What a contribution from Billy Preston on this song. I think his playing really gave this song its signature sound. His presence, as requested by George Harrison, definitely eased the tension during those recording sessions. I believe John and George wanted Billy to join the band but Paul was opposed and said “it’s bad enough with 4.” In a demo of this, after the last chorus, John yells “take it, Bill!” Billy would play on the solo records of John, George and Ringo. This is from the Wikipedia article: On 30 January 1969, the Beatles performed an unannounced concert from the rooftop of their Apple Corps headquarters at 3 Savile Row, within central London's office and fashion district. Joined by keyboardist Billy Preston, the band played a 42-minute set before the Metropolitan Police asked them to reduce the volume. It was the final public performance of their career. Love seeing you guys explore more of their songs and love your reactions!! You can’t go wrong with any of their songs. Thanks for making me smile!!!❤️
I was 3 in 1965 when my Dad got me to listen to them on the radio. My first popular music experience. Apparently, I was dancing and screeching with delight. Also, I didn't understand a word they were singing, as we lived in Uruguay, but it didn't matter. The music and energy was infectious
Yep.. literally as they broke up as a group... they climbed on top of the roof of their studio, 🍎 Apple Studio, and gave a blistering, soulful final Free concert for the people. When it was over, they opened the back door and signed autographs, passed out handfuls of records and memorabilia to the people. The Beatles. One of the Greatest Rock and Roll Bands that Ever Was. Was No More...
They were debating right up to the last minute whether they were going to do this show or not. Literally standing in the stairway up to the roof. It was finally John who said, "Let's just do it."
It was the HQ of their Apple label on Savile Row, so no studio but otherwise right on. There was also the Apple Boutique on Baker Street; both were in central London.

Without a doubt, the greatest RnR band ever. Only John can flub lines, and it still sounds right. It will never happen again. RIP John n George - still sadly missed.

This One's A Favorite,, But It Also Makes Me Sad Hearing It & Knowing That It Would Be Their Very Last Time Playing Together..R.I.P. George,, John & Billy🙏 ❤ Thanks For All You Gave Us.
I've heard them when I was 7 and didn't understand English, I'm 40 now and they are still my favourite band ever, bring me back to life every time I hear them when I'm sad or feeling exhausted. I think that's a true sign of really good music - when child loves it without understanding words and deep meanings.
Billy Preston’s keyboard playing is so perfect for these tracks. He was a legend in his own right, and gave so much to this session of songs he played on. Th4 documentary on Disney+ is a must for anyone who if fascinated by the band.
Thank You for this one! By far one of my favorites! Unfortunately this was the last time the Beatles ever performed together. They were truly one of the most influential bands... Ever!
Billy Preston on the keyboard is really the fifth Beatle (or sixth after George Martin). He brought so much heart and soul to the Let It Be recording sessions.
The Beatles were hammering out this song in the studio when Billy Preston dropped by and they asked him to sit in. As soon as he added his melodic keyboard, the entire song gelled around that.
The Beatles are THE BEATLES for a reason!! 💗 Have you checked out their solo work too? John Lennon "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" and McCartney with MJ "Say Say Say" and George Harrison "When We Was Fab" and Ringo's "Photograph" are some of my faves of theirs. Keep smiling!! 😎😎😎
And #9 Dream by Lennon. IMHO his very best solo song. Oddly enough, the woman singing in it is not Yoko but May Pang, Yoko's close friend that John had an affair with while he and Yoko were separated. Yoko knew and was okay with it. That's what I understand anyway.
@ mike kling “Photograph” is one of my absolute favorite songs. Imagine my surprise when I found the 45 mph in mint condition at my grandparents house when they passed. I still have it and I can’t believe it was just there, accidentally left behind.
George is still one of the most underappreciated guitarists of all time -- because he's playing some fabulously subtle things here, as always. There's an often overlooked reason he and Clapton were best friends -- mutual respect.
@JC SKI If the survey was amongst top guitarists, that makes sense. But non-guitarists rarely notice cool, subtle playing -- the stuff that makes a song without bringing attention to itself -- like much of George's playing.
@Mark Helms I learned to play slide guitar . I was talking to a guy at music store about great Guitarists . I asked “ You know who is one of the best slide Guitarists of all time “ of course he replied “ Duane Allman “ I said yes but another great one who is underrated is George Harrison . He agreed and told me that wasn’t the first time he heard that.
