    Pattern: Curly
    Curl Type: 2c/3a
    Porosity: Medium
    Texture: Medium
    Density: Thick
    Scalp Moisture: Oily
My scalp is horrendous but my hair looks great. Lush, long, curls that women love.
But I'm always flaking on my clothes and dear god the gunk under my nails if I itch my scalp... -_-
I know how to look after my hair just fine. I brush and wash it once a week, bushing before washing it. Using Sulphate and Silicone free shampoo and conditioner and maintain it during the week with a refreshing spray. Makes my hair look great.
But my scalp... I've no idea how to deal with it. It was the same before I leaned how to look after my hair.
I Used to brush daily and wash 3 a week with Tresemme products and wonder why it was a frizzy mess. Now my hair looks great but my scalp is still just as nasty.
Doesn't help that I only like wearing dark clothes and I constantly have to brush off the flakes.

I'm 18 and I've have shoulder length hair since I was 14, these videos have really helped me learn to take care of my hair as opposed to my normal routine basically all of my earlier teen years; that was pretty much using Axe shampoo once a week and brushing it slightly, but never detangling or conditioning it. My hair was always course and wiry, and lacked any volume whatsoever. Now I use charcoal organic shampoo and conditioner, and I actually use a conditioning and detangling spray in the mornings, I also never brush wet hair anymore, and I found a great salon in a town nearby ran by a nice lady who is amazing at styling and grooming my hair when its time for a trim. Anyways, thanks Trav for being a great advisor for men with long hair, young and old.

Dude, your channel is more informative yet easier to understand than any woman’s channel I’ve found! Turns out I have 2b, medium porosity, medium density hair and I’m pretty sure a dry scalp. It can get greasy after 2-3 days without washing but I think that’s just my glands overproducing to compensate. My shaft and ends are dryer but I do all the things you listed (only wash the scalp and condition middle to ends) and sleeping with a hair bonnet has helped with that substantially as well. Thankfully I’ve gotten better at managing it through the years.
Thank you for all of the tips and advice! I think it’s great that you gear your channel towards men but hair is hair and it’s good information for everyone :)

up until my early 30s, I had type 1 hair. One day, my stylist and I decided to go with a mid-length cut for a little change. As she began cutting my hair, she leaned into my ear and said "umm... I didn't know you had curly hair." I told her I don't. Well, much to our surprise, by the time she was done cutting it, it had curled up to the point of large bouncy curls and much shorter that we had expected. It still looked good and it was a lot of fun letting it grow back out with my new curls. My hair, now back to shoulder length, is much wavier than before.

Didn't watch the video but am skimming through the guide. I second the thing with no sulfates in shampoo when you have a dry, or at least sensitive scalp. Also no alcohol. My scalp used to get flaky and itchy after one to two days with most shampoos, but it doesn't when washed with sulfate- and alcohol-free shampoos.

Okay, I normally don't comment on videos, but I feel like this one deserves all my attention, because you are doing an amazing job, Trav!
From one creator to another, I really like the way you color grade and compose your videos! From one teacher to another, you are doing an amazing job in simplifying all the information! This is one of the hardest things to do, regardless the domain and there aren't many people that can successfully achieve that, especially in a 20 min video. You stayed on point and got my attention even though I kind of got the general idea of the video and got the info on my hair type. I just couldn't stop the video, even though it's 4:30 AM.
And from one doctor to a fellow colleague that actually cares about other people's healthy lifestyle, I admire that you support all of your videos with a lot of research and that you quote from actual studies. I wish my teachers in med school would've done the same research as you did...
Yeah, I'm a young dentist and a professional photographer and amateur astrophotographer that happens to pursue his creative career at the moment and I find myself teaching a photography course (for both doctors and creators) and I wanted to write you this feedack and give you a little part of my background because I actually know that proper research is indeed hardwork and I usually tell my students about awesome creators like you and I encourage them to share their view, research and experience with all of us, because the world needs a little push nowadays to get things done. And the more inspirational pillars we have in our fields of interest, the more we all get to enjoy life and what it has to offer.
If you actually read the whole message, Trav, I wanted to tell you that I just passed the awkward stage and I can't wait to build up my TH-cam channel and give a proper feedback to all of your awesome work!
    Keep it up!
    P. S.: The PDF you've put out for free... keeps me motivated when I remember how much hardwork and equipment money I've put out for free as a photographer in the past 8 years... and it also prooves that you can't put a price on passion and dedication.

