I am 74 years young started watching your channel because I love cars and anything to do with them. I have to admit I wish I had a Dad that would take me on a road trip like this when I was your Sons age. your automotive abilities are admirable but you Father skills will be around long after that metal you work on has returned to the earth. Thanks for being an amazing Dad.

20 years ago, my girlfriend at the time had one of these exact trucks for towing her horse trailer. Her dad had just been deployed to the middle east but had the truck re-painted at Maaco in metallic green before he left. We drove it home 50+ miles and I loved it. Always feel like I’m wasting time when doing anything bc there wasn’t much besides music and my Dodge that excites me anymore. Am loving this series! My dad used to take me on a random 'Breakfast Run". We would leave OKC, drive to the nearest Nickerson Farms near Purcell, OK, maybe 50 miles away, for some pancakes and eggs. Well, afterwards, he would say, " Should we go to Dallas for some home style tortillas from the Tortilla Factory?" I always said "YES!" He knew the owner of the Bakery that made them and we would load up on tortillas, all sorts of Mexican Bread and cookies. They also had a butcher shop next door and we would get some goat meat and they always had some cooked up, so we would buy some of that, put it on a tortilla and make goat meat tacos. Sometimes we would randomly drive 75 miles to a Dairy Queen for an Ice Cream Cone. Sure, there was a Dairy Queen a couple of miles away from the house, but he loved driving that big old Lincoln Continental and taking me with him. We went all the way to Laredo, Texas a few times. Lots of great memories! I guess I got that driving gene from him, nothing better than a big block motor in an old classic car just eating that road up. Am jealous of this truck, miss my old big block Olds 442.

New Mexico was my home for many years. I lived in Albuquerque and, before that, in Gallup, which you will pass through on your way to Winslow. Clines Corners is something that almost defies description! In winter it is often a travelers' savior when I-40 becomes nearly impossible to drive on due to the snow, wind and/or ice...and I ain't kiddin ya! Been there, done that. Enjoy the rest of your trip! There's a lot to see and do as you travel through the homeland of many of America's Indian tribes. Stay safe and thanks for bringing back lots of memories!

"Like a Harbor Freight, but classier". Please put that on a Tshirt. In life, that statement could be a true insult or a decent compliment. It leaves the world wondering.
EDIT: Its been a long time, but that pawn shop brings back memories. I surely hope you gave Mr. Winwood a shout out while you were there.

Great video Derek, one of my favorites so far. Must be so cool having Bentley with you and so cool for him doing this whole thing with Dad. Your boys are so lucky to have a dad like you to learn everything you know. Your knowledge and troubleshooting skills are second to none.

Ever watch the Matt's Off Road Recovery wider family? The kids are older and you can see exactly what an upbringing like that has caused........the kids are awesome and have skills they are building on and can take care of each other, and the wider community. They are all doing fine, but want to connect Utah to the other side of the continent via Cletus. Give Fabrats Paul a boost with The Freedom Factory, and bring my favourite channels together.

The one part that you said never breaks, is the only part that broke on mine. Back when a fuel pump cost about $5, cost me $27 in the middle of the desert. And grease will hold the rod in place while you reinstall the pump. Nice to see another deluxe camper special package .

I've totally enjoyed your Route 66 road trip I've travelled that route about four times we even stayed in a motel in Tucumcari back in 1973 This will definitely be a memorable trip for your son to reflect back on in the years to come. It's great for the two of you to have the time to stop and see all the quaint things and old buildings on this trip. I really got a kick when you pulled into the pop shop by Edmund,Ok. our son lives there and we've gone to the Pop Shop several times. I really enjoy all of your videos and am always looking forward to the next one. I really appreciate that your content is always family friendly. Keep up the good work and the very best for you and your family.

In that field of rusted nope-not-for-sale symbols of American Carisma shyly sits a Henry J coupe. Notable in 2 ways: first, the only car named after a guy who named two cars, and second, from the back it looks like an adolescent girl in her first sweater. Wonderful episode in a journey we are privileged to share with the Bieri Boys. Thank you, Derek and Bentley.

Of course I am still loving your content and your honesty in showing ALL of the issues of the trip. The only part I don't really like is seeing the iconic American highway history dying. That is not your fault and is not a slight against your content. This really showcases how much we as Americans do not support small businesses. Mom and Pop stores/ motels etc. are quickly falling away and the back roads that were the backbone of this nation are slipping away into obscurity. Thank you again Derek for showing this part of America, sad that it is so rarely seen.

I call the styrofoam coolers "one night stands" for that very reason. A case of beer comes with its own cooler if you add a garbage bag and ice. Lasts nearly as long as the one night stand, too. I put two fuel pumps in the factree 305 of my c10 within a five year period. Changed the motor out about 15 years ago & no trouble since....knock on good wood. Thank you for the Route 66 tour. This is probably the only way this gal will ever get to see it. That truck is looking better with every episode. Can't wait to see how much it earns at the auction. Y'all have fun & stay safe!

Ok, fair warning, thus will be long.
In 2009-10 my first wife was done, left me during my 3rd deployment to Iraq. When I got back, I took some leave and decided I would ride (motorcycle) Old Rte 66.
I lived in Pacific MO at the time, just about a block off of 66. So, I didn't want to take a full day's ride up to Chicago, just to turn around and ride back a full day to be roughly at the starting point.
I don't remember if it was Tulsa or Oklahoma City was where I stopped for the night on day 1, but ended day 2 in Amarillo.
I have to say, the little clip of driving out after Cadillac ranch really reminded me of just how amazing the landscape change was headed out of Texas and into New Mexico. You don't even need a state line sign to understand you're entering a change of area.
Glad you and the son made this trip. He will remember this long after you are gone.
