Right here baby! I am so happy with patience, diligence, & did I mention patience?! 😍 I started learning these techniques a couple years ago, & am loving my hair more than ever! thanks to these tips
The curly hair journey really is a marathon and not a sprint! I've been wearing my natural curls for around 2 years after straightening the poor things to death for over a decade, and I'm still learning the best products and ways to look after and nourish them. Thank you so much for tip number 3, I had no idea how much heat my hair was dealing with at bedtime 😱 xxx
Thank you for this. I had so much trouble growing up with thick curly hair, got made fun of constantly because I didn't know how to care for it. It's so nice to hear all the love for curly hair. And this stuff helps people who have a different hair texture than their parents! ❤️
My mom has perfectly straight hair, and did not know why my hair was always big and poofy. She would brush it, and then put the VO5 hairdressing ointment on it 🤮 I had no idea I had 3A-2C hair until a couple of years ago.
@missyface5 I have curly And wavy hair to its hard to keep it clean but it feels good to wavy amd curly I like how it looks although I domt get compliments from people but it's whatever if u have hair like be happy
It’s only taken me 30 years to embrace my naturally wavy/curly 2c/3a hair! Air dry cream has really leveled up my hair game. Thank you, Jonathan, for showing us it’s ok to love our frizz! You always make me smile 🙂
You are literally the only person in this world that makes me appreciate and actually love my curly hair and be proud to have it. I used to chemically straighten it for over 15 years and recently just stopped. So trying to get my hair all back to natural. Thank you for all your amazing tips and talking so highly of curly hair!!❤
Number 3! My grandmother was one of those who ‘had her hair done’ several times a month, but she maintained her do with a head scarf and silk pillow cases. She travelled/visited everywhere with her own pillow. Not for her neck. Not for hygiene. For her hair. ❤️❤️ I miss her 😊
I adore how you turn something like frizz into something beautiful. I have natural waves and had one of the best hair days of my life this weekend. I said, "JVN would be so proud to see this!" I even took a selfie! You keep that gorgeous soul shining! ☀️
Thank you for being an inspiration. I live in the Philippines and curly hair is not a norm here and even deemed as ugly. But watching your videos help me learn more and to accept the curls that I have ❤️❤️❤️
I’m Filipino too, only one with curly hair in the whole family. I’ve learned to accept my long curls are bad ass even tho the other guys in my family don’t have hair longer then a few inches.
Jonathan is such a sunshine of a human being and I love them so much for spreading such positivity and self love 💕 I’ve been frustrated with my part-wavy-part-straight-part-curly hair and I needed that reminder to love my hair 🥰
Your JVN products are exactly what I've wanted for my thick, wavy hair. Never like silicones and absolutely hated polyquats, but with JVN my hair feels so soft and looks so shiny, and my scalp is happy too. My waves have never looked so good and are actually becoming curlier. I just used the hair mask sample two days ago and actually achieved root curl! Thank you for creating these products and for this video. mwah!
Menopause changed my slightly wavy hair to soft ringlets. It’s been a journey to do and embrace this new texture. Thank you for this video! Every lesson makes a difference!
I started going natural 3 years ago now and boy is it a journey. But I love my hair texture and there's so much I can do with it. 🥰 I loved tip #2, it's all about styling, an retwisting/braiding at night to keep the style!
This video gives me life. Jonathan is such a wholesome human being. Loving my curly hair has been a journey as all the woman in my family have always pushed for chemically straightening their hair and just never embraced their curls. I love seeing videos like this.
going natural is definitely a journey. I stopped using heat products on my hair 3 years ago, and I'm still learning how to set my hair properly, but learning a bit more every day! Thanks so much JVN
I love the Queer Eye anecdote! I remember a few years ago seeing that beachy wave/flat iron curls were becoming a norm in tv exactly because it was easier to hide “changes” between shots than with stick straight hair that was less forgiving when something was out of place.
Thanks so much, Jonathan, for normalizing all types of curly hair! It’s about time that society starts a becoming more accepting of curly hair, as well!
as a person who is trying to grow out their fried damaged hair to get my waves/curls back I loved this video, great tips! No matter what I do to my mids and ends right now my hair won't curl well because it is so, so fried. But my roots do curl nicely so one day I'll get back to it. (btw I love how you include us, wavy folks! my hair is a 2B-3A depending on the weather)
Thank you so much for this. When I was a kid, I was called “tornado head” because of my frizzy untamed waves and curls. Now as an adult, I’m embracing the gorgeous texture and shape of my hair. These are fantastic tips! Thank you @jvn 🥰
Everyone always underestimates the love our curly hair needs! I've actually NEVER used a hair mask but I'm going to shop for one now! Thank you as always JVN!
