  • Trying out a 1978 Black Beaty for the first time. In the later runs of the Black Beauty Razors, Gillette starting using plastic bases on their razors. Maybe in an effort to save money. I'm hoping it works as good as my earlier Black Beauty Gillette's.
    Thanks for watching. Subscriptions and comments appreciated.

    In addition to the Super Adjustable Black Beauty plastic baseplate, I've got 2 Super Adjustable 109's and also the short handle 84. One of the 109's is in my rotation & I've dedicated Rapira LUX blades for Super Adjustable Razor use - the shave is awesome!

    Hey Ken just found your channel as I was searching for the Gilette Black Beauty. I just acquired my birth-year/quarter razor after years of searching, a Super-Adjustable "Black Beauty" X-2 and am about to shave with it for the first time. Finding your video before-hand and watching you shave with that 1978 was enjoyable to watch. You have a new sub - I like your videos. You seem like a very Zen, chill dude. Peace brother.

    Good video Ken. I have a 1973 (my graduation from college year) long handled Black Beauty on the way that I am really looking forward to trying. This week I have been using my 1960 Fatboy with a Feather blade. I wasn't sure if that would be a good match but the shaves have been amazing.

    I have a 1972 and a 1980, and even though I like the way that the 1972 feels in my hand a lot better because of it's weight, I still do really like the 1980, and I think it looks really cool with the black plastic plate underneath the head, and I can see why they call them "Black Beauties". My 1980 must be one of the last ones that has the vertical knurling, because I believe some of the 1980 models have the diamond knurling which was used until they stopped making them I believe. Super cool razors, the whole bunch of them to be honest are really awesome and I like the longer handles on the 109s.

    I have all three versions of that razor. A 72 Super 89 a 74 Super 109 and a 78 Super Adjustable. I actually find myself going for the 78 Super Adjustable more so then the older razors. The plastic base with the aluminum handle makes for a better balanced razor. Both the plastic and metal base plates have identical blade feel to me. But the newer models just feel better balanced. I actually prefer the Black Beauty razors over the Slim Adjustable and Fatboy because they shave more like modern Adjustable razors like my Rockwell T2.

    Hey Ken...just scored a 1974 Gillette Black Beauty Razor (U4), these are actually a bit more "Aggressive" than the Slim according to several folks on YT.
    Mine seems to work best on "4" but this is with Astra Platinum, Voshkod, tried a Bic which was weak...if you remember the old Bic disposable shavers w/orange guard and white handle?
    They were junk razors...the Bic Blade doesn't stay sharp after 2 shaves...harrrrumphhhh! Nice video.

    I was wondering if I could pick your brain. I just received a Gillette Black Beauty in the mail today o 3 and I realized that when I close it up it doesn't turn that extra quarter-turn like The Fat Boy and the slim but if I pull down on the bottom then it does is that how they are supposed to work or should I try lubing it up or something

  • @EricAdamsYT
    @EricAdamsYT 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've really wanted one of these because I think they look interesting and appear to shave well but after watching other videos and reading some things I'm seeing that people consider these low quality in comparison to slim or fatboy razors. I have a feeling that if I can pick one up for cheap then it's worth it in case it does break.

      @@RobertNES816 I agree. I have acquired many vintage razors since leaving this comment and it is remarkable how well most of them have held up.
