I know I’m pretty late to the punch on this one, had some personal things holding me up from getting it out earlier. Nevertheless, hope you guys enjoy!
Sega needs to treat their mascot better. You can see the passion is there from the game devs, animators, marketing team, but the business side of things of wanting to get the product out fast as possible and benefit from popularity of the hedgehog being on the big screen is a problem.
@@TheDoomsdayzoner It was a mod called "BetterOrigins". It got cancelled a short while ago because it seems that the modding and attempts to fix issues was just too much for the creator to handle.
The last time Sonic fans had a W was Sonic Mania and that really is sad. Some of us hoping with Frontiers but the stubborness of the management in SEGA is concerning as shown in this video.
*The last time an official SEGA Sonic game gave us a W was Mania. The movies, fan games, and comics are all still awesome [even if I do think IDW Sonic jumped the shark with how insanely, unbeatably awesome the Metal Virus arc and it's ending was]. It's only official games that suck, everything else is great.
@@aortaplatinum like your take. it's as if everyone loves the sonic franchise except for Sega, who insist on making the most barebones rushed out games while the fans try to fix the past mistakes that they just haven't seemed to learn from 🧐
@@AziDoesQuestionableThings They do learn from their experiences with Sonic (sort of). After the bad reception of Sonic Free Riders they stuck to Sonic being in a car again outside of the Sega All-Stars series when Sonic stood out more racing on hoverboards.
@@AziDoesQuestionableThings Everyone knows how to, and are more than willing to, treat Sonic with due respect and care. Everyone except Sega; they seem to only see Sonic as a cash cow that'll always sell well on brand recognition alone, regardless of the actual quality of the product. I swear the one thing holding back the franchise is Sega themselves.
Funny thing: Sonic 1, 2 and CD don't use actual dropdash code, just a close enough approximation of it which causes you to instantly spindash after landing (Sonic 3 prototype style). Possibly due to Sega not having access to Mania's dropdash code and telling a random dev to make something similar. S3K on the other hand uses actual dropdash from Mania as it was made by Stealth.
@@Gnidel Mania doesn't use the scripting language raw, It's translated into C and compiled. You can't just extract and use it. You have to Reverse Engineer it, Granted Sega could of easily just ASKED Headcanon for it, But nah. Shitty drop dash.
@@princefrizzy9451 Thanks for clarification. I thought that it uses scripts because in mods it's called "scripts" and didn't require compilation beforehand.
This also ended up affecting Sonic 2! This new code overrides Tails' respawn timer, which explains why he always tries to jump when he can't reach you rather than just fly to your location like before! How they managed to miss such a glaring flaw shouldn't be surprising! -_-
Things I find disappointing about Sonic Origins: 1. No inclusion of other scrapped zones, such as Wood Zone or Genocide City Zone. 2. Some of the new soundtracks for Sonic 3 & Knuckles are appalling. 3. Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D aren't playable or unlockable.
I don't think a level called genocide city would go over well with the public, I know it was the original name of the cut level, but it should be called something else, like chaos city, calling it genocide city would be the worst PR nightmare of all time.
Amazing how arrogant and stubborn Sega of Japan still are after all this time. They really thought people cared about this releasing for Sonic's birthday. Clownshoes. Great video man!
I get when it's a real anniversary milestone like 25, 30, 35 years then maybe the deadline would be justifiable.. But it's just 31, who cares, just delay the game and release it on the holiday season like everyone else does.
What's even better is that now we've had two back-to-back disasters in the form of Colors Ultimate and Origins right after Sega said they wouldn't rush Sonic games to meet arbitrary deadlines anymore, and they ended up that way because, surprise surprise, they were rushed to meet arbitrary deadlines. What sucks even more is Sonic Team are the ones who get targeted as the incompetent ones here when it's Sega of Japan that's been to blame for basically every misstep that Sonic has had since the Saturn era. What's even weirder about this is it seems that only Sonic continually has this problem, despite being the face of Sega. You never hear people complaining about a game being obviously rushed and unfinished when it comes to Yakuza, Monkey Ball, Sakura Wars, Virtua Fighter, Puyo Puyo, MegaTen, Persona, etc.
Sega of Japan basically ruined Sega every since they made the unfathomable decision of not accepting Sony dealt I make a console together and releasing the Sega Saturn 4 months earlier in America.
I'm not really sure if I'd call the team who ported the other games "lazy". Maybe they were doing this for a quick paycheck and nothing more, but Sega always has treated Sonic Team poorly, so it's fair to assume the porting team had to deal with some corporate crap like Headcannon.
Headcannon has confirmed they are an internal team within Sega and not outsourced for a quick paycheck as you are suggesting. So they had a lot more control on what could and could not be done than Headcannon themselves. While 'Lazy' is a fair assessment, the one thing that put pressure on both teams to get it done is management unshakeable deadline. That part I can agree on.
@@mechashadow I know it was an internal team, but that doesn't mean they were treated any much better. Again, Sonic Team gets screwed over time and time again.
For all its faults, I have been enjoying this compilation. I only game on console and it’s been years that I have played any of these game, especially 3K, so this breathed new life into these titles for me. I wanna support Headcannon and Christian Whitehead on their work, but I don’t want to encourage SEGA in their practices, so it has been tough trying to defend this title.
