Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to the Vol. 4 soundtrack!!! WOW, these soundtrack reactions are a constant reminder of just how important and AMAZING the music is on this show! My all-time fave for this volume has to go to the Weiss-centric song, which got me going SO much!!!! Dang!!!! It felt like an arrow right to the heart, but then the arrow was filled with adrenaline and I got RILED UP!!!! :P I also really loved getting to hear ones like my man Qrow's theme, the beautiful "Home", and how can you not loved Armed and Ready?! GET IT?! Lol, Yang is everything!!!!! So happy I got to check this out, along with some fun bonus tracks too. Really excited to watch a few more extras and then get to Vol. 5!!!!!! Enjoy! ~ MH

Apparently, Casey didn't read the lyrics to Home before the first take, and mid song she realized Jeff had written it for her, and she broke down in tears mid recording
"Let's Just Live" isn't just the intro and theme song of Volume 4. Jeff Williams wrote it also to Rally the CRWBY team who were seriously in doubt about what to do after Monty's passing. This was his way of saying that Monty would have wanted them to "Move forward, You must keep moving on". That is Why the Line "Move Onward; Not There Yet" spells out Monty's name. The slow part of the song is about Both Pyrrha's death and Monty's passing.

And the "God damn it" part of Armed And Ready is in reference to the fact Yang's Voice Actress Barbara Dunkelman loves to tell puns and other members of RT often reply with "God damn it Barb". Yang is the only character specifically written for someone Monty wrote her for Barbara because the two were the best of friends.

Yep, and Barb was the only one Monty had in mind when he created Yang, which I completely agree with. No one else could capture her energy and deliver it the way Barb does, in my opinion.
My head cannon is that "Home" was originally sang by Qrow as a lullaby to little Ruby and yang (like when it says"my friend" I hear my"dears") but now it's Yang singing it to find hope

Lusus Natre is from the end credits of the rwby game Grimm Eclipse, set in between volume 2 and 3. The song is about the villain of that game. It’s included in the volume 4 soundtrack because the instrumental was used in Salem’s first scene of the volume

This Life Is Mine is one of my favorite songs of the whole series.
The Sky Is Falling and One Thing are also amazing

To this day "Now this conversation's fin'lly over, Mirror Mirror now we're done" is one of my favorite lyrics, such raw emotion
also the strawberry sunrise line in armed and ready was a throwback to the yellow trailer when she orders a strawberry sunrise at Junior's bar.

Home is such a great song and has a great message, home isn't about a place it's about the people you love and who love you back.
Oh yeah, "Armed and Ready" is a pun for sure.
Dammit Barb
Bad Luck Charm is my favorite of this sound track. It just explains so much about his character. "You don't want the burden of my name!" That line is my favorite.
It was also the song that played during Qrow's fight with Tyrian. And then in episode 8, they played instrumentals of it as he explained his semblance.
"Home" is the song we had played when I got married to my husband. Even to this day, it still remains one of my absolute favorite songs just because it carries so much impact and conveys such a level of love.
The melody from Lusus Naturae is actually used in the show as well (not just in the game), usually when some Grimm is on screen. In Volume 4, there are 2 scenes where you can easily hear it. The very first scene of the first chapter, when we see a beowolf getting out of an "ooze pool" and the camera panning up to a bunch of other Grimm. The second one is at the end of chapter 11, when Ren falls to his knees and we see shots of the big Grimm that attacked his village. :)

I honestly think that This Life is Mine is not only the best RWBY song, but a great song generally. Many people who see repression and chains in their life can relate through this song of liberation.
On BMBLB (the song and the Ship) Consider many of the characters in RWBY are based off of characters in other literature, some more heavily related to their source material than others, Blake is Bell from Beauty and the Beast, and several other characters in the show take on roles of different characters in that story in relation to Blake's character arc,

