I still stand by the opinion that Valestein Castle is my favorite Ys ost, but Ys VIII might have the best ost of the series, and dare I say, of Falcom games in general
Garuda from SMT Devil Survivor, Fierce Battle (One More God Rejected) from SMT III Nocturne, and Decesive / Fiend Battle from SMT Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha versus King Abaddon should be on list.
Say what you wish about Legend of Mana, but dang its OST was plain awesome even the non-metal stuff. Heck, the ending credits theme is called "Song of Mana" which is fitting, because the Swedish Lyrics and the very talented Swedish woman who sings it make it sound absolutely magical.
Mana games always have a great OST, but yeah legend probably is the most underrated of the bunch. It has weird little touches that add to it too. Like at the start of the music for the Geo town where you hear ambient children playing in the background or something. it's a really weird but nice touch. I kinda wish more games did that sort of thing.
@@Ghalion666 They mainly did that for the loading/intro cutscenes, like when you first walk into a zone, you saw that little bouncing rabite icon that was the game's loading screen and they timed it almost perfectly so that the full music cut in about the same time the screen transitioned, it was a very neat effect.
@@toryficarola I actually didn't like the game very much the first time. I was disappointed, especially since it was a Mana game. But I grew to like it later. I'm not an 'acquired taste' kind of guy, but that game was in fact my life-long best example, for me personally, as an acquired taste. So if you only played it once and were like 'meh', maybe you will enjoy it much more the 2nd time around =). For what it's worth, the world element mechanics, and the weapon forging mechanics are far far less confusing now than they were back in the day...They're still pretty head-scratch material, but at least other people have figured them out enough that you can just ignore the rules and follow their directions to get the job done. I remember the good (not good) old days where crafting a good weapon needed like 20-ish of those super rare large crystals, and like 12 of those reset cleaner things you got as a rare drop from a rare mob (a mimic I think?) on some pirate ship stage.. ugh.
This whole list could have been just the Ys series, lol. When I saw the title, my mind immediately thought of "Mechanical Rhythm" from Xenoblade Chronicles.
I hadn't played Berseria in so long, I forgot about Daemon's Assault. :D Kick ass. Love it when that rock aspect makes its way into a soundtrack of his.
There's a lot of good metal in jrpgs. I'd add the Bravely Default battle themes (Marty Friedman plays guitar on them), the whole Bravely Default soundtrack is like a prog concept album and there's a wonderful live convert that's on youtube. A lot of Motoi Sakuraba's work that isn't on the Tales franchise would also qualify for this, a particular favorite of mine is the Doom Dragon battle theme from Golden Sun TLA.
Persona 4 "Fog" and "the Almighty" SMT 4A Polytheistic Alliance SMT Nocturne Last overmap theme Devil Surivior 2 Battle theme of Septemrions All er top tracks they are missing here
I need more metal and heavy metal tracks in my jrpgs! Good music in general is a good way to help me stay into a good jrpg also when the art style and voices are good
Hello Mr. Landon, I highly suggest you try the recently finished (2021) fan translated version of Suikoden woven web of the centuries by Twisted Phoenix . Suikoden Woven web or SWW is a true hidden gem that never made it outside japan. The story is refreshing and 6 character battle system is back! make sure to look up subclass here, its kinda a miss opportunity as it seems to be a hidden feature that I finished the game without xD i wished I knew sooner as it would have changed my party choices. If I have to rank my fav suikoden game in order Suikoden 2 > Suikoden 5 > Suikoden Woven Web > Suikoden 3 > Suikoden 4 + Tactics > Suikoden Tierkreis > Suikoden 1
Erick, have you gone down the Rabbit hole that is metal Touhou Remix music? One band Demetori has its tracks made by the lead guitarist for Falcom band JDK and his brother as the drummer, here's one track from em: th-cam.com/video/wZdbMmybLdY/w-d-xo.html They aren't the only good Touhou metal band though, there a re dozens.
Maybe this is the wrong or the right place to look for a game but...can anyone help me find this game?? I can only remember that it had a really cool and dark boss music and it was a Turn based combat JRPG. I saw a gameplay video on youtube but now its gone. the only thing I can remember from the boss music is that it had a Japanese Singer and there is a part that goes "all humans must die" or "All humanity must die" repeating several times....
No Rammstein from FFX is a major oversight, my dude! Seems like you go out of your way to avoid a lot of FF stuff in general tho, as if you possibly might worry about appearing too mainstream, lol! Just a thought! Still, some great stuff here as is!
Having Smt on the cover of the video makes sense !
Totally it makes sense!

-no otherworld from FFX?
-blown away from the Ys 8 one, might look for more
-much love for SMT:Nocturne soundtracks, grew up with them
Ys and Atelier series are goldmines.
I'm always under the impression that he hates FF games past 6, so I wouldn't expect that type of stuff here.
I still stand by the opinion that Valestein Castle is my favorite Ys ost, but Ys VIII might have the best ost of the series, and dare I say, of Falcom games in general
Although I have played all games on this list, I can say for certain that Ys and SMT have absolutely badass soundtracks
Garuda from SMT Devil Survivor, Fierce Battle (One More God Rejected) from SMT III Nocturne, and Decesive / Fiend Battle from SMT Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha versus King Abaddon should be on list.
Wonderful! Just went from "Opera singer sings OST from JRPGs" to this! :-P JRPGs truly are the most diverse when it comes to music... ;-)
Like preventivo!

The Final Fantasy and the MegaTen series always have an awesome soundtrack
"Battle for Survival" is my absolute favorite

Quest Boss Battle from Persona 2 Innocent Sin totally slams!! PERSONA-KANDA FOREVER!

This is a great compilation. This is keeping me going at work. Thanks Erick!
dude, put timestamps
I miss the boss battle theme of Blue Dragon. It even has Ian Gillan from Deep Purple singing in it and you heard it quite a lot of times :)
Don't know why but I did not expect to see Legend of Mana at the end. What a pleasant surprise!
Putting legend of mana ost in front. I'm sold.
Persona 4 "Fog" and "the Almighty"
SMT 4A Polytheistic Alliance
SMT Nocturne Last overmap theme
Devil Surivior 2 Battle theme of Septemrions
All er top tracks

Haven’t progressed far into the Atelier series yet, surprised to see it included here…surprised but indeed impressed!
That first persona 2 song kicks ass
You could literally populate this whole list with Y's games🤘
I need more metal and heavy metal tracks in my jrpgs! Good music in general is a good way to help me stay into a good jrpg also when the art style and voices are good
What no Eternity from Blue Dragon lol
Some tracks are really awsome. Thanks a lot for sharing them!
Great mix. If you do another one, I definitely recommend the metal song Anthem composed for Falcom's Xanadu.
Digital Devil Saga 2, Devil Survivor, SMT 4 & 5....FUCK YEAH!!
I think this is the video I didn't know I was waiting for.
Nice, Not too loud and seem good for an hour. Have a nice day! * sleep
SMASH UP YS 8
