I'm a 42 year old black guy. I love you channel. My neighbor is a 68 year old white guy. We talk maybe 3 times in 3 years. He walked over 2 days ago to ask me a question. During an exchange I said, "I'll be dipped." His eyes got big, and he explodes with, "I watch Derek every day! I check every day for a new release." Keep doing what you do, we enjoy your show here in Talladega, Alabama.

The smile on Bentley's face pulling into that driveway is about as good life can get right there. Some of my best memories are road tripping with my dad, just two boys, dad, a squarebody chevy with a box camper in the back going across Canada, no plan, just a map and lots of pee breaks.

I was really tight with my Dad. We did everything together: boats, cars, motorcycles, model airplanes, model trains, and the list goes on. It makes me so happy to see that kind of relationship with you and Bentley. Ive told you this before and I’ll say it again, that young man loves you and loves being with you. You can’t buy that with any amount of money. I’m 63 and I miss my father every single day.

It's a bit like visiting my Dad's cousin who married a dairy farmer. Every couple of months we'd drive out from the city to the country, and see what they'd done to the farm. They'd do the most exciting stuff a 10 year old city kid could do. Weld broken gates, drive tractors to feed cows, milk cows, feed poddies, irrigate paddocks. I agree. Best memories are me pops and gramps in a old Ford econoline van roadtrpping through the desert and going to Bodie in 1973. Wild burros eating my dads cigars, the abandoned town, the huge rattlesnake cruising down the road. We camped down the old road next to a spring fed stream, nothing like the desert sky at night. There is another mining camp that, if I remember right was called San Andreas or something like that. Cool place. Hiking around we found arrow heads, old whiskey bottles and all sorts of cool stuff even an old broke open safe in a gully. We panned and found gold, I swear my pops had the midas touch, he found more gold than anyone. He taught me to always look at the ground and survey your surroundings, you never know what may be there just waiting to be discovered.

I remember moving to California in 63 or 64. My parents traveled route 66 from midstate Illinois all the way to California I would’ve been 11 years old. This is something Bradley will remember the rest of his life. You’re a great family man keep it up.

Brother, this is one of the best trips a person could ever embark on, and to take your son along with you is just wonderful! Its almost become a forgotten journey to people-especially young people. I remember taking watching the movie "CARS" with my son Jacob and how much truth the (cartoon movie) displayed about how the old highway has been left behind; the same with Doc Hudson going from Champion to "has been." The only thing that stays the same is change, and the only thing that lasts forever is the Love a person gives! Thats why your son will remember this trip forever and such a wonderful gift to give from you; I think every person should take a cruise down the "mother road" at least once in their lifetime...the shift in perspective from it would be enlightening for anyone who does. If I weren't so slammed with work at the moment I would help you swap that T400 out overnight at my shop "MidnightOils Restoration" so you wouldn't miss a beat, especially since you will be going right by here on your way down route 66 where I live in Claremore, Oklahoma! Maybe, the next time you come through here you'll have time to stop in brother. Myself and all the hot rod community appreciate what you're doing I can assure you! Keep up the great work and God Bless you! Ryan :)

Disney's Cars really did hit different after we did a Route 66 road trip! We did the Arizona section and it was honestly the most epic drive I've ever done. We plan on doing the rest of the mother road at some point ❤️

The recurring theme down below is how much Bentley will remember this, how great it is for him, how special you are, but I guess they don't know it, that you are really doing all this with your son for YOU! I'm thinking you get just as much out of it, if not more, than your son does.

When I was in the 3rd grade my dad built a old c10 out of about 8 trucks. Painted her up in the back yard an all. He picked me up 1 day very randomly an we drove from Central Kentucky (taylor co.) to Zackary Louisiana. I'll never in my life forget that memory. Bentley won't either. My dad was murdered in 2015. Watching your videos really reminds me of him. I pulled my first engine in a 79 f100 when my old man was in a wheelchair after a knee replacement.
Much love and respect from Kentucky!!!

Took my kids for a history lesson through AZ and NM on 66 - the original. Which is for the most part still unpaved. In a New Yorker Landau. What a ride. Turns out some of those Pueblos are a little unfriendly. Oh, and forget about gas - there really isn't any mostly. Lucked out and caught a Pow Wow and taught the kids about bartering, though. So far been from Santa Monica through TX on as much of the oldest alignment possible. Essex, CA there was an old service station that didn't have gas anymore. I was on the Harley with one of my daughters and needed air. Old man still sat in his chair with his old dog like he always did. The stories I heard.... Didn't get out of there for an hour, and the air compressor still worked (bonus!). Also if he's still alive go see Angel Degadillo, the barber in Seligman, AZ. Born on the block behind the barber shop, he watched the dust bowl migrants come through as a kid. Last time I saw him in about 2013 he was still chopping his firewood in the morning to cook breakfast.
