It’s hilarious when John sings the lyrics “I guess nobody ever really done me, she done me good” and George can’t help himself and they all start giggling like idiots. That’s what makes them so relatable and lovable for me personally, aside from their music.
George is laughing because that clip is from the take where John flubbed the lyrics and just sings gibberish. The video is an edited composite of both performances that day.
I had to smile at your reaction to ' she really done me, she done me good '. I laugh every time I hear that line, as did Paul McCartney, grinning away.
RIP John. Such an incredible voice, songwriter, and artist. What a tragic loss so young. Get Back, I've Got a Feeling, and Dig a Pony (all from the roof top concert) are also great. The band was having issues at this time, and would break up in little more than a year. At the time they had no way of knowing this would be their last public performance together. Given all that, the joy they had just playing together like the early years is so apparent. They were able to put all the B.S. behind them, for a while at least.
They were on the roof of the Apple Records building. The people around were employees, neighbors, passers-by and police who had been called because of the noise.
The music of my youth. When the Beatles broke up, you would have thought the world was ending. My older sisters cried for days. The talent of 4 guys coming together to make so much great music, might come around once in a lifetime .
That's Billy Preston in back (the 5th Beatle) playing the Fender Rhodes Seventy Three organ, Paul on his '63 Hofner Bass, Ringo on the Ludwig Hollywood drum kit, John singing and playing his Epiphone Casino, George on his brand new Fender Rosewood Telecaster, and Yoko on her flat old arse. and I still have this vinyl LP album! 50+ years ago. (All the amplifiers are Fenders, too).
You can read all about this famous rooftop performance at the end of their time playing together on a freezing cold winter day in London. On Wikipedia. They may have stopped playing together, but here we are all these years later still watching them.
This was their last live performance. Get Back, from the same rooftop concert is a must listen as well. Billy Preston on keyboard was amazing. They were recording live for the Let It Be Album, so they did several takes of some of the songs. Let It Be was the next to last album they recorded (penultimate). They then recorded Abby Road but because of production nightmares, Let It Be was the last album released by them. The song, The End, on Abby Road was they last time they ever recorded with all four of them in the studio at the same time.
Steph, great reaction! Yes, that rooftop concert was the "grand finale" of the "Let it Be" film, from 1970, as well as the "Get Back" film/TV Series (on Disney +), from 2021. They had tried to arrange a more formal concert, once that would be filmed and a documentary released about that performance. However, the Let it Be sessions were extremely fraught, with lots of ups and downs, and they ran out of time and options for something more standard/officially produced. Therefore, they decided to have a short concert on the roof of the building within which they were recording the album and practicing (all the while filming for the documentary). It was great fun, although it was a cold January day in 1969, and the city Police were having to respond to noise complaints, as you saw. The film "Get Back" (directed by Peter Jackson) is very, very good. You really get pulled in by the genius not only of their musicianship but also of their friendship, their brotherhood -- through all the ups and downs. It is such a journey to go through! You should watch it and bond with The Beatles!
Note the moving notes beneath John's singing on George's guitar and Paul's bass being doubled. Called a "countermelody." Genius - it moves the song along better and gives variety to it. I think George was laughing at the camera man on his back trying to get a weird shot of George from below and Paul cracking up at the sight of it.
On 30 January 1969, the Beatles performed a concert from the rooftop of their Apple Corps headquarters at 3 Savile Row, in central London's office and fashion district. Joined by guest keyboardist Billy Preston, the band played a 42-minute set before the Metropolitan Police arrived and ordered them to reduce the volume.
It was just the way you think. They went up on the roof of their studio and played good and loud. People started to stop, looking up and the area got really crowded. Thats why you see those 2 cops standing there. They came up to try and stop the show and you can see how successful they were = ) (But I bet those two young cops were loving it, live Beatles right in front of them).
