’t even notice it’s smaller. Fits in my back jeans pocket and is so portable to travel with. I used to have a 1st gen 11 inch iPad Pro and like the iPad mini 6 even better.

Just replaced my iPad Pro for an iPad mini 6 and love it. Small, portable and when it is inside my backpack I can’t really notice it. And paired with the MacBook it makes the perfect companion.
As a daily work-note user of an iPad mini 6 (using Goodnotes - awesome app!) I absolutely love the mini 6. I squeeze a huge office dry erase board PDF template into the mini and pinch and zoom in and out of my notes as needed. Then at the end of the shift I save out the pdf into iCloud, where it will live for a few weeks in case I need to reference it, and I then blank out the pdf master - now ready for next shift. Mark, thanks for the link to the alternate pencil, too. I might look into that! EDIT: And a public service announcement if one is using Papperlike.... Clean the screen off ever so often! Especially if the 'grab' of the paper-ness is faded. It just needs a screen clean.
I have the ipad mini for 2 years now, and it completely changed the way I take note. I used to have many notebooks with me in order to organize life - work. Now, it's just this tiny device.
I feel your pain. My gen 5 is so old it recently joined a senior citizen pickleball league. I’ve been debating just settling for a gen 6 but I know how that sneaky weasel Tim Apple operates. He’s waiting on me to finalize my purchase to drop that iPad mini 7 keynote.
I definitely agree. I had mini 4, mini 6 and in 2022 I switched to 11’ pro. I’d love to come back to mini because of its size - but -> I need 120 hz display and same pencil features as on pro version.
I don’t get it. Where do you guys live? I am based in Germany and I have never ever seen a person using an ipad mini. Literally everyone is using a 12.9 inch Pro or an 11 inch Pro. Very rarely I see people with a normal ipad or an air, but never a mini. That’s why I do not get when people praise the mini.
I'm a fan of the Mini line but my answer is 'no'. The device dates from 2021 and we're in 2024, which is a lot when you consider the price of the device (not forgetting that in Europe the price of this device has jumped by €200 for no reason in 3 years). What's more, with hindsight, if we put aside the aesthetic change, the mini 6 isn't much different from the mini 5. When the mini 6 came out, I was tempted to sell my mini 5. In the end, I'm still with the mini 5, which after 6 years is still supported by iPadOS and still meets my needs (ebooks and multimedia consumption).
well in my country, Malaysia almost of Apple authorised resellers don't stock any ipad mini 6 anymore unless I buy Apple online so that could be an indication
Mark, I really enjoyed the video. The video feels vivid. It's not that old same youtuber stuck on a chair and talking. Yours is more lively (sorry I'm not English and maybe you don't get the idea). Keep up the good work, you're doing great!. Btw, I'm buying this iPad Mini 6 and will be using my 2017 iPad Pro just for media consumption (battery is almost dead).
Definitely waiting for the iPad mini 7 to see if they will move the screen controller back to the top in portrait orientation. Jelly scrolling is too much for me in the iPad mini 6 in portrait.
😅😅😅😅 you got me!! I am the one, waiting, checking the air, checking the mini .. back and forth! I think u are right! I buy a mini 6 and don’t wait longer! Thanks man
Omg Mark, ditto ditto ditto, you sound like me! I am 72 years old, I sold my 15 Pro Max for the S24 Ultra, better camera, more options, etc. I bought the new 2024 ipad Pro 11" last week, had it 2 days, thought, what the hell do I need this for it's too big, £999 mistake take it back quick, I bought the magic keyboard as well, heavy as hell and just did not lile it. Returned both to Apple, ordered ipad mini today from Apple £499, arriving tomorrow, it's a better size for me for emailing on etc. When and if Apple releases an iPad mini 7, I'll buy that and give the 6 to my 88 year old husband for his TH-cam films and music, etc. I am looking forward to receiving it tomorrow. My little portable powerhouse! ❤😊
I have been using the iPad Air for a few years now, and I absolutely love it. It's a good device to just carry around and use. I am not sure if I could ever get any smaller when it comes to a tablet, but I do have a couple friends that use the iPad mini. I also have been using the iPhone SE (2020) since it came out, and I love it. These devices just do what I need, and I am rarely on my phone anymore. Literally just for checking emails on the fly, but other than that, messaging and phone calls.
I have an 11" iPad Pro that just sits there collecting dust; I'm going to reach for my phone or sit at the computer 99 out of 100 times. I only recently purchased the iPad Mini 6, to use with mobile trading apps, because of the low low price of $380! Now I can fall asleep to TH-cam, check charts without getting out of bed, and have a fully charged phone in the morning!