Ultimately, this video reminded me just how awesome the Mega and Gem's Collection were. The fact that Sega has already re-released these games so many times before means that without new content (such as additional characters or finally managing to re-release SEGA Sonic, etc), there wasn't much reason to buy this collection. A shame but also fascinating to hear about the bugs plaguing the game and the development issues Sonic Origins went through. It was an indepth yet nicely summarised look into the Sonic Origins situations with a decent balance of jokes sprinkled in.
i get the point of your comment but just to nitpick, gems collection is actually like, extremely lame. there isnt a single main title besides CD and then the rest of the titles are game gear entries like Drift, Labyrinth, and Tails Adventure lmfao say what you want but half the gems collection is objective filler, thats undeniable and i think that makes it a poor example of a good collection. mega collection, absolutely. gems collection, not so much
@@spimbles Gem Collection works because it is a follow-up to the Mega Collection, released in the same generation and under the assumption that you may already own the Mega Collection. The games focused on were also lesser known and harder to obtain or access to play, so it was a real blessing in that regard. I didn't even know Sonic CD or Sonic The Fighters existed before the Gems Collection. I had an absolute blast playing Sonic The Fighters, Sonic R, Sonic Drift 2 and Tails Adventure!
@@grinbrothers Agreed. Gems was a great pickup as a followup to Mega Collection. Standalone it's pretty useless, but it really wasn't meant to be standalone. It's just how things had to be in that generation. You weren't going to be able to download "Gems DLC" on a GameCube or PS2.
Once I discovered Sonic 3 Air. There is no going back. S3Air is the true Definitive Way to play that game. Again Fans do it better then Sega themselves.
A few small things to point out: you can play with no spin dash and even have sonics speedcap if you input the level select code in sonic 1s screen the menu music is just sonic jams music, it's not even new as for my thoughts 3&K was easily the least fun which is ironic since 3&K used to be my favorite. I just had way to many deaths caused by buggy collision and having 3 zones in a row of even worse versions of the prototype music really soured me on my favorite game.
I heard about that too, which also allows you to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2's Classic mode, like you could on the Mega Drive. However, it not should not be this difficult to select other characters or tweak the settings and it some serious ass backwards logic to think it was a good idea.
"i think its highly unrealistic for a multi-million dollar company to put as much effort into a paid product than a bunch of unpaid fans who dont collect any profit" that says it all right there lol
@@LilacMonarch Segas not even very good at that though. A more competent company would be ruthless with their flagship property, but have enough sense to make sure not every game with its name on it is either disappointing or total dogshit. Disney for example wouldn't make half of the mistakes with the blue blur that Sega has.
They prob didn't want to spend too much money as this is a lazy cash grab ports they had slammed together with only one (3&K) being good...and it's sad how much it shows.
I don't have hope for Sonic Frontiers either. having Sonic lose his memories and go to White Space to retrieve them is just a pretense to bring back Green Hill Zone for the hundredth time.
It’s really bizarre how everything is “passable” but it all feels just off enough to us who played the originals or AGES remakes that it makes everything feel just awful. I, personally, can’t get past how utterly destroyed the S2 special stages are. I feel like the coins exist just to compensate how muddy the physics are and unresponsive the controls are.
Also should be noted the cutscenes don’t play outside of story mode more than once. So if you wanna play just one of the games and you’ve already seen the scenes outside of story mode once, you need to either create a new console profile or just reach it in story mode to play with cutscenes.
You'd expect the big corporation with plentiful resources to have the better stuff than the small group who was brought in late and is given little info from the big corporation but... As proven time and time again, what keeps Sonic alive now a-days isn't Sega, but Sonic's fans...
it's gotten so bad that I fully expect fans to quickly make a remake of Origins on one of the open-source engines. If they do, I hope they do a full Mania-style HD versions of the sprites. Ray and Mighty? Heck, yeah. Amy and Metal Sonic? That too. Hell, I'd love to see an option to have the time-travel gimmick from CD implemented in other games as a "remix" option, so you have different pallet colours, layouts, et cetera. Origins is just... the fans deserve better, and the fans can create better. C'mon, Sega.
@Lamda2 • 15y ago As awesome as they are, they still use sprites from the original games; Mania basically recreated those sprites in higher detail and definition. For example, look at Hydrocity in Sonic 3 and Hydrocity in Mania, sprite for sprite, and you'll see the difference.
@Lamda2 • 15y ago You'd be surprised at what the fan community can and will make/do. Heck, the only other community that, to my limited knowledge, is as crazy enough to do this sort of thing is the DooM modding community.
