I made this video a few years ago while I was still pretty new to TH-cam. It’s long winded. Sometimes I consider making a version half as long with the same main points. Here’s the condensed version in writing if you don’t want to sit for twenty minutes.
    1. A one length buzzed haircut is “round” meaning all one length. This only looks good for a short while but once the hair is long enough to stick out, bend, and move, it should be cut a little more square to avoid an awkward phase.
    2. Once you’ve got a square haircut if you continue growing the top and tapering the bottom you eventually end up with a bowl cut. Stop tapering the bottom and let it all lay back.
    3. If you have an undercut it might make your hair easier to live with in the short term but will cause problems in the long term as you grow it out. Once the sides are long enough to lay back it might be a better choice to lose length on top and get rid of the undercut so that the hair can all grow together in a more versatile shape- you’ll have less awkward hair this way.
    4. When everything is long enough to flow back it should be very easy to live with and should always look relatively styled as long as it has a good shape to it (don’t visit the cheapest barber you can find or a fade specialist who dreads doing scissor cuts, find someone who does these cuts). The most frequent thing you’ll likely need is trimming the back as it’ll feel like you have a mullet eventually. If you’re into the mullet then leave it alone.
    5. You’ve been sweeping your hair back for a year. Now your hair is long.

Amazing, I already did this kind of process with my hair. That is my second time letting it grow and I have to say that any man who is letting it grow will watch the entire video, because that is that kind of subject people are interested in

as a guy who grew his hair out since c19 this is good information. my hair is waist line now it's almost the max length. I've had my hair long enough to put in my pant pockets before.
the first time i grew it out i did the undercut thing to start

This is literally EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for for MONTHS! I’ve read so many articles, watched so many “how to grow your hair out” videos and even been to multiple stylists and none of it came close to this level of detail and articulation. My god, why is this not explained in every “how to” article?? Thanks so much for posting this and how to I get you as my stylist asap?? 😂 I’m saving this video and showing it to my next stylist so they can understand 🙏

I’m a non-professional that is growing hair out and just wanted to express thanks. This video was super digestible between the presentation structure, the whiteboard, and the example photos. I feel like I learned a lot but was never overwhelmed, never was left with an identified problem and no solution, and now I have a great resource to come back to as I hit those little stumbling blocks you mentioned and remember this video. Thank you!

I’m 33 and All my life I’ve been trying to grow long hair. I’ve always just buzzed it after a certain point because of the “awkward” stage, I just couldn’t handle that stage lol. My own hair growth success, I myself followed this daily regimen:
Take morning sunshine every day for essential vitamin D. Consume veggies of various colors. Using paraben-free and fragrance free shampoo and massaging twice a week with hair oil from litttleextra's cooconion. Important to remember that hair growth is affected by overall health as well as circulation and diet.

    • @Raao1
      @Raao1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Vitamin D absorbed through the skin is very little, and you need hours of exposure for the whole body. Look up the studies.
Better way to get it is to supplement Vit D3 in big dosages

I used to have long hairs and my awkward phase lasted for about 6 months (with various stages of awkwardness) but as soon as they reached around my shoulders, it looked glorious to be honest. Not always the best advice though if you're wanting to tie it up like a bun as you'll have the length on top but the shorter hair at back if your neck won't reach to tie with the rest. So it's best letting it all grow out equally and just trim dead ends if needed

The last tip is definitely the most important. Check if the barber actually knows how to do the hairstyle you want. I went to a barber for quite some time and I was very happy until I decided to grow my hair out. I said to him that I want to grow out my hair and that I just want the edges to get cleaned up. I ended up with an undercut and lost like 2 months of progress growing out the sides and even had to get another haircut to shorten my top hair because I looked like a clown a couple of weeks later. So not checking cost me like 3-4 months in total...

    • @andrewdoeshair

Whatever the client wants, really. But also whatever the specific head calls for- whatever is suitable. You can usually see a difference between the texture/density of the beard hair and the head hair, and once that head hair gets long enough to tuck behind the ear you can kinda treat the beard hair however you want- taper it, square it, leave it wispy, whatever the look calls for. There’s really no wrong answer. If you were to check out my Instagram account you’ll find sideburns treated in lots of different ways beneath longer sides, maybe it could inspire some ideas for your own hair

I look like a bum with a mullet, but I just kinda squeeze some of it together and tuck it under my shirt or something. It looks way less bummy, but It’ll also probably look weird if you’re not wearing something over the shirt.

So many videos about the "awkward phase" when it isn't awkward its just growing. If you're growing it out, let it grow and embrace the different stages. What do you think women do when they grow from short to long? They're certainly not making videos like this.

Thank you for your work. I got a haircut recently because my long hair needed some care. My barber however has no idea how to do men's hairstyles so I ended up looking hideous. I'm surprised how unskilled some barbers are and how well you know your stuff.

I’m 11 months into growing my hair from a buzz with no haircuts. Still very awkward, but I figure if I made it this far, what’s another 4 or 5 months. Once I’m able to pull it all up in a few months, smooth sailing. But I wish I would have seen this video about 7 months ago 😂

I feel you. I'm at the point where the hair at the back curls out and the hair in the front wants to cover my face. I've been wearing it up in a bandana.
I can almost tie it up, but it's not long enough to stay up. Just a bit longer!

Very informative, Andrew! Detailed explanation yet great work. I’m planning to grow my hair during winter months yet I needed a proper guidance. Then, your video showed up. Many thanks and keep up the great work
Do you recommend growing long hair during winter months?
I like to grow long hair during summer too but I workout a lot so my hair gets sweaty. Short to bald hair makes my cold showering process easy. Less water waste.
    What do you think?