Loving the nurture range for my curls. My curls prefer a cream followed by gel and I use a Denman brush to create ringlets, which I break up when dry. I love the fragrance, subtle and natural. I hate strong artificial smells in products. I’m autistic and have sensory differences. I like JVN because it’s subtly fruity.
I used to hate my curls when I was younger and would flat iron every day. It has been a few years now that I try to care for them properly and I stil feel like a newbe. Your videos really help me love my curls more and more, thank you!
I love my hair while being sick last year and thankfully my hair growing back !!!! And it’s so curly I love it and your content it’s just what I need! It’s perfection ! Ty!!!!!
I really appreciate the tips!!! I’ve always had poker straight hair until literally 2 weeks ago when my hair suddenly became curly! Im 41 years young and have recently gone through some hardcore hormonal changes and I believe this is why my hair is curly. It’s been rough health-wise, but I’m absolutely loving my curly hair!! I just need to properly learn how to care for it, and now I know thanks to you, Jonathan!! 🙏🏼😘💐
Yahoo for us curly wurly people, love your tips,my hair is just like yours, same texture and style.I fought me hair for a long time, now I embrace it 😊💛
Hello JVN! Question for a future video: What are your thoughts and recommendations for clarifying shampoos/treatments to get rid of build up so hair is more receptive to good, nutrient-dense products? Thank you for your never-ending advice and positivity! 💕
Love this video. Love all these tips! My hair stopped looking horrible upon waking when I switched to satin pillow cases. I wake with fluff and go hair! Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us!
I am trying so hard to embrace my natural curls. I began getting curl and movement in my tresses after my daughter was born (34 years ago), and they have become more pronounced after menopause! (eek) Love you, JVN!
Guurl, this is the exact video I needed in my life right now! Having covid last year caused me to lose about half my hair and turned the hair I had left all crazy wavy/curly. Thought it was a fluke until I saw the new hair that was growing back was also growing back in full curl/wavy mode! Like my hair woke up one day and decided to live its best life 😆. I had bone straight hair before so these new waves got me confused AF. Soooo glad I at least have a place to start now to make it less of a hot mess LOL
JVN... I think this might be the best vid for curly hair guys that I've ever seen. I've learned a few things over the course of my journey and I'm STILL learning. All of these tips are awesome, but I think #8 is the best. When I finally figured that one out it was a huge game-changer for me. Thanks for the great advice!!
I would love to see your hair routine from wet to dry! our hair textures are very similar so im interested to see how your routine is different from mine and learn!
Ok…obsessed, JVN. My hair is a bit like your texture with bleach damage and a ton more volume lol….the perfect storm. Yours is gorgeous, and I WILL be exploring your product line. Thank you for showing some curl love! It can be hard to love some days, but when they behave, they are delicious.
Day 3 and day 4 are my perfect curl days!!! I swear when i just condition my hair for a few days, my curls are so pretty and i love them but day 1 is always a blah day for me. Day 2 is ok but day 3 or 4 is my perfect hair day!!
Finally giving curly hair the spotlight it deserves! So annoyed being asked all my life "why don't you straighten your hair?" Because my curls are prettier, even if they are a lil wild! The air dry cream is ok and smells amazing but I don't like the hard texture or next day curls with it. I love "CURLS creme brule" you can get at target/walmart, orange bottle.
Thank you for reminding me to love my curls! I hate them sometimes bc they aren’t the perfect curls you see on tv. It’s nice to have someone acknowledge that all natural curly hair types are beautiful. 💜💕
I have to tell you how much I enjoyed this video. 🤗This is the first time seeing you and you are so informative and just FUN to watch. I am 51 years old (geez, when did THAT happen?) with thin, straight hair. I haven't colored or permed in at least 30 years but was convinced by my stylist to perm it for more volume. Today is Day 2 and I'm kinda freaking out with these "soft, loose spiral" curls. Really appreciate your breakdown of applying products and praying I love it and don't have frizz once I can wash & style it.
I have learned so much about good hair care from you! Your vids are so much fun and I like what you said about being fortunate enough to have hair to work with. I'm in healthcare and so many of my patients have been through chemo. ❤ you!
I always assumed my hair type is straight, but when I started using JVN air-dry cream, I noticed it has a little bit of texture, so I started learning about wavy/curly hairs and what to do with it, tried CG method today for the first time and had beautiful waves and even few curls. So I think I really have to re-learn everything I know about my hair. :D Going to the eshop for conditioning mist and deep moisture mask right now. :) Also I have to get a bonnet. I don't want to damage my new gorgeous hair. Thank you for all the tips.
Tip 8 is by far my favourite!! I do that far too often! thank you so much for your wonderful message!! I will remember your tip and always carry my unruly curls with pride! Xoxox
TIL I have the same curl texture as JVN. 🥰 This is one of the best, simplest, well explained videos on curl protection I’ve ever seen on these internets. TY!