They really built it up as this big collection with the christian whitehead ports with some new additions like the drop dash and the new animated cutscenes, a gallery and a mission mode, but it really all fell off once the game released. I can tell that the team behind it really wanted to try to make the collection the best it could be, especially headcanon, but they were forced to rush it by the hire-ups at SEGA and their bad business decisions. So many care was put into this collection, the menu animations were smooth, the little island things were nice and many more features. They finally ported Sonic 3 & Knuckles to modern systems and with widescreen support as well, added many moves such as the drop dash, it looked nice. Sure, it was over-priced, but maybe the overall quality of the collection could make up for it? that's an unfortunate no, I expected the fan ports to have more features since fan ports always have more options and features than official releases, and the game did have a fine amount of features for me. Still, some of these features came with problems like the drop dash being jank in Sonic 1 and 2. But then we have the many glitches caused by a rushed cycle and integration issues, mostly with Sonic 3. The collision detection was really bad in the retro engine version of that game and they just straight up ported over some bugs from the original Sonic 3, which is really impressive in the worst way possible. This is again, in no way an insult to Headcanon, they tried the best they could with the limited development time. This is overall a huge disappointment, while it can still be good in some areas, it's an overall 5/10 collection. Just play the fan ports, they have way more options which makes them better and for CD, play the Steam version with a drop dash mod (with the "nostalgic" filter built into the game to not make it as blurry). Now I'm incredibly worried about Frontiers even the game turns out good, there can still be many glitches (To be fair, open world games tend to have many glitches but Sonic Frontiers could have too much glitches), let's hope that doesn't happen to Frontiers.
I've never seen a fanbase that loves getting hurt as much as the sonic one. How many times can they get excited and then be disappointed before they learn their lesson? I understand being excited for a game but after so many disappointments, how can anyone get excited anymore? Oh look over there! It's the sonic fanbase getting excited for Sonic Frontiers! Oh what? It sucked?! I'm shocked. Oh it's selling millions...I guess sega isn't going to learn their lesson that making rushed, unfinished, unfun games doesn't lead to sales again. Oh here come the sonic youtubers talking about how disappointing sonic frontiers was...OH look over there! It's the next sonic game trailer! It looks like shit though...Oh the sonic fans are excited again...Oh it was disapointing. I'm shocked. I know I'm being dramatic but it's just insane to me that a series with over 30 games and only a handful of good ones can continue to exist. This is coming from someone who loved the older games and even enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 and Heroes so I'm definitely not a hater. I just want Sega to get it together and make something truly new and special.
I entirely agree with you, and the worst part if you call any sonic game trash the fanbase will rage at you for dissing one of their precious games. Sonic fans are blind and i wish they would stop suck this franchises cock dry waiting for a big bang up like generations (which to me was pretty terrible).
@@Eldarin Fr, Sonic fanbase is one of the first fanbase that are unironically the meme "Cons00m the product, get excited for new product" Soon they'll stop being mad that cons00med product is bad and will like it even mkret
The big difference is that these are 30 year old games that we've played numerous times before not new games. They should've never charged $40 for such a barebones collection.
Actually I perfer some of the prototype tracks over the MJ ones (although they were butchered in Origins). Mainly both acts of Carnival Night Zone and Launch Base Zone Act 2. Ice Cap Zone is irreplaceable though.
@@ikagura it's funny you bring up diamond dust because there is a guy called bouncy glow who made a refinement of the proto ice cap track that sounds very similar to diamond dust zone, take a listen to it.
I’ll be honest, Origins was my first time playing Sonic CD front to back and my first time collecting all the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 1, both in anniversary mode. I’ve never been the best at the classic games, even when playing on an actual Sega Genesis, so in that sense I am grateful for anniversary mode and its coin system. However, it feels too easy to get coins, even without the 100 coin pre-order bonus, especially since you gain an extra 3 for completing a special stage well enough. Plus there’s not really an incentive to use them as currency for the concept art and cinematics since… y’know… TH-cam exists; unless you just wanna get rid of all those excess coins. And same goes for the music. It would have been better if those coins were used to buy customization options for gameplay like using the Sonic 1, 2, and CD Sonic sprites in S3&K (or vice versa), or unlocking Ray and Mighty. It really doesn’t make sense why there are separate player profiles in 1, 2, and CD for each character, and yet S3&K uses the original save file system. Older ports of pre-S3&K games handled multiple save files much better. Even if they had just reused the S3&K save file screen for all the games I would have been happy with that. I think they also should have had an option to split S3&K into Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles, and used the originally intended stage order where Flying Battery comes before Ice Cap. And I know Knuckles’ Chaotix isn’t the most popular but I think they should’ve included that game too, just with some refinements to the ring tether mechanic. Just sayin’ this would’ve been a great opportunity to improve on some of the shortcomings of the original games. As it is I have no idea why it took so long for Origins to come out after it was announced even though it shows all the signs of being a rushed port.
No idea why they had Jun remix the prototype tracks and make them unlistenable instead of...you know, just using the prototype tracks they already had?
This collection feels so lazy that it got me interested in other game collections. It really does feel like they copy & pasted things into this collection. I know it would've probably been a bigger disaster, but I kinda wish Sonic Origins remade these games again. Give them a visual overhaul and more life to the stages, almost kinda like Mario All-stars on the SNES.
The MegaMan Battle Network one has piqued my interest quite a bit personally, and the recently shown off TMNT one looks great also. Thanks for watching!
