I remember seeing Unicorn episode 4 and thinking "WTF is THAT coolass thing wrecking shop?" Then I realized it was the Byarlant and I had already seen it in action during Zeta.

The whole scene was a 'look at all the new unicorn variants of kits you already have. Pre order is live!' I ain't mad at it though. I was actually loving the Scuba Zulus putting in work with the Zaku sniper wrecking...reminded me of the cod sniper drone kill streak that sucked on some maps but was so op on others that people would dashboard.
Still kinda confused as to what he was trying to do at the end with stabbing himself with the rifle. Was he trying to cause an explosion to Jihad some more feds or some zaku seppuku?
I almost thought Jerid was piloting it but remembered he died in Zeta
The only difference is it had a capable pilot this time…
There's a strange yet beautiful elegance of the Byarlant Custom when it's flying and fighting.

@@JeanLucCaptain and there was supposed to be a second one, but it didn't join in at first bc it had a malfunction at start up. In i think a manga thingy, it is then shown that this second Byarlant Custom is then able to join with Unit 01 to help mop up the rest

The fact there were two customs at torrington is very concerning. Imagine if both maneged to launch successfully
Either the Zaku I Sniper would've been shot down a lot sooner, or the first Byarlant would still be in the fight.
Prior to the Jesta Tristars and Delta Plus showing up, that Zaku I Sniper had undisputed control of the skies over Torrington Base. Though, the Federation were pretty busy on the ground, and their Anti-Air MS were destroyed, so I'm guessing it couldn't be helped.
The manga version has both i think with Rihde piloting the other
@@Bocalt Why would Ridhe pilot custom unit 2? The anime shows him in a Delta Plus arriving to the battle. Are the events in the manga different cause otherwise the only difference I'm aware of is the Zogok possibly now being misclassified
@@Nostroman_Praetor I do wish I could read the manga and final novel chapters. There are changes abound throughout all three versions from ms rollout to character deaths. But yeah he did pilot unit 2 on earth, guess the delta plus was in maintenance or something. There's even the p Bandai kit for it.

@@VisoredKuzu No one in the base actually knows that he was ex-Titans. He was stationed there as a Mechanic when the Titans was dissolved and he kept a low profile. Just so happens that there was a Byarlant in the base when remnant Zeon attacked. 🤣

Diez is one of the main characters in the Gundam Unicorn side story manga "The Truth of E.F.F."
Pye22 the Stark Jegan pilot was confirmed to be 1 of the pilots under Amuro’s command in Char’s Counterattack, a unit of highly skilled pilots in high-performance units, and a veteran of the Axis incident? It’s no wonder that he fought so well

The Byarlant is proof that sometimes all you need is high speed, high maneuverability, and a good base weapon to get shit done.
I never really liked it before, mainly the odd design and piloted by Jerid, but definitely some respect has been earned after this.

honestly i feel like the Byarlant Custom is way more intimidating then the original particularly cause of those way bigger claws you would think maybe make them like Zeons Iron Nails or maybe even heat claws but nope i think they were just there for shits and giggles
It's a nice idea, and it's certainly got the output. The way it tore through the old Zeon suits and threw them around suggests untapped melee potential.

Byarlant Custom & Stark Jegan were real titans that carried Gundam Unicorn OVAs. Wish we had more MS and pilots like them in other Gundam titles (like Brave Souls squad from Gundam 00 movie)

Byarlant is one of those suit designs that I hated when I first started getting into this hobby. It was so weird, and not exactly humanoid. But over time I've actually grown to appreciate for that exact reason. In a universe filled with so many "man made out of boxes" designs, it's nice to see something weird and different pop up.

The byarlant showing up in the Unicorn when they were invaded was a lifesaver. Seriously this mobile suit has only 2 weapons and still kick ass.
Byarlant is one of mobile suits that scream "Ace Pilot Only" in term of firepower? yeah he is not powerful but lack of powerful, he got high speed and really great agility and great reaction where ace pilot can show their full potential. With that said byarlant is only monster when Ace pilot use it

IRL situation with Messerschmitt Me-109F: seriously underarmed in terms of firepower, but the most agile of all 109 variants and fast for a fighter of its generation. Underperformed with the bulk of the _Jagdwaffe,_ but loved by German _Experten_ for its maneuverability and weapon accuracy.

One of my favorite mobile suits. it’s funny how this thing has kinda become Jerid’s signature mobile suit over things like the Baund Doc. But then again, this is Jerid, where most of his suits are grunt tier. So the Byarlant is the only semi-elite suit they can use for him.

