Copart gives you zero physical paperwork. They mail you a title. I had electronic documentation verifying the purchase of this vehicle. Even if I had the title on me only Lawton PD was able to release the vehicle as recovered.
Actually, it is the department that put the stolen into the NCIC computer system to remove the vehicle when it is recovered. Happens more than you would think, some states are better than others in removing it. Also most states you have 2 days to register a vehicle.

I have a very common name, was once pulled over for a lane violation, the zesty sheriff deputy took my license for 35 minutes, I'd had enough and stepped out of my truck with both hands open in front of me, had 2 Glocks pointed at me by original and 2nd deputy, ordered to walk backwards to first cop cars bumper, I was 47 at the time with zero adult criminal history and last road ticket was in 03 for a seat belt. Was a gas station a year later and the first deputy was 2 pumps over, I did the two finger " I see you" gesture and he throws his rig in drive and chirps out the lot.
Mortske- I spent 17 years as a cop of one sort or another. IN MY OPINION, what burned you was the NCIC system and potential laziness of any of three entities. #1- The company that sold you the truck who, possibly, never verified the recovery of the vehicle with the Lawton Police Department and never checked for the "clean" VIN prior to selling it to you. #2- The Police Department which actually recovered the vehicle never verified that Lawton Police Department had removed the "stolen" status prior to releasing it to the tow company which took it to the Auction company. #3- And most likely...No one at Lawton Police Department bothered to remove the "Stolen Status" from the truck in NCIC after someone at Lawton PD confirmed the vehicle had been stolen to the recovering Police agency. It could have been a detective, a street officer, a dispatcher or administrative assistant (Who were NCIC qualified) who failed to do their jobs. How about the actual cops who arrested and processed you? In my opinion, they did absolutely nothing wrong. The NCIC hit on the VIN was reported. The dispatcher verified the NCIC hit and the officer arrested you. Unless something happened which was not shown on the video, the cop acted in a very professional, and understanding, manner. The $300.00 you put out on the tow and storage was DAMNED cheap. Do you have legal recourse? I'm no lawyer, just a retired Law Enforcement Officer. In my opinion, you do...but I don't think you'll get your money's worth or your ounce of flesh. You will, however, be able to cleanse the arrest from your record. In several locations it takes about a year for removal. Make a work shirt with prison stripes on it. It'll make a fortune. Good luck!!! Oh by the way, After the intro of you getting busted, I smelled a rat when you guys found the journal with the Army crap and dirty pictures in it. Fort Sill is in Lawton, OK. There are a number of scumbags in the Army. Some Private possibly stole the truck from another Private and went on a lark. Lawton PD has their hands full with people like that. Sorry you had to be a victim of such crap,
I had the same take but I would have asked the supervisor for a sign and release at most. It was an obvious paperwork SNAFU with the defund the police and nobody wanting to work in records because they can't pass a background check or piss test for the same money as working McDonald's. Like I said in another post it happens all the time with rental cars being reported, getting recovered and not cleared in NCIC before being rented out again. I would say COPart and the insurance company will pony up the money and a little extra to not get sued as he does have a cause for extreme emotional trauma from the arrest. When an incident person gets cuffed, booked and has never played on that side of the street it will make you a little pissed for awhile. Thanks for your service!

A friend I grew up with since 5th grade became an attorney like his Dad; we’ve been friends ever since going on 72 years. Two things he said always stick in mind. Free legal advice is worth what you pay for it, and if I ever want to sue someone, just make out a check to my attorney for a hundred thousand dollars, and tape it to the bathroom mirror where you shave every day, because that’s what getting into a lawsuit will wind up costing you. Sometimes it’s better to take your turn in the barrel and leave it behind you as fast as Duff can run. Karma will catch up with Copart especially since you and your channel is so respected, this will not go un-noticed. I would not even be surprised if they reach out to you first if they’re smart. I know how you feel though. I was so glad to see the greeting Duff Dog gave you when you returned home. Thank you for another well done video Sir Thomas!
