Cold rainy January day. They are looking back because the cops just showed up on the roof and Paul and John are smiling because that is what Paul was hoping for. Cops to drag them away. They didn't. They never had to watch Ringo, and I doubt they could see him most of the performance. Ringo followed them, he watches their shoulders and legs (especially McCartney) when they "dance" to the beat. No monitors, these are the guys that innovated innovation in music.
Keep in mind,. they also recorded their first album IN ONE DAY. Most of their early albums took not much more than a day to record 2-3 songs and they usually wrote songs for the album in weeks.

Hi. The Beatles did start their own record company, (Apple Records) but they didn't own their own recording studio as a band (I believe George had somewhat of a studio in his house, but it wasn't used to record the Beatles). They predominantly recorded at EMI recording studios (later named Abbey Road Studios), which is still in business, but they never owned that studio (although they were without a doubt, the premier act recording there). I subscribed. Peace
They Beatles had commissioned "Magic Alex" (Alexis Mardas) to create a "state of the art" studio at Apple, but it was useless and buggy, so they borrowed some equipment from EMI to record the GET BACK sessions, there. For Abbey Road, they, unsurprisingly, returned to Abbey Road (EMI) to record.

It always sounded great because of being the Beatles!!! The greatest band, sometimes not recognised as great musicians!!! But that is exactly what they are! and multi instrument talented, great, great voices in John, Paul and George and Ringo could sing to..and the ultimate in songwriting and innovative and fast evolution of their songwriting through their time and, world leading. Everything that anyone could do in Rock music was almost entirely done by them first! and followed on by all the rest. Singing live here, totally, with no technology, no monitor speakers, which I don't think they ever had throughout their touring years or on the roof here!!!! No studio trickery at all, purely live and masterful playing by all four, with a tightness within the band which very, very few bands had. Again they achieved this by their many years of live performance also prior to their fame with 8 hours per night live performing in the German clubs of Hamburg in 1960/61/62. They were supremely tight as a live band and instantly in sync in every way with each other musically, even at this late stage in their career.
Watching the film, " Get Back, " there is a point in the rooftop footage when one can sense they are, once again, THE BEATLES, and are enjoying playing live together. There is an energy during John's number that hearkens back to their Cavern days. George Harrison made a prescient remark, " The Beatles will exist without us. " Over fifty years later, that truth still holds.

Lennon's vocals and the harmonies are out of this world. Also when they released the singles with Billy Preston the ‘Get Back’ single was credited to “The Beatles with Billy Preston”, on the label as was its b-side, ‘Don’t Let Me Down’. It was unusual for a band to include a musician on the actual single label. also John Lennon was in favour of making Preston a full member of the Beatles. If you want to see how incredibly tight and great they were live you have to look at the earlier concerts. No fold-back speakers, no auto-tune and screaming fans like this footage from australia where they couldn't hear each other - just a brilliant tight band th-cam.com/video/Wv8DDpteHUc/w-d-xo.html and this from Blackpool th-cam.com/video/YtwFESbL68w/w-d-xo.html Ringo said because of the deafening screams, “I just had to just keep time. If I went to do a fill, it was like in silence, you know? So I would be watching Paul’s foot or John’s ass or, you know, ‘Where are we up to?’ … But you know, that’s how it ended up. Billy Preston also was a very long time standing friend of the Beatles all the way back to '61 & '62! When the Beatles were in Hamburg and Billy was in Little Richards backing band at the time, when he was 16yrs old!!! The Beatles not only big friends with Richard but totally clicked with Preston and they looked after him in Hamburg socially and musically admired Billy and, the relationship started there, before the Beatles were famous. In their days of doing mamoth length time shows in Hamburg where in, 1960/61 and early '62 the Beatles performed, live, for 7/8 hours a night!! In Liverpool around this time they would do 45/60/90 mins shows & 2 hour shows, but Hamburg took the "biscuit" and they did mamoth stints on stage for the demands of the German club managers. They had the biggest repetoire of songs, they played far more than anyone else that was performing with them in Hamburg and Liverpool, 1959, 1960, 1961 & 1962. They didn't have anymore equipment than Drum kit, guitars and amps and mics and sometimes, as here, a piano, nothing else, no "fold back" speakers or mixing desks or any "trickery" as used in today's business. They don't have any more than that in this performance on the roof in London! In January 1969! They didn't have more than this in their big famous Beatlemania touring years of 1963 to 1966 for crying out loud!!! Appreciate the pure and raw musicianship and pure talent these guys had, more than any other around in their times and since for that matter.
Hey PaulCollins7185 welcome to the channel, we really appreciate your comment thank you for taking the time to watch our video and for giving us your thoughts on it. Hope to see you take us to school on the next one :)
Yeah. Ringo actually talks about when they were playing in front of the screaming fans, he would watch John's movements from the back to know where they were in the song.
I have lived in Sweden all my life and I was about 9 when Beatles become famous. I think Sweden was much more (or earlirr) influenced by UK music compared to the US. And Beatles influenced so much in music and cultural life over all, during the 60s and continued, and still does! Elvis might have been the first big "star", but compared with the Beatles it was nothing. Also there was a generation gap in those days which seems to maybe have started with the jazz, growing with Elvis and had its peak through Beatles-FlowerPower-Rock-Metal-Punk and seems like more and more disappearing since the 90s. But while the rest of the "ynger generation music" kept slightly isolated to young people, Beatles was well known and influenced also cross the generation border. At least this was my personal impression.
This is the version of the song he messed up the lines. But the video is edited. You can see it when Paul and John smile at each other at the beginning of the 3rd verse. They smiled he got it right.
This is a compilation of the two "Don't let me down"-versions the Beatles played on the Rooftop. th-cam.com/video/qB183XkDq5Q/w-d-xo.html The clip with the mistake is currently on youtube. Lennon's short "Improvisation" comes at 2:05
Billy Preston is brilliant, this song would not have the same impact without him. They couldn't put him nearer to the band, as the roof was in danger of collapse. No auto-tune, no session players. Sheer talent, inspiration, and what my Country are experts in, just old fashioned "winging it"!!! One last thing, they all came from very very workingclass backgrounds. It may suprise you John, for all his "workingclass hero" image, came from quite a middle class background.