Loved this back in 1969, still do love the video also. Actually one of my favorite songs by them. To me it's a timeless song Twist and Shout is also very good especially John and Paul singing using the same mike. Revolution is also very good and Give Peace a Chance. Best of success with your channel
There is video of Paul, Linda, Ringo and their manager sitting around discussing the situation with Yoko injecting herself into everything John does and how disrupting it is to the creative energy, that sometimes Yoko is talking for John, he is just sitting quietly.
John was young when he married his first wife (Cynthia). When he met Yoko, John found his muse, his soul mate. Their love consumed him. Btw, there's a wonderful organ in this song, played by Billy Preston, the 'black' Beatle. Billy started playing with the Beatles near the end of their time together, adding keyboards to the mix. You get a couple peeks of Billy in the video.
Billy Preston’s contributions to this song and the entire sessions adds sooooo much.. it’s the special sauce! Without the keyboard in this track it’s a completely different song. They first met in 1961 when he was touring with Little Richard.. and it’s awesome they were able to reunite in this iconic film! Loved the reaction! I’d be very interested in your thoughts and reactions to Judee Sill’s performance of The Kiss from Old Grey Whistle Test.
This is the las time they all played together in front of a live audience. Its from the Let it be movie. this was on the roof of Apple recording studio. The people standing around worked for them or at the studio. they are not showing you the reactions of the people down on the street. that is very cool to see.
This was a nice tune off their last album and from the famous roof top concert they did above their studio. This is the greatest band ever, they influenced every rock band that followed their 1964 debut to the world. Try While My Guitar Gently Weeps, official audio original and enjoy. In time, if you keep hearing them, you will understand why everyone calls them the best. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎤🎸🎤🎹🎶🔥
This would be the last time the Beatles would perform live as a band. The original plan for GET BACK was to make a movie about them making a new album. Having quit playing live concerts three years earlier in 1966, the Beatles had made several albums and hit singles between 1966 and 1968 that required extensive overdubs of additional instruments and effects that would have been impossible to pull off live during the 1960s. For GET BACK (1969), the idea was for the Beatles to get back to their rock 'n roll roots and record new songs that could be performed live before an audience. The band initially planned to end the movie with a live concert and perhaps follow with a concert tour, but several members of the band opposed returning to touring (or even a one-off concert). The final compromise was to perform an unannounced show on the roof of their company's office building in London.
Yes, this was the last time they performed live in front of people, but this was not the end of their recording together. They got together again to record their final, and greatest album Abbey Road. You can see the entire performance in their documentary "Get Back", or a condensed version in their 1970 movie, "Let It Be". Millions and millions of people loved The Beatles, more than any other band. Thank you for listening to them, and I hope you continue to listen to their music.
Yeah, that is exactly what happened. They went up to the roof, set up and played a few songs. People heard them and before you know it there's a crowd out front. Stopped traffic and the police broke it up.
It was the last "live concert" of Beatles, offered to all the city from the roof of Abbey Road Studios. All employers were there and neighbourn called police for "noise"...
No, not Abbey Road Studios! It was on the roof of Apple Studios. 3 Savile Row, London, At the end Lennon said: "I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we've passed the audition."
You should ABSOLUTELY watch an early video from them! ANY "Ed Sullivan Show" Beatles vid will blow your mind at how different they looked and sounded, but ALSO how crazy the female fans went in the audience, LOL! It's such great fun to see!
You have the same birthday as me - mind you, there's probably about 60years between us! I feel very fortunate to have seen them play live in London back in the mid 1960s, and met them at music publishers Dick James Music, who set up a separate entity Northern Songs for Lennon/McCartney/Harrison. Paul used to live along the road from me in Maida Vale, West London. Greetings from the UK. I realise that I need to qualify the music publishing reference - I was a less than successful songwriter back in the 1960s.
@@keymack2477 Yes, 1969, months BEFORE they recorded _Abbey Road._ By January 1970 John had been no longer involved with group work for a few months, and the other three did their last studio work together at the beginning of the month, recording "I Me Mine" and a bit of other stuff.
