  • I see a lot of comments and posts about Max Regen and wanted to take a stab at explaining things. Hope this helps. Sorry it got a little long.

    I like the (near) one-pedal driving that max regen enables in the 4xe, but I've stopped using it for two reasons:
    1) At low speeds, something about the Jeep gets clunky. I don't know if it's the transition from regen to friction braking, or if it's a clunky shift into first gear, but it doesn't happen with max regen off. (Anyone else notice this?)
    2) I figure with max regen off, I have more versatility in the way I drive. With max regen on, you're basically in one of two states: using energy to accelerate, or recapturing a small amount of energy while slowing down. But with max regen off, you have three states: using energy to accelerate, conserving energy while still moving forward (coasting), or recapturing a small amount of energy while explicitly braking (since you're still using regen braking when you depress the brake pedal even with max regen off).
    I adjusted to the near one-pedal driving very quickly, and I still really like it, but I also feel like keeping max regen off is more practical. Anyone have any thoughts on my reasoning?

    Great videos! Im wondering if e save with the (save) mode selected will charge the battery percentage? Or will it only charge when (charge) mode is selected? Not a big deal I just was wondering since the charge mode is the least efficient. My father and I just traded our 2005 grand Cherokee at the dealer and picked up a Willy’s 4xe and love it! We’ve had a bronco on order since 2021 but it looks like it will likely get deleted And a 2024 will have to be ordered. We really love the wranglers and I actually liked the hybrid idea more at the time we did the bronco reservation. Not to mention the bronco we ordered would likely get around 15 mpg possibly worse lol where we are. They’re getting around 17-20 mpg on flat streets (Sasquatch package). Once we test drove the wrangler 4xe we were hooked.

    I think the Jeep engineers nailed this thing….love the driving dynamics. We have lots of hills, in our area. Max regen is awesome. Feels like a manual trans that is always in the perfect downshift…super smooth. How about that auto transfer case? Talk about a feature that just does it’s job. Took on those snowy hills like a champ, (with the stock all seasons)! Nice video…can’t wait for the next one. 🤠

    Thank you so much for your channel . If going down a rather long sustained decline......if max regen was selected....would it make more sense to just throw it into neutral instead of keeping in drive? Thx again. Ja

    • @Wrangler4XEFans
      @Wrangler4XEFans  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The deceleration that comes from max regen is from the electric motor at the front of the transmission. So if you put it in neutral, it will disable max regen since the transmission is behind the motor.

    For example, with a 20mile total daily commute with some traffic some highway. Approximately how often would I have to charge this vehicle. Would regen help me enough to go a while

    • @Wrangler4XEFans
      @Wrangler4XEFans  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With a 20 mile daily commute, you would need to plug in every day.
      Max regen doesn’t really create any more energy. With the blended braking system in the 4XE, it creates about the same amount of energy when decelerating.

    Whatbibwouldnlikebto understand better is how P1 works and when, other than being a gas engine starter.

    • @Wrangler4XEFans
      @Wrangler4XEFans  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any time the gas engine is running, the P1 motor/generator serves two purposes. As a generator, it’s always capable of providing electrical energy to the high voltage battery since (like an alternator) it’s always spinning. But when demand is high, it can switch to being a motor to provide addition horse power to the front of the engine.
      In all of that, there is a really cool thing it does when the vehicle is in series mode. The first time the engine starts when in hybrid mode, you might notice that the RPMs are steady regardless of speed. This is at lower speeds, mind you. When the engine is staying steady at a set RPM, the vehicle is in series mode. The clutch between the gas engine and the front of the transmission is open. Propulsion is coming only from the P2 motor. It gives the engine time to warm up before closing that clutch and using the engine for propulsion. During that series mode operation, the P1 motor/generator is putting charge to the battery.
      The other nice thing about P1 is that if you are off road, any time that engine is running, you are adding a little charge to the battery. So there’s never a time when the vehicle won’t have full power. It’s always fully capable with the full horse power because it always has that little P1 in there making sure the battery is in the neighborhood of 15% state of charge.

    Can you tell when the brake lights turn on during the regen cycle? I wonder if it looks like you're riding the breaks to the car behind you.

      It’s actually a really good question and Jeep engineers did some really cool work on that very issue. They put some software to work to make it appear very human. It also doesn’t come on immediately on the highway.

    Is anyone else using the breaks ALOT less? As in only to come to complete stop and letting the regen do the "slowing down"? I ask because without the breaks, there are no break lights and I am waiting for the increase in rear end collisions? Real problem or just paranoid old man?

    • @Wrangler4XEFans
      @Wrangler4XEFans  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing cool about the 4XE is that it has a blended braking system. If you use max regen or not, when the brake is pushed down, the 4XE uses the P2 motor/generator for deceleration. Then in the last few feet of the stop, the system blends over to the friction brakes to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Using max regen or not doesn’t change this.
      As to the brake lights, they come on when max regen is used. The engineers did a great job of making the brake lights look like a human being braking when using max regen. They don’t just come on solid and stay there. They actually turn off and on to simulate how a human would brake. As well, at higher speeds, the brake lights don’t always pop on. Their operation varies by speed.
      So rear end collisions shouldn’t be any more or less of an issue than any other vehicle.