Hey I'm new to the channel, just wanted the thank you for all these videos. They're super helpful as I've been growing my hair out for quite a while now, starting from basically a skin fade back and sides. Even though I know it's gonna take a while and I'm pretty comfortable with it, it's refreshing to watch your videos and helps renew interest in hair care.
This video in particular was enlightening because I knew I had wavy hair but I hadn't fathomed how complex hair types can be. Keep up the great work man.

I have difficulty figuring out how curly my hair is, as it gets longer it gets curlier, it starts off at around a 2c, then it gets to somewhere between a 3a or 3b, and as it gets longer the curls tighten, they tend to be the tightest in the back, I haven't had my hair reach much length, but in the back the curls would occasionally reach a 3c curl depending on how dry my hair was and how humid it was.
(Also when the back would get like that it was about 2.5 inches long, while the hair up above is about 5-6 inches now, and will go from 2c to 3b.) My hair confuses me.
At the very least as it gets longer they start to become more uniform, of course I've never grew my hair out too long (I'm trying to though) so I don't know just how curly they will get.

Dude. A video without bullshit, straight up science and facts and no shady influencer motive whateverthefuck? And also? At 18:10 , someone that doesn't just say "lol just wash your hair less if it's too oily", but ACTUALLY acknowledges the people that are NOT overwashing it and want advice for THAT.
Honestly man? This video is almost unreal for todays standards where every influencer is just some dishonest schmuck parroting shit. You seem actually genuine with real information and cover full topics. (Looking at the overwashing thing is the best example because I swear nobody covers it further and just says "well lol gotta be overwashing thanks bye". I get that it's obviously valid, but nobody ever talks about the people that are without a doubt not overwashing and matter of fact experiment with less washing for months to see if and what changes)
I must say I'm still confused though because I feel like for many points I'm both, dry AND oily. Which to me indicates I'm reading something about my body wrong, but I don't know what and how to fix it. You said your face gives good indication if your scalp is dry or oily. What does it mean if my face tends to be on the dry side, but gets oily insanely fast? Lotion or no lotion, my face half a day later is like the surface of a freshly oiled pan and Gordon Ramsey is ready to cook the perfect steak (idk why I went that far but I did). I get a lot of white flakes very shortly after shampooing. I do not use conditioner (is that really it? is conditioner 100% as necessary as shampoo?). I have gone with experiments where I went as far as to only shampoo my hair once a week for a couple months. Absolutely nothing changed other than me feeling very oily, dirty and miserable. My hair gets what I think is unpresentable for the public after 2 nights. Specifically nights because I feel like staying awake 24 hours my hair is not nearly as bad as if I had slept instead. Could be complete delusion, but I'm 36 years old and I have had these hair problems as long as I can think and the things I HAVE tried, I did so for a longer period of time to confirm things and frankly I have no fucking idea what to do. I can't even count the amount of different shampoos I had as well as the different kind of them as far as ingredients go. Idk if maybe I have some kind of genetic situation up there that would need a medical approach, because that's the thing I didn't do yet, but at the same time I feel like if it's just a combination of dry and oily and some itching and there's no like blood or wounds or anything than surely a normal fitting product should be sufficient? Maybe I just want it to be. Is it maybe me not using conditioner? I know so many people that just use shampoo, in fact I can count the amount of people I know on one hand that use conditioner. I got the impression from your video that regardless of scalp and hair type, everyone should use a shampoo and conditioner. The products change for each type, but any type should use both of them? Man I just wanna live in peace with my hair and not feel and look like I didn't wash my head for a year after just a day or two.
If anyone can relate to any of my nonsense and/or anyone got some advice to share, just shoot. If you want to give advice but need more info then I'm more than happy to provide that.
Regardless, thank you for the great educational video, Trav. Sadly this video is from 2020 and I didn't find it sooner, but man this should be the golden standard for a video of this purpose. Absolutely amazing.
    Have a good one.