I've watched a few of your reaction videos about the Beatles and it's amusing that 30 seconds into each clip your pause the video and say that "this is my favorite Beatles song". I'm 70 and grew up listening to the Beatles at every opportunity and I just love their work. Some people today struggle to understand the impact they had (and are still having) but you had to be alive in the late 50s, early 60s to know the kind of music that was being played at that time. Yes, there were some rockers but you also had Sinatra, Como, Belafonte and others who were crooners. Suddenly The Beatles were there with their very different sound that captured the world. There will never be another band to influence music as much as The Beatles. Always was and always will be number 1.
The Beatles have an iconic sound where when you hear a song of theirs you can tell it is them; while at the same they never wrote the same song twice!!!
This song was recorded during the Get Back sessions at the end of the band's career and during some testing times in their relationship with each other. George brought their old mate Billy Preston in on keyboards and it really lifted them. His organ fills are superb.
This was January of 1969 and was their last public performance. They recorded their magnificent Abbey Road album later in the summer of 69. Some people, including me, think it was their best album.
This was one of my favorite Beatle songs. It was the flip side of “Get Back”, which was one of their biggest hits, hitting #1 on the Hot 100 billboard charts.
I bought the Get Back single in 1969 and discoverd Don't Let Me Down as I always played the B-sides first. To this day it still gives me goosebumps. Pure brilliance.
The Beatles forever changed music, the recording industry, radio, culture, and life as it was known before. What a beautiful way to end their collaboration. Each being a phenomenal artist in their own right.
The Beatles wanted to prove that they were still one of the best live bands in the world (after only making studio albums for years) and they made... This. The whole rooftop performance is 1000% worth watching. It's not perfect... But it's perfectly "human". Like John's voice.
The Beatles went through a bunch of different musical periods. Amber I think you’d love their psychedelic period. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Strawberry Fields Forever or With a Little Help from my Friends…
All of those mentioned so far, plus "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" and "A Day in the Life". Also from that era, although not so 'psychedelic', are "Penny Lane", "All You Need Is Love", "The Fool on the Hill", plus what John called 'granny music', "When I'm Sixty-Four" and "Your Mother Should Know".
They did that as a free roof top concert for the people in the streets of England. I am glad they filmed it. (There was a huge mob down on the street.)
She’s leaving home is one of the most poignant and beautiful songs (imho). The Beatles are a treasure-trove of beautiful songs. Eleanor rigby is another. Beautiful songs that will have you crying.
One of my favorites as well. My brother and I are both musicians and She's Leaving Home is one of our favorites to play when we get together because it's such an easy song and the harmonies sound so good.
Yes, “She’s Leaving Home” is so poignant, that it’s actually painful to hear. Seriously, your heart will hurt during and after you hear it. And I bet as soon as you finish it, you are going to have to listen to it again… immediately.
Billy Preston's keyboards are so integral to the vibe of this song. The Beatles first met him very early in their career, in Hamburg, and kept up a friendship through the 1960s. He happened to be in London during the Let It Be sessions and was invited to join them in the studio and his contribution became so important to those sessions, and to them getting their groove back after being somewhat disheartened at that point in their working and personal relationship. Truly one of the "fifth" Beatles (Brian Epstein, George Martin, Stu Sutcliffe, Pete Best....)
If you watch the last episode of the four part series Get Back, you'll see them play this awesome song live! You should check out Back In the USSR from the White Album. A straight rock powerhouse you both will appreciate
Bluesy yes. Billy Preston on keyboards. Were calling him the 5th Beatles at the time. - Was B-Side of single Get Back. I had a bit of a hard time getting into the song at the time must admit-was young-but grew on me in time till now love it madly.
Another song John dedicated to his deep love for Yoko was on his album "Double Fantasy"...his final recorded offering before he was gunned down by Mark Chapman. The song is entitled "Woman"...a beautiful piece....❤️

Billy Preston really adds to this song with his piano playing. Whats really awesome is this was all recorded live and shows what an amazing band they are
My favorite song from The Beatles. The session for this album started on the day I was born. The first song I ever remember hearing from The Beatles was I Wanna Hold Your Hand. That was my favorite at the time. As I grew up and discovered the rest of their catalog, my favorite changed. But when I saw the Let It Be documentary, this song just hit me with all the feels.

