Oh, my goodness. You pick the wrong time and place to learn to ride a bike. The traffic in Vietnam is CRAZY. On the other hands, if she can handle a bike in Vietnam, she can ride her bike anywhere in the world!!!

So proud and uber happy for you, Tia! What a huge accomplishment. You may need to get your own bike if you're planning on doing the Ha Giang Loop as the more weight on the bike, the less comfortable it will be as the suspension would be nil with you both on there and your bottoms will be sore, which would make for an uncomfortable and painful trip.

Yay, Tia! Congrats for having the courage to learn to ride a motorbike in Viet Nam. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Maybe I'll learn as well when I finally get to move there, hopefully this year. I'm looking forward to getting back to Đà Lạt one day. Enjoy!

Congratulations Tia. However, I would not suggest you to ride in the big cities in Vietnam unless you have already used it for some time. Da Lat is the city found by a French doctor in the colonial days. It became a vacation place for the French to escape the heat in HoChiMinh city ( old Saigon). The last Vietnamese emperor also had his vacation mansion there. This city provides most of flowers for all the country, especially roses . Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. Have fun and enjoy !

I’ve been riding motorcycles forever. I rode in Hanoi rush hour my first day there ever. I suggest beginners go slow until they have more experience and confidence. Also automatic bikes are really easy. I’ve driven quite a bit in Vietnam and China and one thing I do is always be prepared to stop or avoid someone because anything can and does happen

First off, congratulations on the courageous effort Tia. The second thing, and this is going to sound very VERY VERY weird, is that VN is actually not a bad place to learn how to ride a scooter. The traffic accepts slow rider, they just go around you, because they're used to seeing all kind of riders. Try to drive 35mps on a boulevard in the US suburb and see what kind of pressure you'll get from other drivers on the road. In VN, they just avoid you and go around you. Having said that, all bets are off when it comes to trucks and buses in VN, they're maniacs. Even the best of Vietnamese scooter riders will give way to buses and trucks and you should do the same.
Take care guys, drive careful, drive slowly and take advantage of those road side rest stops with hammock and cheap sugar cane juicers.

...."that VN is actually not a bad place to learn how to ride a scooter". Errr...especially without a valid Vietnamese driving license I would not recommend it. And no, your national license is not valid and neither is an international drving permit. Cheers, OX

👍 Go, Tia, go!!! Da Lat used to be the romantic honeymoon destination for Saigonese back in the days so hope that means we'll see even nicer natural sceneries. Yep, that roasted sweet potato lady sure wasn't very nice to way overcharge you because you're foreigners but as a roasted Okinawa purple yam lover myself, I get Tia's cravings. The tuber to try in Vietnam though is KHOAI MI (cassava, yuca) served with fried green onion, salt, sugar, sesame seed mixture. That, and XOI BAP, mochi rice with hominy, mung bean paste and fried crispy onions are two must try breakfast foods, or snacks in Vietnam!!! Oh, and of course, anything wrapped in banana leaves. I had no idea what they were most of the time but double points for being eco-friendly+delicious 😋

It seems the bike is Honda's semi-automatic which was conceived over 60 years ago and is generally known as "Dream". You don't need to press a left hand level to disengage clutch. You just press left hand pedal to change gear as by pressing the pedal it will disengage clutch as well as changing gear. That's why it is called semi-automatic motorcycle. You press the left hand pedal forward to shift to 1 2 3 4 and if you press forward again it will shift back to neutral, some kind of loop. You can also shift gear down by pressing back lever such as changing from 4 to 3 etc. It is easier than shifting gear with clutch lever in that even if you suddenly stops while in gear (4 3 2 1), you don't need to press clutch lever to prevent engine's stop. The engine is idling just fine even if it is stopped and in gear. But the engine must be in either gear 1 or 2, otherwise there is not enough torque to pull it forward.

    • @minhtannguyen1905
      @minhtannguyen1905 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

A minor correction. You go N-1-2-3-4-N. And you can't shift to N from 4 while moving. Have to completely stop if you want to go 4-N. You also can't shift if you don't release the throttle. It just disengages the clutch and if you rev while pressing down the shift pedals, you're basically downshifting so it's very dangerous since the bike will rush forward after releasing the shift pedals.

Wow! 👍,Tia can drive a motorscooter! Be careful!. I hope your family enjoy the cooler weather in Dalat which had nickname "Little Paris" in Viet-Nam as the French colonial government chose it for them for vacation during Viet-Nam was the French colony. The beautiful lake (Hồ Xuân Hương, "Hồ" means "Lake") named after a poet Ms. "Xuân Hương". The tower on other side actual is a TV tower. You should visit the cathefral St. Nicholas of Bari which is just across street few meter from that TV tower. I stayed the Duparc hotel (3 nights in Jan 2018) near that cathedral. People often call that church is " chicken church" since on top of the tower has a Goloa chicken. Dalat is a popular city for Saigoneses taking short vacation in cooler climate.

just like riding an eeehr bike
see if you can find some cones and practice slalom driving , tight circles in both directions and emergency stops (certan speed tight up to a cone then brake as hard as you can using both brakes ) aspecially the last one is important as you then know how long it takes to stop lock up the wheels and the order in wish to apply the brakes

I wouldn’t ride on a main road until you have alot more practice.

oh gezz, you 're support to peel the skin off sweet potato. I don't think they washed for baking. Even steam potato, they still peel off the skin. It's not same like in US that we wash, bake, and eat without peeling....lol...I guess you have swallowed some mud that's delicious.

I was researching motorcycle riding in Vietnam and it said that you need a Vietnamese driver's license which you can't get on a tourist visa and international licence isn't valid, what did you have to do to cover rental and insurance. Great vlogs I'm hoping to be in Asia to tour on a bike soon. Cheers

Some insurance policies will still cover you, it's best to ask your insurer directly. Every rental agency will rent a bike to you without looking twice.
In practice, the driving license situation in Vietnam is complex. Most drivers in Vietnam don't have a license, and the police will expect 'coffee money' from you if they stop you, no matter what papers you have. It's all very informal.
