AMEN! It makes me sad to think that there are so many boys out there that do not even know where the engine on a vehicle is, let alone know how to work on one. This is what Father's are for!
I am 80 years old, retired. I made my living fixing things. Motor cycles, old cars, stationary engines mainly ,BUT whatever needed fixing. Left school, small village school, at 15, no sort of qualifications other than 10 years basic schooling. Fixed things for other folks, bought and fixed all sorts and sold them on. But my Dad had me help and work with him from the moment I could pass him whatever he needed, I learned enough to make my living rest of my life. Have to admit at the end of my working days the ever increasing amount of electronics and other fancy bits did get too much for me, eventually I gave it best. But it really pleased me to see a Father have his son working with him, slowly passing on a lifetime of knowledge in a practical way.
@@BRI33NOR Absolutely! The thing I like is that vehicle is a worker! That truck is a work horse. People today are so interested in what a car looks like they do not put as much consideration into what they vehicle can do for YOU. That truck will do things for you, besides get you there and back. I love those old pickups, the parts won't bankrupt you because they are common. Today with everything run by sensors and master computers, the parts can break you. All those parts come from China and they are all junk. I saw a guy working on an engine and he put brand new points in and they failed. Brand new. They were so weak that they failed, and he had to go through 3 sets before he found ones that were any good. That's sad.
The way you treat Bentley while not even realizing it is super heartwarming. You’re definitely doing it right and also teaching the boys valuable lessons in a hard day’s work and integrity. The fact that he jumps right in without any prodding is awesome. Good on ya Derek!!
A friend of mine has 2 boys, well adults now but when they were much younger anytime he had them doing anything with him, it was a constant yelling at them, never really doing much with them, and when he did all that he did was yell at them continuously, and now he wonders why they're never around.

@@rpmevo8 It got to the point where they spent more time with me than they did at their own house LOL. I didn't mind it, they loved learning and helping out. One is a mechanic/welder, the other joined the Army National Guard and works at an assisted living facility...he is the one that goes around giving the patients their prescriptions throughout the day, also works in the kitchen and other areas as needed. All things considered they turned out pretty well.

I'm not into building cars, I don't own a fancy car, I don't collect, I don't repair, I don't even drive anymore. Somehow I can't get enough of this channels content. Your dry humor combined with your knowledge of cars and their functions makes me love your videos!
It really is heartwarming to see a feller raring up his little humans the right way, keeping their little minds and hands busy while learning so, so many things. Those boys will love you even more as they become men and realize just how great their childhoods were because of the sacrifices of two great parents. God bless you and your’s Derek.

From 2019 to recently, I was an aircraft maintenance contractor in Iraq (Baghdad and Balad) and after a 12 hr shift in the blazing heat (140F) I so looked forward to jumping on TH-cam in my tiny air conditioned room to watch the latest episode you posted. I've been watching you pretty much since day one and have shared your channel with all my friends. I realize that as your fame has exploded, you've been taxed more and more to show up at bigger and bigger shows. I hope your success continues as I'm sure it will, but please don't forget that all of us love those great personal revivals that had been your original trademark. That you include your kids occasionally in the vids is fantastic, Derek - it seems such an obvious thing to do, but that your kids aren't anchored to some chair with a bent neck staring down at an iPhone is great. The simplest of gestures and the words of encouragement you always give them will make a giant difference in the men they are becoming. Watching Bentley drive that truck had tears just flowing down my cheeks. My dad died in 2004 but when I was 11 he taught me to drive his '67 F100 Ranger. Me and my little brother always sat in the middle and he let me steer. The pedals were so far away, the steering wheel was HUGE. It was a three speed column shift and even today - I will never forget that feeling. Damn - sometimes memories are all you have..
My Jaw DROPPED when I saw the thumbnail... My FIRST truck when I was 16 in High School back in 1983 was this EXACT Truck.. Identical Color Combination... Mechanical Differences being mine was a 1976 C20 Camper Special with 350 Eng and Turbo 400 Trans.... I've always been a FORD Guy but in high school I needed a ride and money was tight so this is what I got, she served me well indeed... Thank You for bringing back some great memories.. Jonathan
So good to see a father-son duo like this. That kid probably knows how to build a car from the ground up, thanks to his dad. So many guys under a certain age nowadays don't even know how to put water in the radiator. Way to go Derrick!