Recording on somebody's dime? EMI made sure they were paid back heftily for the studio cost with sale of each Beatles recording. The Beatles hardly made a dime, percentage wise on their records, it's a good thing they sold well because EMI got most of the money!
I'm not really a McCartney fan but John Lennon's song would not have been as good without him. Kudos for McCarntey. He worked harder with John's songs than his own. This song in particular shows how his voice contributed so much and complemented John's.
Many could argue this but man Beatles had the best harmonies. The Beatles are so iconic influenced so many huge bands. I. Cried when John Lennon was killed. He was the creative core of that band. Love ❤️ the Beatles
EJ here: Yes, they have the most incredible harmonies. Huge influence. I too cried when John Lennon died. I was young. like 9, but was very into the Beatles already due to my older brother's influences. Tragic. I wonder often what great songs and art he would have created if that never happened.
I was 15 when "The Beatles" hit the US. At first i preferred George, but then discovered John's writing, and I became a writer as result. I was devastated when he was murdered -- couldn't listen to "Beatles" records for at least 10 years without breaking down.
"The Beatles" had played together ON STAGE for YEARS in all sorts of situations. They even keep it together when they couldn't hear themselves because of the screaming. This song, by the way -- "She done me good" -- is about oral sex. See Lennon's lithographs (and bust for obscenity in London).

@@galaxyjams so much talent, and so hard to believe how many great albums came out. The breadth of their work and the fact that each album was so different from the last! RIP John and George, you are missed by all.
We will look into that. EJ has told us how instrumental of a producer he was and how gigantic his influence was on the Beatles. Sounds like an interesting read.
NOW, you need to react to "I'VE GOT A FEELING" from the same Apple Corp roof top concert. This is not the clip where he forgets the words, as you can see. WHERE are they constantly "looking at the drummer"?? MICHAEL JACKSON'S estate NO LONGER OWNS THE BEATLES' CATALOGUE. AS OF 2017 they BELONG to PAUL McCARTNEY because of the US copyright law of 1967 which restores rights to the original songwriters after 56 years,
Here's compiled list of all of the Beatles known recording sessions; most were at EMI/Abbey Road Studios. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles%27_recording_sessions
So let me get this straight you are watching what's considered the greatest band of all time playing one of the most famous live shows ever and the comment is "All I'm looking at is the equipment" I mean that's just horrible.
Imagine if there was as much resiliance in white homes toward black music as there seems to be towards 'white music' in black homes? every black guy reaction channel it's the same "we didn't have that in the house when I was growing up", the sad thing is that essentially the Beatles are a product of that very trade of heritage, they couldn't be who they were without that and showed it both musically and politically
Back in the day, lots of people seemed to stay "in their lane" when it came to some cultural differences. That has changed alot over the years for the better.