I bought mine last 2022, my first option was ipad air 5 but was never available at the time so I bought the ipad mini 6 instead. No regrets and I love it so much more. So light to bring, can take notes anytime and can play games with my feminine hands. I think I can keep this for 10 years and never give to anybody ever😅
I would love to see an iPad Mini 7 with a proper 4:3 screen size that’s closer to 9” diagonal, mini-LED, and support for the Apple Pencil Pro. If they can do this while making it thinner like the new Pros, it would still be light and I’d snatch that up in a heartbeat, but you’re right: If it doesn’t come soon then I’m just going to get a Mini 6 despite its flaws.
I regrettably just sold my Mini 6 and immediately had seller’s remorse. Got a refurbished 11” Pro as I wanted to be able to log in to my work cloud VM and have enough screen real estate to perform tasks. And for that got a refurb Magic Keyboard. Now it may work out just fine but right now I feel as though my whole use case will change. Time will tell but if and when a mini 7 comes out, I’ll more than likely go back.
I sold my Kindle device and iPad9, and my iPad mini is just amazing as my one device for my reading and also streaming! I don’t need my larger iPad and Kindle anymore!
@@julilla1 Yes, indeed. Most especially if you have the paperlike screen protector. It feels like you’re reading on a paper. Moreover, this iPad is not heavy.
There are a lot of people waiting for the iPad mini 7 myself included I want to get my wife one or maybe a mini 6 at a discounted price when the new ones come out. She’s not in a hurry she has her mini 4 so we wait.
I have a iPhone 13 Mini and I love it! Got it in the dark green. I’m buying an iPad Mini this week. Been on the fence for a bit now. Think I’m just gonna go for it
I bought a 256GB iPad mini 5 for 1/3rd the price of an iPad mini 6. I didn’t want that jelly scroll screen. Fingers crossed for an improved iPad mini 7.
I have one and don't use it as much as I thought, but also pause every time I think I should just sell it.... and this video was an emotional tour de force.... 😁
I think the iPad mini 6 is amazing… but if I was in the market for a new iPad mini in 2024, I’d definitely wait for the iPad mini 7. We’re almost halfway thru June and the new iPad mini should arrive this Fall in a few months.
I’ve been saying that I’m waiting impatiently for the 7th Generation, but your video did make me look up how much I’d need to spend to get a 6th Gen now. (I’ve already found out the trade-in price for my 5th Gen.) At the moment, I’m sticking with mine - that might have been different if I’d got an iPhone with USB-C, but I’m still using lightening. Thanks, as always.
In December 2023, I purchased the iPad mini 6. My existing tablet, an 11-inch iPad Pro from 2018, proved to be too cumbersome for daily transport. Ideally, I would have preferred to hold out for the iPad mini 7, but patience isn't always my strong suit. Ultimately, I'm content with my decision and find myself in complete agreement with your observations.
I have both the Mini 6 and the S24Ultra both great devices! I love sketching and writing on my S24U more - it just feels better than the iPad Mini 6 with a paperfeel screen protector. I love painting on the Mini 6 only because of the iPAd only apps. Looking forward to a Mini 7 with proper File management app and screen tiling!
Funny enough, this is my favorite iPad outside of the Pro. I recently just sold my M2 iPad Pro for a M1 Pro MacBook Pro after the M4 reveal. I miss having an iPad and always saw the Mini as the perfect iPad to have regardless of use case scenarios. So yes, I can't stop thinking about this iPad mini because I want one! 😂
I have an iPad Air 4 and it’s an amazing machine, but it’s too big for me now. I always have to get big backpacks or purses just to fit it when most of the ones I use aren’t big enough. This mini 6 will be perfect for my university work and I can leave slightly bigger projects for my iPad Air at home, use it for gaming or as an extra monitor, while I use the mini for writing, media enjoyment and comfort overall. I’m ordering mine tomorrow, I’m so excited!
I'm using the pixel fold... And that is like an iPad mini, but also a phone, that you can actually handle... Love your videos Mark, you put a lot of love into these projects and it really shows.
I just bought a screen cover from Astropad that also came with two Apple Pencil tips the size of a regular #7 pen tip. It literally writes like pen and paper. I looked at the one featured here but still the thick imprecise pencil tip. I’ve had the Mini 6 since it came out and it’s my go to device at home. Now with the Astropad I’m also taking it to work and actually using the Notes app like I had intended when I bought it.
