I have a Japanese new 3ds (not LL/XL) and soft modding and flashing a different region firmware is the only way I’m able to play my carts. I don’t use pirated software, only community projects and eshop games. Yes, modding opens the door to piracy and cheating, but so does using a PC, where pirating and cheating is much easier than on the 3ds in any form.
3DS is even more worth it when you start to Custom Firmware it though, having all those emulators and custom themes and especially the save backups for games is really worth it
As to wallpapers on the switch,i dont understand what Nintendo is doing with the SWITCH PERIOD! We own 12- 3ds units and dont intend to give up playing them. 2 screens makes games unique and also i own multiple copies of sims 3 and is the only game we can play in 3d!,its our fav unit even owning ps vita etc. Nintendo lost us with the switch.Have a nice day.

Gaming grandma here, and I did the same thing. I have been playing my 3DS xl New Leaf every day. I love it! The coolest part was that the town I am playing was originally created by my son 6 years ago. He is 18 now. ❤️
I completely forgot the street pass feature, and I was screaming when you mention it. I remember I got my 3DS in freshman and brought it every day to the school just to collect more players. Now I do feel 3DS has way better feature development than Switch, and you can put it in your backpack without hardcase or protection. The animal crossing collection looks so so pretty!!
Marshall P I am such a huge fan of the Nintendo 3DS! Really sad they don’t have StreetPass and the home menu themes. Nintendo Switch is my all-time favourite console, absolutely brilliant device! But the 3DS is still very special for me.
Caden Churchill I also like how delicate the old school smaller 2DS looks like. Sometimes I just want to sit back, relax, and play some simple games with a small screen in the middle of work. Bigger screen on Switch sometimes can be overwhelming to me. And I’m so happy to be alive to experience 3DS gen and the Switch gen in my life :)

It's already outsold the 3DS and is super close to the Wii, so I don't think backwards compatibility would honestly help too much. Also, one screen and no disc slot means it wouldn't work with either Wii U or 3DS sadly.
As a phone buff who’s losing interest, and a switch owner who’s never had a DS of my own, I truly enjoyed watching this video and realizing how AMAZING the DS line was. Great content! And great video!
Get a New 3ds (xl or not), and some custom firmware. You cant buy DS games anymore except at hobby shops, and if you live in a small city like me, just download backups online and throw them onto your ds. The 3ds can play NES, SNES, GBA, GBC, DS, and 3DS games all in one console (supported by nintendo, it can do other consoles too with fan emulators)! A very valuable purchase.
If you don't care about the 3D part, or have a hard time seeing 3D like myself having been born with eyesight issues, then I'd suggest if you are on a tighter budget go on Nintendo's eBay store, and pick up either a refurbished 2DS @ $49.99, or 2DS XL @ $99.99 while they still have them in stock as they come with a full warranty, and everything in a normal box, except they will come in a white box, and way you will have some extra coin for some awesome games.
Same here ,even though we own 4 ps vitas,(the original clamshell ds got us started on the road) and play them as well,our 11 or so 3ds units are what we class as our favourite all time handheld. Loads of games we still play on them,including ACNL and others.Still buying more new nintendo 3ds xls,just scored another to the collection,just today.

I blessed myself by adopting the 3DS "early" in 2012 and it was my main system practically through the entire 2010s, I think I actually exhausted all my options for this system. 72 downloads, 66 physical games, a 2DS sister system to trade Pokemon & Animal Crossing things and I even bought a japanese 3DS to play import games and virtual console. If you haven't done all that then heck yes the 3DS is worth it in 2020!!!! Games were released for it less than a year ago still! To name one, Persona Q2!
I've got over 300 ds/3ds games.....so many amazing games. Fantasy life and ever oasis r possibly my fav 2. But the ds alone has so many amazing games, I always suggest grabbing all the ds games u can get .
I got my first 3DS in December of 2016, and I’m still in love with it! It never gets old. You can have so many games, a lot of fun ones, and can stay on it for hours. MY favorite games are Tomodachi Life, Miitopia, Animal Crossing New Leaf, and Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer. I’m a creative person, and all these games let me express that. I also have Pokémon Sun, Zelda, and Mario 3D land. This video is not wrong in any way.
I actually love you!! THESE ARE ALLL MY FAVORITE GAMES! I love it so much I have two copies of Tomodachi LIfe lol!! Especially easy to get my hands on these games since they are so cheap now a days. I have actually restarted miitopia 3 times I love that game so much but Tomadachi Life comes infront for me, then Miitopia, Animal Crossing New leaf and Happy Home Designer. Did recently get the new animal crossing for the switch thought fantastic game! The better be bringing out a second Tomodachi Life, and a Miitopia 2 aswell for the Nintendo Switch. I have a Happy Home Designer 3DS XL because my previous pink XL smashed.. OOPS- lol! I have sadly lost a few games for my DS when getting my room done up leaving me with one 3DS XL game, Tomodachi Life! But ahhhh because they are so cheap hopefully they are easily replaceable when I go to my next Game Store when this Pandemic is over. Missing my Miitopia, and my second island in Tomodachi life! restarting wont be a problem tho since I had been round about finished those games anyway! :D

