      I don’t give a damn about acceptance. like me or don’t like because of my race, I have bigger shit to deal with.

    Shawty didn’t explain it properly, colorism is discrimination of darker skin people, alot of light skin people were bullied bc they were light skin no one says it doesn’t happen but acting as if you have it harder than darker skinned people is crazy, it’s not the same.

    • @reformedgirlblogger
      @reformedgirlblogger 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Whose to say who has it harder? Also colorism originally meant it went in both directions, Alice walker the woman who coined the term said it herself

    • @Sue_me347
      @Sue_me347 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Here comes the dark skin people wanting the the struggle award. You can label it what you want but light skin people (especially men) get bullied, picked on etc all while dealing with the same racism and discrimination that dark skin people do. Ignorance is ignorance

  • @ramonnelson4750
    @ramonnelson4750 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    People don't think about the fact that light skinned people are always outnumbered when we go to any gathering of black people, so you always feel like you have to be on guard because we get scrutinized more, even by our own dark skinned family members.

    I’m light skinned and the worst thing for me is being called the n word derogatorily by white people and then being told I’m white and that I’m lying

  • @Aviendaspearsister

    This happens in every culture, colorism and discrimination. It irritates me when people try to shame black people like that’s the only race that does it.

      I was bullied for being light skinned. What's odd is that it's okay to be attracted to dark skin.G-d forbid one would admit to being attracted to light skinned men and women. Our trauma is valid too.

    • @worktodo4you
      @worktodo4you 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Me too. Out of 2 parents and 4 kids, I was the only one in the family who was lighter skinned. I can remember wanting to be darker so badly growing up because I thought it was so much more beautiful. I can remember trying to stay outside in the sun for as long as I could during the summers, thinking that I would finally get dark enough to be beautiful in the eyes of my family and others. I have finally accepted myself, but thinking back to those times hurts a bit still.

      @@Asereht6534 She missed the point. Y’all missed the point too. Drake will definitely benefit from texturism, featurism and colorism in society in comparison to an unambiguous, mono- racial, dark skinned black man because Drake looks closer to whiteness Drake would face discrimination , but let’s not act like white people don’t know the difference. Would Obama have become president? Is questionable Would Meghan Markle would have been able to marry a prince if she had typical Bantu features like dark skinned, kinky hair , flat wide nose, full lips and a prognathic (protruding) jaw? Let’s be honest.

      @@Orlanzepol123 I agree with your statement because I have been here a minute and have seen and experienced the other side of the argument in the work place. I was told a few times to my face by yts and others I quote " OH! Your not like the rest of them" it hit hard but, I had three mouths to feed so, there's that and that's that...💔 I understand I had to live with that but it put me on high alert cause I know deep down I wasn't any better or different from them and if they found any discrepancy in my work I was out the door...

    • @reformedgirlblogger

      @@Sue_me347 you’re the one arguing semantics. the point was that the term light skinned colloquially meant someone who happened to be born with light skin but has two “BLACK” parents. “Light skin” in black America never meant just any body that’s not dark…if you we’re biracial it was more than likely known and you were always viewed as such, separate from LIGHT SKIN people who did not have a parent of another race.

    Uh as someone who looks mixed but isn't I saw how the world tasted me and my siblings (with open arms everywhere). My cousins who were darker and my friends who were dark were constantly told they were ugly, monkeys, big nosed, bad hair etc. Even though I did website some hate from whites and from other blacks making din of my loose hair texture or the fact that I didn't look black enough, I also didn't ensure nearly as much as the others did. I can say is there were 1000 interactions in 3 I was confronted with my race in a negative way. For my cousins, if they had 1000 interactions 300 would be negative. So therebis a major difference. You can't compare the two.

    Agreed. I'm lightskinned and was faced with discrimination as a child. My peers swore up and down that I was biracial (black and asian) and was treated as such...apparently I wasn't black enough and didn't fit in and I am nowhere near biracial. However, when they would see my older brother and cousin, who are both darker...they would show me respect and all of a sudden I was accepted.
    So yes, though I understand that darkskinned people have struggles....so do lightskinned folks.