I think the Byarlant Custom's counterattack in Unicorn is one of the best scenes in the anime.
Especially since it wasn't piloted by the main characters with plot armor. Also, all the Federations GM's, GunCannon Detectors, Aqua GM's got wasted before Byarlant Custom came in. It fought back and started taking names.

Funny thing about the ole cheese wheel. My brother used to be really uptight when he was around the family. He'd beep himself instead of swearing. So when it came to the Asshimar, he used to call it the "Buttmar" instead. Sadly, it became habit and I've never heard him correctly name that mobile suit.
I remember watching the Zeta episode where Jerid acquired the Byarlant and I was like "What an ugly mobile suit, fitting for an asshole like Jerid, then it started ripping MS apart like tinfoils and give Kamille and Karaba a run for their money. Its one of my favorite suits alongside the Gaplant and The O, they are fast, agile, and they carry limited but powerful weaponry.
Gaplant may have been my favorite MS/MA when I first watched _ZG_ those decades ago. The first times I saw it (the Earthside attacks on the flying base) I was stunned, "what the hell is this?? what a brilliant idea. this thing's unstoppable!"
Hopefully It Will appear in gbo2 soon, the byarlant and it's custom version. They're so awesome.

I just finished building my byarlant custom HG this morning, and if any are planning to get gut a sliver of the silver sticker and but it behind the visor for reflection
silver paint helps too. also, do this for any GM type MS that has the visor camera, like the Jegan and Nemo!

@@joshmcclure5562 neither am i, what i do is dab a tiny paint brush with silver paint (in my case, from my Silver Gundam Marker) and paint either the back of the visor piece itself or the area where the visir part will go

That Byarlant Custom from Gundam Unicorn was a one mobile suit wreaking crew, it should have made scrap metal out of the Efret,and the Shamblo.
The Efreet Schneid was piloted by One Year War veteran Fred "Ripper" Reaver, a former Federation ace and member of the Slave Wraith squad who defected to Zeon after the Battle of Jaburo. An ace with almost 15 years of experience with his machine (which, by the way, was heavily customized and upgraded over the years in order to keep up with newer Mobile Suits like the GM III)? Yeah, you basically need a Newtype to be able to handle that.

Paul Kelley Whatever, who ever was piloting the custom, was making short work out both outdated and current Zeon mobile suits, the Schneider would still end upon the loosing end of the fight, end of story.

I'll be honest, The Byarlant wasn't my favorite designed mobile suits when I first started getting back into the UC timeline. But after watching that fight at Torrington on Unicorn made me love its design. Gonna plan on getting the Byarlant custom sometime.

Look into the f-4 phantom. It has HUEG engines and is known as "the victory of thrust over aerodynamics"

So if the original lacked fire power, I have a spark of innovation.
Maybe a small rack of missles mixed with some powerful beam vulcans that are mounted on little turrets across the body. Make the claws on the hands stronger, and make the feet into claws, so now you can shoot by default and crush and swipe up close.
Or again, turn the hands into normal hands, put the cannons into the mid section as a bonus hip mounted weapon, some vulcans in the head and then you put a beam rifle into the normal hands. A much simplier solution.
Apparatus is a great idea though.

Please keep on making these. I love AOZ and titans but I just don’t know much about them and can’t find much info on TH-cam. Your videos have made me love them even more. TR-6 Hazel II would rock my world. The design of that one got me into gunpla.
It’s also very important to note that the Zee Zulu’s that the Byralant custom destroyed were brand new for the time. Crazy that a suit with such an old basis could destroy them
as char said "a difference in machine quality isn't everything."
Be awhere so that the zulu line was alrdy outdated when it rolled out not long after the events of chars counter attack and the byarlent was a machine built for experimentation meaning there were no mass production cost cutting measures in its design and the custom was more thrn likely given an upgrade that put it up the scratch with other ms of the time
Unit 2 was the coolest variant imo plus adding the fact that if it wants to it can also incorporate regular beam rifles or bazookas as optional armament made it a potentially much more devastating unit
Unit 2 had a shitload of firepower. Unit 1 was more melee to mid-ranged.

The Byarlant is such an under rated MS. Have been playing GBO2 for a while and can already tell that the Gouf Flight Types are fun to use and cant wait for the Byarlant to finally make an appearance.