I definitely think Lawton pd also share a responsibility for not being very cooperative in the beginning and for not releasing the stolen flag from the system when it wasn't "stolen" any longer! Would have prevented this headache for sure
Holy shit so much awesomeness in this one. Love that truck! Y'all are hilarious together. My belly hurts! Filming your arrest is gold. That cop was really cool about everything. I really enjoyed this one!
Wow! That was a surprise. The deputy seemed so understanding at first. His superiors must have ordered him to take you in. Surprise #2: you weren't carrying a pistol. Given the sketchy stuff you drive, breaking down in the middle if nowhere - or maybe worse, a bad part of an urban area - I assumed you'd have a sidearm. +1 on getting legal assistance, maybe some compensation, and getting your record expunged. On the bright side, maybe this video will blow up & you'll recoup some funds. Best wishes, from TX!

@MortskeRepair I worked security at a car dealership and they keep track(VIN plates and dealership stock ID numbers) of the cars in the yard. The car sales and trade-in manager runs the VINs through DMV and they don't accept vehicles new from the factory and trade-ins that don't have a title or if there's a title the name on the title must match the VIN and the registration tag on the plates of the vehicle.
Paul's Towing - great standup guy. He helped me out of a real pinch when I had a wheel bearing go out on my pickup while pulling a loaded 40 ft. trailer home on a Sunday night.
I am 100% down for a prison stripe Mortske work shirt.
HAR! Lawton, OK, this writer was stationed at Ft.Sill and agress with OPs assessment. I am surprized the base is still open; so many have closed over the past two decades
Just started the video, it doesn't get much better the immediate back and forth with you and Puddin, it's awesome, cheered me right up, ha ha ha. Can't wait to see the jail bird. Still can't believe that happened dude.
Glad to hear it!
Oh my word! Thank goodness for friends! Just crazy what happened! Our youngest son got arrested in a similar type situation! I hope you can washout your mind from the situation and take peace of mind how YOU handled the situation! Awesome pickup man! I use to not care for the 81-82 front end but have changed my mind!👍🏻👍🏻😎🇺🇸❤️🍺
“Man is born free but everywhere he is in chains.” Free Mortske.
lol
Monday's with Mortske makes them tolerable! Appreciate it
My pleasure
Copart better step up to the plate for sure
We shall see
Look up under the dash on the passenger side for the vacuumed pod. If my memory doesn't fail me, there different vacuumed lines make sure there all plugged in.😊
will do
As someone from the UK who travels in the US a fair bit its a relief to see the interaction with the Sheriff and how he handled everything professionally (you too Mortske), we only ever see the bad ones on TV or the internet so yeah even though it was an admin problem and not your fault you were still dealt with respectfully and politely it just sucks you lost time and money.
From what he said I have a feeling that professionalism ended once he started going through the system. But I agree, it was nice to see a respectful cop.
To be honest with you I'm just glad that you stay positive knowing that you are super mad that's the way to act professional
sometimes I try
@MortskeRepair hey morski I won't be giving away that truck quite yet there's going to need some much love need to be done to that rear end LOL and how they did that c notch it's insane you going to have to box it in that's nothing more she can't handle and I can't wait to see you up in the upcoming videos if you ever get that ProCharger fixed that's going to be some big bucks I'm sorry to hear about your experience and just staying positive and not thinking of negative even though you're mad keeping it professional I got a short temper with me I would have set a few shorts words
You and pudding talking at the first part when you picked up the truck that would be me and my buddies judging whatever everybody else did and laughing at them lol
Good times!
Appreciate the honest feedback!
Lawyer will take an easy one like this one on contingency.
Mortske does not hold back. He is FAF. Messing with the boys when pudding is gone😅
I’d be suing Copart tomorrow
It's not that easy
I would feel some ptsd from that too
@@MortskeRepair Suing is always easy. No shortage of junkyard lawyers drooling like dogs for an easy case.
YOUR DOG COULD WIN THIS CASE!!!
At about 26:00 Mortske is joking about the previous owner just telling the bank the truck was stolen. Talk about "foreshadowing", holy stuck pulley!
