    Awesome! I was routing for you! We love Vietnam and look forward to all your next adventures there. Laos is idyllic and open as you know. I hope you will also travel there after Vietnam. I think you will love it! We have been to Vietnam 13 times and can't wait to return. I think we have gone to Laos a half dozen times, at least. It is all totally amazing! Let us know if you want any suggestions! Safe and happy travels!

    I'm actually going to be in Hue tomorrow for my own visa run. Do you remember where you got breakfast?
    Dipping the fresh bread in the tomato sauce reminds me of Nha Trang style luc lac. It was also quite tasty! 😋

      That’s awesome! Stands out as one of the top 3 best things either of us has ever done. What route are you taking from Hue?
      I don’t remember the name of the breakfast place. I do remember it was south of Highlands Coffee on the main tourist strip through Hue. It had lots of outdoor seating and was pretty swanky. That’s a pretty vague description but I hope it helps.
      Have a blast!

    they "say" yesterday was the START of the rainy season , my guess is there a little late anouncing it
    about the poncho's wat you could do is wear a belt strapped around youre waist and the rear part of the poncho , that should help some against the balooning
    thnk that if i decide to take a motorbike trip those ponchos are definetely on the list to get

    Hihi. Great trip so far. I did notice one comment by a viewer about possibly trying a more communal eating experience if you’re into that . I’m an Asian American so I know we eat individual dishes back home but in SouthEast Asia, eating together is a very social and enjoyable meal especially at dinner. Lunch is usually individual dishes as time is not a luxury. In Vietnam for dinner, rice and noodles are not that common with a communal sharing but instead, wonderful grilled seafood and stir fried vegetables are with cold beer with ice. Think buffet- don’t load up on carbs and go for the good stuff. Happy eating and safe voyages!

    It seems you visit the same border that I biked from this border to visit central VN to Banana Hill (stayed overnight up there and it was cold in the hotel in April, supposedly summer season), Hue, Danang, Hoi-an and biked back 10 years ago with other 59 bikers from Thailand. The border crossing took less than 30 minutes as all our passports were taken by the VN guide to process and we just came down to let immigration official see our faces with our bikes.

    There are 3 Laos consulates in VN - HCM, Da Nang & Ha Nói. I use the one next to Bo-Y in KonTum. You (as Foreigners} can drive in to Laos, do your visa thing then drive back into VN. Bo-y is the southernmost gateway to Laos from VN. Beautiful new archway designates the border, great for photo's.

    I’m not sure what your travel plans are after Vietnam, but if you are considering Laos, then may I suggest going overland from Dien Bien Phu in northern Vietnam via the Sop Hun - Tây Trang border crossing into Laos. I see that Tigit allow you to take their bikes into Laos. So maybe explore Laos and come back in about the middle of Vietnam to visit Hoi An before returning the bikes at Da Nang.
    If you don’t want to take bike or then Dien Bien Phu can be reached from Ha Noi (10 hours) and Sapa. You can travel from Dien Bien Phu virtually straight to Luang Prabang by bus, but there is a more adventurous indirect route.
    This involves travelling by bus from Dien Bien Phu via the border crossing to Muang Khua in Laos (3-5 hours). If the river is not in flood and they are running then take a 5 hour boat journey from Muang Khua down the Nam Ou river to stay for a night or two in the lovely little village of Muang Ngoi Neua. The public boats normally run every day. From here it is a one hour boat ride down to the town of Nong Khiaw. This runs at least once a day. This is a great little town with a superb view from the hill overlooking the town. From here there are regular mini-buses to Luang Prabang (4 hours). As a backup there is the non-boat option of taking a bus from Muang Khua (via a change in Muang Xay, 3 hours) to Luang Prabang (5 hours). There is also option of taking the high speed train (160 kph) from Muang Xay south to Luang Prabang.
    While I have never done the entire route I have travelled to Nong Khiaw and Muang Ngoi Neua. I have read that Nong Khiaw is alternatively known as Muang Ngoi (the name of the surrounding district), creating obvious confusion with Muang Ngoi Neua. From Luang Prabang take the high speed train (if you can get a seat down to the notorious Vang Vieng and then on to Vientiane.
    Check with the Laos embassy in Ha Noi about the border crossings, to confirm you can get a visa on arrival, taking a motorbike, etc.
    For further information on each place see www.travelfish.org/.

