I realize this video was uploaded in 2012 during that time my son had completed a few months of 4K here in the Madison WI area. I was told that he has a Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) and also was verbal told by his teacher at that time he would not be subjected to suspension as a form of discipline do to his disability of Autism.
After being forced into home schooling to prevent my son being forced by this district to attend school with someone he remains animate for bringing harm to him and causing an injury You might be astonished to learn that a psychologist wrote my son did not need a "BIP." Despite the fact he has always had one while engaged in a brick or mortar setting.I had to ask myself why, but I recall something the principal said, She responded, "He needs to learn how we do things here." Really, Then when I finally pick up the IEP for the 2018*2019 school year. I was floored. Every chance this racist district gets they continue attacks, Well enough is enough. I gearing up to complain to the school board this year, and the Federal Department of Education to how discriminating individuals with disabilities are unjustly treated
How federally funded agencies pass you on to the next federally funded agency when you try to get support.

I am so sorry this happened to you and your child. The law is in your favor, of course that doesn't always protect our kids. I don't know how some people sleep at night after the way they treat our children. Stay strong Mom. Your child is lucky to have you.

Are BIPs only for kids with Autism?

No, but they are usually for students with IEPs

From a Human and Civil Rights perspective, there are no successes in ABA; there are only broken
and traumatized human beings, who do what they are told at the expense of joy. Of course, by social work
standards, this is a very high price to pay.

Hi zophiaburningart, I am curious about what your comment means from the perspective of someone who is in a SPED licensure program right now. If you have time, could you elaborate by email to denisbm71@gmail.com. Thanks, Denis

OH my! I am sorry that that's your perspective. ABA is well documented as an effective approach to intervention especially with individuals with autism. However, ABA can be used inappropriately - just as an intervention or treatment can be. If you review the ethics code of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, you will see a strong emphasis on the dignity of the client, tailoring the goals to client (or guardian) preferences, avoidance of negative consequences in favor of positive consequences, promoting skills that are needed in the "real world" ABA can be used to help children develop play skills, conversation skills, communication skills , skill requesting help, skill in staying safe, academic skills etc. If you are not familiar with Natural Environment training, I suggest you look it up. Quite honestly if you watch a NET session, you might not even recognize that an intervention is being implemented. Please read books by Mary Barbera, parent of a child with autism, Mark Sundberg or look at you tubes with these experts.

What alternative do you offer then

@@yaadstylehomeschooling ABA is operant conditioning, when training animals this is often achieved by clicker training which compromises the natural character of the animal. I wouldn't use it for animals a half hour a day and it's not good for kids multiple hours a day. I suggest encouraging diversity, even that of different ways of thinking. The red flags come up when people talk about ABA as being the best and only therapy but don't really consider how ABA might evolve to be used humanely for some cases. Not allowing stimming, forcing kids to endure through their environmental sensitivities and steering autistic kids away from their special interests is abuse. Using autistic adults as mentors is essential to
