44:46 Oh man I can't believe how much I love the Dali Town Theme from Final Fantasy 9. Brings back memories of childhood and actually feeling safe and cosy as a kid when I played through this section. Beautiful art and storyline in this town too.

The number 30 ("Kids run through the streets") is probably my favorite town theme of all time. Beyond nostalgia, it fills me with a feeling of peace that I cannot express in words. The second is probably "peaceful days" (number 14), for a similar reason. I used to have it as an alarm, and it helped me wake up in a good mood every morning.

Wow, Ar Tonelico! That's one I've always loved and will never forget, along with so many other tunes from that soundtrack.
So glad to see Suikoden II's Lakewest theme. Such a beautiful, peaceful piece of music.
Hearing Little Love from Rhapsody kind of makes me want to play the game again. It's such an easy RPG, but it makes up for it with charm.
The pancake attack was the best thing in the game.
This is a great list but there are so many amazing jrpg town themes that 50 isn't enough. Colony 9 from Xenoblade Chronicles, Grand Chokmah theme from Tales of the Abyss, Luca from FFX, Rabanastre from FFXII, all of the Bravely Default town themes, to name but a few.

#42 is from Phantasy Star 3, not Phantasy Star 2.
Also, not a single town theme from Trails, Lunar, or Grandia. :(
I made a similar list of my from awhile back and I also have Chrono Cross music. Some of my other favorite town themes are from:
Super Mario RPG - Marrymore; Illusion of Gaia - Freejia; Terranigma - Town; Terranigma - Crysta; Final Fantasy Mystic Quest: saved Town; 7th Saga
Wild Arms - Marsh Where the Migrant Birds Gather (Milama Village); Wild Arms - Village of Eru; Wild Arms Town; Lunar 2 - Village Street
This is an excellent video compilation! As a note, #42 is the town theme from Phantasy Star 3, not two. But it is a nice track nonetheless.
One I recommend, is Wakeport from Mario & Luigi Dream Team, I have loved it for years now, the dream world version is also super nice and relaxing
A good town should be one you enjoy exploring
Kingdom hearts twilight town is a fun one as it grows in narrative as you continue the story.
Tales of xillia 1 and 2 I really enjoyed this one area of Xi'an du where it's a mess when you first get there but on replays it's fun to explore.
Tales of the abyss the main kingdom you start in like xillia is a mess at first but slowly you get to know it on replays everything is easy to find got you.
Tales of Graces litteraly every town is fun to walk around in being overhead view.
God of war 4 had a better system to let you return to old areas and the place near your house is fun to see hold more secrets.
Genshin impact all the towns are fun considering you can glide everywhere
Ff 7 remake the whole game is basically one big town to Explore and get to know the details and people.
Village of the Dog God is such a relaxing yet emotional track. Twilight Town is another great track from Covenant.

Bit of a stretch perhaps, but i remember listening to celtic folk singing in the town in The Bards Tale 4, it only came from a few spots but it was utterly beguiling.
Musics like these are what makes 90s RPGs so charming.
All of Lost Odyssey's town themes are fantastic, I like Numara's the best.
Another Guldove its awsome, all chrono Cross OST in fact.
Dragon knights den from from Suikoden 1 is such an amazing tune. Think its just called Old Irish Song on the soundtrack lol

Suikoden soundtracks are on another level only 5 main games and so much representation
Glad to see Phantasy Star II and IV are on here. I love my classic Genesis games. Obviously, you must enjoy bagpipes: 2 of the top 3 had them. I like the fact you listed the singers, they're just as important as the composer. I just thought of another list: top opening cinemas

42 is PS3, not sure that was ever in PS2 but I could be wrong!

Ok, so I shall preface this comment by saying I have not played many jrpgs at all.
After having listened my way through these tracks, there some that I have really enjoyed and some I dislike. As always it's personal opinion so, no judgements there. From my experiences though I think I would place Cosmo Canyon, from FF7, in this list. It's one that I recognise instantly and I find myself humming the tune when I'm out and about too.
And I agree with another commenter below with regards to Traverse Town from Kingdom Hearts. Another track I enjoy immensely and instantly recognise.
Hmm not having a single ff6 track on here, when ff6 had multiple great town themes that are much better than some of the generic orchestrated stuff on this playlist…
The Jidoor / Owzer theme alone should be in the top 10 alongside the Zeal theme

i did the same kind of video, more than one year ago, i don't even have 200 views :'( funny thing putting my village is number 1 in number 50 ... I put it on 100 ^^ . you could have put the creid version of it, rearranged by Mitsuda himself. Will listen to your selection, i don't know some of those.

These are great songs. But not having the original Final Fantasy town theme on the list...is like doing a top 50 metal bands of all time and not include Black Sabbath. That game inspired so many others.
Not to mention that when we are inevitably in the path of a solar flare that effectively functions as a worldwide EMP, we're going to lose 99.99% of our digital storage.
So unless your music is shielded against electromagnetic blasts or on analog technology, it's going to go poof.
of course we all know the best town theme was Final Fantasy V

The Town theme from Phantasy Star II is wrong, it's actuallt the town theme from Phantasy Star III. Get it right!

It is hard to take this list seriously when there's not a single track from FF8, Golden Sun or FF10. And the highest rated tracks on this list is just a series of drum loops. In FF8 fisherman's horizon, in FF10 Sights of Spira, in Golden Sun Vale or the snow covered city. And in front, in between and behind them you could put a lot of other tracks from the Final Fantasy series. None of which (Except border town dali) is present in this list.
Fisherman's Horizon is the only reason I clicked here. Oh well 🚮