    So great you all can continue to enjoy the journey . . . and at a much more relaxed pace now.
    Hue was as far as we made it back in 2020 when we had to leave the country due to the pandemic and all the closing borders. So super excited to see north of Hue as we are planning our return this fall.
    Had you applied for a Vietnam e-visa a day or two before the border run or are they doing visas on arrival at the Lao Bao border crossing?
    Can you share the name of the restaurant where you ate breakfast the first day? The food looked phenomenal.
    Thanks for sharing!! Stay safe!

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The food they ate is called bo ne (dodging beef) and is basically Vietnam's equivalent of steak and eggs. There's usually way more to it than just the eggs and steak, oft times you'll get pate and onions or even canned sardines instead of steak. You dip your bread in it to eat.

    I did the border run today.
    Hopefully the 90 day visa will return soon.
    Muc Bai is the run for people in HCM -
    The good news is - like she said- there are now no restrictions to enter VN !
    You will need a vaccine certificate to enter Cambodia.
    I showed mine on my phone- no problem.
    If you do it right- you can walk into Cambodia and then just re enter VN .
    You can do it yourself- I saw people doing it. Or pay a visa run company in Hcm. I recommend that.
    I used the guys there at the border. I don’t recommend that.
    I will give the company I recommend in a update.
    30 days is not enough time to see this country.I hope they change it back to the 90 day visa for you guys coming over soon.
    Thai Duong tourism.
    Shuttle service to and from Muc Bai- they will also handle everything at the border. For a price. But it’s worth it IMO.
    Good luck and cheers everyone

    I hear the super loud karaoke all day and night long is a very Vietnamese thing. Glad to hear the border run worked as I read someone else mention how you cannot renew the visa right away but have to wait 60-90 days before you can do it again.

    • @DaveEPie
      @DaveEPie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just did it- as did others-
      Just apply for a new evisa about 10 days before your old one expires.
      Unfortunately as of today- you still need to do a border run.
      The price adds up and does wasting a day.
      Good luck

    • @OnePackWanderers
      @OnePackWanderers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We read a lot of conflicting information online prior to doing it ourselves. The border is actually operating in the same way it did before Covid, though. The only documents they checked were our passports and visas.
      Like someone else said, it does take up a whole day though.

    Hi guys, I’m so happy for your visa extension! Since you’re planning on traveling at a slower pace in the remaining month, I’d suggest you take a train as well at some point. One of the nicest memories I have of Vietnam is when I took the overnight train from Hue to Ninh Binh. It’s a great experience! Greetings from Munich

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of Vietnamese people do not recommend taking the train as it's the worst mode of transportation for traveling (airplanes are often faster and cheaper than trains and some of the luxury buses are really nice like the one 2Passports 1Dream booked). However, if you're curious and want to check it off the bucket list, by all means, go for it. :)

    • @OnePackWanderers
      @OnePackWanderers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a great question. We DO include the cost of the visas in our budget. Everything is included - flights, health insurance, Covid tests, etc, etc. Even Tia’s hospital visit a few months ago in Thailand is included.
      So in reality, we are often spending much less per day. But all these big costs pull the average daily number up. In Europe for example, a third of our entire Europe budget went towards plane tickets from the US, and our Eurail Passes 😂

    Wow that was great. Can I ask when you went into Vietnam the first time what did you do about your Outbound ticket? I'm finding in planning our trip around Asia (that we don't want to plan lol) that this is stressing me out. We don't want to have to decide where we are going next. Would love to hear how you deal with this. Thanks 😊

      I concur - I have never seen any inquiry about an outbound ticket in the formalities that I've completed. That said, when filling out the evisa form, you must state where you will be exiting. In my case, they didn't seem to care. I put Hanoi on my first evisa and "left" via Lao Bao.

We are planning to do this in a weeks time. Also do you need any passport size photos? Thanks 😊 nice video guys x

    • @OnePackWanderers
      @OnePackWanderers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! For returning to Vietnam, you just need a valid e-visa. We’d recommend applying for it ASAP, if you haven’t already. Also make sure the point of entry is correct (for example Lao Bao).
      To enter Laos you will need a passport picture and $40 per person in cash for the visa on arrival fee.
      All this applies to people with US passports.