The great Billy Preston on keys. John had a tragic childhood and was cruel to his Father, who was shunted out of his life by his irresponsible, adulterous wife, Julia. Johns' grandfather was a musician who played in minstrel shows in the US in the latter 1800s. Great reaction, back in the day we listened to the entire album on vinyl, on good stereo systems, much superior listening experience compared to today. Great reaction!
this was the finale to the get back film. they wanted to make a live album and was filmed rehearing songs for the album but they couldn't get along which u see on the film. as time went on they tried to decided where to have the concert. they talked about having it on a cruise ship and other places but decided to go up to the rooftop of their studio. they sang 5 songs I think. the album was let it be.
What you don't see is that electric piano ... which is played by a VERY FAMOUS Billy Preston, who WAY later found an excellent solo career of his own !!! Happy Birthday 🎂🎈🎉🎊🪅💃🥳!!!
They were play on roof of there o sound recording studio , and the footage has cut because the camera pans down to street and lots people standing and looking to roof listening to them play 🙏
The Jefferson Airplane played a rooftop concert in NYC 2 months before the Beatles. I guess they thought it was a good idea! Both bands were interrupted by the police!
John and Cynthia got married when they were both very young, and she got pregnant. In those days, that meant you automatically got married. Cynthia was hoping for a nice calm husband who would be sitting by the fire in the evening in his 'jumper" and smoking a pipe. John was not a homebody, and she had the unfortunate timing of meeting him right before the world would take him away. By 1966, the Beatles had over 140 legitimate paternity cases pending that they settled out of court. Most of those pregnant girls were barely 18. Yoko was exotic, strong, and demanding, the opposite of Cynthia who was the girl next door. All kids do dumb things, the Beatles were just under a microscope the whole time, exacerbating the whole process.
the 5th Beatle - the only person outside the Fab4 to get a credit on a recorded Beatles song. He euphemistically 'taught the band to play' when they first hooked up in '62 in Hamburg, so in essence, the inspiration for Sgt. Pepper to their 'salt'. John actually proposed he officially join - Paul objected citing that they can barely agree on anything with just four.
The people casually standing around were employees of the music studio where the Beatles worked (downstairs)...so they weren't strictly speaking an "audience"...which explains their nonchalant attitude.
This is a pretty deep Beatles track popularized by the recent movie. They had other songs that were much bigger hits in the ‘60s to 1970 and quite a few put to then new music video (we’d call it today). “Revolution” is a famous rocker filmed at the same time as “Hey Jude”, and I’ve seen “A Day in the Life” from their classic Sgt Peppers. “Hey Bulldog” is another rocker making the TH-cam circuit , then you can find their older stuff live. Their 1967 “All You Need is Love” simulcast (the first global television simulcast ever) may be out there somewhere l The video you reviewed here was from a one-off impromptu live concert, as the band stopped touring as a band in 1966 for various reasons, but kept making more studio-only music for a few years later until their breakup (about a year after this was originally filmed)
Of course I've paid my dues listening to the F4, still have a few albums somewhere. But this is the first time I've watched an MVid of theirs - so I didn't know Sir PM was actually a leftie. Learn something everyday - dint we'all? Also of interest, in last few days I've started re-reading Forsyth's, Odessa File. It starts as John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. The novel's protagonist describes how he saw the Beatles in Hamburg in the early 60's , made his money writing a feature on them. One of life's strange coincidences, they were in Germany 5 days before JFK was shot : Hamburg: They played several gigs at the Indra Club starting in August 1960, followed by performances at the Kaiserkeller and Star-Club until December 1962. 1963 Tour: The Beatles also performed in Germany on November 17, 1963, as part of their European tour, which included concerts in various cities. These performances in Hamburg were crucial to their development as a band before their rise to fame.
Yes, it was kind of a heartless lyric "I'm in love for the first time" considering at that time most all Beatle fans rejected Yoko and love John's first wife Cynthia.