The sonic 3 and k music is probably the biggest disappointment for me (I wish they’d get the issue fixed or found a better solution) but there is a lot of other disappointing things
As someone who grew up with the S3&K PC Collection, the lack of the MJ soundtrack doesn't bother me too much. It's definitely understandable, what isn't is the fact that they got the MIDIs from that collection, ran it through the Genesis soundfont/sound driver and called it a day. Maybe it's hyperbole, but it definitely feels like that. I will agree with everything else and I like how you went into detail about a lot of stuff that others haven't gone through, like the museum mode and development history. SEGA definitely needs new management, or at the very least, Tom Kalinske to come back.

Honestly I knew this was going to happen the moment this game was announced. This and a new 3D mainline game coming out in the same summer? Yeah no this was GOING to be rushed and unpolished and I guarantee you Frontiers is going to to be the same thing. We shall see.
I swear to god Sega/Sonic Team HATES having to work with other teams. They HATE and cant stand any other teams showing them up and they feel the need to stifle and worsen the outside work
I'm honestly really missing the time where a new Sonic game was released... and you already knew you were in for a great time... This has not happened since Generations (With the exception of Sonic Mania which was done partially by really passionate fangame creators) I'm missing it for sure...
You can browse the museum with music if you create a playlist. I gotta say, I wasn't expecting to agree with a lot of points in this video, but after giving it a chance I totally sympathize with your frustrations. I personally love Origins, but I can see how all these little changes and missed opportunities can make it hard to enjoy the experience.
Would've been cool that the Chaotix including Mighty appeared as playable characters. Or maybe also adding Chaotix as an extra game. With included Sonic and Tails.
Funnily enough regarding you talking about Mighty and Ray in this, apparently there were leftovers of them for the Sonic 3&Knuckles portion. Sonic Mania was used as a source for Sonic 3 but then it also tries to reference “S3K_Special/Mighty.bin” and “S3K_Special/Ray.bin” which implies they could’ve been the original new characters for the game. This was pointed out (at least from where I found it) by a Staff at TheSpritersResource named, Random Talking Bush, who is one of the many people that rips sprites from games on that site.
While you say its unrealistic to expect Origins to have the same amount of customizability as say Sonic 1 Forever, or 3 A.I.R. but they still could have at least given us a filter option like 2017's Sonic Mania if they couldn't give the same options as 1997's Sonic Jam collection which like you turn off or on the Spin Dash from Sonic 1, turn off the time limit across Sonic 1-3&K or change the difficulty from Easy, Normal (basically the then Anniversary mode of that collection) or play the Original. All while still being able to mess with the other settings, like the Spin Dash or time limit. Plus the game is probably one of the worst cases of false advertising in recent years, with its mention of NEW playable characters, when there are none. One last thing, and I'm not sure if this is me reaching but I can't help but feel its trying to rewrite history for it to be like "Oh, don't you know! Sonic NEVER spoke back then!" To fit in with what they have with that bad tribute act they try passing off as Sonic from the 90s in Generations and Forces. Something which never made any sense what so ever when both Tails and Eggman could talk. One positive I will say the animations are nice, but not enough to justify the $40 price tag.
I'm guessing "new playable characters" means all 3 characters (except Knuckles in CD) in 1, 2 and CD, which... we've had for nearly 9 years with the mobile remasters I think. It's only new if you compare it to the Genesis originals exclusively.
Sonic CD’s draw dash actually works like S3&K and it makes time travel a breeze. I don’t think Ray and Mighty would make the price tag more reasonable like you said. In fact I think it would make things worse because of their more detailed and animated sprites would clash with the original games’ art styles. It would make Sega look even lazier.
I am sad they messed this release up. I am glad I didn’t preorder it. I was really looking forward to this. Thank goodness have all these games on my Xbox 360.
The 3D islands are great and all but the models are directly ripped from Generations. That's why Amy and Knuckles aren't apparent. Not really a con, but you know...
The reason the drop dash is locked in all but 3K is because they’re using the original engine, where jumping from a ball form will lock sonic. That also means headcanon REMADE the engine for 3k to be on par with mania. Even then sega coulda just made sonic change direction from a hall jump without momentum changing, that would be nice.
Incorrect information; you CAN switch off the Spin Dash in Sonic 1 via the level select menu, as well as enable the elemental shields. Labyrinth Zone with a Bubble Shield is a complete joke.
I remember when all of these were brand new. And it blew our minds when the knuckles cartridge came out and you could plug them all in to the top of the knuckles cartridge. So cool.
Didn't they initially promise a new playable character? I remember a TON of people getting excited for the first time Amy has been playable in years. Then it was quietly dropped.
@@bestaround3323 That's fucking bullshit, they were already in 3, and neither of them are playable in CD. That's not new that's just slightly expanded access to existing characters.
@@000Dragon50000 I don't disagree with you. Just pointing out it was said in the video that knuckles with tails was probably the "new" character mentioned. You also don't have to be so rude.