I too was a bigger kid with curly hair who had no idea what to do with and was terrified of being perceived. You made me cry with this video! Thank you for sharing ❤️
Thank you so much! My little brother (11) decided a couple years ago he wanted to grow his hair out and we realized he has curly hair. I dont have curly hair, our parents don’t have curly hair. So now I’m researching like crazy on how to care for it. I straightened it once to see how long it was and it’s past his shoulders.
I love you Jonathan! You are the cutest! I have very long, wavy, somewhat curly hair (not consistent as it's def wavy and some strands are coils). However I am VERY low maintenance! What can a "lazy" LOL, person do to keep their locks looking good? Maybe there's an idea for a video? Thank you! 🙏
my ginger straight haired dad used to turn the car around back home to make my siblings and i comb our hair straight because his teacher admonished him over messy hair back in the 1940's. but he made us with my micronesian mother. my oldest brother flat irons his hair every day. middle brother shaves it off. im in my thirties still trying to figure out how to let what our mom gave us flourish. (dad gave me some red that shines in the sun, i'm not choosing sides here. i want both.) but there is so much information i find it overwhelming, thank you for this video.
Such a sweet video !!! One thing I will start doing for my daughter who has curly hair is putting a light bun over night. and then will try other tips as well !
I’m a Puerto Rican with a mixed background. My moms an Afro-Puerto Rican and my dad is a more indigenous and European Puerto Rican. I was born with pin straight black hair. But as puberty started my moms genes kicked in and my hair got super curly then as I went into adulthood it went wavy/curly. So I have multiple textured hair. I really didn’t know what to do with it AT ALL. Since the rest of my siblings have my moms 4a hair. I had no one to really teach me lol. It was almost to my waist. Unfortunately due to my frustration I cut it all off. But after seeing this video I’ve decided to grow it back out! I’m excited for the journey ☺️.
Yes Queen!!! This! I too am a curly hair diva, 2c-3b and F-I-N-E! I do all of the things you just recommended. I’m 51 and have been learning and doing a lot of years now. Not too long ago I went short. Think Julia Garner (super light ash-neutral blonde too) and the one thing that is so hard, The nighttime friction! I have pillowcases and bonnets but it is not the same as when I could pineapple. I just try my best. I have multiple autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue and pain come with that so am in bed a lot. Ugh, any extra tips for that? Love you so much!!
This is a perfect line up of tips for curly hair. My mother taught me these (except for the sulfate tip, i had to learn that from my hairdresser bff) as a kiddo who had long curly hair and now I'm trying to break the straight iron habit of my own daughter while I teach her how to take care of her long curly hair. Especially the one about wearing a cap to bed, I find using my man's oldest and softest t-shirts and wrapping them tightly around my hair while I sleep works so well, I do this on wash days.
When I listened to Jonathan about how to do my thinner hair, both in cut and care, I was blown away by his advice! So, if you have CURLY HAIR or any other kind, I would say to search for one of HIS videos. Also, I feel certain now what products I should be using.
Thank you for such great info. My mom had pin straight hair, dad had fine, soft curls. So I spent my life in the middle with long, slightly waves hair. But then I turned 50, and surprise, frizzy curls! I never even knew that could happen lol.
Today, I learned I have been doing everything wrong to my hair, for the last 20+ yrs. No wonder it's frizzy, dry and thinning out. My hair is 2a/2b (can't be 100% sure). I learned the hairdryer is killing my scalp without a diffuser, maybe that will help cut down the oil, as well. Thank you for being helpful!
Curly girl here, I sleep with my hair up, have since my late teens, when I started to embrace my natural curl. Before heading to bed, I separate my hair on the back side & loosely pile hair up into a couple claw clips on top of my head (high up, so it does not affect my comfort while sleeping.) Sometimes I’ll do a silk scrunchie, but I find I get a better curl shape/ look the next day, if I do the clips.
Jvn… always loved you on queer eye… I’m a 38 year old straight man.. I’m half Japanese and I have the exact same curl you have in this video… I found a solid trick back in the day to actually get rid of frizz and have almost 0 crunch… I use a curl cream and a curl tonic and then I hit it with the mouse… put it up in a towel while I shave.. then when it’s close to dry I hit it with wait…. LUBE!!! That’s right water based lube… it’s light weight and super moisturizing.. I heard Kim k did it for the wet look and I was like this is a no brainer… keep up the great content
Your amazing this was great! Struggling with mixed texture, long wavy hair. Really appreciate the tips boo. PS I dressed as you last Halloween and our hair was fire 🔥 👌.
