Found a Black beauty on an antique market today. In a very good condition. According to the date code it was made in 1970. I paid just 10 euro for it.

What you're shaving with today is actually a Gillette Super Adjustable short handle, AKA "Super 84" for the 84mm handle length. It has a metal bottom plate.
The correct "Black Beauty " is the later Super Adjustable version that featured the plastic bottom plate..
I agree that longer handle brushes giving a better grip are better.

Terrific shave Ken! Vintage safeties and straights are in my den and they shave well. Some of my straights are at least 100 yrs old and have a Shick injector that's 80 yrs old. Of course, I have a Redtip, Slim Adjustable and a Fatboy. I also have modern razors as well. Variety is the spice of life. Take care.

Hi Ken, Great video. In 1976 I turned 16, got my drivers license, my car a 1972 Merc Montego and started dating the girls. It was at around that time I bought myself a razor, a Gillette Super Speed black handle, and my cologne of choice was Cody's Musk for men. I can still get the musk so I keep it in stock. My wife loves the musk as much as I do. About once a month I do a 70s shave and we go out on the town.

Nice shave Ken. I started with the de about 2 years ago, prices on eBay have definitely gone shooting up in that time. I'm happy with all the vintage Gillette's I got at very reasonable prices. Pre war tech is my favorite. I love the simplicity of it. 18 bucks.

Great shave. I got to watch your live Q&A, but I could only be there for like a few minutes as I was busy buying goodies from a local shave shop. From there, I brought back the B&M Reserve Waves soap and two packs of Feather and Merkur blades. I have the Aqua Velva Musk AS, but I gotta buy another one as the bottle has only about a quarter of the splash left. Have a good one!
I bought 1 of each length of the Black Beauties. As long as there's no obvious damage, they clean up and operate really well. If I could keep only one razor from my extensive collection, it would be the longer handled Black Beauty. I purchased the Aqua Velva Musk at Walmart, it's one of the 7 classics in my rotation. Aftershave shouldn't burn that much, think about changing something when using that razor.

Got into wet shaving last year. Bought a CVS razor to start. (Not bad really). Then I found a slim adjustable on eBay. Great great razor!!! Never tire of it. I’ve added 2 other razor but the slim is always in my rotation.

Nice video. I have seen one of this razors NEW, $120's a few weeks back (Bay). You can get that Aqua Velva at Wallies!!! $3.50. Once you have had back pain, that will come and go.....hope U get better fast!

Hi Ken. I've never tried Murdock soap and at £34 or $45 for under 7 oz I doubt I ever will. Lovely shave though with one of my favourite razors. I love PAA brushes AND Aqua Velva Musk

Great shave Ken enjoyed the live chat it didn't feel like it dragged on and was a good watch taking about vintage I used a Durex Don jaun blade from the 50s in a gillette fatboy last week and it was one of the smoothest blades I have ever used 👍

Good shave Ken. I have 3 vintage Gillette's. My "newest" one is a '59 Fatboy. And they all shave great.
Another great shave. Back issues are the worst. Have had them for years. Nordstroms carry’s Murdock of London. So if someone does not want to order online from UK. I am sure there are other resources as well. Have a great one. Cheers

I like the vintage Gillette although in Europe you only seem to find Tech (most of them made in England) or Superspeed (most made in Germany). The adjustables probably were not as popular here. But both Tech and Superspeed are reasonably priced even with the original box. But really, I am happy to have a modern Merkur 34C. It feels much better in the hands, is heavier and the tolerances are higher. Vintage is nice but modern always beats it. Take care ;)

I was finally able to score a Black Beauty 84 (that's the short handle) with the original plastic case, in fine shape. It took a lot of patience, persistence, and cost more than I would have hoped, but it cleaned up nicely. The Black Beauty's don't seem to be as ruggedly constructed as the slim adjustable. They are one notch more aggressive than the slim adjustable.
Ken, I think you might want to work out some sort of deal with your son on starting that lawnmower. Do they make lawnmowers with electric starter motors? That would be sweet.

Take care of that back. Just because it isn't hurting as much doesn't mean that it's back to normal. It can take a couple weeks for the inflammation to go down with a bulging disk, or even just a pulled muscle. Not preaching, just don't do what I did. I've had Two back surgeries for ruptured disks and degenerative disk disease to deal with. It is not fun at all. Take care. I enjoyed the video. I love those old Gillette razors. I wish I could have kept the ones that my father handed down to me oh so many years ago. William C. central Indiana.

I am very new to this wet shaving game. In fact I have only used an electronic razor till recently. My got me Gentlemen Jon’s shaving kit as a groomsman gift. After 3 shaved every time I used it it feels like it is tugging more then cutting. I am thinking about buy a new razor and blades any suggestions?
Oh yes Murdock is an awesome Cream. How long do you think you can use a cream? A lifetime or the advised 12 months ?

To me it has no scent, not even slick and right after a shave and wash n dry, i find myself reaching for a moisturizer, it drys my face like no other shaving cream did.
Nordstrom carries it, I rather used jack black shave cream than murdock.
That's my next razor: Gillette Black Beauty metal bottom. Do they have a magnet in the handle?

Okay im gonna ask the question, Im 25 and cant grow facial hair to save my soul, I recently subscribed to beard club to get the vitamins and the oil and the derma roller, has anyone else been where im at with the lack of facial hair? My dad couldnt grow a beard really either, but my Grandpa on my moms side had a lumberjack beard 24/7 with little to no effort.. like it grew full overnight it seemed... Will a derma roller and the vitamins give my face the kick it needs?

oh ken , don't understand why you had such a terrible burn with the aqua velva mush, what maybe the cause is that your skin after so many burns is getting too sensible , should be better to stop for a while using after shaves with alcohol, your face is almost always red and maybe you aren't using sunburnoil, so take care before skin problems appear

Hi Ken. I want to tell you a story about my life and why I have been depressed all these years. I was born in 1999. At that time, I thought my life would be fun and exciting but it was torn up and taken away from me. First of all, my two dogs passed away because they had to be put down. Second, my granny passed away in her sleep, then my pop who was my dads father passed away in a car crash. Next, I have been mentally abused by today’s society like my stepmom so I isolate myself because the words that she said remind me of how my pop said stuff when he was alive and second, I just don’t feel happy around people anymore. I was in a horrible relationship which had me go to counseling. It was so bad that my ex girlfriend physically hit me and got away with it. Now, I’m single, beaten, alone, and depressed. Worse of all, my grandfather passed away January 17th by several ruptured vertebrates on his back and he was in the worst pain I ever saw. My old friend is gone and I miss him. I’m sorry ken. This is my last comment on your channel for good. I can’t take this society anymore. Goodbye ken.
I threw my back out a few months ago and how is comical I had my coffee cup sitting on the end table turned to get it heard my back pop thought nothing of it went to get up to get me more coffee and as I stood up my back tensed up and it hurt I like a son of a bitch for a week, heating pads icy hot even a massage gun didn't help .