It truly warms my heart to see u including ur boys in the shop. My son helped me restore a 83 blazer. I wouldn't have gotten it done without him. Now he's 17 and making money slangin wrenches. Remember folks. .. our children are our future. Just let them learn.
Last year I bought a truck just like that from my best friend. Bought her because she looks exactly like the one my grandfather had. Got the carb unstuck, put a battery and some wheels on her. Drove her home
I've got to say, you are lucky to have such a great helper in Bentley. One can only wish they'd be so fortunate to have a kid that's willing and interested enough to help their Dad as much as Bentley is for you.Makes for a great team and that's no exaggeration. You're definitely doing something right Derek, and it's great that you have the patience that is lacking in most parents today. The best thing about HEI modules is that they are a perfect litmus test part if you move to a new town. Go to one of your new local parts stores, ask for one for a 78 Malibu. If they get you one without asking for a VIN or saying they don't have any for that model, score one point. If they warn you not to forget to put the grease on, score two more points. If they think a 78 Malibu is interesting and ask you about it, score three more on top. If you walk out with a score of two or less, try the next store...
Derek, this here unit is a perfect candidate for a full restoration. She's a beauty, my dad bought this same color as this truck brand new in 1978. He also bought a new fifth wheel holiday trailer the following year to go with this perty truck, cause he just loved that big block 454 under the hood. He could pass everything on the highway except a petro station ⛽. He sold it to a family friend in 1990 and bought himself a Dodge 3/4 ton with a Cummins in it. I own the Cummins now since my dad passed, it is still to this day in mint condition. The friend still uses it to pull his trailer and keeps it stored over the winter up here in Canada. Derek, I think she's worth bringing back to life. I love those old trucks as well. I have a few oldies myself.
The front fenders had the factory tie down mounts for the camper (3 hole plates) ...saw one on the passenger side seat, and the rest of the camper mounts were on the floor! That factory camper special stuff is worth all the money! Definitely a tough old roundeye!
"It's alive'" Chevrolet big-block * * * This brings back memories of my 1977 Chevrolet Camper Special with 454 under the hood, what a great engine and truck I found locally for $ 700 in running & driving condition back in 2000, a small tune-up + oil-change and BANG, ran like a champ. Had it as a daily driver for 5 years, great hauling heavy stuff with, dependable pickup. Can't beat a good old Chevrolet Derek, looking forward to your adventure across US, don't forget bring enough gas-money and cold-snacks ! Cheers from Texas * * *🤠

Bentley & Bros are so blessed. My dad was wonderful, don't get me wrong, and smart as a whip, but the poor fella' barely knew how to operate a screwdriver. And his firstborn, _moi,_ was a baby gearhead and future mechanical engineer. He gave me moral support in my toolish endeavors, but I had to buy my own tools and teach myself *_EVERYTHING!_* (Praise the Lord for _Motor's_ and _Chilton's_ manuals!) Having a dad like Derek, his tools, his example, and his mentoring are the stuff of dreams for kids who are so inclined.
I really get the feels seeing how you get your boys involved in some of your projects. Reminds me of when my late Dad had me work with him on demo and carpentry projects when I was little. Those are going to be the important memories someday.