You guys have to watch the Peter Jackson documentary on the Beatles, "Get Back" that just came out last year. The footage on this last impromptu, unannounced concert on the roof with people gathering in the streets below is beautiful. Best band ever, no contest.
Nah. too early. It is mad long, and only die hard fans would appreciate it. Gotta work the new fans in slow.
I absolutely loved that documentary "Get Back"! I watched the whole thing in one day! 🤣
it wasn't that impromptued, they were recording back down to their studio in the basement & that took a lot of organising !
yup
watch The Winged Beatle docu...
They didn't know this was the last time they would perform as The Beatles...no ego, just 4 mates playing having fun. This little gift they gave us. Shout out to 5th Beatle Billy Preston. John Lennon forever!!
5th Beatle ???? I don't think so. George Martin would for anything maybe be considered the 5th Beatle. Beatle followers hated the term "fifth Beatle."
and talk about shitty yoko
In no way was Billy the 5th Beatle..of their several hundred songs he played on just a handful.
@@relevantbrother8964 "Fifth Beatle" claim originated in January 1969 when Harrison invited him to join them for recording sessions in order to defuse tensions in the band.
Some people may not accept Billy Preston as the 5th Beatle, but he was often referred to as the 5th Beatle.
Lennon’s voice is one in a million
Billon🎉
Zillion!
Such a great contrast with John and Paul.
Every time I see them perform and see two of them look at each other and smile it gets me. Those guys had such chemistry it’s mind blowing.
I have been a Beatles fanatic ever since I heard “I Saw Her Standing There” in 1963 (I was11 years old) It’s hard to understand unless you were there just how much they changed music and culture. Love seeing you guys explore more of their songs and love your reactions!! You can’t go wrong with any of their songs. Thanks for making me smile!!!❤️
Exactly. Fell in love with them at the age of 11 the same year. Definitely changed my life. 😀
My nan was lucky enough to of seen them i think the same year I saw her standing there is one of my favorites
I was 3 in 1965 when my Dad got me to listen to them on the radio. My first popular music experience. Apparently, I was dancing and screeching with delight. Also, I didn't understand a word they were singing, as we lived in Uruguay, but it didn't matter. The music and energy was infectious
@@eviekelpie1 i was born 2004 and my dad played different songs
@@eviekelpie1 to me as a kid only about a couple years ago I really started listening to their music and love them
The Beatles couldn’t just announce a concert without a frenzy. So pretty much anyone that heard this impromptu concert was very lucky indeed.
Yep.. literally as they broke up as a group... they climbed on top of the roof of their studio, 🍎 Apple Studio, and gave a blistering, soulful final Free concert for the people.
Not really. They still had Abbey Road to record.
It was the HQ of their Apple label on Savile Row, so no studio but otherwise right on. There was also the Apple Boutique on Baker Street; both were in central London.
@@mgonzales56 Ah, Abbey Road, a glorious medley of brilliant half-finished songs...
Part of the tragic beauty of that album is definitely that you can simultaneously hear they are done while there's still so much potential to go on...
It was pure class.
God! John's vocals in this song are absolutely amazing!!!
What I love about this song and video is how they loved performing live together. They were hanging by a thread at this point, but the love of performing shows through.
Without a doubt, the greatest RnR band ever. Only John can flub lines, and it still sounds right.
It will never happen again.
RIP John n George - still sadly missed.
Icons!
Also RIP Billy Preston on keys
And Paul lol
@@tonygvanpelt9902 😉
They did this song twice on the roof. The version here was not "flubbed",
The entire Rooftop Concert gives me goose bumps no matter how many times I see/hear it. Never fails.
I second that emotion...
@@karenscigliano9787 Yeah, timeless
Yes, Billy Preston's contribution to this song is really great! 👍👍👍
The Beatles could and did every style in music that’s why they’re the greatest! They opened the door for other bands
John Lennon even did the 1st dis song, with " how do you sleep "
I heard that this was the last video they made together, a free concert, on the roof top. I maybe wrong but heard that was the last time The Beatles ever played together. Such an awesome group! Love them!
I love the Beatles. They introduced me to music
💜
Some Beatle suggestions:
- Revolution (Single version)
- While My Guitar Gently Weeps
- Yesterday
- A Day in the Life
- I Am The Walrus
- Strawberry Fields
- Blackbird
- In My Life
This One's A Favorite,, But It Also Makes Me Sad Hearing It & Knowing That It Would Be Their Very Last Time Playing Together..R.I.P. George,, John & Billy🙏 ❤ Thanks For All You Gave Us.
same here.......