You won't miss out on anything. New horizons has some neat new features and fancy graphics but you'd be surprised how incomplete it is if you bought it. It's missing 23 furniture series NOT including the special furniture you can get from events or buy with those coins that you get from walking, it's missing the classic things like gryoids, ore, it only has 2 shops compared to new leaf that has a whole mainstreet of shops, the villagers are absolutely stale in new horizons (they repeat the same dialogue and never hold a conversation that lasts more than 5 lines), it's missing errands that your villagers ask you to do (it might get a little tedious but most people miss this in new horizons. Villagers are basically just decor now), the cafe that you could work in, the second museum floor where you could display things, a dream suite where you can visit other towns without actually going there or knowing the person, tortimer island where you can do minigames and meet players around the world, easy time travel, town reset, etc without going into your switch settings, basic QoL features, customisation for your house, the town hall and other things, public works projects that actually looked cool and probably way more.
Not gonna lie, when I heard you're gonna mod your japanese 3ds I thought you're gonna hack it and replace the ROM with an NA ROM (since you can do that with a hacked 3ds). I didn't expect you to swap the mainboard. Still an entertaining video nonetheless.

I just found a 3Ds at the local Exchange store around me, after begging my husband to finally let me get one. I had one in the past and stupidly sold it, same with a DS lite. Wel lthe DS lite i sold to upgrade to the 3Ds then but I should have kept all my games especially my beloved Soul Silver. So now, it's all about rebuilding my game collection and eventually have the old titles I enjoyed playing. I definitely recommend getting a 3ds or 2ds xl if you haven't already. Some may say it's worthless but to others its still a lot of fun to have.

Honestly I just got a 2ds xl and I'm not ready for the ds to end. Or die. Or whatever everyone is insisting it is. I love my switch but truly I don't play it much. I loved Zelda...and that was it honestly. I'm waiting for animal crossing but idk the ds is so nice. I love the form factor and the clam shell it's satisfying

The N3DS will go in history as my all-time favorite handheld line from Nintendo period. Yes, I love them more than the Switch family currently and for many good reasons. It was the system that single-handedly made me a Nintendo fan with the Wii U only accelerating that love for the company for me. So many good memories and so much fun that I'm still having with it, even today!

The 3ds was a durable goddamn brick and I love it for that. It's small enough to fit in your pocket like a phone and has no trouble staying there. The switch was disappointing on the portable side for me in that regard. The joy cons had the durability of an egg, each time I used them and they did something even remotely weird like not read one of my inputs I would panic for fear of my 70 dollar controllers spontaneously breaking for no good reason, added to the fact that the console was much larger and the joycons had no built-in protection like the 3ds did. Meanwhile my chad 3ds has just now encountered input issues with it's b button (and not even severly) after *3000* hours of use. Impo, the 3ds has set a standard of portable gaming that the Switch could ever live up to. I will usually just try to play that thing docked with my pro controller whenever given the opportunity.
@LittlemanBryce YT Or Nintendo drops an announcement for the Switch 2. It's around that time that the system should start seeing a price drop. It's been on the market for over 3 years now, and it hasn't really been updated other than the better battery life we got with the newer versions.