It's hilarious of the amount of experts here that have not once in their life ever been in this position. You guys crack me up. Mortske, love the constant banter and what you get up to. Can't wait until you and Puddin are sitting around doing a podcast about the old days and you can get into the nitty gritty of what happened during your time in the big house 😂😂
Appreciate it
Great episode! Laughter - of the c10 note book, love - from your friends in Oklahoma , and sorrow - incomplete paperwork before the auction . This would make a well rounded moive!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank God slick turned up
Who?
So sorry this happened to you, the greatest content creator on TH-cam 😟 see if we send them a Christmas card! 😐
Exactly
Mighty nice of that cop to let you set up the tripod to catch the cuffing.
He was alright
They like giving u a reach around while they f you.
Dear Mortske -- you and Pastor Puddin are the greatest DUO of all time.
Appreciate that
Morty you rebel! You're my hero! Honestly it really sucks though. I'm glad you got treated respectfully at least.
me too
Been waiting for this video after Puddin was teasing!
Here it is
I love when y'all do these collab videos! Y'all got me laughing! 😂
Glad you enjoy them!
Almost called in stick to work today to watch this 😂.... Guess ill wait until this evening
worth it!
My doctor would approve
I'm watching at work.
Idiots 😂😅😊😢 I lost it on the whole peanut butter part!!!! Sitting in my truck in the ac, on luch break watching the video laughing my ass off.Best content on TH-cam brother you boys are hilarious !!😅
@@jasoncroson8466 lol!
I'm so sorry about all this mess you have had to go thru. My husband and I watch u every week we love u and Duff and the guys on your channel. You are the same age as my oldest son but you remind me so much of my youngest . You two could pass for brothers. I will continue to watch and support you and pray all this works out. They need to make it right with you copart , hagerty and the Lawton police dept. Hang in there I will be blowing their emails up
Thanks so much
I thought you were kidding about getting arrested. I’m glad I saw the second channel video. But Mr. Mortske, we gotta talk about that 1969 Camaro I couldn’t help but notice. I know this won’t help, but remember that everything happens for a reason, and we don’t always understand it. Keep on keeping on, your videos are awesome, so are you!
I just started watching this video and am not looking forward to the part where you get in trouble. # Justice for Mortske.
it's hard for me to watch
After going through the hassle of lost titles and non notorized bill of sales, my rule is to never buy anything if I can't get a clean title and bill of sale. Sorry for your troubles.
Nice patina truck , sponge.shine juice on it and flip it.
Wow, what a way to start your morning! Geez Louise, glad you had some friends around ..
me too
Oh Mortske, I am so sorry about your ordeal. I live in Lawton. Supposedly, LPD is very understaffed (insert eye roll). I hope everything works out so that all you have is a great story to tell. God bless!
everything is understaffed
Thanks for sharing this experience - Sorry, but to be honest with no plates, no title, auction vehicle, registered as stolen, no purchase paperwork, no contact numbers…..what did you expect to happen? Some lessons are expensive and frustrating…..ask me how I know.
I had all the exact same documentation that every car Copart sells. Literally thousands every week.
Ol duff sniffing to make sure you didn't drop the soap
That was nice of him to give you bracelets and have you wait in his car for his safety!
Seriously though, respect the blue
It wasn’t his fault
Blue line gang members that illegally operate their racketeering and extortion business against law abiding citizens everyday DEFUND DEFUND DEFUND no more QUALIFIED IMMUNITY either DEFUND
I’m sorry, I know, and have worked with a lot of cops. Most of them got picked on as a kid or were in the military at one time and most have a chip on their shoulder there are a few very few that have common sense and are not arrogant and do theirjob correctly it is a tough job and if it paid more, you would get better qualified people to work
That cop didn’t seem to bad but it could’ve been left to his discretion and should’ve been you had proof of purchase
@@howiefeltersnatcher It's not a glorious job
@@howiefeltersnatcherif it paid more??? Where I live they make $85k up to $115k annually(not to mention really really good benefits package with medical, dental, sick leave, uniform allowance, retirement, etc)police sergeant and lieutenant make even more. Is it not well paid outside washington state?
