    Hey everyone! Welcome back - I am back today, with the RWBY VOL 7 SOUNDTRACK!!!!! OMG guys, this might be one of my all-time faves! Brand New Day is officially my new favorite RWBY song EVER!!! And I also loved the upbeat tone of songs like Celebrate, Touch the Sky, and the opening theme Trust Love. What a great balance though, to mix in more chaotic songs like Hero (Caleb's vocals are INSANE btw) and slow, philosophical songs like Fear. Also, sorry for getting confused about War! Overall I LOVE this soundtrack for both the classic RWBY vibes and experimental sounds as well. It encompassed the zeitgeist of the volume perfectly!!!! And now, on to VOLUME 8!!!! See you there! Enjoy!!! ~ MH

    Regarding the art for War - it’s showing the four singers dressed as Ruby, Yang, Harriet and Elm, and the one dressed as Ruby with the Neo hair is Casey, who had her hair dyed like that at the time.

    For the song Touch the Sky, while it certainly can be attributed to all four members of team RWBY, I also like to think it's Blake's first song only sung by herself. In fact, as the song is all about rising from past mistakes and finally being free, in the very end of the song, you can hear Adam's usual drumbeats trying to take over, only for Blake's piano to drown him out. She's finally free of his shadow looming over her, and you can tell.

      Why does everyone always forget Wings? We have had a solo blake song since the first volume folks. She usually has duets, yes. But still. It just surprises me every time I see this comment. Wings is the alot of peoples favorite songs too. Personally for me its #3 out of her songs (Nevermore, From Shadows, then Wings for me) but like... its possibly the best slow songs Jeff has done?

    • @smokestarrules
      @smokestarrules 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@undeathghost5627 oh don't get me wrong, Wings is great, and it's certainly a solo song /about/ Blake, but looking at the lyrics, I've never really considered it a Blake solo. My interpretation has always been that someone else is specifically singing /to/ her, probably either Weiss or Yang considering the show's context of what's happening in the timeline.

    RWBY V7E11 We learn and hear Ironwood's theme; For the first half of the episode he was the hero, in the second half he was the villain. He's the Harvey Dent of RWBY.
    Edit: and yes, Caleb Hyles was a brilliant choice for the song. His vocal range is absurdly amazing. I also recommend you check out Jonathon Young, he and Caleb have colabbed a number of times.

    Personally I feel like Touch The Sky is more about Blake, especially for the line of illuminating the darkness that was blinding her and finally being so full of hope.

      The piano bit towards the end does sound like something from a Blake song, but I’m not sure it’s entirely about her… Maybe though.

      My personal take is the one presented by Sirs and Madams in their video. Touch the Sky is talking about the whole team. There is lines associated with each member throughout the song. Brand New Day on the other hand feels very strongly associated with Blake and Crow... the "Bad luck pair" of our cast. (to quote a line from Qrow's song: "Im a cursed black cat" [not intended this way in Qrow's song but in general is how Blake feels about her own life], "'I'm an albatross")

    • @oolongtherabbit9131
      @oolongtherabbit9131 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I really agree. Though, with Lionize, it's more of a "I'm the best, I AM your hero" type of thing, but with Hero, it's a "I will help, I WILL be your Hero".
      Then, there's a similar line with "I have the strength to do what's needed" and "Trust me to be strong".
      I feel they have very similar "protection" songs, but Ironwood's seems more sincere, not caring about his self-image while Adam's more on him getting attention and love

    I know "Hero" is about Ironwood protecting Remnant, but if you read it as him protecting the RELICS it makes even more sense, especially following the events of V8. The relics are the only constant in Ironwoods priorities, he is fine disregarding and forsaking everything else as long as he keeps the relics away from Salem and he considers that a "win"

    • @DarthDragon007
      @DarthDragon007 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, considering the relics will bring back the Gods who at this point would more than likely wipe out all life...again (except for Salem), I would protect them fiercely too.

  • @morlock2012
    @morlock2012 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think you're in the right area for what Hero says about Ironwood, but I don't think he's a classic Messiah complex. I don't think he has a particularly high view of himself, but just doesn't trust others to do a better job. Aggravated by Mettle, where any decision he makes becomes the only option.
    Watts pegged him perfectly in 'Gravity', when Ironwood said he'd sacrifice anything to stop Salem, and Watts simply replied:"I hope you do James".
    Sacrifice is necessary, *sometimes". The few to save the many. But Ironwood has become too quick to sacrifice, because at heart he is terrified of Salem, after the fall of Beacon. It takes more that armies to defeat her, but armies is what he's invested in (that's partly Oz' fault.)
    He doesn't know how to win, so he tries to buy time, fortify his stronghold. Its all rational, but doesn't generate hope, doesn't inspire trust, unity. That's constantly undermining his plans, and what Salem is constantly exploiting.

    I would recommend taking a listen to the acoustic song for V7, I May Fall (which was one of the hard rockers originally on the V1 OST). The string arrangement by Erin Reilly on her cover of I May Fall apparently caught Jeff's attention enough that he had her do the string arrangement and credited her as a co-arranger on the song, and Erin also was one of the vocalists in the V7 song War. Casey's vocals on this song are beautiful, and in rather stark contrast to the original arrangement from V1.