Just bought a Switch Lite about a month ago. I love it to death. About two weeks ago I was going through some old boxes and found my DS Lite and OG 3DS. I'm back baby.
I love my Switch V2, and with that being said I continuously consider picking up another 3ds XL. I sold mines in 2k18, not sure if id play it along side my switch, but I feel I should pick another up.

I cannot put this system down as I had forgotten how good a system this was (I sold mine in 2018 as well), I still play my switch a ton (mostly with my friends) but my 3ds is my primary console due to how cheap al the games are at the moment. There has been no better time than this to pick one up
Do it and get a r4 (r4ds gold plus) and have fun playing the complete ds library. You wont put it down. I play my 3ds over my switch, xbox one x and gaming pc all the time. The ds library is full of bangers like rayman 2, pokemon, zelda games, new super mario bros, mario 64 remake soo many games plus u can still play 3ds carts makes it a system with so many games nothing comes close not even switch
omg I LOVE IT!!!! That is literally the EXACT 3DS I want! Everything is beautiful! From the absolutely adorable shell, to the colored buttons and the incredible screens! I have to mod this myself someday!
I have 4 dual IPS 3ds xl consoles, a gameboy micro, a ds lite, a 2ds and 3ds. Only got them all in the last year... I've got so many because growing up as a kid we couldn't afford them. I did have a gameboy colour when i was about 11 from a bootfair (or yard sale to the americans) when i convinced my dad, it came with a Japanese version of Pokémon crystal yet i was hooked even though i couldn't read the text lol.. eventually my mum got me Pokémon red and my mind was blown!!... only console I had for many years. So now I'm a fully fledged adult with a house lol i thought I'm going to collect the best ones that i remember that i never had and only the best condition ones. I will cherish them for ever!! the dual IPS consoles were hard at first to find but then i would see someone local selling that model so would go round check if it was dual IPS and take it if it was so thats how i found 4 in a year lol all around the £100 mark each! bargain

When I was younger I broke two DS Lite because of ONE ribbon cable in each of them, so seeing this monstrous number of ribbon cable in the New 3DS makes me admire your skills and the courage to do it lol

it's been discontinued! You can't find any new in stores anymore! In fact, their websites (Walmart, Amazon, Target, Best Buy, etc) only sell 3rd party systems now, meaning someone who bought one retail years ago is now selling it, Nintendo has discontinued it quietly.
Great video. I picked up my first 3DS in January 2020 and love it. I use mostly for homebrew but wish I was in the community of the 3DS since it's release. I wish Nintendo would upgrade the 3DS for 2020 and keep it around. I have the Switch and like it, but unlike the Switch, the 3DS feels like it was your own, more personal to use where the Switch tends to yell, "share me" with everyone.

Absolutely it's worth it. The sonic series are available in 3D among my favorite AFTERBURNER and many more! I personally have the SNES console version, totally awesome.
I still use my 3DS XL (M-Mask). Well, I did till 2019, I haven't switched it on in a few months, but I am sure I will sooner than later. I don't have many games for it, but they are all great games. Still, funny enough I find myself mostly playing two games on it. A Mahjong game I found in the eshop and Out Run 3D (also from the eshop). I never liked mahjong type of games since the 80s when I first found one in the arcades. Yet for some reason I love playing the one on this console. As for Out Run, this version is easily, by far, the best version I have ever played since the original arcade.

I still play my 2ds XL nearly every day. I've found that I play my DS games on it the most. I have a large library and the 2ds XL has nice big screens and a circle pad. Neither of which my DS Lite has!

Ah your Animal Crossing 3DS mod is an absolute beauty - so jealous! I’ve done something similar with a Japanese DSiXL in Blue that I always wanted and swapped with a PAL board, it’s not that relevant as DS is region free but I didn’t want to have the phone all the time to translate. My own OCD I guess. But again, this 3DS with dual IPS wow nice one to keep no doubt - the ultimate 3DS!
I still love my n3dsxl. Enough to do a partial shell swap to replace some surface damage, which was a pain in the butt. So many good games between 2ds & 3ds carts. Sadly cart prices are through the roof right now, but the 3ds eshop is still up at time of posting, so I've recently been stocking up, trying to get all the games I want while they're still available - and backing up my microsd for safekeeping.