I love you Johnathan !!! I just placed an order from your line. I Super appreciate that it's affordable but the products are quality. I cannot wait to use the instant recovery serum . I have 3c, fine , low porosity hair that is very very thirsty and I've been having a hard time finding good products that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. So I also got your deep hydration kit. I was even happier when I saw the free Halloween kit was included. It's a cute gift. Anywho, I just wanted to voice my appreciation for you as a person and for your line
Thanks bro, I'll be using some of these tips Although a couple I think are a bit too much for me personally, like that spray stuff you mentioned throughout the video Also shout out to think before you sleep for making me look into taking care of my hair, he brought me to look for this video
Where my curly hair 👑 at?! Check the description for more curly hair videos and products!
For tip 2 I couldn't understand what product you said. Could you put it here please?

@@NazriB?? What are you talking about?
An entire vid on hair porosity could be so interesting. It's so impactful and no one talks about it enough!
Yes!! I second this!
Third! 🙋🏻♀️ Note the lack of curly emoji 😭
Yeeess! I fourth this!
Yes! I could hydrate the crap out of my hair and it would be a puffball in ten mins after it dries because of my porosity. Goodbye hydration 😢
Porosity and protein! That would be so helpful!

I needed you 15 years ago. You’re the best JVN
Best video ever!! I absolutely love you! Everything about you! I have always hated my curls so glad to embrace them at 35
Professor van ness, you killed it! Again!! Love you!!! 💜
🧑🏫
I love you Jonathan! You are the cutest! I have very long, wavy, somewhat curly hair (not consistent as it's def wavy and some strands are coils). However I am VERY low maintenance! What can a "lazy" LOL, person do to keep their locks looking good? Maybe there's an idea for a video? Thank you! 🙏
I just started using JVN product's on my natural curly hair 🥰🥰🥰 you have changed my hair life!!!!! Thank you for amazing products!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
That last tip really hit home
New to long hair (it’s just about to my shoulder) and my hair is curly. I’m learning to embrace it. So I will try your tips
my ginger straight haired dad used to turn the car around back home to make my siblings and i comb our hair straight because his teacher admonished him over messy hair back in the 1940's. but he made us with my micronesian mother. my oldest brother flat irons his hair every day. middle brother shaves it off. im in my thirties still trying to figure out how to let what our mom gave us flourish.
This! I too am a curly hair diva, 2c-3b and
Where were you when I was growing up?! I could have saved 20+ years of dry, fluffy, sad hair. Thank you for your tips and positivity!
When I listened to Jonathan about how to do my thinner hair, both in cut and care, I was blown away by his advice! So, if you have CURLY HAIR or any other kind, I would say to search for one of HIS videos. Also, I feel certain now what products I should be using.
For the longest time, I thought the silk cap was just extra, but then I tried it! It is really essential!
I think I have to as well… silk pillowcase is great but I spin in my sleep and I wake up looking like a tree
the sound in tip 5 was SO accurate 😂😂😂 it makes me happy to know I do all of this🥺🥺🥺🥺 it does take time to learn your curls, but so worth it
Thank you for such great info. My mom had pin straight hair, dad had fine, soft curls. So I spent my life in the middle with long, slightly waves hair. But then I turned 50, and surprise, frizzy curls! I never even knew that could happen lol.
Thank you for this video. I just purchased ALL of your products and I am learning how to use them all with my curly hair.
More ted talks please! love these tips JVN! Happy 2023 everyone! :D
Thank you Jonathan..I love your passion, experience and knowledge of hair ! Bravo 👏! You keep me engaged.
Good morning Jonathan! Hope you have a wonderful day!
And you, Sarah!!
Thank you so much! I have literally the exact hair type as you and these tips are going revolutionary for me
And you’re beautiful too! Thank you for your positive tutorial, from one curly haired family to yours 💛
Thank you lifesaver Jonathan my hair is so curly now and I'm loving it!
loved this
I’m so thankful 🙏🏼 You’ve helped me so much with my curls! With your tips I finally wear them freely 💜♥️ We need to send you before and afters 😂
Love you JVM! My favorite of the awesome Fab5!!! Thanks for helping us curlies.
Your curls are gorgeous! I'll be trying all these on my 2C waves!!
I did not know the heat generated while sleeping was damaging to hair. Thank you!
Yes!!!

OMG!!! I just found your videos and you are a total curly hair genius!!!
Oooo JVN ….as a curly haired person…. I really appreciate your curly hair content
The silicone thing changed it for me!!! Omg thank u
Thanks bro, I'll be using some of these tips
Although a couple I think are a bit too much for me personally, like that spray stuff you mentioned throughout the video
Also shout out to think before you sleep for making me look into taking care of my hair, he brought me to look for this video
Thank you for the curly hair tips. I ordered a hair diffuser yesterday. Wish me luck!