I'm just goona say this. Honestly as someone who was genuinely excited about this collection at the time of the first announcement to intial release. I still completely agree with this video. I still love this collection tho. The fact I can play all four of these games on my Switch anywhere I want. This was always my dream ever since I got Sonic Mania in 2017. I could technically already do that on phones, but I just do not like the touch screen and the ads. Its just an okay collection. But it definitely lacks personality. But its not that bare bones. Super Mario 3D All Stars on the other hand was COMPLETELY bare bones. It doesn't even remaster any of its games lmao. And this collection kinda does. Although they're still the mobile games ported to console. I'm just glad I can play these on a platform that isn't touch screen. But back to the personality of the collection I do wish they did just a bit more with their product. like with all of the features mentioned in this video. Features they could've added, but didn't. Its a bit weird they're not in the game. Not sure how much work would've went into making rewind working properly since these are not emulated anymore. Nor are they emulated on the same/original game engine. But If they tried just a little bit more harder. Maybe they could've gotten it to work. Even menu music. None of that is here. Sonic already doesn't talk in the CD cutscenes. so I never saw a reason why they wouldn't mute him. Its to keep it consistent with the other games I think. And it doesn't hamper on the overall experience. Although I did like the voicelines from the original game. Its also very cute I think. CRT and Screen Filters on the other hand. I was completely dissapointed by that and the fact they didn't even think about these. Even when Mania already had these. As for Origins Plus. Charging money for characters that should've been in the game at launch? YEAHHHHH I'm not denying this. This was pure scummy behhavior by SEGA. Although I do think the Gamegear games were a nice bonus (Even though I don't care about/play them that much) A lot of these are oversights that needed more time than what was given to flesh out. But knowing SEGA, that was never going to happen. God forbid they take time and finish developing their shit. I can still look past a lot of these issues and just enjoy the games inside them. I got to play and finish Sonic CD for the first time thanks to this collection. Its become my main way to play all 4 games now. Its far from perfect. But I still love it :)
There is a glitch in Sonic 3 And Knuckles is if you get a Giant Ring in Marble Garden Zone and Lava Reef Zone if you have Super Sonic or Hyper Sonic, you lose most of your Emeralds. You only get left with TWO Chaos Emeralds. Imagine unlocking Hyper Sonic and then lose him trying to get an extra 50 Rings to keep your Form going.
I actually think the main reason they removed the voice lines from the Sonic CD remaster was because for whatever reason in Sonic Generations and Forces, they decided to make Classic Sonic go mute which is kinda stupid since Sonic could still talk back then, but there could be some other reason.
Sega really needs to rethink it's development strategy. Sonic Origins should have been an easy win, but they managed to mess that up. Needless to say, this certainly lowers my expectations for Frontiers even more. Either let the fandevs make more games, or give more time to your top franchise.
Sonic Colors Ultimate should have been an easy win too. TH-cam recently put a video in my feed about the optimal way to set up mods to get the best experience playing Sonic Adventure 2's PC version. Why does that have to exist? Why can't SEGA do a single thing right? Frontiers, even if people liked it, definitely needed more time too. That pop-in is just... No. I'm not playing a game where the point is to explore the world and look for things that I literally cannot see because the render distance for them is so short. Maybe in a few years when it's $5 and modders fixed it.
I can 100% back sonic 3 air as the definitive way to play 3k, while not putting any discredit on the amazing work that Headcannon has done with it. Actually, one of my favourite TH-camrs was asked to work for Headcannon on the 3k remake, @A+Start (handles aren’t working correctly yet, but they will soon). He did glitch videos on many games before he was approached, and his first glitch video back was about Sonic. So… yeah. Btw great video! :)
To be frank, most us Sonic fans have already gotten used to SEGA releasing rushed Sonic games. It just goes to show that they have never learned their lesson from Sonic '06 and Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis (GBA). Shame on you, SEGA.
The Sonic Official channel released an accolades trailer for Sonic Origins, showing the high scores the game got, right in the thumbnail. Yeah, a game being rushed to meet a specific deadline doesn't deserve high praise, even if there are good things about it. Honestly, so many half baked games are getting such unreserved praise these days, like Switch Sports, Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Golf Super Rush, Mario Strikers Battle Leauge and now Sonic Origins. It's getting annoying that companies try to mask games imperfections with this sort of tactic...
Me too! If you havent checked it out yet, this IGN interview with the developers should put any worries at ease...guys working on it seem very excited to show off the product and also go into alot of detail on the ins-and-outs of the collection. th-cam.com/video/QkyxirDffIw/w-d-xo.html
Eldrain is a Chad! This was amazing and well written review. I agree with every thing you said. Seriously your making the same points that I did when it came out good job. Btw I do hope we get dlc. Like adding mighty, ray (with added move sets/some sections for them), and amy, and having kunckles in CD. And also adding kunckles chaotix's,3D Blast, and Spinball in wide screen and better controls and fixing the bugs/glitches. For 5$ dlc. Also being able to add the elemental shields and move sets from CD and 3andK into 1 and 2 as an option setting and also able to choose sonic' sprite. If they did all that. The 40$ thing would makes sense in my opinion do you agree.
4:40 the emulator used in SEGA Genesis Collection and the Steam versions of these games is godawful, which is why it's great that how it works is that you're buying the rom and the emulator bundled together. So if you go to the folder where Genesis Collection is installed on your PC, you can just make a copy of the Sonic 3K rom and play it with a real Genesis emulator. This is part of why it was so great having these Steam versions available, people who didn't care about perfect emulation could just play them and have no issue for the most part, and people with brains could just legally buy a rom for a few bucks and play it in their preferred emulator. Not anymore!