I can't tell ya how many hotrods I diagnosed with vapor lock because of metal fuel lines against the block and heads on power tour this year. DEI helped a lot of folks out on the tour. Great people!
I had vapor lock issue on a couple of my own prior trucks. I had found installing a return system helps alot in keeping warm fuel going back to the tank and cool fuel coming up to the carb.
I'm going through some rough times physically and emotionally. Your content helps me greatly. I grew up with folks like you and it seems like I'm hanging out with old friends.
With all the BS going on in this country rn and the amount of people who have been lost in the matrix, it’s these types of videos that still gives me hope for the future. Has anyone said the vacuum modulator may be bad yet? Would make trans fluid disappear and cause engine smoking which may have made previous owner think rings were gone, and trans fluid in the engine would so explain the lack of rust after sitting so many years

Hands down the cleanest unrestored square body I’ve ever seen. I’d say my late grandpa was the original owner if I didn’t know better. He was meticulous and thorough to the furthest degree. Very cool pickup.
I've got my great grandfathers 1976 square body that was passed down several years ago. Zero rust. Zero dents. 86k original miles. Currently sits in my parents shop and hasn't been driven in a few years.
@@TravelingStacker Nothing ruins a vehicle faster (other than crashing, I suppose), than just sitting. Not saying to daily the thing (especially with the ol' thirst for firejuice), but every once in a while, take 'er to town, take the long way back.
My dad used to let me help and drive stuff as a kid, makes a special bond for life and your kids will have life long memories and skills! awesome to see.

I love this channel so much and believe my father would have loved it, too. Watching Derek and Bentley work together reminds me so much of growing up with my mechanic father. We pulled old cars, trucks, and more out of barns, fields, and so on over the years. This channel feels like a time machine for me to remember and celebrate the memory of my father and our time together. Thank you, Derek & Bentley, for reminding me of those days and for putting a smile on my face every single episode.

I really enjoy watching Father and Son working together, that being said I want to speak on oil filters,,,I have ran mostly Frams all my life 69 years and have never had an engine failure due to oil contamination,,and I ran some over 300,000 miles...Now I know that the Wix is by far superior built filters and the price reflex that .....Thanks for the down to earth family videos and God Bless.
Seeing you working on this truck brought back so many memories of me and my friends working on my 77 C10. My first truck and my God do I miss it so much. Biggest regret I have was selling it for a little extra cash when I was in college. I hope I can afford to buy one again one of these days. Loved the video!

I LIKE the wheels that were on this truck like others have said they do as well. I was glad to see you give 'em a little elbow grease and love to bring them and the center caps back around and then run 'em. Being as they are nice, vintage-look wheels with new tires mounted on them, maybe replace any of the rusted/pitted lug nuts for looks, or all of 'em. Love the truck, it does have a lot of cool add-ons and accessories. Can't wait to see your road trip with Bentley in it.

I love watching your videos. My dad has a 77 with a 350 in it and it sat for 12 years and we finally got it home today and put a battery in it and dumped some fuel into the bowl and turned the key and she started right up.
Awesome when I see you get your boys up in there helping out gonna benefit them long term even if they grow to be musicians, IT, or any other non related field they'll have the essential skills to maintain and repair they're own vehicle's saving time and money and providing a healthy past time if they wanna build a hot rod aside from the huge leg up they will have if they wish to go on to be automotive engineers... As a kid my dad took me to work with him almost every Saturday in the body shop.. learned a lot of life information from him.... brings back so many great memories of my dad....he passed in 2001.... worked side by side with him in the body shop for 12 years......

Seeing you and Bentley working together is amazing. One of the things I cherished most in life, is that my father took me to work any chance he had. Helped him with motors, tires, and you name it. Learned a love and passion for driving and working on cars. And the entire time, I could tell he got flustered but never took it out on me. Just used as chance to show me what to do right next time. Learning to drive on back roads and trail of Rainer national park has taught me to enjoy life and share that while I can. I may not have kids, but I mentor a group of young who were once like me, to show them the joys of working on cars and just driving for fun. Thanks for the videos, been blast finding you and your family.

