  • Today I look at the new Forza Motorsport on my RX 6800X with and without AMD Fluid Motion Frame enabled. I compare the game side by side and than slow the 120 fps recording to 50% and even 25% to take a closer look at the image quality. It's actually quite impressive.

    FMF beta driver seems to have more of an issue in night scenes with lights/shadows and wipers. Deffo some motion/imaging issues even with HDR @VSYNC disabled as recommended in the driver notes. Still however it is great that we have it being worked on and hope artifacts as well as reductions in the lag are possible.

    I'm currently testing on my 6800XT. I tried Cyberpunk, Witcher 3 and A Plague Tale Requiem. For CP I can feel the latency and is not that responsive, and for a first person shooter it's a NO from me. In Witcher 3 with a controller I believe it is very usable as it gives cinematic smoothness that I very much like and while playing with a controller I don't feel the latency that much. The only thing I found while running in the Witcher 3 is that the grass around me feels blurrier and feels a bit more sluggish with the FMF ON. Same thing goes for Plague Tale. It can be useful in some situations, but I wish Anti Lag+ for the 6000 series as well, because the latency is a killer.
    Pros: - Impressive image quality (I did not notice many motion artifacts).
    - Gives the games a nice cinematic smoothness.
    - Can be used in ANY game.
    Cons: - Latency increase, everything feels less responsive.
    - Blurrier image in some situations.
    - Does not feel like a MUST HAVE feature if you have high enough base frame rate.
    - Turns off in fast motion.
    - For now it's very situational and feels kind of useless.
    - Does not seem to work with RTSS (I tried to cap the FPS).
    So, overall, we have a saying in Bulgaria "It has to eat a lot of bread to grow" 😃 . It is a nice technology, has a lot of potential, but we need some kind of latency reducer like Anti Lag+ on the 6000 series. I realize that it's a preview and it's BETA and I believe AMD can actually iron things out for the real release.

      I feel the same way. The fact it turns itself off isn't an issue in Forza since there are no sudden camera movements its more or less consistently paced gameplay. This is the best case scenario from the few games I've tried so far.

    What do you think of AMD Fluid Motion Frames in Forza Motorsport, or any other games for that matter? I think it works rather well here, a pretty good option to max your display's refresh rate. You can see at 7:32 the trees on the right are not as fluid as native. That sort of thing stands out the most but is also something on your peripheral vision when you're focused on your car.

      Just built a new system and its my first experience of it. Will be a trade off but a racing title you also want as little lag as possible from steering inputs. However FMF or FSR is going to be needed to meet demands of new monitors like Neo G9 for high res 32:9. Users then will have the choice to lock at 60FPS or perhaps maintain over 120 with Freesync?
      Its going to take more time to mature and for people to properly form what suits thier preferences.

    • @Odin3v
      @Odin3v 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have a 32:9 1440p 120hz and my 6800xt barely can push 60fps in Forza maxed out. Turning off ray tracing helps and FSR is useless in the game. It gives worse results just like starfield. So I am hoping FMF will help cause I can maintain 70-80 fps avg with no RT or FSR in new Forza. @@Mr_Latte_UK

      I'm assuming you're playing the Game Pass version? Apparently it doesn't work with that version from what I've heard because the driver software has to detect that you are playing the game to be able to toggle it on and it doesn't. For now anyway.

    Inaccurate analysis, I only play my games at 5% speed. Joking aside I think we can all pretty much agree that AMD did a great job in terms of image quality both in FG and AFMF. My only issue with AFMF so far is that the image is more ''juddery'' in most games I've tried which makes it feel less smooth on my end compared to playing with the native 70-80fps. Maybe it's because I'm on a 6k card though. In this game it looks wayyyy better it comes to that, almost unnoticeable in this video so I think I'd use it here. I'm also really happy with the latency overall with Anti-lag not working properly atm so job well done on that end as well. Nice work man 🤘

    • @TerraWare
      @TerraWare  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I know what you mean it does stand out in most games I've tested but here it's the best example imo. After editting the video I noticed it most at 7:32 on the trees on the right, it's like they are being rendered at lesser fps than the cars and the track but at normal speed and with the focus on driving you don't notice it. Very impressive indeed in Forza Motorsport. What GPU are you on anyway I forget. Is it 6800XT?

    • @constantinesoldatos
      @constantinesoldatos 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TerraWare Yes it's a 6800xt, I only play at 1440p uw so there's no need to upgrade it just yet but I think I will next gen if the tech is cool enough to get me excited which I think it will be on both sides.
      Maybe intel will surprise us as well with Battlemage but I don't feel too comfortable going that route just yet, Arc drivers were terrible and hardware build quality.. questionable (seriously, glue???) and I like to take my gpus apart and service them properly.
      I noticed the trees there as well. But yea in most games even though the motion is fluid and latency great I still feel like the motion is also ''heavier'' like I'm pulling the weight of the image itself with my mouse or stick, but again it's not input lag, the image responds instantly to my inputs but feels ''heavy''. I think it's what you said, as if the frames are rendered at a lower fps.
      Aaaanyways, really excited to see how this tech evolves.

      I've been thinking of servicing my Strix 6800XT because I've had it for 3 years now but at the same time the temperatures on it are great. I also recall trying to find out thickness of pads and couldn't. This model is kind of rare, especially the 6800XT, they made more of the 6900XT's

    • @constantinesoldatos
      @constantinesoldatos 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TerraWare I wouldn't worry too much about pads unless they get ripped or the factory ones are so bad that VRM temps shoot at 80c+. Also it's water cooled and I've seen your temps, 50-55c is extremely good when you have an OC of 2700mhz.
      Mine is air cooled Tuf version and even though I'm using LM I can't clock it over 2600 mhz without my temps going at 75c if I clock at 2700 (running an undervolt of -160mv btw so temps would be even higher without it) which is still great but I have this pet peeve of keeping everything under 70c and I also live in a warm country and electricity prices are crazy here in the EU which means I can't run the AC all day so I give extra thought to that.
      So yea, I wouldn't worry about your card one bit, seems to be in excellent condition. Also gpus seem to get more efficient and cooler with each gen unlike CPU's which is normal to have them sitting at 80-90c max load nowdays (imagine their face after telling that to someone 3 years ago 😂😂)

      @TerraWare  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@constantinesoldatos Speaking of the TUF, I've been so very impressed with my TUF 4090 from a cooling perspective. The cooler on this thing is insane, not only does it maintain 65C no problem but the delta between edge and hot spot is between 7 to 12C. That's insane for an air cooled card.
      Believe it or not I set out to get a Strix 4090 back in October of 2022 but Micro Center didn't have any so I went with the TUF and this thing's a unit. All metal, except for the fans of course lol.

    Even at 25% speed, it is very difficult to spot anything odd. When you frame step through it, you can clearly see what a "generated" frame looks like. Similar to a "motion blur" effect, the generated frame is a little fuzzy/smeared in a few details - like a lamp post passing by.

At the moment its locked to 30fps to give me the best look ext as it would gets around 40fps. Im going to give it a try locking it at 30 and use this feature see if it gets 60fps. I use 60fps on the 3080 gpu i hage for it though. I will also teg thos wirh starfield and Alan wake too see what it gives me in 25w mode when playing on the go rather than docked.