Great outlook on that Erik. Thank you for your insights. LOVE IT!
42 yrs ago we lost John to a maniac, Oh what could have been! John was about to explode again
Right? So Sad. Wonder what might have been. Brilliant songwriter, performer and human.
This was their very last performance together.
George Martin had been producing for twenty-five years when "The Beatles" first walked into the studio.
Billy Preston's playing really makes it.
this was their last public performace
This is the last time they played live together.
Unfortunately, right?
The song is for Yoko who’s sitting nearby.
Beatles had the Best amps!!
There were actually two versions of this played on the rooftop. Take 1, Lennon forgot the lyrics. This is Take 2.
Yes. Thank you. And that you for interacting with us! LOVE IT!
This is the version of the song he messed up the lines. But the video is edited. You can see it when Paul and John smile at each other at the beginning of the 3rd verse. They smiled he got it right.
Whew, EJ hadn't gone crazy. Thank you for letting us know.
Cool to know about Billy and John, thanks for sharing Wearmouth! If you haven't, please subscribe and hit that notification bell. We would love to hear from you more often! We have new content out all the time :)
@@galaxyjams Done, thanks for getting back to me. Not sure if you haven't already, but you might like to check out "While my guitar gently weeps". The version given at the memorial concert given for George after his death. Prince will blow your minds!
@@wearmouth3770 Thanks so much for the rec!
Recording on somebody's dime? EMI made sure they were paid back heftily for the studio cost with sale of each Beatles recording. The Beatles hardly made a dime, percentage wise on their records, it's a good thing they sold well because EMI got most of the money!

Other good reads: _Revolution in the Head_ by Ian MacDonald, and _Twilight of the Gods_ by Wilfred Mellers.
Very cool, we will check those out.
The fool on the hill
They're staring at the drummer sitting behind them ????
Love you Big J!
"The Beatles" broke up in April, 1970 but are still outselling everyone else including Elvis and "The Rolling Stones".
I was devastated when he was murdered -- couldn't listen to "Beatles" records for at least 10 years without breaking down.
as fantastic the paul and john harmonies are, i don't think they are the level of the bee gees harmonies
"The Beatles" had played together ON STAGE for YEARS in all sorts of situations. They even keep it together when they couldn't hear themselves because of the screaming.
This song, by the way -- "She done me good" -- is about oral sex. See Lennon's lithographs (and bust for obscenity in London).

they only got 1.5% of sales but did not pay for the studio time
They are not looking at Ringo. He is behind their backs.
Their final appearance as The Beatles. 😪
Such a shame isn't it? But what an appearance!

@@galaxyjams so much talent, and so hard to believe how many great albums came out. The breadth of their work and the fact that each album was so different from the last! RIP John and George, you are missed by all.
MUST read: George Martin's _All You Need is Ears_.
We will look into that. EJ has told us how instrumental of a producer he was and how gigantic his influence was on the Beatles. Sounds like an interesting read.
@@galaxyjams ESSENTIAL reading. If only longtime "Beatles" fans would read it.
May I suggest Hey Jude live
On the docket for sure.
They are not "just a band".
If you worked At the same job for11 years Would You not master It
NOW, you need to react to "I'VE GOT A FEELING" from the same Apple Corp roof top concert. This is not the clip where he forgets the words, as you can see. WHERE are they constantly "looking at the drummer"?? MICHAEL JACKSON'S estate NO LONGER OWNS THE BEATLES' CATALOGUE. AS OF 2017 they BELONG to PAUL McCARTNEY because of the US copyright law of 1967 which restores rights to the original songwriters after 56 years,
Great insights Patti! Thank you for that info!
The Beatles made so much money for the label that they had a studio to use all by themselves with George Martin producing.
Here's compiled list of all of the Beatles known recording sessions; most were at EMI/Abbey Road Studios. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles%27_recording_sessions
What on Earth are you talking about? They weren't even looking at Ringo on the drums?? Just making stuff up!
We love you so much! And thats not made up - it's a fact!
@@galaxyjamsThat's all good, but pay attention to what you're talking about.
Bowie took 25 years , the Beatles, 7
So let me get this straight you are watching what's considered the greatest band of all time playing one of the most famous live shows ever and the comment is "All I'm looking at is the equipment" I mean that's just horrible.
Tell me how you really feel, lover boy
They always watched the drummer because of all the screaming.
Hey welcome to the channel :)
George Harrison was having tensions.
Yes, he was not happy.
George Martin knew when to stay out of the way.
Loved
How you compared your self to John Lennon, don't do that again
And Mc cartney bought it back pennies on a dollar 💵 I have to
Imagine if there was as much resiliance in white homes toward black music as there seems to be towards 'white music' in black homes? every black guy reaction channel it's the same "we didn't have that in the house when I was growing up", the sad thing is that essentially the Beatles are a product of that very trade of heritage, they couldn't be who they were without that and showed it both musically and politically
Back in the day, lots of people seemed to stay "in their lane" when it came to some cultural differences. That has changed alot over the years for the better.
@@galaxyjams Agreed
"The Beatles" were not big in the Black neighborhood.
There is no band even close to the Beatles.