Absolutely is. My dad had a 1978 Chevy Scottsdale only for pulling his camper, but we are in Michigan and when he sold it in 2000 it had 79,000. The body was about gone though.
@@andrewmoens8614 it was pretty cool he paid $6,800 brand new. The problem today is he got about 10mpg with nothing and 7mpg pulling his camper. That is better than the 3mpg my Uncle got with his Chevy motorhome. Lol
Great show. But I gotta say that young man you got working with you is worth his weight in gold. I don't know many, if any full grown men that are as smart and handy and willing to work. He is also polite and tolerant of old folks, such as yourself. Kids that good are a product of good parents and a stable home enviroment. Please don't let the public school system turn this young man into what the rest of our society has become. You are both very blessed to have the kind of lives you have , and each other. Dang, I wish that I could make a real offer to you for this one in a running condition. I had a 76 Chevy C30 crew cab camper special that I worked on and got on the road. 454 4bbl standard transmission. Pretty much optioned out for its day, but not a 4x4. Took it to town Sept 30 2011, went to work and had my first minor stroke. Never could get it plated because our provincial bureaucracy in Toronto wouldn't allow it. Miss the old girl. This one would be a good replacement, nice truck with nice selection of spare parts.

I love the cars on this channel but I really respect the time he spends with his kids. I wish I had the time away from this big truck to be able to do the same stuff with them. Hopefully down the road it'll happen!
The little humans tend to grow up really quick so you need to make time for your little humans so will they come out great in the end. More parents out there across our great country and many others cuz I'm sure this goes worldwide although providing for them is our number one goal in life as they're young. There is an age where all this knowledge will soak into them and if you miss that age there behind the curve. So wholeheartedly make time for them little humans it will be the most reporting thing you will ever do. Now I'm not saying there won't be challenges along the way LOL but too many parents try to make up for it when the kids are on their way off to college or out of college and by then it's almost too late. I think the biggest thing that really makes people understand how time truly flies by is think about how many years you were in high school and how quickly you can go through those memories in my day high school was 4 years and it honestly flew by in the blink of an eye. So any parent truly needs to understand that they grow up way quick and any parent thinking they need to spend time with their kid good for you make that your goal summertime's the best time to get away with your kids if you can do it totally rewarding in the end when those kids are old enough to start making those decisions themselves in their twenties thirties forties and you're 70 LOL time just takes us way too far away from each other and the kids go and start living their lives definitely recommend making those memories so they remember you laughing and then learning from you. Because as parents we have so many lessons that we have learned that we could give them to make their life just that much better. Well worth the time and and if you lose a little money in the end that's okay the time spent is priceless. So everyone enjoy your kids teach them how to be great adults. And you will receive the rewards throughout their life knowing that you made that little human and you taught them well. Kudos for recognizing it's time to spend more time with the kids I am replying to one comment but buddy I think you are right on track and recognizing the fact that you can do more so worth the time... 💯👌👍 Enjoy them while they're young!!!

Your a good dad me and my old man went through 5 years of me blowing motors I got a 1993 12v for us to restore together that was some of my best times growing up he had a1984 dodge growing up so that wy I got it he past 4 years ago and the truck has been sitting Since I have 5 Girls I got one that is 6 and I'm trying to get her in to trucks long story short keep doing what you are doing your boy's will cherish the moment's they spend with you God bless you and your family 👪 ❤️

That was our wrecker for many years. It was put out of service in 2008 when Larry purchased a new wrecker. Around 2010 or 11 ( can confirm by date on the battery) I did some repairs to the PTO gears and got it tuned up and we used it around the station for a few days until brakes failed. Instead of repairing we just put it right back in its spot and left it. Larry had intentions of restoring it to its former glory as it was his first new wrecker he ever bought. He has turned down many offers to purchase but you just caught him on the right day. I’m excited to see it running and driving again and look forward to seeing it tow again.