I agree. I felt that exact way when watching this part of the documentary.
As a bassist, this is arguably one of my favourite songs to play. Paul killed it as usual.
I’ve been a Beatles fan since about 5 years old . I’m 62 now and NEVER get tired of their music ! Keep up the good work ! 😃
Billy Preston rocked on that album
Billy Preston's keyboards, in Get Back are so perfect...so iconic...just flawless.😊
Thank You for this one! By far one of my favorites!
Unfortunately this was the last time the Beatles ever performed together. They were truly one of the most influential bands... Ever!
💜
The last time they performed live in front of an audience. They recorded another full album after this.
Billy Preston on the keyboard is really the fifth Beatle (or sixth after George Martin). He brought so much heart and soul to the Let It Be recording sessions.
You forgot Brian Epstein their Manager
@@genabourassa7962 Absolutely Brian. There are others too like Eric Clapton, but these are the main ones in my opinion.
Also forgetting the true fifth Beatle, Paul’s body double.
@@mst3ktemple421 and not Yoko ? ; )
The fifth Beatle was George Best :)
This was the end of an era. Literally. The Beatles weren’t together all that long in terms of years. But this, this was a moment.
Very well put it was literally gone after this.
The Beatles were hammering out this song in the studio when Billy Preston dropped by and they asked him to sit in. As soon as he added his melodic keyboard, the entire song gelled around that.
The Beatles changed the way people listened to music 🎶🎶. I've listened to them my whole life. They were all geniuses in their own right!!
Also "Rock n Roll" by Lennon
The video for When We Was Fab featured the 3 surviving Beatles it was Paul in the walrus costume playing his left handed Rickenbacker bass
@@dennytate26 That was actually Elton John in the walrus costume.
And George's girl!!
Also true... They were husbands-in-law,@@davidcochran6291 . 😎
I rate him quite highly!
I know what’s coming in each song, but watching your reaction of their genius sends chills down my spine.
It’s the Beatles and everyone else.
I get the same feeling
What makes the Beatles the best is how much passion they put into their music and performance.
The Beatles have an iconic sound where when you hear a song of theirs you can tell it is them; while at the same they never wrote the same song twice!!!
Billy Preston is killing it on the p
Keyboard.
Killing it!
the movie about the month leading up to this legendary roodtop performance is so unbelievably great.
Was there at the last gig in the street below 1969 aged 19.
Paul’s bass on this is incredible. One of the best bass players ever.
The way the song ended showed how incredibly tight the band was.
YES! That bass line!
Especially during the bridge!
Amazing.
You can see him smiling, jamming with Billy Preston (a virtuoso).
BS. he is NOT that good.
@@nonrepublicrat CLEARLY you are not a musician
With The Beatles expect the unexpected, always.
Amber, I've always loved John Lennon's voice, too. It comes right from the heart and soul and, like you said, it's no act.
Imagine going to work one day and hearing the Beatles on the roof. Amazing!! Thry played Get Back as well.
This song was recorded during the Get Back sessions at the end of the band's career and during some testing times in their relationship with each other. George brought their old mate Billy Preston in on keyboards and it really lifted them. His organ fills are superb.
Love this version. This was their last set and recording , as a group.
This was January of 1969 and was their last public performance. They recorded their magnificent Abbey Road album later in the summer of 69. Some people, including me, think it was their best album.
Wrong again, Johnny.
@@bobwoolerOriGinal yeah. On a roll. Lol. Meant to say, Last live set as a group. Thanks for your correction.
This was one of my favorite Beatle songs. It was the flip side of “Get Back”, which was one of their biggest hits, hitting #1 on the Hot 100 billboard charts.
this is one of my all time fave beatle songs! the version from the movie “across the universe” is amazing.
billy preston on keyboard. this was their last live performance together on rooftop of apple studio
I bought the Get Back single in 1969 and discoverd Don't Let Me Down as I always played the B-sides first. To this day it still gives me goosebumps. Pure brilliance.
Billy Preston amazing piano player and song writer. He joined them on quite a few songs.
The whole rooftop gig was superb & an amazing bow out from 4 legendary musicians.
Lennons genius is unparalleled.....Godlike
You guys have got to check out some of the other songs from that rooftop concert, especially I've Got a Feeling. You'll love it!