I'm still using my ipad mini 5. Definetly, mini 6 will be my next ipad. Specially now that the new App, Delta is very well implemented in ios. I'm gonna be enjoying some good retro games.
Grabbed an M2 iPad Air last week but I keep grabbing my iPad mini 6. It’s just that good overall. Returned the M2 iPad Air. Guess I wasn’t ready to ditch the mini 6
I almost ordered an iPad mini 6 new from Amazon for $400, but then I saw a refurbished Pro 11 from 2018 for $300 😳 so I bought it, and I absolutely love it, but unfortunately, it just doesn’t travel like the mini ! So I’ll still probably buy one soon 😂👍
I literally still use the original iPad mini for mixing audio at my church 😂😂🤣 It’s so slow slow but does the job I absolutely love the mini for those tasks and note taking! Only ask… Pro Motion 120hz
I really liked the fact in this vid you recommended buying used or refurbished. Nice vid very creative and the editing was great. Now make one of the things you hope next gen ipadm gets, realistically vs fantasy. Thanks!
i currently have a pro model which is wonderful and i am super grateful for being able to use it but i’ve come to realise its not for me😭 got it initially to draw because i thought it was a passion of mine after being told drawing is a profession i should dive into for years but after having it for a few years i now know drawing is more of a hobby i indulged in often rather than a passion. what use is a pro if i dont use it for the things it was designed for?😢
I already have it. I only use it for social media and it's perfect for me. I had a base model iPad which didn't like. I loved the build quality but it's too big so I donated it to my church. I'd love to see an Led screen and a high refresh rate but it's already paid for so I'm going to keep it.
All pretty good points. I'm still using an iPad Mini 2, although I also have an M2 iPad Pro 11". But I'd still like a Mini 7 with an A17 Pro chip (which is in the iPhone 15 Pro), with newly designed more rounded edges to make holding it more pleasant. An OLED display with no "jelly role" would also be a plus. 😊
I love my 6th gen mini. It’s more than 2 years old but it’s my favorite iPad. Waiting for the folding iPad otherwise you can pry this from my cold dead hands.
My 10.5" iPad Pro from 2017 is still holding up pretty well to this day. It has the right size for me to watch Series and play games. The Mini is still a little bit to small to keep watching for a longer time periode. So unless this thing breaks i can just sit back and wait for the new devices to come :)
I was lucky to get my iPad Mini 6 Cellular for 50% off brand new on Amazon back in July. I think it was a price glitch as the price only appeared for a few minutes and then shot back up after I purchased it. Amazon is definitely worth looking at as you can occasionally see steep discounts. I kept it in the basket and kept looking daily to see if the price dropped. The iPad Mini 7 is supposed to only be a minor upgrade, with mainly only the chip getting an upgrade but it'll look identical and will have the same LCD screen. So I don't see why it's worth waiting for. I love the iPad mini 6 and won't upgrade until they eventually bring OLED to the iPad mini which is rumored to be in 2026. The iPad is the only thing in my house that is still had LCD screens and that's the only irritating thing about it
I actually just got one last week. This is another great product that becomes mostly unnoticed from being named in the vein of something small or basic like "SE" or "mini". Apple needs to find a way to market the SE devices having an older body with a newer chip and mini devices as nearly as good as the pro, just in a small package.
I use my iPad 6 every day for gaming and watching shows. If I lost it, I would not get another iPad 6. My main reason is that the storage is so small in the default model that I can't update it without uninstalling the only game I have installed (Genshin Impact). Not having an Mx chip, it also won't be able to be used in some of the iPad OS features. I'm looking forward to the next version of the Mini more than I am looking forward to replacing my iPhone Mini.
I have the iPad mini 6 and I swear it is one of my favorite iPads, It gets the most use. It does everything I need. It’s super portable. I also own a 12.9 inch and an 11 inch both of those are pros, I really don’t need a role model but I love them anyway. The iPad mini 6 is just so easy to throw in a bag or throw in your purse and use it on the go. I just can’t say good things about this awesome iPad.
Kills me that it doesn't have FaceID at least. Just switched from Samsung S23 to iPhone 15 (luv both) but FaceID no contest, even thou Samsung has upped the game.
Thank you for this video. I have been considering the iPad Pro 12.9 inch. The price is quite high and it is a big iPad but it makes much more sense to get an iPad mini which is more portable.