This restore really brought me back. My grandpa had the same truck, with a stepside, that we'd drive around in every weekend when I was young. Makes me want one myself even more.
Loved the video. My granddad had this rig (blue with the woody style deluxe) and with the 454, still remember him complaining about the vapor lock issue. Later I inherited his truck. Loved it, wish I still had it now especially after watching you two work on it. Thanks for the video. Brings back great memories.
That exact truck was my first new vehicle I ever bought 13,000 bucks I wish I had never sold it parts were cheap everything was easy to work on. I honestly can't think of anything that was bad about the truck other than maybe using quite a bit of gas. I pulled a 10 x 40 house trailer from a trailer park in Detroit closeing down all the way up to Cadillac Michigan on my 20 acres used mostly for deer hunting season. We always had fun hunting deer drinking and playing cards in the good old days. I have wild stories about four wheeling in the woods getting stuck in the middle of nowhere in the mud, flat tires, we got into all kinds of trouble with that truck and I just loved it would do it all over again that what is a tough old truck.
That is a truck and a half! Seams to be a really great rig, and it even lets you keep an eye out for Smokey Bear. Also, Bentley is a great worker. When most kids "help" on a job they actually slow things down. But not Bentley. He carries his own and then some. He does a man's work, and has a positive, willing, hard-working attitude the whole time. He is a blessing.
Not that the slow-down is necessarily a bad thing. Maybe they're going slow to self-educate, maybe they'r ebeing cautious, maybe you're teaching 'em while they work. Never take those moments for granted, is what I'm saying. Memories go both ways, y'know.
Bentley sure is a good little lad. It sure is nice to see father and son spending valuable time together, and having it all on video for years down the road. Good Job Derek & Jessica at raising such a fine boy.

Love the video, been watching the channel for about two years now. My sons are now watching the channel as well. Your resurrection videos inspired my oldest son(soon to be a retired detective with the local police department and a third generation veteran, yeah have to brag) and I to start working on a 1973 Chevy Cheyenne with a 454 that my Dad bought new in 73. It was parked for about 8 years before he passed away in 2000. So last year when my son said he wanted find an old truck to fix up when he was over helping me do some work on my 52 Ford F1, I told him there's one right out there. The 73 has been sitting at my house since 2000 and was always kind of the next project I was going to get to. Now after sitting for 29 years it has a beautiful new paint job and new interior. Being in Arizona there wasn't much rust damage. It has low original miles like yours so after using some of your tricks for getting abandoned cars going again its running great. He is now the proud owner his grandfathers 73 Chevy Cheyenne built the year he was born. By the way when I saw you and your son tow the Chevy to the shop it reminded me that years ago we used to put about a 10' piece of pipe over the chain to keep the towed vehicle off of the back of towing vehicle. Keep up good work! Love to see fellow patriot saving some of our American history.

Have to admit at the end of my working days the ever increasing amount of electronics and other fancy bits did get too much for me, eventually I gave it best. But it really pleased me to see a Father have his son working with him, slowly passing on a lifetime of knowledge in a practical way.
@@BRI33NOR Absolutely! The thing I like is that vehicle is a worker! That truck is a work horse. People today are so interested in what a car looks like they do not put as much consideration into what they vehicle can do for YOU. That truck will do things for you, besides get you there and back. I love those old pickups, the parts won't bankrupt you because they are common. Today with everything run by sensors and master computers, the parts can break you. All those parts come from China and they are all junk. I saw a guy working on an engine and he put brand new points in and they failed. Brand new. They were so weak that they failed, and he had to go through 3 sets before he found ones that were any good. That's sad.

A friend of mine has 2 boys, well adults now but when they were much younger anytime he had them doing anything with him, it was a constant yelling at them, never really doing much with them, and when he did all that he did was yell at them continuously, and now he wonders why they're never around.

@@rpmevo8 It got to the point where they spent more time with me than they did at their own house LOL. I didn't mind it, they loved learning and helping out. One is a mechanic/welder, the other joined the Army National Guard and works at an assisted living facility...he is the one that goes around giving the patients their prescriptions throughout the day, also works in the kitchen and other areas as needed. All things considered they turned out pretty well.

From 2019 to recently, I was an aircraft maintenance contractor in Iraq (Baghdad and Balad) and after a 12 hr shift in the blazing heat (140F) I so looked forward to jumping on TH-cam in my tiny air conditioned room to watch the latest episode you posted. I've been watching you pretty much since day one and have shared your channel with all my friends.
I realize that as your fame has exploded, you've been taxed more and more to show up at bigger and bigger shows. I hope your success continues as I'm sure it will, but please don't forget that all of us love those great personal revivals that had been your original trademark.
That you include your kids occasionally in the vids is fantastic, Derek - it seems such an obvious thing to do, but that your kids aren't anchored to some chair with a bent neck staring down at an iPhone is great. So tragic that the average kid today does that. There is hope for the next generation!