My favorite from that era is tomorrow never knows
I Am The Walrus! And Magical Mystery Tour....
You MUST watch their documentry on Disney+ they banged these songs out in DAYS!!!
Love that one too
Amber would love Eleanor Rigby. I have so many I would like to suggest, but not real sure where to send...email? Comments? Facebook?
Yes, “She’s Leaving Home” is so poignant, that it’s actually painful to hear. Seriously, your heart will hurt during and after you hear it. And I bet as soon as you finish it, you are going to have to listen to it again… immediately.
Yes, John Lennon wrote this beautiful song expressing his love of Yoko Ono.
❤️
Jay/Amber, I'd recommend "Penny Lane", "Let it Be" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand" next. Keep in mind I have 44 favorite Beatles songs. LOL
44 that’s all 😂
@@RobSquadReactions well out of 300 it's not many st all 😁
Billy Preston's keyboards are so integral to the vibe of this song.
Witnessing HISTORY. Their final public performance as The Beatles. How WONDERFUL AND SAD AT THE SAME TIME.
If you like "bluesy" Beatles song, listen to "Oh, Darlin'" from the Abbey Road Album
You got it thanks!
@@RobSquadReactions just do the whole of Abbey Road - it's their masterpiece! :)
You will also love Revolution 1 from the White Album too. Slowed down and bluesy.
Woo Hoo! Beatles again! Thank you so much! Made my day!

The song "A World Without Love" by Peter & Gordon was written by Paul McCartney and is a Beatles-type song that's well worth a reaction.
Also Peter Asher nearly became Paul's brother in law
If you watch the last episode of the four part series Get Back, you'll see them play this awesome song live!
You should check out Back In the USSR from the White Album. A straight rock powerhouse you both will appreciate
Bluesy yes. Billy Preston on keyboards. Were calling him the 5th Beatles at the time. - Was B-Side of single Get Back. I had a bit of a hard time getting into the song at the time must admit-was young-but grew on me in time till now love it madly.
RIP George and John. Legends
Great concert...my favorite Beatle song (and I was 8 when they hit America) was She's Leaving Home!
There will never be another group to compare with the Beatles. Icon is an understatement! 💖
Another song John dedicated to his deep love for Yoko was on his album "Double Fantasy"...his final recorded offering before he was gunned down by Mark Chapman. The song is entitled "Woman"...a beautiful piece....❤️
I still own my Rolling Stone magazine copy with John Lennon and Yoko Ono on the cover in their famous photo that was actually taken the same day he was murdered Dec 8, 1980

That day was one of disbelief for millions of fans. I recall watching the announcement of his death that evening & turning to my boyfriend & saying, "It's over, things will never be the same again." It was & they haven't been. It was like he had written in a verse of one of his songs..the dream is over...:(
I don’t think everyone likes Yoko Ono
@@claudiafranks2548 I'm sure you're right about that...but John loved her....all that counts is the mutual passion in that love that bonded their relationship...As it would for you or I concerning someone we loved....
Such a good sound. Glad you pointed out the keys, they really shined in this song. RIP Billy Preston, "the 5th Beatle."
I'm 65, can't believe how the time has flown and the Beatles have been a constant. My son grew up on a steady Beatles diet and has done his own deep dive into their music - all he keeps saying is he can't believe how fresh their music sounds - he's 28 now and we still rock out together on the Beatles - so blessed....
Love it! Lennon's voice is the best. If you haven't already, please react to The Beatles singing TWIST AND SHOUT live on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Electric.

I feel blessed to have grown up with this music. The best band ever.
I think best time to grow up ever, too. But, I'm a little biased!!
I've loved the Beatles for quite some time, they have some great songs.
You should check out John's sons music too. Julian Lennon "Valotte" and "Too Late for Goodbyes" are fun 80s songs. Sean Lennon is more edgy and kitschy. Sean's album Into the Sun is amazing!! Saw him play live in '98, he had his hair long and looked and sounded Just. Like. John!! It was awesome. 😎
I'm pretty sure this was their last live performance before they split....they were on the roof I think...
It was incredible!
Fantastic track nearing the end of their time together as a group. In the same session they did a track called - I got a feeling - which is another iconic track - give it a listen
Early influences were the blues. This takes me back so many years. Recorded in 1969 - I was 18, starting college.