Man oh man. I sure can't think of a better vehicle to unload quickly. Bad juju. Good luck.
That’s sucks my friend sorry that happened to you thank you to copart but I really do appreciate all the videos that you put together for us on you tube
The two of you together never disappoints..😎
Glad you enjoyed it!
You y’all guys and all your silliness y’all are funny lol
anytime
With an open like that, knowing I have to go to work????? KILLIN ME...
Just call in sick
A few things here:
1: this was the best video you ever put out in my opinion
2:i always assumed you TH-camrs that deal in tons of cars had some kind of dealers license so you'd have a plate for anything you drive
3: i can't believe how calm you were being arrested and how nice that officer was
All good stuff.
I know I am late to the party but really sorry you had to go though that , but sure makes a great video . Thanks for taking us along and best of luck on the outcome . B
No worries!
Jesus Copart are some scummy assholes. So i checked a no they do not check to see if they were stolen. But you can buy a membership package where they will reimburse you if it does turn out the vehicle was stolen. SO MUCH FUN!.
Oh which package is that?
"Makin' his waaaaaaay the only way he knows how. That's just a little bit more than the law will allow..."
awesome! ha!
shoulda painted a number on the doors
@@sweettony9359 good one, spot on!
That cop was pretty awesome, all things considered.
Agreed
Yea he definitely got a good cop there, from personal experience a lot of cops have a superiority complex. The good ones dont let the badge go to they're head and treat people like people.
First I am glad you are out and safe. I absolutely enjoy your trips to Oklahoma. Thanks for the life lesson.
Our pleasure!
Bless your heart, you work hard and this kind of stuff happens. Love your show man
Thanks
Free Mortske, Free Mortske! 😅🤣😂
Freedom!!
Omfg that truck is beautiful
It’s pretty sweet
Glad you didn’t have to stay in jail because I always look forward to your videos when I get off work I watch them a quarter at a time because I have to get some sleep just finished this one
I'm sorry to hear about the problems you ran into. I'm glad you're ok.
This is one of those stories that should start with " once upon a time" Made for a good video tho. Be well. Sorry it turned to crap on ya.
With a disclaimer!
The king of junk . Buying hot stuff 😆
New one for me
No one runs titles and VINs through DMV and the state cops anymore?
Apparently not! Is that something I’m supposed to do every time I buy a car?
@MortskeRepair i thought those auto sales and parts salvage yards are supposed to check on that
@@nathanlewis5682 Heck if I know. Never worked at one or dealt with one before on something like this.
Here in nc iv had a few calls in ref to checking stolen vehicles. Havnt had one yet thank god cause the papers as a deputy are a pain in the ass
I swear, you guys make my TH-cam experience great!
ooofda
Paul's Towing - great standup guy. He helped me out of a real pinch when I had a wheel bearing go out on my pickup while pulling a loaded 40 ft. trailer home on a Sunday night. Fixed it that night in his shop and I was back on the road in 4 hours. Sucks you were put in the situation you were, but seems as though the LEO and Paul were as cool as they could be given the circumstances.
Awesome
Mortske & Trump, my two favorite felons.
uffda
That interior screams merica
The colors maybe!
No gun rack... that's not nearly 'Murica.
@16driver16 you are 100% correct no gun rack or cb radio
expectation vs. reality of buying a Copart c10! Thanks Mortske, your misfortune made a great video!!
Glad you liked it!
Everything is a racecard, specially a stowing truck. Texas & Oklahoma that truck is automatically in the front row of the race. Don't worry bout inspection Son,we got you. Just go on up there and give it to'em!
Violated is the word you're looking for.
Bummer dude I’ve come close a couple times at 51 now but you got that life experience now! But serious he was cool your cool all good.
Been there done that my friend . Glad you made it home ASAP. IT could have been alot worse ,trust me . Take care.
No doubt
That is a nice squarebody and as always a lot of fun with Puddin it makes for a great video I am sorry you got in trouble with the law thanks Mortske for sharing