Watching Bentley drive that truck had tears just flowing down my cheeks. My dad died in 2004 but when I was 11 he taught me to drive his '67 F100 Ranger. Me and my little brother always sat in the middle and he let me steer. The pedals were so far away, the steering wheel was HUGE. It was a three speed column shift and even today - I will never forget that feeling. Damn - sometimes memories are all you have..

My Jaw DROPPED when I saw the thumbnail... My FIRST truck when I was 16 in High School back in 1983 was this EXACT Truck.. Identical Color Combination... Mechanical Differences being mine was a 1976 C20 Camper Special with 350 Eng and Turbo 400 Trans.... I've always been a FORD Guy but in high school I needed a ride and money was tight so this is what I got, she served me well indeed... Thank You for bringing back some great memories.. Jonathan

Derek, this here unit is a perfect candidate for a full restoration. She's a beauty, my dad bought this same color as this truck brand new in 1978. He also bought a new fifth wheel holiday trailer the following year to go with this perty truck, cause he just loved that big block 454 under the hood. He could pass everything on the highway except a petro station ⛽. He sold it to a family friend in 1990 and bought himself a Dodge 3/4 ton with a Cummins in it. I own the Cummins now since my dad passed, it is still to this day in mint condition. The friend still uses it to pull his trailer and keeps it stored over the winter up here in Canada. Derek, I think she's worth bringing back to life. I love those old trucks as well. I have a few oldies myself.

The front fenders had the factory tie down mounts for the camper (3 hole plates) ...saw one on the passenger side seat, and the rest of the camper mounts were on the floor! That factory camper special stuff is worth all the money! Definitely a tough old roundeye!
"It's alive'" Chevrolet big-block * * * This brings back memories of my 1977 Chevrolet Camper Special with 454 under the hood, what a great engine and truck I found locally for $ 700 in running & driving condition back in 2000, a small tune-up + oil-change and BANG, ran like a champ.
Had it as a daily driver for 5 years, great hauling heavy stuff with, dependable pickup.
Can't beat a good old Chevrolet Derek, looking forward to your adventure across US, don't forget bring enough gas-money and cold-snacks !

Bentley & Bros are so blessed. My dad was wonderful, don't get me wrong, and smart as a whip, but the poor fella' barely knew how to operate a screwdriver. And his firstborn, _moi,_ was a baby gearhead and future mechanical engineer. He gave me moral support in my toolish endeavors, but I had to buy my own tools and teach myself *_EVERYTHING!_* (Praise the Lord for _Motor's_ and _Chilton's_ manuals!) Having a dad like Derek, his tools, his example, and his mentoring are the stuff of dreams for kids who are so inclined.

I can't tell ya how many hotrods I diagnosed with vapor lock because of metal fuel lines against the block and heads on power tour this year. DEI helped a lot of folks out on the tour. Great people!
I had vapor lock issue on a couple of my own prior trucks. I had found installing a return system helps alot in keeping warm fuel going back to the tank and cool fuel coming up to the carb.
We were a Ford family, since 1958, but a guy can appreciate this rig. Solid and honest.
I'm going through some rough times physically and emotionally. Your content helps me greatly. I grew up with folks like you and it seems like I'm hanging out with old friends.

Has anyone said the vacuum modulator may be bad yet? Would make trans fluid disappear and cause engine smoking which may have made previous owner think rings were gone, and trans fluid in the engine would so explain the lack of rust after sitting so many years

Hands down the cleanest unrestored square body I’ve ever seen. I’d say my late grandpa was the original owner if I didn’t know better. He was meticulous and thorough to the furthest degree. Very cool pickup.
I've got my great grandfathers 1976 square body that was passed down several years ago. Zero rust. Zero dents. 86k original miles. Currently sits in my parents shop and hasn't been driven in a few years.