And if you wanted to play Angel Island Revisited, the Steam version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles was already in the proper format for you to just copy and paste it.
SEGA are to blame for rushing games, bad marking and every time they repeat history (more likely rushing new game during development) they’re doom to fail They should let Tee Lopes to do his version of S3&K OST 🤔
Origins was just a prototype. I expect in this lifetime as many re-releases of Old Sonic games as there has been re-releases of Street Fighter 2. Add more characters, bring back old music and remixes, and that rewind feature. Always wanted to cheat during blue spheres. Lol.
Sad thing is that I actually paid for this thinking Sega was going to release a finished product ha Frontiers is out the window for me, I am no longer interested and you shouldn't be either
Fun fact: even after the update, the extra unlocks for Sonic CD are still broken. I'll explain: Complete all the time attack requirements for the extras in Sonic CD, then check the Extras menu without leaving the game. All 4 options unlocked, good good. Now leave and re-enter CD. Go straight to the Extras menu. They're all locked. What the hell? Now back out and enter the Time Attack menu. All your times are still saved. Now exit that and re-enter the Extras menu. All unlocked again. The extra unlock flags are reset after every time you exit CD, and you legit have to just open the Time Attack menu to reunlock everything. Every. Single. Time. How did this get published???
So i bought the game recently, and my opinion, is MIXED. I can't believe that the game costed me whopping 45 dollars! I hope sega's not gonna scam me again. Pretty pissed about the price tag and its content.
theres so much good games getting ruined. Minecraft , angry birds, robots , even sonic. Mario is probably next. lets just enjoy these games whi!e we can
no wonder sonic games are bad, Sega has piss poor management and they clearly don't give a shit. Sonic could be more alive and well today if the company only gave a rats ass. the fact they did this to even the classic games is just pathetic. No disrespect to stealth and head cannon cause at least they were willing to come in and fix the game, that Sega modified without their knowledge. Sega used to be cool, I don't think so anymore.
Sega doesn't care enough since they've been out of the console wars. Sometimes they'll feel generous and turn out a half decent Sonic game, most times however no.
And here’s the funny thing, i still own sonic mega collection plus for ps2 from years ago, and it’s still a better collection than this ever was. It even has dr. Robotniks mean bean machine. That’s always a win to me.
Despite some glitches, I kinda enjoyed this game for the Super Sonic cheat codes in each game, except Sonic CD. Other than that, Sonic 3 And Knuckles should’ve been the only game to be remade.

new eldarin video less gooo🔥 this was such a great and thorough video as always, I haven't really been keeping up with origins news so this is perfect. I haven't bought origins and I'm not planning to anytime soon, I'd consider it if there's a huge sale price on steam. It's just sad and disappointing that they even mess up something like a collection that should be less complicated to make than a completely new game. Good thing i still got my sweet sonic mega collection 😩
I thought it was good. The only real issues I have with Sonic Origins is the music, which has a simple mod you can install (thedefinitivesonic3ost) to have the original tracks. The latency was off by a frame or two but I fixed that by playing the game in borderless fullscreen mode. And the price was a bit high but it'll go on sale. Other than those issues, which are fixable, it's a fun game that's more convenient than installing janky mods to make the original games almost as good as this. Plus you get these neat animations.
I love Sonic Origins, favorite ways to play these games, but so much about the collection is just so bad… Bugs that should’ve been fixed, blurry resolution, misleading information, TERRIBLE pre-order exclusive features, etc. I swear I haven’t ran into so many issues with these games until Origins. Really hoping for a patch for this collection soon.
As someone who has finished sonic origins I can say I had a great time but can understand how some issues can effect other people differently, and can see some missed potential in such a collection as well as SEGAs intent of simply releasing a collection for the anniversary
About the music, you can play the music while you browse the rest of the museum, you just have to add it to playlist. It’s still stupid, but it’s something.
I have this game on pc, and the bugs aren’t just bad…they’re weird. In carnival night zone act 1 last checkpoint, I did the mini game. After leaving the game put me at 9:59 and began killing me over and over and on each respawn. I left to the title and went back in; it was stuck at 9:59 but clock wouldn’t progressed and started me with 175 rings. Since then, the game does not save at all.
the game seems to run fine now except for one final complaint: the game refuses to save...i hate that i have to play any of the games to their completion each time i want to play.
I know I’m pretty late to the punch on this one, had some personal things holding me up from getting it out earlier. Nevertheless, hope you guys enjoy!
Awesome video
How am i gonna enjoy some one hating a game i like

Considering that I can only hear out of one ear anyways, I now have to look into Colors Ultimate based on how you described the audio.
What happened to the development on sonic games videos?
Sega needs to treat their mascot better. You can see the passion is there from the game devs, animators, marketing team, but the business side of things of wanting to get the product out fast as possible and benefit from popularity of the hedgehog being on the big screen is a problem.
It seems that they half-ass it because they know that, no matter what, Sonic stuff will sell.

Everyone has access to that code. Retro Engine uses a scripting language, modders managed to extract it, modify and inject new changes.
