That Zeon pilot was spittin though. It didn't really need legs, if anything it might even be better off without for less weight. Like the Guntank right. Imagine you're going off to a big battle and this caterpillar tank legged suit just cruises through space
Except the engineer was wrong. Legs in a MS provide AMBAC, giving mobile suits their trademark agility. Sticking legs on the Zeong wouldn't have improved the speed, but it would have improved its agility, allowing the Zeong to make faster turns and changes in direction.
@@EEE2431.- Except that is explicitly how they work in the lore. I didn't say it was necessarily how it would shake out in real life (where mobile suits would all be horrendously impractical), but it _is_ accurate to how MSes work in universe.
@@passingrando6457 the doubled weight doesn't really help with agility since you need much more thrust to turn. There is a reason why zaku is 50ish tons and this thing is 420 tons
This video disappoints me, it's such a shame that the Zeong's best feature was neglected by most of its successors. One of my favorite parts of the original Gundam was the "It doesn't have legs." "It doesn't need legs!" exchange. Especially because once you see it in action you realize that they're right; it really DOESN'T need legs.
Funny considering the most iconic scene in Gundam is Chars Zaku kicking the Gundam. Also watching how pilots move the legs for more agility when in space. Let just not mention the fighting on earth and colony’s.
AMBACS needs some kind of weighted thing to theow around to help the mech turn and flip without having to burn propellant best used to accelerate and brake.
@@zacharyradford5552 mobile suits never made much sense to me on earth. In space the benefits are very obvious. In reality on a planet you out fit tanks with guns capable of taking out zaku armor and they have the advantage. A 60ft tall mobile suit makes a hell of a target and you only need to take out something below the waist to make it unusable on Earth
Hearing sci fi talk about how brainwave controlled things are very responsive just makes me laughs in retrospect now that we know more about just how slow neural signals actually are compared to any other forms of communications and electronic processing systems.
Whenever I see the zeong for some reason I always remember that gundam-san episode where Amuro looks under the Dom's skirt Oh and when will there be a hazel development history? I want to see you talk about all of them. ALL OF THEM Wait why is the psycommu early test type called a zaku when it looks like an effect?
I love when we get stuff like the YMS-06Z, stuff that was clearly designed not to actually fit into the aesthetic of the era but for a completely different timeline of toys. Love the design itself but the Psycommu Zaku looks like it belongs in Unicorn, not the original series. The all-range attack... [TURN-X INTENSIFIES]
Love this video so thanks!!! Wasn’t much of a fan in the early days of this MS but now I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I bought a HG kit for nostalgia but now I absolutely want to buy a RG kit of this!!! The RG kit is most EPIIIIIC!!!
I feel like the Zeong is often underappreciated by Japan and Sunrise. I always see Chars Red Zaku II get a lot of merchandise and attention when it was basically unable to even harm the Gundam. The Zeong flat out defeats it and I never see anything made for it besides Gunpla and maybe Gatcha toys. I feel like that implies most people don't watch past the first episode.
well there was also the robot damashii figure and the MSIA action figure, and I've seen some plushies and pillows, I think the Zeong have been getting a better push lately marketing wise especially with the impressive RG kit
It's probably because it got so little screentime compared to most of the other suits he used, Like the Zaku II, Hyaku Shiki, and the Sazabi. He's had quite a lot of suits over the course of his life, so it's hard to put an equal spotlight on all of them.
I wonder how you feel about the Thunderbolt developments. I do think they change some of the canon with the decisions they've made but love how they've given attention and revitalized some older designs.
That Great Zeong looks reminiscent of the Kshatriya from Unicorn and those giant Neo Zeongs remind me of the Alpha Azeiru from Char's Counterattack! And I thought I was bad having the same two character names in all my NaNoWriMo projects even though they don't share universes! Mostly! (Two are Pokémon, two are Gundam Mars Colony Era (mine), one Borderlands and I'm scrapping and starting over with the pirates one in favour of a space adventure!) Speaking of, how about development history for Qubeley/Quin Mantha/Kshatriya?