    "His heart is in the right place, he's just... misguided" -Ozpin vol3, i don't think he sees himself as a deity or has a hero complex believing himself to be so, but more so that he wants to be that hero, he's desperately doing what he thinks is necessary, so long everything isn't lost. He knows he makes mistakes, and that he's disliked, his desire to protect remnant tops that. Tho that much pressure leads him to being paranoid and wanting an iron grip to be on control of the situation as much as possible.

    Many people also interpret Celebrate as a bit of a Bumbleby song. obviously not directly, Robin's victory party is the focal point however the scene was originally meant to be a montage of all 3 of the group's nights, Jaune, Weiss and Oscar going to the movies and Yang and Blake at the Nightclub with Team FNKI. They wanted to a choreographed dance scene as an Homage to Monty similar to the JNPR scene at the party in volume 2 but unfortunately was cut do to the complexity, Rooster teeth was infamously going through a crunch issue at the time.

      Well I wouldn't say that with lines like "take my hand" and in the show they did have some people already evacuated from mantle with Iron Wood saying "We are saving who we can". And of course there were many other factors involved but if he could he would try to save everyone in mantle as well its just that he did not have the time and resources to do so. Also keep in mind I am talking about volume 7 Iron Wood and not horribly written Volume 8 version.

    Here's the thing: Salem is close to owning 3 of the 4 relics. Once she gains all 4, she will summon the gods, and the humanity will cease to exist.
    Salem just gained the Lamp of Knowledge in the end of Vol 7.
    Cinder can open the Beacon Vault once Salem finds it. Salem can simply wait for the Lamp to recharge, and ask Jinn about the locations of other relics/maidens.
    The Atlas relic and the Winter Maiden are both within Salem's grasp.
    Ironwood's plan included moving two of these relics out of Salem's reach. While he was sacrificing half of Mantle, he attempted to win the war and save humanity.
    Team RWBY decided to fight against this (probably millions of years old) immortal master manipulator/strategist with near god-like powers. And note that while we have seen Salem's group, the good guys have no idea how many people are loyal to Salem. And on top of that, Atlas just had a fight against Grimm invasion and is not in full power.
    I love team RWBY, but they were too naive in this decision.

    Alright, V7. Let’s go:
    - Trust Love - Pretty solid OP. Rank it at about a 6 (out of 8).
    - Touch the Sky - Personally, I think this is a Blake song. The ending instrumental even sounds like Adam’s guitars in Lionized being slowly overcome by Blake’s piano motif. This is the first volume where Adam isn’t a threat to Blake or her loved ones anymore, after all. It would also just be nice for Blake to have her own solo song. All her others are duets.
    - Hero - Caleb is a legend. That operatic start really threw me the first time. Also, just such a fitting song for Ironwood.
    - Brand New Day - Speaking of Blake only having duets. An odd choice for duet partners but there are definitely some similarities. Both saw themselves as Bad Luck to those around them. Both (at least at the start of this volume) were in a brighter place after some serious dark times. Love the do-wop feel.
    - Let’s Get Real - This feels like such a cute follow up to Boop. Really fun song.
    - War - This song is a jam, though it feels way too short. I love the fanart for this one, with each singer dressed as a character. Casey (with her Neo hair) as Ruby, Dawn as Elm, I think that’s Adrianne as Yang (would make sense since she did Yang’s part in Nevermore), and then Erin as Harriet.
    - Celebrate - Least favorite of the soundtrack (tied with Fear I think) though that’s not a slam against it. It’s fun but not quite my style. One of Lamar’s best raps though.
    - Until the End - Casey did a really good job with this one. It’s so haunting and beautiful. It’s also just nice to finally have another Ruby song.
    - Fear - Pretty good credit song. Not much else to say. Tied with Celebrate for last place on this soundtrack.
    Wow, almost at the end. Then you’ll be waiting with the rest of us. (I know you’re probably already done considering your upload schedule).

I thought his downfall in V7 was well written, but while I still view him as a grey character, to me it feels like RT is trying to make him out to be this terrible guy who’s completely wrong and nothing justifies him while everything team RWBY does is right (when even they made their own mistakes). Idk that’s just me really

      @@bigmexy924 Nah I get what you mean. I just see it a little differently. He's reached the point where his fear has led him down a path that *is* all bad. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. He had them. He had them in spades. But it didn't work out. His plans, the ideas he had where he was the hero of the story, the savior of Remnant, when they all failed and he had nothing left he doubled down and took it further. Still thinking he alone could save everyone, which now ended up being saving those he could. Except he puts himself in the place to solely choose who to save and who to let die. That is a pretty villainous mindset.

      @@averyofhousejade1176 I fully agree with you. Personally, I think they did just fine with Ironwood. In fact, I saw this coming ever since we were introduced to him in V2. He was always gonna go down this sort of path eventually. Salem & her followers just sped up the process.
