- Join us for a Saturday night out on the town in Longyearbyen! We are having a nice evening out in the northernmost village, enjoying some Norwegian Christmas food at the restaurant Gruvelageret. This restaurants has a lot of history and is located in a part of the village that was burned down! I hope you enjoy this video! 🧡

About Cecilia:
Cecilia Blomdahl is originally from Sweden and moved to Svalbard 6 years ago. She works as a photographer and videographer in Longyearbyen, and with her social media channels. The story of how Steve restored the building and started the restaurant is very inspiring. Running a restaurant is a tough business under the best circumstances, and all those additional things that Cecilia mentioned shows a 'can do' attitude which seems to be a feature of Svalbard. A reminder that resilience is an important quality, and perhaps not as widespread as it should be..

Really love how you included the history of the restaurant and backstory about its owner. I also really enjoy seeing the prices of the meals and specifics about the food. Those details really add to the video and make it even more interesting to watch!

Your videos are inspiring me to embrace the wintertime! I've been reading a book on "hygge" and your life in the polar winter evokes this concept perfectly.
I live in the northern United States where we also have long winters and this mindset really has helped me actually enjoy wintertime, get out into the fresh air, and appreciate the season as a time to reflect, reconnect, restore and appreciate the simple pleasures in life!

I live in the south of Greece. With very light snow (compared to Svalbard standards) the whole country shuts down. Schools close down, people stay in their houses, the whole country complains profusely about the weather and you basically don't go out until let's say March. And here you are going out to a restaurant in the middle of a snowstorm 🙄. It creates a whole different perspective for me. Your videos really lift me up. I love your channel with all those amazing sceneries. I really like how optimistic and lively and funny you are and that calm strength vibe that Christopher exudes (and his recipes) and Grimm's aloofness. Anybody else enjoying the vlogs while also researching flights and airbnbs to calculate costs for a trip to see Svalbard as well at the same time haha. I love the cold but stepping out the box for sure. It's definitely not cheap haha

I have a dear friend also named Cecilia. She’s from Finland but was raised by a Finish ambassador father all around the world so only partly sees herself as Finish. She married a Norwegian when they were both located in India! Gosh, I feel so sheltered. When they speak privately, like in a dispute or with relatives, it’s in Swedish! But anyway, she speaks English with only a faint accent, like you. His Norwegian accent is so thick I often just nod and smile. But his career put him in Los Angeles about 12 years ago, when we met, and they’re so Californian now that when they visit Norway they are in shock from the dark and cold, but still love it. As a native Angeleno, I’d die even in foggy Seattle! 😂 Kudos to you and so glad I stumbled on your channel. Love the aurora borealis! 💚 Thank you for sharing your stories.

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the history of the village and how the restaurant owner preserved many relics from the mine and old buildings. Those people who worked there should be remembered. The restaurant definitely has that warm cozy appeal and yet there's a certain eloquence about it too.

It also wonderful that they haven't change the look on the building too much since the old days either.