I imagine Okawara was splitting hairs when making these designs. All the logic that had to fit in the designs. No wonder he was happy designing stuff for X and wing :D
had they finished producing all of the zeongs in time AND if the zabi family did not pull the PR stunt of giving most of their gelgoogs to young recruits then they may very well have won the war.
I just want to say thank you for the nods to the Crossbone Gundam mangas. They’re my favorite Gundam content and it’s really nice to see anything from them get shown the spotlight. And the use of Misato’s theme from Evangelion during that segment: priceless.
@@GojiraFan-in9oo It was featured in the non-canon manga that Space Runaway Ideon appeared in. Char, Amuro and Judau fought against it to stop the destruction of the universe.

Nice video! But you missed a few small things. There was actually a second Braw Bro unit made. At the Battle of A Baou Que in the anime, if you look carefully at the background, there was actually a 2nd Braw Bro unit that was deployed as part of the Zeon fleet. Secondly, in Char's Deleted Affair manga, the Perfect Zeong was deployed. Char did comment it was much more mobile. And the original technician who said the Zeong didn't need legs took back his words, and said that legs actually made a big difference in mobility. Thanks for the video, and take care!
With Mobile Armors and Giant MS it makes you wonder why they have Battleships anymore. I mean, they are just targets. Unless a Battleship can do half of what a Mobile armor can do they may as well retire them and just have refueling ships that hang back from the fighting.
Here’s an idea if possible, mass production battle royale. Fight between the different mass production mobile suits and to keep it balanced sticking with first generation mass mobile suits I.E. Zaku 2, GM, Ginn, strike dagger, Leo, and any of the mass production suits before the gn tau drives.
A mobile suit splitting it limbs and head to which each part can move and attack by remote control? The only one I know that can do that perfectly would be the Turn X Gundam. Also, I thought the name Zeong was supposed to be a play on "Zeon G-undam" as to that this was the Zeons version of the popular mobile suit.
the first thing that popped to my mind when they mentioned the "split its parts then continue operation" thing is King Joe from Ultraman series. it has basically the same concept.
ive been working on my own custom zeong for one of the gundam breaker games, mixing it with some gundam parts, mostly the Virgsos arms, and the Strike Freedoms Dragoons,, i made it to be an ultimate all ranger attacker, and i named it Sieg Zeong, as a play on words of its well, insperations developers
10:55 The Great Zeong looks like it was partly based on the Apsalus series of Mobile Armours from 08th MS Team. It also sort of resembles the later Kshatryia.
A lot of its individual parts are based on other Zeon mobile armors. The lower body is essentially a Big Zam, the torso is similar to an Aspalsus III, And the design as a whole might be based on the Quin Mantha, rather than the Kyshatryia.
I never liked the Zeong line. I don't know what it is about it, but it feels more super roboty and gimmicky. Still, cool video dude! I love how you frame these lore videos almost like in-universe documentaries. I actually get a kick out of imagining that kind of thing. Like in the old Star Wars books (pre-Disney) imagining an in-universe biography of Luke Skywalker decades after the war. Or in Gundam, 100 years post OYW, studying about the OYW in school, the way we learn about WW2 and such. Maybe I'm just weird, but I find that kind of thing really cool. As for Loot Crate, I had a subscription for about 2 years and I ended it about 2-3 years ago. They send some cool stuff. But it's all very very cheaply made. I liked a lot of the T-shirts they sent, but they were such poor quality that after wearing them maybe 6-8 times, they were faded, stretched out and basically little more than rags. Compare that to T-shirts I bought at Hot Topic a *decade* ago that I still have and wear regularly, after hundreds of washes. I'd much rather use my money for a smaller number of higher quality shirts and collectibles of my choosing, than get a bunch of random stuff that - while cool - is very poor quality.
Great Zeong (somehow I have mandela effect calling it Grand Zeong) it was a homage to all iconic Zeon's MA head -> Elmeth (also Zeong) chest-shoulder -> Apsalus III lower torso -> Byg Zam arms -> Zeong feets -> Bigro
The perfect way to make wireless comms for weapons that can’t be jammed by minovski particles or hijacked by a stronger new type with psycchoframe tech, and can also be used by old type would be to just use quantum entertainment.