@@Gnidel Sega doesn't seem to know that lol

Things I find disappointing about Sonic Origins:
1. No inclusion of other scrapped zones, such as Wood Zone or Genocide City Zone.
2. Some of the new soundtracks for Sonic 3 & Knuckles are appalling.
3. Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D aren't playable or unlockable.
I also wish Knuckles Chaotix was included in the bundle.
@@202reece5 on a separate note, I'd love for there to be a Sonic Mania 2 game

I don't think a level called genocide city would go over well with the public, I know it was the original name of the cut level, but it should be called something else, like chaos city, calling it genocide city would be the worst PR nightmare of all time.
technically genocide city is act 3 of metropolis because they merged them together
But it's just 31, who cares, just delay the game and release it on the holiday season like everyone else does.
hahaha, this is the exact same reason sonic 06 released in the state it did. sega is actually run by braindeads who can't learn from their mistakes.
Sega of America with there shitty American developed games killed the genesis

It was an indepth yet nicely summarised look into the Sonic Origins situations with a decent balance of jokes sprinkled in.
i get the point of your comment but just to nitpick, gems collection is actually like, extremely lame. there isnt a single main title besides CD and then the rest of the titles are game gear entries like Drift, Labyrinth, and Tails Adventure lmfao say what you want but half the gems collection is objective filler, thats undeniable and i think that makes it a poor example of a good collection. mega collection, absolutely. gems collection, not so much
In my eyes the whitehead ports are still the definitive ports of sonic 1, 2, and CD

A few small things to point out:
you can play with no spin dash and even have sonics speedcap if you input the level select code in sonic 1s screen
the menu music is just sonic jams music, it's not even new
as for my thoughts 3&K was easily the least fun which is ironic since 3&K used to be my favorite. I just had way to many deaths caused by buggy collision and having 3 zones in a row of even worse versions of the prototype music really soured me on my favorite game.
never played sonic jam myself and holy shit you’re right💀

I heard about that too, which also allows you to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2's Classic mode, like you could on the Mega Drive. However, it not should not be this difficult to select other characters or tweak the settings and it some serious ass backwards logic to think it was a good idea.

Sonic 3’s “bugs” are just Robotnik’s diabolical traps

Man,looks like Origins was so bad that it made him quit TH-cam.

@@cst1229 I noticed with the new accolades trailer from yesterday that they've dropped the mention of new playable characters.

The clip of sonic drowning about 1/3 through the video legitimately made me flinch.
Fun fact, I'm pretty sure the extra sonic 3 super sonic frames aren't new, they were in the original but because of a bug the frames don't appear
The new character is knuckles and tails.
@@bestaround3323 Oh right tone is weird on the internet, I didn't intend to be rude to you, just whoever made that crappy excuse
Although I do think the Gamegear games were a nice bonus (Even though I don't care about/play them that much)
A lot of these are oversights that needed more time than what was given to flesh out.
He hasn’t posted in a year, sega got him
He's been sonicfied
Only Sega can even get the Colors Ultimate defenders to turn against them lmaooo
Its been 6 months, really hope you're doing well man
I actually think the main reason they removed the voice lines from the Sonic CD remaster was because for whatever reason in Sonic Generations and Forces, they decided to make Classic Sonic go mute which is kinda stupid since Sonic could still talk back then, but there could be some other reason.
No kidding, I’ll have to check out his channel that sounds right up my alley. That’s such an amazing opportunity, I'm happy for him!
Chad sonic mega collection plus vs virgin sonic origins
To be frank, most us Sonic fans have already gotten used to SEGA releasing rushed Sonic games.
It just goes to show that they have never learned their lesson from Sonic '06 and Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis (GBA).
Shame on you, SEGA.
They haven't cared enough since being out of the console wars.
Hope you're doing well man, those times in that discord server were awesome I hope you know that.
🤭
thanks man, glad you enjoyed them. hope you are doing good too!
No playable Amy (Rosy Rascal)
No playable Metal Sonic
No original Sonic 3 music .
No physical game edition
NOT BUYING IT 👎👎👎👎👎
ofc no metal sonic its like saying "no playable eggman"
The Sonic Official channel released an accolades trailer for Sonic Origins, showing the high scores the game got, right in the thumbnail. Yeah, a game being rushed to meet a specific deadline doesn't deserve high praise, even if there are good things about it.
Honestly, so many half baked games are getting such unreserved praise these days, like Switch Sports, Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Golf Super Rush, Mario Strikers Battle Leauge and now Sonic Origins. It's getting annoying that companies try to mask games imperfections with this sort of tactic...
Off topic, I'm super excited for TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection. I can only hope it is not as disappointing as Sonic Origins.
Me too! If you havent checked it out yet, this IGN interview with the developers should put any worries at ease...guys working on it seem very excited to show off the product and also go into alot of detail on the ins-and-outs of the collection.

When mods of a rhythm game where people make random noises and call it rapping is better than actual big releases
SEGA are to blame for rushing games, bad marking and every time they repeat history (more likely rushing new game during development) they’re doom to fail
They should let Tee Lopes to do his version of S3&K OST 🤔
Origins was just a prototype. I expect in this lifetime as many re-releases of Old Sonic games as there has been re-releases of Street Fighter 2. Add more characters, bring back old music and remixes, and that rewind feature. Always wanted to cheat during blue spheres. Lol.