I’m waiting on the mini 7. I just need them to fix the jelly scroll (by fix, I mean move it to the horizontal orientation as the screen tearing is there on all displays) and hopefully we’ll get a base storage increase to 128gb and better battery life. I bought the mini 6 at launch and had to return it because the jelly scroll gave me motion sickness 😢.
I’m looking at the iPad mini 6 again.ive bought and return at least 3-4 times. I still wanna buy the mini 6 because i do love the portability. My goal is to find it thee absolutely the cheapest price. I still would love a mini with a 120hz screen and it would be perfect
I got the iPad mini six recently. It’s great for when I’m in the gym and I want to watch a video where the Pro Max screen was too small to be enjoyable. The same is true for when I do a trip, I take the iPad mini six with me where a regular iPad would be too big. Also I need to reference documents at work and the Pro Max screen is too small, regular iPad too big to carry around, whereas the iPad mini six is the perfect size. Also the Pro Max was too big to be used as a phone so getting the iPad mini six allowed me to exchange the Pro Max for the iPhone Pro model. Regarding cost you can get the 64 GB and Wi-Fi only version secondhand for a good price.
Apple raised the prices on these, Seeing a 256gb wifi only version for £749 on most sites you used to be able to buy the 256gb with cellular for that, Is it really worth paying all that money for am older device now?
IMO, Apple made a mistake discontinuing the iphone mini. I LOVE mine and have no intention of upgrading any time soon. My first ipad will be the mini, so I appreciate you insights and recommendation.
@@TravisBasson virtually every reviewer raves about it. But when I tried it a few years ago, admittedly an older version, the colour distortion was dreadful. It looked like the screen was wet.
The iPad Mini, at least for me, is the most iPad of iPads. It does what Steve Jobs said was its purpose as a middle device whereas the bigger ones can be pushed into service as a laptop replacement. I love it. BUT the bugs annoy me, specifically the keyboard one which I’ve had since day one. I’m not sure it is just the mini or every iPad, but if you split the keyboard it tends to migrate up the screen. I have to split in portrait mode and go to landscape mode to get it to stick to the bottom and that doesn’t work every time, or even most of the time. But it’s a mere annoyance rather than a deal breaker.
Lol! Same. I have been doing this for a whole year. I made a mistake of believing the "rumors" of ipad mini 7 on youtube. I can believe I wasted so much time. Finally bought it 5 days ago. All these rumors of pro chip in mini 7 are bullshit, there is no way Apple will be putting pro motion and A17pro chip in mini. Price will be higher than ipad air. I just gave up.
I want a mini 6. I had one but I sold it before I found a good use case for it. But I’m scared I’ll regret it if the 7th gen comes out later this year 🤣
It’s funny I apparently do things backwards a I bought the iPad mini then minutes later came here for a review lol. I love the size and if I could get an iPhone this size I’d love it

Watching this on my iPad Mini 7, my first iPad Mini, and I love it!
The mini is so good to read on.
I was so happy when I bought a little cut and tiny combo 13 min and mini 6. I’m still enjoying them thanks God
Best Buy has the mini 6 on sale right now brand new for $399 usd. I’m so tempted.
I think the iPad mini 6 is amazing… but if I was in the market for a new iPad mini in 2024, I’d definitely wait for the iPad mini 7. We’re almost halfway thru June and the new iPad mini should arrive this Fall in a few months.
I’m in no rush, will wait for the 7 as it will hopefully have better brightness and 120hz
I’ve been saying that I’m waiting impatiently for the 7th Generation, but your video did make me look up how much I’d need to spend to get a 6th Gen now. (I’ve already found out the trade-in price for my 5th Gen.)
At the moment, I’m sticking with mine - that might have been different if I’d got an iPhone with USB-C, but I’m still using lightening.
Thanks, as always.
Ordered one today after months waiting for Mini 7.
Just picked up a new 64gb model from Amazon during the Memorial Day sale for $400, love it.
64 gb will soon turn into how 32 gb iPads did.
Reason #5 was me all over, all day long… you made me smile. Now I’m going to buy it… I think…
@avkay12 okay... You got me there... It does flat out, but needs an extra push! Lol
Ugh.
I really want a mini. I have an iPad Pro and you’re right. I only use it at home. I pull my kindle everywhere else. I was waiting for the iPad 7😢
I literally still use the original iPad mini for mixing audio at my church 😂😂🤣
It’s so slow slow but does the job
I absolutely love the mini for those tasks and note taking!