Another fantastic video; I swear the design aesthetic of Zeon's mobile suits is like a drug. Do you have any plans for covering the MS-09 Dom and Rik Dom development histories?
3:38 Man, that's a neat colour scheme. Someone should reuse it for a newtype-use mobile suit. Maybe something with a psycommu system integrated into the frame.
I used the Bishop a decent amount in Battle Operation 2 and i like it. The High Mobility Type (Named Psycommu Zaku in-game) is also playable. And of course the Zeong is in the game too though he didn't appear until over a year into the game's lifecycle. The game is currently adding Zeta, ZZ & Sentinel stuff.
I love the Neo Zeong bc it was constructed with technology of the future/other world thanks to char possession of Full Frontal, it is what is said in the series; but no one really know how it actually works the new systems installed.
Engineer 1: you think putting the cockpit in the head will be a problem? Engineer 2: Sticking up out of the top and easy for a lucky shot to kill the pilot in one hit? Nah, Char is piloting it. He has enough plot armor to avoid that.
As soon as we get a Development History on the RX-78-2 A.K.A. The OG Gundam because the GM-Series (or Jim-Series depending on who you ask\pronounce it) were developed from the RX-78-2, which in and of itself, set the general precedent for all Gundam series to come.
I'm pretty sure it went like this " General: Well we successfully created the Gundam. Now let's mass produce them to trample Zeon! Fed. Politician: Sure but could you make a cheaper one? We can't afford all these Beam rifles and ball and chains for all of them. Ooh and paint them red, it will get rid of our stock of red paint. General: Won't that make them easier to hit. Fed. Politician: No, it will make them Badass like the Red Comet. Which I'm sure our pilots with zero experience with Mobile suits can handle" and that's how it went.
Anyone notice that the first test Zaku looks more like an Efreet than a Zaku due to the head? I think I remember 5, possibly more, or so Efreets were made and so far only 4 have been seen. Regular one piloted by Henry Boone, Doug Schneid Custom, Efreet Custom [EXAM], and the Efreet Nacht. Maybe the head came from a dismantled Efreet
There were 8 efreet created and we know of the 4 you stated and a nacht can be seen amoung the zeon remnants in unicorn. However it's likely they used parts from the efreet although it was a ground use mobile suit.
A few things Zeon needed to do if they wanted to win: 1: Fire M'Quve. Nothing he did was any good for Zeon. 2: Initiate the United Maintenance Plan sooner. Like, 'as soon as the Dom came out' sooner. 3: With 2 done, look at some of the machines that didn't make it into mass-production, update them accordingly and give them another go(the Zudah especially would've proved good in space). Variants of these MS(the Gyan especially would be nice, the Eos especially) may then be produced as needed. 4: Refit the large stockpile of amphibious mobile suits for use in space. No sense leaving them to rot, after all.
I'm getting some of my friends into Gundam and I'm gonna use the first minute of this video to explain what Newtypes and Minovsky particles are, thanks
Hopefully when you get the time since seeing thunderbolt gundam I would like to learn more about the psycho-zaku. Seems pretty neat how it could make a pilot without limbs more than a match for a gundam.

That's why it has the jovial music behind it.
It's canon in our hearts damn it.
Hence him saying supposedly and dismissing it at the end. He knows it's a joke like Skippy
I absolutely love the What If units from the G Generation games.
Though I completely forgot the Great Zeong was even a thing!
That Zeon pilot was spittin though. It didn't really need legs, if anything it might even be better off without for less weight.
Like the Guntank right. Imagine you're going off to a big battle and this caterpillar tank legged suit just cruises through space
6:14 because legs are for chumps
9:36 Ha!!
"The legs are just decorations, the top brasses won't understand that."
- A Zeon MS engineer.
Except the engineer was wrong. Legs in a MS provide AMBAC, giving mobile suits their trademark agility. Sticking legs on the Zeong wouldn't have improved the speed, but it would have improved its agility, allowing the Zeong to make faster turns and changes in direction.