Dodged a bullet. Thanks!
I want a Sonic 3 and knuckles game on Switch, but I’ll wait for them to get their heads out of their butts.
Just download the switch port of Sonic 3 AIR it’s very worth it
Not gonna happen
@@colburnrescores6654 how do you get that on switch?
@@Dan-ch8kv just search it up online and there should be a guide telling you how to do it but you need to make sure your switch is homebrewed
Menu music is from Sonic Jam on the Saturn
Sad thing is that I actually paid for this thinking Sega was going to release a finished product ha Frontiers is out the window for me, I am no longer interested and you shouldn't be either
Removing Sonics," I'm outta here!" Line from CD feels like a hate crime
How did Sega fuck THIS up? This should have been a no brainer. I’m so disappointed in Sega.
Fun fact: even after the update, the extra unlocks for Sonic CD are still broken. I'll explain:
Complete all the time attack requirements for the extras in Sonic CD, then check the Extras menu without leaving the game. Every. Single. Time. How did this get published???
god, I hope they never remake/remaster the adventure games now
So i bought the game recently, and my opinion, is MIXED. I can't believe that the game costed me whopping 45 dollars! I hope sega's not gonna scam me again. Pretty pissed about the price tag and its content.
I think they get one bite at the apple like this. People will remember this next time
theres so much good games getting ruined. Minecraft , angry birds, robots , even sonic. Mario is probably next. lets just enjoy these games whi!e we can
Because nowadays people want to make money first and not the actual game, so devs stop trying now...
Sonic 3 A.I.R is where its at guys..Give it a try.
no wonder sonic games are bad, Sega has piss poor management and they clearly don't give a shit.
Even the menu theme which you thought was a bop and inspired by mania is a remix of a song in Sonic Jam
And here’s the funny thing, i still own sonic mega collection plus for ps2 from years ago, and it’s still a better collection than this ever was.
It even has dr. Robotniks mean bean machine. That’s always a win to me.
Sounds like a Cybershell video.
Despite some glitches, I kinda enjoyed this game for the Super Sonic cheat codes in each game, except Sonic CD. Other than that, Sonic 3 And Knuckles should’ve been the only game to be remade.
Sonic 3&K isn't glitchy. Those are just Dr. Robotnik's diabolical traps.
im still waiting when ppl will realise SEGA is shitty company, espacially sonic team... how many half-ass products do they need to produce for ppl to wake up? All of their 2010's were (except generations) disaster, even worse than early 2000's, at least SA 1 and 2, sonic 06, unleashed were made with love, high quality and nice story telling
Sonic Colours wasn't bad.
@@bakedbeans5494 oh wow, not bad, they did 1 game that turned out okey, 1 which was nice- sonic generations and the rest of the decade we get nothing, sonic mania wasnt even produce by sega and sonic team. dont excuse them.
@@sheenie8897 I'm not excusing them. I just said that Sonic Colours wasn't bad.
Sonic 06 was not high quality, like at all
I dont know Man, the Yakuza games are pretty fantástic, and Valkyria 4 was pretty good.
Seems More like they just dont care about Sonic.
The reason sonic 3 and knuckles had changed music was because some songs they lost rights to.
new eldarin video less gooo🔥
this was such a great and thorough video as always, I haven't really been keeping up with origins news so this is perfect.
I haven't bought origins and I'm not planning to anytime soon, I'd consider it if there's a huge sale price on steam. It's just sad and disappointing that they even mess up something like a collection that should be less complicated to make than a completely new game. Good thing i still got my sweet sonic mega collection 😩
Why are we cursed to deal with sega’s never ending buffoonery whyyyyyyyyyyy
Sonic origins was so bad that Eldarin left the internet
That opening was hilarious
Sega is returning to the dark side
I thought it was good. The only real issues I have with Sonic Origins is the music, which has a simple mod you can install (thedefinitivesonic3ost) to have the original tracks. The latency was off by a frame or two but I fixed that by playing the game in borderless fullscreen mode. And the price was a bit high but it'll go on sale.
Other than those issues, which are fixable, it's a fun game that's more convenient than installing janky mods to make the original games almost as good as this. Plus you get these neat animations.
That's what I wanted for ice cap to still sound and wow made the prototype music fit I gotta really applaud the fans that's what I wanted wow 😲
I love Sonic Origins, favorite ways to play these games, but so much about the collection is just so bad…
Bugs that should’ve been fixed, blurry resolution, misleading information, TERRIBLE pre-order exclusive features, etc.
6:04 i know this was a joke, and I find it funny it’s even funnier that indie devs have done more than sega ever could have
Never thought I'd see sega pull a rockstar
I have this game on pc, and the bugs aren’t just bad…they’re weird. In carnival night zone act 1 last checkpoint, I did the mini game. After leaving the game put me at 9:59 and began killing me over and over and on each respawn. I left to the title and went back in; it was stuck at 9:59 but clock wouldn’t progressed and started me with 175 rings. Since then, the game does not save at all.
the game seems to run fine now except for one final complaint: the game refuses to save...i hate that i have to play any of the games to their completion each time i want to play.