Hi Steph, you really need to watch the entire rooftop performance, It brought the area to a standstill, and a part from the great songs, there is quite a lot of humor in the video........Please react to more of The Beatles music when possible.
Yes, the line, "I'm in love for the first time," has always struck me as unnecessarily cold. Even if he'd never been in love with Cynthia, there was still no reason to share that with the world.
Happy birthday beautiful sweetie it's still October 2cd right now and thanks 😍😋😉😎

In the part when George laughs, is because John on the first take, got wrong that verse, he forgot the lyrics and that caused hillarity on everyone, that time. And on the actual take, John makes sure to read the lyrics well (because there was a guy in front and below of him, who was layed on the floor with a big paper with the lyrics written on), then, all the group was expecting how was be done this time, but even he did it well, the memory, specially on George, lead them to laugh again.

Tremendous! MY birthday is on October 3rd. You are unique and special - you are a Libra.
Happy Birthday, angel !!!
Yoko is always a statue.
Any/every time that you fall in love
it's the first time.
RIP John and George
First heard this on a huge juke box and it sounded amazing. B side of Get Back.
HEY MY LOVE ....GREAT REACTION AS ALWAYS ❤
Happy Birthday, Steph! It is Oct. 7th, I am just watching this post today! I hope you had a Healthy, Happy Birthday! You are so Cute!
I've got a feeling, rooftop fantastic
John was singing to Yoko who was sitting nearby.
"Who are those people watching in the back?". Some of the luckiest MF's on the face of the Earth, that's who they are! LOL
The Roof of The Apple Studios in London.I Believe This Was Their Last ‘Live’ Performance.
The Beatles were sooooo good. I get high listening to them.
Happy birthday!!!!
It wasn't a noise issue. They were causing disruption of traffic.
The real travesty was the way John and Yoko treated his son Julian. Paul ended up being more of a father figure to him than his real father ever was.
More beatles pls helter Shelter (Paul). All You need is love (Jhon) i need You (George) yellow sumarine (Ringo) pls
The London Bobbies stopped the bloody roof top show. Their last live performance ended by the Polis.
I would love to see you react to The Beatles: hey bulldog
Billy Preston was on the keyboard, sadly the cameras didn't show him.
the 5th Beatle - the only person outside the Fab4 to get a credit on a recorded Beatles song. He euphemistically 'taught the band to play' when they first hooked up in '62 in Hamburg, so in essence, the inspiration for Sgt. Pepper to their 'salt'. John actually proposed he officially join - Paul objected citing that they can barely agree on anything with just four.
The camera did indeed show him, although it was pretty brief.
Their 1967 “All You Need is Love” simulcast (the first global television simulcast ever) may be out there somewhere l
The video you reviewed here was from a one-off impromptu live concert, as the band stopped touring as a band in 1966 for various reasons, but kept making more studio-only music for a few years later until their breakup (about a year after this was originally filmed)
You should try The Beatles song She's Leaving Home you'll love the deep feeling love
This was a second take; the reason george was laughing i believe was because john forgot the lyrics and just sung nonsence😂😂😂
Beatles Forever 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
Of course I've paid my dues listening to the F4, still have a few albums somewhere.
But this is the first time I've watched an MVid of theirs - so I didn't know Sir PM was actually a leftie. Learn something everyday - dint we'all?
Also of interest, in last few days I've started re-reading Forsyth's, Odessa File. It starts as John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. The novel's protagonist describes how he saw the Beatles in Hamburg in the early 60's , made his money writing a feature on them.
One of life's strange coincidences, they were in Germany 5 days before JFK was shot :
Hamburg: They played several gigs at the Indra Club starting in August 1960, followed by performances at the Kaiserkeller and Star-Club until December 1962.
Im oct 3 rd. Happy belated birthday 😊
Meeting your soul mate is a whole other ballgame. Like being in love for the first time. Almost... religious. Better.
Next you should listen to "I've Got a Feeling", (The Beatles). It's from the same rooftop concert as this song.