@@passingrando6457No. It will double in weight with legs and good luck maneuvering with that
@@EEE2431.- Except that is explicitly how they work in the lore.
Zeong was perfect without legs
Hearing sci fi talk about how brainwave controlled things are very responsive just makes me laughs in retrospect now that we know more about just how slow neural signals actually are compared to any other forms of communications and electronic processing systems.
Whenever I see the zeong for some reason I always remember that gundam-san episode where Amuro looks under the Dom's skirt
Oh and when will there be a hazel development history? I want to see you talk about all of them. ALL OF THEM
Wait why is the psycommu early test type called a zaku when it looks like an effect?
The Hazel was actually part of the Byarlant's development history
@@GojiraFan-in9oo Yeah the key word is part of.
because as shown by this very episode Zeonic MS sucks at naming things.
Ah, yes, the Gundam-san omakes! Mostly they just went after Char for being a pedophile.
Because they just attached all the bits to a Zaku frame.
It doesn't look as cool as the Zaku
It should have been painted red.
It's probably because it got so little screentime compared to most of the other suits he used, Like the Zaku II, Hyaku Shiki, and the Sazabi. He's had quite a lot of suits over the course of his life, so it's hard to put an equal spotlight on all of them.
It tied. Wasn’t even a very convincing tie.
I wonder how you feel about the Thunderbolt developments. I do think they change some of the canon with the decisions they've made but love how they've given attention and revitalized some older designs.
*sees a new Kakarot197 vid*
*CLICK*
That Great Zeong looks reminiscent of the Kshatriya from Unicorn and those giant Neo Zeongs remind me of the Alpha Azeiru from Char's Counterattack! And I thought I was bad having the same two character names in all my NaNoWriMo projects even though they don't share universes! Mostly! (Two are Pokémon, two are Gundam Mars Colony Era (mine), one Borderlands and I'm scrapping and starting over with the pirates one in favour of a space adventure!)
Speaking of, how about development history for Qubeley/Quin Mantha/Kshatriya?
Gundam encounters in space ost oooooooooh mai gaaawd, ps2 were truly the golden days
I imagine Okawara was splitting hairs when making these designs. All the logic that had to fit in the designs. No wonder he was happy designing stuff for X and wing :D
Qubeley development history might be interesting... seeing as how it goes from a psycommu Dom test to the Kshatriya.
Dang, I'm really digging those white Psychommu Zakus. Imagine at least an MG of it.
had they finished producing all of the zeongs in time AND if the zabi family did not pull the PR stunt of giving most of their gelgoogs to young recruits then they may very well have won the war.
I just want to say thank you for the nods to the Crossbone Gundam mangas. They’re my favorite Gundam content and it’s really nice to see anything from them get shown the spotlight. And the use of Misato’s theme from Evangelion during that segment: priceless.
FINALLY. CHAR'S ULTIMATE MOBILE SUIT
@Hikaru shidou Sazabi is debatable
But Nightingale is the most obscure Char machine
@@GojiraFan-in9oo I think the Suzaku would be the most obscure.
@@Kenny_F91 huh? What is the Suzaku?
@@GojiraFan-in9oo It was featured in the non-canon manga that Space Runaway Ideon appeared in. Char, Amuro and Judau fought against it to stop the destruction of the universe.
I would argue the neo zeong is superior
I just realized, when the zeong is posed like in the thumbnail it kinda looks like a head
the "splitting into multiple sections" gimmick did make it's comeback though... in the Turn X
I love these videos. Perfect to glance at and admire the many unique mobile suits while tinkering with my computers!
I am of the opinion that it is a great thing that Kakarot's been doing like our own GUNDAM HISTORY channel. A purely objective view of the technical advances that are borne from conflict. Well done, Cheers.
I’m so happy you referenced the B Gundam’s supposed influence on the Perfect Zeong’s development with the same music too!
You're really knowledgeable when it comes to mobile suits and their history I really like it thank you for the info and the history lesson
Thanks to Gundam Battle Assault 2 for the Playstation, I know about a quarter of what you're talking about.
Huh. So this is there the Turn X's ability to split into different parts comes from.
I never thought that the Zeong had such an interesting story great video btw !