I love this channel so much and believe my father would have loved it, too. Watching Derek and Bentley work together reminds me so much of growing up with my mechanic father. We pulled old cars, trucks, and more out of barns, fields, and so on over the years. This channel feels like a time machine for me to remember and celebrate the memory of my father and our time together. Thank you, Derek & Bentley, for reminding me of those days and for putting a smile on my face every single episode.

Seeing you working on this truck brought back so many memories of me and my friends working on my 77 C10. My first truck and my God do I miss it so much. Biggest regret I have was selling it for a little extra cash when I was in college. I hope I can afford to buy one again one of these days. Loved the video!

I LIKE the wheels that were on this truck like others have said they do as well. I was glad to see you give 'em a little elbow grease and love to bring them and the center caps back around and then run 'em. Being as they are nice, vintage-look wheels with new tires mounted on them, maybe replace any of the rusted/pitted lug nuts for looks, or all of 'em. Love the truck, it does have a lot of cool add-ons and accessories. Can't wait to see your road trip with Bentley in it.

Seeing you and Bentley working together is amazing. One of the things I cherished most in life, is that my father took me to work any chance he had. Helped him with motors, tires, and you name it. Learned a love and passion for driving and working on cars. And the entire time, I could tell he got flustered but never took it out on me. Just used as chance to show me what to do right next time. Learning to drive on back roads and trail of Rainer national park has taught me to enjoy life and share that while I can. I may not have kids, but I mentor a group of young who were once like me, to show them the joys of working on cars and just driving for fun. Thanks for the videos, been blast finding you and your family.
Love his episode! I have the identical truck. Same color, same drivetrain, same patina and smell. Found in similar condition and drove home. It’s had a driveline restoration and left as is. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Absolutely is. My dad had a 1978 Chevy Scottsdale only for pulling his camper, but we are in Michigan and when he sold it in 2000 it had 79,000. The body was about gone though.
Any vehicles used in the north, just rotted severely, it's a shame. It would be great to have a nice one today.
@@andrewmoens8614 it was pretty cool he paid $6,800 brand new. The problem today is he got about 10mpg with nothing and 7mpg pulling his camper. That is better than the 3mpg my Uncle got with his Chevy motorhome. Lol
Great show. But I gotta say that young man you got working with you is worth his weight in gold. I don't know many, if any full grown men that are as smart and handy and willing to work. He is also polite and tolerant of old folks, such as yourself. Kids that good are a product of good parents and a stable home enviroment. Please don't let the public school system turn this young man into what the rest of our society has become. You are both very blessed to have the kind of lives you have , and each other. Dang, I wish that I could make a real offer to you for this one in a running condition. I had a 76 Chevy C30 crew cab camper special that I worked on and got on the road. 454 4bbl standard transmission. Pretty much optioned out for its day, but not a 4x4. Took it to town Sept 30 2011, went to work and had my first minor stroke. Never could get it plated because our provincial bureaucracy in Toronto wouldn't allow it. Miss the old girl. This one would be a good replacement, nice truck with nice selection of spare parts.

I love the cars on this channel but I really respect the time he spends with his kids. I wish I had the time away from this big truck to be able to do the same stuff with them. Hopefully down the road it'll happen!
The little humans tend to grow up really quick so you need to make time for your little humans so will they come out great in the end. More parents out there across our great country and many others cuz I'm sure this goes worldwide although providing for them is our number one goal in life as they're young. There is an age where all this knowledge will soak into them and if you miss that age there behind the curve. So wholeheartedly make time for them little humans it will be the most reporting thing you will ever do. Now I'm not saying there won't be challenges along the way LOL but too many parents try to make up for it when the kids are on their way off to college or out of college and by then it's almost too late. I think the biggest thing that really makes people understand how time truly flies by is think about how many years you were in high school and how quickly you can go through those memories in my day high school was 4 years and it honestly flew by in the blink of an eye. So any parent truly needs to understand that they grow up way quick and any parent thinking they need to spend time with their kid good for you make that your goal summertime's the best time to get away with your kids if you can do it totally rewarding in the end when those kids are old enough to start making those decisions themselves in their twenties thirties forties and you're 70 LOL time just takes us way too far away from each other and the kids go and start living their lives definitely recommend making those memories so they remember you laughing and then learning from you. Because as parents we have so many lessons that we have learned that we could give them to make their life just that much better. Well worth the time and and if you lose a little money in the end that's okay the time spent is priceless. So everyone enjoy your kids teach them how to be great adults. And you will receive the rewards throughout their life knowing that you made that little human and you taught them well. Your a good dad me and my old man went through 5 years of me blowing motors I got a 1993 12v for us to restore together that was some of my best times growing up he had a1984 dodge growing up so that wy I got it he past 4 years ago and the truck has been sitting Since I have 5 Girls I got one that is 6 and I'm trying to get her in to trucks long story short keep doing what you are doing your boy's will cherish the moment's they spend with you God bless you and your family 👪 ❤️