That's one of my biggest hitches for still being in team Papa Qrow. 🤣
Qrow's semblance is helpful, sometimes, especially in a fight, he has limited control but he can make it spike, and seems to be able to at least slightly target it, this makes the environment work for him, especially as he's already aware of everything that could happen. This makes him one of the best active huntsmen around

This Life is Mine is my favorite RWBY soundtrack song. Always in my top 3. The intro Let's just Live is also great. But then again, the soundtrack is almost always smashing.
Edit: I love that Ruby vs the Beringel was included, loved it ever since, especially the beginning :D

This Life Is Mine, Armed and Ready, and Bad Luck Charm are still some of my favorite songs. They’re so freaking good! That pause and then the guitar riff in Bad Luck Charm is so damn cool!
Oooh I've been waiting for this!! Anyway to make it even more emotional, the slower part in 'let's just live' is a reference to not only pyrrha, but also to monty. By the way, every time you hear lines similar to 'keep moving forward' in the show, it's always a reference to monty's motto! And I absolutely love how much you liked bmblb and adored this life is mine ahahahahah V4 really has one of the absolute best soundtracks of the show

And and BMBLB is a non-canon song Jeff and Casey wrote it just to have some fun lol.
All the songs are non-canon, because none of them depict events in the show. The songs are about characters's perspectives and views, which is exactly what BMBLB gives you, same as any other song on the OSTs. The closest any of them get to "canon" is being diagetic, that is being heard by the characters in the story, like Red Like Roses Part II being played on Ruby's headphones in the first episode or Weiss singing.
I mean, do you really think CRWBY would approve the inclusion of a song that gets a character WRONG?

@@levihiramvasquezmorales1372 Yang's first appearance in the show was calling Ruby "little sister". Even in the Trailers, she calls Ruby "sis". At what point was that "changed"? I know there was some convoluted "here's how we can morally justify shipping Enabler" theories, but those two being related was established in canon immediately. I don't remember anything about Yang being the oldest, but I could see how the canon birthdates coming out in later volumes might affect that.

Yeah, Ruby vs. the Beringel is from the character short, and I love how it's basically a Dark Reprise of RLR Part I.
BMBLB came about because Jeff had some extra time due to a hand injury, if I’m remembering correctly, so he wrote this wonderfully sweet number for our girls. While it hasn’t appeared in the show (thus far) it’s just as official as any other tune, considering Boop was on the V2 soundtrack despite not being used in the show at the time.
This Life is Mine is such a banger. I remember all the rock concert Weiss fanart that came after this one was released. It was glorious.
As the comments have no doubt already stated, Move Onward Not There Yet is an anagram for Monty. And the line about losing a friend and keep moving forward were references to him, while still being applicable to the show.
And then the last of my favorites, Armed and Ready. What is there really to say about this absolute rockin banger? My girl is back on her feet and she’s gonna kick butt.

Late late comment here but: Yang's Voice Actress is known to be a pun demon. So she is ARMed and Ready, she brings the PUNishment. And the God Damn it! that is being said is a common reaction to her VA making puns, "God damn it Barb!" When I first heard this I was absolutely amazed by the fact they tied the voice actress into the song as well as the character, it's a really neat idea honestly, and not seen it elsewhere.
Oh my god yes, i SO love that lyric video of BMBLB, its so cute! Also, "This life is mine" is so powerful, i LOVE that at this point (even a little before) the fandom was changing their mind about Weiss, most people love her and in part is thanks to all the songs she has xD

Lusus Naturae is Latin for Freak of Nature, it was the song for Salem technically but was originally featured in the game Grimm Eclipse for a scientist who was making exploding suicide grim with acid attributes. Yes this song is technically for Salem though you’ll have seen by now.
The 'new' team in Volume 4 was referred to in two ways by the fandom, so CRWBY decided to include both.
RNJR and JNRR (Ranger / Junior), and the argument between Nora and Ren was one of the main arguments related to why each of the names should have been used.
RWBY is full of such amazing music as well, and there is so much depth to the lyrics and instrumentals.
I just can't wait to see your reaction to the Volume 5 and 6 soundtracks for Neo's song "One Thing" [Volume 5], as well as two of the hardest-hitting emotional songs off the Volume 6 soundtrack, "Indominable" and "Forever Fall".
If you haven't gotten to THAT episode yet (you'll know if you have), that will drive the feeling of the song home.