With Mobile Armors and Giant MS it makes you wonder why they have Battleships anymore. I mean, they are just targets. Unless a Battleship can do half of what a Mobile armor can do they may as well retire them and just have refueling ships that hang back from the fighting.
I mean... Ya gotta have a way to carry Mobile Suits/Armors around.
And in Wing G Unit a Gundam uses a similar concept.
My favorite MS... Almost every chance I get with any game, I love piloting the Zeong and Generations of it.
Turn X is *not* a gundam.
the first thing that popped to my mind when they mentioned the "split its parts then continue operation" thing is King Joe from Ultraman series. it has basically the same concept.
I really like that theory on the Zeong's name, it even has a parody of the Gundam's v-fin with the ear antenna
I support the Great Zeong just because of its look and gimmick
ive been working on my own custom zeong for one of the gundam breaker games, mixing it with some gundam parts, mostly the Virgsos arms, and the Strike Freedoms Dragoons,, i made it to be an ultimate all ranger attacker, and i named it Sieg Zeong, as a play on words of its well, insperations developers
I love the Zeong, both perfect (and what I would call the imperfect Zeong).
I know it was only in Battle Assault but I'm a little sad I didn't see the "Beam Kick" the front thrusters could do in that game.
Seeing the 2nd psychomu Zaku in Thunderbolt was pretty sweet
This is my favorite one year war MS Thank You!
And the Neo Zeong looks like it draws fron the Neue Ziel in the shoulders department.
Great Zeong (somehow I have mandela effect calling it Grand Zeong)
it was a homage to all iconic Zeon's MA
head -> Elmeth (also Zeong)
chest-shoulder -> Apsalus III
lower torso -> Byg Zam
arms -> Zeong
feets -> Bigro
IMO they missing Neue Ziel, make it as wings / backpack
The perfect way to make wireless comms for weapons that can’t be jammed by minovski particles or hijacked by a stronger new type with psycchoframe tech, and can also be used by old type would be to just use quantum entertainment.
Looking forward to your review video of the RG Zeong!
i was waiting for this for a long time thank you
Another fantastic video; I swear the design aesthetic of Zeon's mobile suits is like a drug.
As a SoCal former surfer, I lol'd at an MA named Brah-Bro
I love the Neo Zeong bc it was constructed with technology of the future/other world thanks to char possession of Full Frontal, it is what is said in the series; but no one really know how it actually works the new systems installed.
9:24 Wait a minute, is that Char's Zaku 2, or the Gelgoog (?)
It might be the char zaku 2
Engineer 1: you think putting the cockpit in the head will be a problem?
Engineer 2: Sticking up out of the top and easy for a lucky shot to kill the pilot in one hit? Nah, Char is piloting it. He has enough plot armor to avoid that.
when are we getting RGM development history
Eeegh, taking the Federations decisions in the sequel series' I gotta agree with you. Also I just have to say UFP>EF
@@ThatCatJay im pretty sure the one in Unicorn is Doug's refitted for modern technology and piloted by Fred Reber
@@shawdawg3675 oh really? I didn't know. All I knew about the machine was it was a purple efreet with heat kunai. Nice to know thanks
The Zeong, Big Zam and the Nuev Ziel are my fav weapons from the Universal Century.
Some time ago I did the Kikeroga in Zeong colors and it was pretty cool. But still, I need to start working on Great Zeong someday...
In the SDGGen games atleast a few games, the Zeong upgraded to the Neo Zeon's Hamma Hamma having wire guided claw beam hands..
Thunderbolt's Zeong gets no love...
Love it when you do these videos.
Legless Development History
Ball
7:34 Wonderful thanks to that Mobile Suit B Gundam, that idea was to make Psycho Gundam and Destroy Gundam born into Gundam franchise
Wild that this concept essentially got revisited as the hero Gundam of Witch from Mercury.
A few things Zeon needed to do if they wanted to win:
1: Fire M'Quve.
I was wondering if in your next QnA video you can answer how designation numbers on mobile suits work
Was hoping for info on the thunderbolt vareiant but this was still informative
Thanks for the video