That was our wrecker for many years. It was put out of service in 2008 when Larry purchased a new wrecker. Around 2010 or 11 ( can confirm by date on the battery) I did some repairs to the PTO gears and got it tuned up and we used it around the station for a few days until brakes failed. Instead of repairing we just put it right back in its spot and left it. Larry had intentions of restoring it to its former glory as it was his first new wrecker he ever bought. He has turned down many offers to purchase but you just caught him on the right day. I’m excited to see it running and driving again and look forward to seeing it tow again.

This restore really brought me back. My grandpa had the same truck, with a stepside, that we'd drive around in every weekend when I was young. Makes me want one myself even more.

Loved the video. My granddad had this rig (blue with the woody style deluxe) and with the 454, still remember him complaining about the vapor lock issue. Later I inherited his truck. Loved it, wish I still had it now especially after watching you two work on it. Thanks for the video. Brings back great memories.

That exact truck was my first new vehicle I ever bought 13,000 bucks I wish I had never sold it parts were cheap everything was easy to work on. I honestly can't think of anything that was bad about the truck other than maybe using quite a bit of gas. I pulled a 10 x 40 house trailer from a trailer park in Detroit closeing down all the way up to Cadillac Michigan on my 20 acres used mostly for deer hunting season. We always had fun hunting deer drinking and playing cards in the good old days. I have wild stories about four wheeling in the woods getting stuck in the middle of nowhere in the mud, flat tires, we got into all kinds of trouble with that truck and I just loved it would do it all over again that what is a tough old truck.

That is a truck and a half! Seams to be a really great rig, and it even lets you keep an eye out for Smokey Bear. Also, Bentley is a great worker. When most kids "help" on a job they actually slow things down. But not Bentley. He carries his own and then some. He does a man's work, and has a positive, willing, hard-working attitude the whole time. He is a blessing.
Not that the slow-down is necessarily a bad thing. Maybe they're going slow to self-educate, maybe they'r ebeing cautious, maybe you're teaching 'em while they work.
Never take those moments for granted, is what I'm saying. Memories go both ways, y'know.

Love the video, been watching the channel for about two years now. My sons are now watching the channel as well. Your resurrection videos inspired my oldest son(soon to be a retired detective with the local police department and a third generation veteran, yeah have to brag) and I to start working on a 1973 Chevy Cheyenne with a 454 that my Dad bought new in 73. It was parked for about 8 years before he passed away in 2000. So last year when my son said he wanted find an old truck to fix up when he was over helping me do some work on my 52 Ford F1, I told him there's one right out there. The 73 has been sitting at my house since 2000 and was always kind of the next project I was going to get to. Now after sitting for 29 years it has a beautiful new paint job and new interior. Being in Arizona there wasn't much rust damage. It has low original miles like yours so after using some of your tricks for getting abandoned cars going again its running great. He is now the proud owner his grandfathers 73 Chevy Cheyenne built the year he was born.
By the way when I saw you and your son tow the Chevy to the shop it reminded me that years ago we used to put about a 10' piece of pipe over the chain to keep the towed vehicle off of the back of towing vehicle.