Fun fact about Sun WuKong, he is based off of his namesake, also known as The Monkey King. The same mythical hero from Journey to the East that so many other characters in anime were also based off of, including Goku [from Dragonball] and Goku [from Saiyuki].
Regards to Qrow, everyone's favorite Drunk Uncle, now you have an explanation for WHY, as Glynda so elegantly put it back during volume 3 "He's always drunk."
It is the only way he knows to fight the emotional pain and turmoil of his life, to the point that he has come to believe every little bit of misfortune that happens to anyone around him, was because of him. (He isn't wrong either).
Just re-watch the fight against Tyrion, and you'll see a LOT more going on. Accidents waiting to happen. Like when Tyrion ended up falling through the roof of that building, or when part of the building ended up falling at the exact moment that Ruby was standing right underneath it. Even his own injury, and the loss of Tyrion's tail could be attributed to his semblance.
Things start looking up for him in Volume 6 and 7 before his curse strikes again.
Regarding Weiss, her song, and her family relationships.
She was abused and treated like a plaything by her father, the person who was SUPPOSED to care for and protect her. The person who viewed her as simply a way to continue his own legacy.
While we can believe that he does care about Weiss, it is only in the capacity to which she is useful to him, and his efforts to convey 'tough love' to her are just abusive.
On the other hand, we have her mother, a woman who grew into a reclusive drunk because of the activities of her husband, a man who married her just for her family name. She was unable to provide Weiss with any kind of emotional support or care, because she could barely take care of herself.
Then we have Weiss' siblings, Winter and Whitley. Starting with the younger brother, every time I see him, I just feel an unbearable urge to punch him square in the face because of how much of a little weasel he is.
Last, we have Winter, probably the only blood relative who truly showed any kind of support and compassion to her younger sister as she was growing up. Winter, while also guilty of giving her sister some tough love when it was necessary, obviously cares very much about her little sister's well-being, and goes out of her way to help train her and push her to be a better person than their parents.
Finally, we have Klein. Our little man. The true father-figure in Weiss' life, it is obvious even from their first interaction, how much Klein cares about Weiss, even to the point that he helped her flee from the house, despite the obvious pain watching her go caused him.
Regarding the fourth song; "Home"
It is a song about family, and finding peace with your family (both blood relatives, and your closest friends as the family you have chosen for yourself).
So to address your question of it being a Yang song. That is both a Yes, and at the same time, No.
In essence, it is a song that truly captures the phrase "Home is where the Heart is."
It's probably in your notes about the song, but it was played during the finale of Volume 4 when Ruby was writing her letter to Yang, but carries over to when Jaune, Nora, and Ren were reflecting on all they lost, and all that they still had.
In regards to "ARMed and Ready", yes, it is a Pun, and it is a perfect fit for her character.
Also, this may be a spoiler, but YES there will be a Reckoning for Adam. The first was in Volume 5 (which you've already seen at the Battle of Haven), and the second, is in Volume 6, which is when Yang and Adam do finally face off again. Knowing the rematch is coming isn't so much of a spoiler, because the song you just listened to here pretty much says that it's going to happen, and when it does, Adam had better run, cause our little firecracker has grown into her namesake, and she is like a force of nature now. (Sunny Little Dragon)
In regards to Lusus Naturae (Freak of Nature) - This song was not part of the series, but rather, was the song played during the ending credits of the (originally) fan-made PC game, RWBY: Grimm Eclipse. RoosterTeeth bought the rights to the game while it was in development, and assisted with the story and development to allow for the game to be published as an officially endorsed product. (It's also a really fun action / beat-em-up game, even if it is kinda short.
The song is being 'sung' from the perspective of Dr. Merlot (a reference to The Island of Dr. Moreau), the primary antagonist to the story of RWBY: Grimm Eclipse.