Only ask… Pro Motion 120hz
I really liked the fact in this vid you recommended buying used or refurbished. Nice vid very creative and the editing was great. Now make one of the things you hope next gen ipadm gets, realistically vs fantasy. Thanks!
i currently have a pro model which is wonderful and i am super grateful for being able to use it but i’ve come to realise its not for me😭 got it initially to draw because i thought it was a passion of mine after being told drawing is a profession i should dive into for years but after having it for a few years i now know drawing is more of a hobby i indulged in often rather than a passion. what use is a pro if i dont use it for the things it was designed for?😢
I’m still waiting for the 7. I had a 6 and sold it before I found a good use for it. I’m now kicking myself
I already have it. I only use it for social media and it's perfect for me. I had a base model iPad which didn't like. I loved the build quality but it's too big so I donated it to my church. I'd love to see an Led screen and a high refresh rate but it's already paid for so I'm going to keep it.
Watching on my iPad Mini 😊So happy 😁
Nice!!
The iPad is the only thing in my house that is still had LCD screens and that's the only irritating thing about it
Not only can one get good prices at Amazon, but if you buy it refurbished, you can always return it within 90 days! 👍
You made up my mind for me. YAY. iPad mini it is :) I'm purchasing it now. Thanks!
I brought the Mini, couldn’t wait any longer. The video helped
literally have been researching the mini for months and just ordered mine today 😂
I find any iPad bad for note taking because you can’t rest your hand on the screen without triggering something. Also it doesn’t feel like writing…
Love my Mini 6 but as phones are getting bigger nowadays is there point of the iPad mini anymore? An iPad Mini pro could be appealing though.
There is quite a difference in size between an iPad mini and a Max/Plus iPhone due to the aspect ratio so you can’t really compare the two.
My mini is still twice the size of my new phone, despite of 'only' 2.2 inches diameter difference
I love my iPad Mini 6, mostly for the same reasons you mentioned.
Wowwwwwwwwwww you narrowed me down so good… love the vids keep it going man
Awesome! Thank you!
The mini iPhone makes me cry too! What a great phone that I miss tremendously 😢
Found one brand new on Amazon sale $350 and I’m very happy to have it with my 11 inch iPad for notetaking and consumption.
I need these 2 to upgrade .1. FaceID 2. 120 refresh rate
Face ID I definitely want. I’d love 120 hertz but the battery trade off would be a concern. I’d like Stage Manager for external screens too.
@@anthonydickinson3107 at least no jelly scrolling
Kills me that it doesn't have FaceID at least. Just switched from Samsung S23 to iPhone 15 (luv both) but FaceID no contest, even thou Samsung has upped the game.
Thank you for this video. I have been considering the iPad Pro 12.9 inch. The price is quite high and it is a big iPad but it makes much more sense to get an iPad mini which is more portable.
I gonna just get the mini 6 and depending what the 7 is like I may trade the 6 in for it or not bother if there not major changes for the price etc
Ok that’s it I had enough I am getting it today this the confirmation i needed 😩 thank you 🙏🏽
Me too
Enjoyed the dramatic elements in this vid Mark, thanks :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Give me an iPad mini with the same display tech as the iPad pro and I'd be there instantly.
I was let down again today. No iPad mini 😔
You read my mind with this video! Thanks :)
Glad I could help!
It’s perfect for reading and media consumption on the go
Apple raised the prices on these, Seeing a 256gb wifi only version for £749 on most sites you used to be able to buy the 256gb with cellular for that, Is it really worth paying all that money for am older device now?
What’s a reliable place to get a mini 5 with cellular?
IMO, Apple made a mistake discontinuing the iphone mini. I LOVE mine and have no intention of upgrading any time soon. My first ipad will be the mini, so I appreciate you insights and recommendation.
I did. A week ago. I love it.
I also use the Benks pencil. Spooky.
But I can’t do Paperlike.
Same.
@@RoguetrainerI love the feel of writing on paperlike, but 99% of the time I hate the feeling when touching it
@@TravisBasson virtually every reviewer raves about it.
Thanks ❤ this is the best video I have seen toking about iPad mini 6
@MarkEllisReviews We will see what is going to be on wwdc24 on June.
I’ve think you’re spot on describing what are you waiting for bloke who is me. Checking out refurbished sites as mini 6 remains too pricey
Right around the 6:45 mark. You’ve just described me.
Lol!
I love the size and if I could get an iPhone this size I’d love it
Do you recommend a keyboard and trackpad for the iPad mini?