Get a New 3ds (xl or not), and some custom firmware. You cant buy DS games anymore except at hobby shops, and if you live in a small city like me, just download backups online and throw them onto your ds. The 3ds can play NES, SNES, GBA, GBC, DS, and 3DS games all in one console (supported by nintendo, it can do other consoles too with fan emulators)! A very valuable purchase.
If you don't care about the 3D part, or have a hard time seeing 3D like myself having been born with eyesight issues, then I'd suggest if you are on a tighter budget go on Nintendo's eBay store, and pick up either a refurbished 2DS @ $49.99, or 2DS XL @ $99.99 while they still have them in stock as they come with a full warranty, and everything in a normal box, except they will come in a white box, and way you will have some extra coin for some awesome games.

Same here ,even though we own 4 ps vitas,(the original clamshell ds got us started on the road) and play them as well,our 11 or so 3ds units are what we class as our favourite all time handheld. Loads of games we still play on them,including ACNL and others.Still buying more new nintendo 3ds xls,just scored another to the collection,just today.

I blessed myself by adopting the 3DS "early" in 2012 and it was my main system practically through the entire 2010s, I think I actually exhausted all my options for this system. 72 downloads, 66 physical games, a 2DS sister system to trade Pokemon & Animal Crossing things and I even bought a japanese 3DS to play import games and virtual console. If you haven't done all that then heck yes the 3DS is worth it in 2020!!!! Games were released for it less than a year ago still! To name one, Persona Q2!

I got my first 3DS in December of 2016, and I’m still in love with it! It never gets old. You can have so many games, a lot of fun ones, and can stay on it for hours. MY favorite games are Tomodachi Life, Miitopia, Animal Crossing New Leaf, and Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer. I’m a creative person, and all these games let me express that. I also have Pokémon Sun, Zelda, and Mario 3D land. This video is not wrong in any way.
I actually love you!! THESE ARE ALLL MY FAVORITE GAMES! I love it so much I have two copies of Tomodachi LIfe lol!! Especially easy to get my hands on these games since they are so cheap now a days. I have actually restarted miitopia 3 times I love that game so much but Tomadachi Life comes infront for me, then Miitopia, Animal Crossing New leaf and Happy Home Designer. Did recently get the new animal crossing for the switch thought fantastic game! The better be bringing out a second Tomodachi Life, and a Miitopia 2 aswell for the Nintendo Switch. I have a Happy Home Designer 3DS XL because my previous pink XL smashed.. OOPS- lol! I have sadly lost a few games for my DS when getting my room done up leaving me with one 3DS XL game, Tomodachi Life! But ahhhh because they are so cheap hopefully they are easily replaceable when I go to my next Game Store when this Pandemic is over. I saw people so caught in the new Animal crossing that I wanted to play it too, i can't afford to buy a switch right now but I bought a 3DS hand held console, so I can play New leaf
You won't miss out on anything. New horizons has some neat new features and fancy graphics but you'd be surprised how incomplete it is if you bought it.
It's missing 23 furniture series NOT including the special furniture you can get from events or buy with those coins that you get from walking, it's missing the classic things like gryoids, ore, it only has 2 shops compared to new leaf that has a whole mainstreet of shops, the villagers are absolutely stale in new horizons (they repeat the same dialogue and never hold a conversation that lasts more than 5 lines), it's missing errands that your villagers ask you to do (it might get a little tedious but most people miss this in new horizons. Villagers are basically just decor now), the cafe that you could work in, the second museum floor where you could display things, a dream suite where you can visit other towns without actually going there or knowing the person, tortimer island where you can do minigames and meet players around the world, easy time travel, town reset, etc without going into your switch settings, basic QoL features, customisation for your house, the town hall and other things, public works projects that actually looked cool and probably way more.

I just found a 3Ds at the local Exchange store around me, after begging my husband to finally let me get one. I had one in the past and stupidly sold it, same with a DS lite. Wel lthe DS lite i sold to upgrade to the 3Ds then but I should have kept all my games especially my beloved Soul Silver. So now, it's all about rebuilding my game collection and eventually have the old titles I enjoyed playing. I definitely recommend getting a 3ds or 2ds xl if you haven't already. Some may say it's worthless but to others its still a lot of fun to have.