In regards to BLMBLB (Bumblebee), it is a fan-service song with no true bearing on the series itself, as it implies a very different relationship between Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long than the one we have in the series itself. A large number of fans 'ship' the two of them as a romantic pair, and this song is fan-service for those who do.
While I personally have nothing against such romances, it doesn't truly fit with either of their characters, as the strong feelings of love between them are presented in the show to be more like the bond between sisters than lovers.
As for Blake, we know she is interested in men because of her interest in Adam (from when she was in the White Fang), and her interactions with Sun WuKong.
They put this song in the same album as "Morning Follows Night" which according to shippers, implies a romantic relationship between Sun and Blake. (This, also, isn't actually a real relationship in the series)
However, in recent volumes, another player has come onto the stage and Blake's interactions with this character imply that she may actually be bisexual. (Again, there is nothing wrong with this, because it does actually fit with her character growth and development quite well).
As for it being a "Fun, Bouncy, Love-Song", it certainly delivers on all counts, and is amazing fan-service.
this vol soundtrack is my favorite by a long shot. every song to me (except one of them) is an 11/10 while This Life is Mine is my favorite track in the series even through Vol 7
my favorite part of the Weiss song this life is mine is that the first part is "classic weiss" operatic, orchestral. the middle part is rebellious, but holding on, adding some rock elements and using a off kilt 3/4 time as opposed to the previous 4/4. then the end kicks into "new weiss" full rock band with a swinging rock tempo

In Bad Luck Charm does anyone else hear the melody from when he started activating his weapon in Qrow vs Winter?
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but the phrase "keep moving forward" is not just a repeated theme. It was Monty's primary motto, and his best advice he could give to others. So every time they mention moving forward, its a little salute to Monty, and the first time it was mentioned using those exact words, was in volume 3, by Qrow. After Monty's passing. And why the best way they honour his memory is by moving forward with rwby, volume after volume.
Yang's voice actress, Barbara Dunkelman is famous for her puns. I love that her song reflects that.
In volume 3 Qrow says, "I've been out there and I've seen the things She's made, and let me tell you they are fear".

Another addition to Lusus Naturae, the tune used at the beginning becomes Salem's theme music.
That beginning part more so becomes the Grimm’s theme. Salem’s theme is Divide.

Lusus Naturae was the theme of Doctor Merlot, the main antagonist of the video game, RWBY: Grimm Eclipse.
Basic rundown; scientist from Mountain Glenn that was convinced that the Grimm could be used and controlled to protect humanity, eventually became obsessed with them to the considering them the perfect creatures and wishing to use science to improve on them, creating mutant Grimm abominations that usually act as mini-bosses in-game. The game ends with Team RWBY and/or JNPR causing him enough grief inside his island laboratory that he simply triggers the island's self-destruct sequence to kill them all, but the students escape before it blows up. The "true" ending implies that Merlot also escaped, but he hasn't been seen, or heard from, since. He was also a personal friend of Ozpin's, but was unaware of Salem as far as we know. That would've been a funny interaction.
It's never touched on in the show because not a lot of people actually played Grimm Eclipse, so suddenly bringing in a villain that is personally familiar with the protagonists that most viewers had never seen may have come a bit out of left field.