The Byarlant in Unicorn really took my attention since the first time i saw it in battle
In my school vr game goalius has enhanced flight technology and it is a absolute unit sense goalius was pretty heavy at 2500 tons original 90000 tons but went into gms ( special sports facilities that increases mobile suits strength speed and mobility) and fyi Goalius was able to kick ass anytime anywhere anyway and anyhow and get this he once destroyed a zaku 3 squadron and returned back to home in minutes
I didn't know how sick the Byarlant until Unicorn.
I love the Byarlant so much, especially the Byarlant Custom, gotta love that Jegan-like visor.
As usual, great video, honestly, never knew that there was other units/mods of Byarlant other than the one that showed up in Gundam Unicorn OVA (and of course the first one showed up in Zeta Gundam series).

I always love that MS, the thin design that came from that 80's era, is my favorite of all time
The reason people think the byarlant was under- equipped is because they fundamentally fail to understand it's role. That purpose being to use it's speed and mobility to control a conflict. To give a picture, imagine in the middle of a fist fight the dude you were fighting flew into the air, got behind you, and punched you in the back of the head. That's it, thats the byarlant
And when you look at both the variable rate and intensity, it becomes even more terrifying. Not to mention the max intensity that outpaces almost the entire field of contemporaries.
This series seems great, I just found it and as a huge Gundam fan I've been missing content like this.

Byarlant Custom Unit 1 is my favourite desing in all of Gundam. Everyone can wreck things with a state of the art prototype super mobile suit, but it takes a special level of awesomeness to rip through that many suits with whats essentially an old ms upgraded with old parts.

I don't think any other old suit ever had a comback like the Bryalant did in Unicorn. That Custom became beloved. And did Jerid's even get destroyed in battle? I want to say he wasn't able to get to it and launch from the ship. Considering Jerid, while skilled, wasn't a newtype or that amazing an ace pilot, the fact he went through so much of the war in a stock Byarlant and did so well is a testement to it's design.
And underarmed is very subjective. Yes it's only got the beam weapons, but at this point in time Beam weapons were king, as only large and expensive units were mounting a really effective defense with I-Fields. Sure if I could refine the design, I'd try to give it proper hands while keeping the beam cannons, but that's just improving flexibility.
Finally, the Byalant's real strength was always it's manuverablility. That sucker didn't look it, but it danced, and anything that reduced it's ability to move around is damaging the real advantage of the suit.
I really really really hope this gets added into GBO2.

Loved this video! There is one more strange flight type MS that you should explore! The RX-78E GT-FOUR! Another weird flight transformable! Shitty to fight in, but possibly the stupidest yet coolest over designed suit that fly!
Thanks for making this. It was a great movie suit with not much credit. The custom came too late and the Unicorn series did a great job showing what it would have done but still too behind with all the new suits in Unicorn.

There's also 2 iterations of the Unit 2 variant; Bier Quatrieme's unit (The white/blue version shown in the video) and Riddhe's unit. (Zeta Byarlant colours)

Whoa the Byarlant Custom Unit 2 looks incredible! I've never seen it before. The built in canons attached to the boosters, the arm mounted beam rifles that double as long beam sabers, small shields covering those, a flight pack for long range flight. And it has hands so its (in universe) critics can shut up. What a damn elegant design.
Apparently Riddhe was supposed to have used it once in the Unicorn Manga, but they took it out of the OVA. What a waste. I would have loved to have seen this thing animated.
I've always loved the Byarlant line in general. Their concept is so elegant and simple, and I love the cheeky little in canon nod to the fallacy of the idea that all mobile suits have to adhere to this perfectly humanoid shape with the Hazel Ikaros that inspired making the Byarlant aerodynamic. It just has such a neat and unique shape, and I also love the built in weapons. I could almost see it as another bit of lampshading that people in the Universal Century would consider it "undergunned" simply because it has built in weapons rather than traditional manipulators, even though the benefits of having a built in all-round weapon like its M Particle Gun are substantial in their own right. The Custom Unit 1's performance is always one of the things even casual watchers of Unicorn often remember.
That moment where most of the Titan's units during the Gryps Conflict can have their concepts traced back to the Hazel and the Titans Test Team.

In unicorn tho, this thing just emerging and going one man army. Wrecking Zeon suits with a mix of firepower, close range brutality and a double helping of speed.

Thank you for making this I first seen the byarlant custom in unicorn and thought what a bad ass scene they even showed the cockpit a little but nothing else I absolutely loved it though
For next video, can you make video about A.L.I.C.E from Gundam Sentinel? I kinda want to know history about that system. Btw nice video.

Great video! I really like how far back you went with the flight type development. And any AoZ goodies are a welcome addition, too. Kind of makes me wish an Icarus upgrade kit for the HGUC Hazel kits was released, but it seems unlikely.