I loved Streetpass when I was in college. It was so active living on campus.
The 3ds was a durable goddamn brick and I love it for that. It's small enough to fit in your pocket like a phone and has no trouble staying there. The switch was disappointing on the portable side for me in that regard. The joy cons had the durability of an egg, each time I used them and they did something even remotely weird like not read one of my inputs I would panic for fear of my 70 dollar controllers spontaneously breaking for no good reason, added to the fact that the console was much larger and the joycons had no built-in protection like the 3ds did. Meanwhile my chad 3ds has just now encountered input issues with it's b button (and not even severly) after *3000* hours of use. Impo, the 3ds has set a standard of portable gaming that the Switch could ever live up to. I will usually just try to play that thing docked with my pro controller whenever given the opportunity.

I cannot put this system down as I had forgotten how good a system this was (I sold mine in 2018 as well), I still play my switch a ton (mostly with my friends) but my 3ds is my primary console due to how cheap al the games are at the moment. There has been no better time than this to pick one up
Do it and get a r4 (r4ds gold plus) and have fun playing the complete ds library. You wont put it down. I play my 3ds over my switch, xbox one x and gaming pc all the time. The ds library is full of bangers like rayman 2, pokemon, zelda games, new super mario bros, mario 64 remake soo many games plus u can still play 3ds carts makes it a system with so many games nothing comes close not even switch

omg I LOVE IT!!!! That is literally the EXACT 3DS I want! Everything is beautiful! From the absolutely adorable shell, to the colored buttons and the incredible screens! I have to mod this myself someday!
I have 4 dual IPS 3ds xl consoles, a gameboy micro, a ds lite, a 2ds and 3ds. Only got them all in the last year... I've got so many because growing up as a kid we couldn't afford them. I did have a gameboy colour when i was about 11 from a bootfair (or yard sale to the americans) when i convinced my dad, it came with a Japanese version of Pokémon crystal yet i was hooked even though i couldn't read the text lol.. eventually my mum got me Pokémon red and my mind was blown!!... only console I had for many years. So now I'm a fully fledged adult with a house lol i thought I'm going to collect the best ones that i remember that i never had and only the best condition ones. I will cherish them for ever!! the dual IPS consoles were hard at first to find but then i would see someone local selling that model so would go round check if it was dual IPS and take it if it was so thats how i found 4 in a year lol all around the £100 mark each! bargain

it's been discontinued! You can't find any new in stores anymore! In fact, their websites (Walmart, Amazon, Target, Best Buy, etc) only sell 3rd party systems now, meaning someone who bought one retail years ago is now selling it, Nintendo has discontinued it quietly.

Great video. I picked up my first 3DS in January 2020 and love it. I use mostly for homebrew but wish I was in the community of the 3DS since it's release. I wish Nintendo would upgrade the 3DS for 2020 and keep it around. I have the Switch and like it, but unlike the Switch, the 3DS feels like it was your own, more personal to use where the Switch tends to yell, "share me" with everyone.

Absolutely it's worth it. The sonic series are available in 3D among my favorite AFTERBURNER and many more! I personally have the SNES console version, totally awesome.

I still use my 3DS XL (M-Mask). Well, I did till 2019, I haven't switched it on in a few months, but I am sure I will sooner than later.
I don't have many games for it, but they are all great games. Still, funny enough I find myself mostly playing two games on it. A Mahjong game I found in the eshop and Out Run 3D (also from the eshop).
I never liked mahjong type of games since the 80s when I first found one in the arcades. Yet for some reason I love playing the one on this console. As for Out Run, this version is easily, by far, the best version I have ever played since the original arcade.

I’ve done something similar with a Japanese DSiXL in Blue that I always wanted and swapped with a PAL board, it’s not that relevant as DS is region free but I didn’t want to have the phone all the time to translate. My own OCD I guess.
But again, this 3DS with dual IPS wow nice one to keep no doubt - the ultimate 3DS!
I still love my n3dsxl. Enough to do a partial shell swap to replace some surface damage, which was a pain in the butt. So many good games between 2ds & 3ds carts. Sadly cart prices are through the roof right now, but the 3ds eshop is still up at time of posting, so I've recently been stocking up, trying to get all the games I want while they're still available - and backing up my microsd for safekeeping.