Many people like to use line "You don't want the burden of my name" from Bad Luck Charm as proof of one popular theory that Qrow is Ruby's father. Like he left her with Tai because his Bad Luck would be really bad for a little girl. This added to things like "They are similar", "They are very close", "Tai barely even communicates with Ruby", "Can you see outlined Summer on the picture that Qrow have?" etc. I like this theory so much))

I like theory but I not really into them and since they pretty much tell everybody can belive what they want till the series show otherwise like the mangas or comic that are meant to be cannon till proven other wise inside the RWBY series, even grimm eclipse its meant to be canon for the main series even thou it was neves mention by anyone on the show and I was hopping that they add into someone else team like team CFVY before it became their own thing but it seems like that won't be the case

I mean technically his semblance is super helpful in his fights because it brings misfortune to his enemies so they have bad luck when fighting him. Id say thats very helpful the only problem is unlike all the other semblances we been introduced to he can't control it or turn it off its always on

This life is mine is my favorite song and I will tell you why.
As someone who grew up with a narcissistic parent who constantly belittled condescended to consistently put me down. A parent who I hung on their every word I agreed with them because the world told me adults knew best. In all honestly, it was the worst possible decision to believe in what they told me about myself. My mother was also a victim to this narcissist someone who is not deserving of the title of father. Fathers are supposed to be a pillar of strength but also fair, just, and warmth. He was none of those things. Instead, he assumed strength must come from the destruction and domination of others both mental and physical. But any strength derived in such ways is not worth it. Even my mother could not defend me against him because he made her meek and mentally fragile too much even to help me. When she saw me being treated so terribly she did not have the strength to fight back for me her own child. My mother was a good person but she was not strong that is when I learned goodness is not enough to make a good person it must be balanced with strength in order to create good in the real world. But not strength created from dominating others like that supposed father. He destroyed me put me into a deep depression and gave me an Inferiority complex that made me co-dependent on others. He made me dependent on him that way when I wanted to be my own person he would point to my inability to function without him as proof I was not capable or worthy of being my own person with a will separate from his. I did not have much help from my mother to break away from him it was not entirely her fault she was a victim like me. He made her mentally weak as well but I will never be able to fully forgive her for not finding the strength to help me out or defend me. Instead, I had to do it alone even as a child. She is a kind and warm person but she is not strong. The reason she married that man in the first place was for money without him we might have become homeless we could not survive without his money I'm sure that made my mother feel trapped. But even so, I just wish she could save me I had to save myself because If I did not I would never have been saved. It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life but I survived it. I relate to Weiss so much and I love this song. When I was small I was a little mouse I could hardly speak. I just did what others told me to no matter how bad it was for me I never spoke back I never stood up for myself I never spoke up for myself. All the adults around me said I was the most polite kid they have ever met adults liked me a lot but in reality, I was just a soules boy without a voice. It's not even that I lost it I just was never given the chance to even have one. But when I got away I just blossomed I finally discovered I had a will of my own my whole personality took a 180 and became very dependant and outspoke for my own needs still very agreeable and quiet but not at all a mouse. I Love Weiss's character she is my favorite for this reason and I love all her songs but This life is mine is my favorite.

BMBLB has been confirmed and declared as not an actual canon song by Jeff, Casey, and Arryn Zech (Blake’s VA) - and they were raked over the coals in the media for saying so by all of the Blake/Yang shippers. It was very distasteful behavior on the part of the fan base.
Before anyone @s me, this is not a claim to say that their ship could never become canon - merely that this song should not be considered an official confirmation of the ship, and needs to just be treated as the extra bonus track they intended it to be.

As for Qrow, yeah. Go back to the scene where he shows his photo of his old team to his nieces. Notice the moisture stains that form a circle and random spots Jackson Pollock style. Think about how they may have got there. You may be on to something, his semblance causing someone's death.

So shipping in Rwby is weird. Monty was pretty clear from the beginning that there are LGBT characters in the cast he just didn’t want to rush it and make it feel like Tokenizing.
Bmblb is just a fun song with no bearing on canon, like most of the songs, I mean a lot are about the girls overcoming their emotional struggles but they can only make strides in show. In the beginning only jaune x pyrrha and ren x Nora we’re planned, but Yang and Blake were always intended to have a deep emotional bond/friendship. No one was expecting the insane fan reaction to the possibility of the ship and the two voice actresses and a lot of CRWBY are very on board with the possibility.
