Being dark skin as a woman is tough. You even have the darkest men bashing your same dark skin
M J love that someone pointed this out.
M J, really? My brother is white and he finds black women very attractive.
M J exactly
very true!
Florence Jean, believe it or not, African women have more chances of marriages than black American women. If you go to Europe and meet African women migrants, only then would you see huge, huge, huge differences between them and black American women. Meet them in person and then see how many are wearing engagement rings, how many are talking about their wedding plans. Meet them in African migrant community in Europe and then you will see what is so clearly wrong with the black American women who have made themselves undateable and unattractive. The African women with the darkest skin have no problems in attracting men of all races for dates and marriages. Their greatest secret is their feminity. It is how they project their feminity to men, how they conduct themselves and what messages they send out.

when that Bengali girl started crying, i cried too. i've been through colourism my entire life from the age of 6 to 19 and maybe it will continue. i was always told why r u not fair like ur mom, if u are dark atleast be pretty like ur sister, u are both fat and dark that is not good, u are so dark u should wear sunscreens, you would look pretty if ur skin wasnt so brown.. etc. it killed my self esteem so much i once even tried to scrape my skin with a blade hoping it would be white underneath :( now i realize i canr change my colour but i still sometimes have a breakdown when i get colourist remarks

I am so sorry you have felt this way and I truly hope things become better so that others never do. I am half Cherokee/half Irish, with the palest skin imaginable -- I always hated it growing up and wished I was tanned/brown like my family -- though it isn't the same, I just wanted to share that I also struggled with color and skin tone on the other side of spectrum. As someone who lacked pigment, I always found darker skin more beautiful -- I hope you too see just how beautiful and blessed you are. 💜

On paper, people normally say “Black is Beautiful” but in reality, the story is not always the same.
i'm glad you brought this up.

That's true😢
I feel like when people say that, they're trying to convince themselves sometimes. It's not enough to say it. We have to live it. And that's with everything.

I’m so thankful that I found this video. When I was young, I was so insecure with my pretty brown skin. I often wished my skin would magically become white when I become older. I saw no one talking about colorism so I thought I was crazy for being insecure about my skin color. When I watched this video for the first time when I was 15, I cried. This helped me learn more about the racist history colorism came from and showed me I was never alone. Thank you ❤️
People really don't face the truth.
It is preference, not racism.
Is it colorism and racism that women of all races prefer white men?
People love a comfortable lie that is so ridiculous.
The truth doesn't care how you feel.
People need to face uncomfortable truths.
This message speaks to me and gives me the confidence I’ve much been needing lately 😔
I was born in China, and due to being born in the south, I’m naturally a little darker than other east asians I’ve met and ones that I’ve seen portrayed in media, which are typically shown as being quite fair skinned. Because of that, I’ve been feeling insecure about myself but I’m slowly coming to realize my worth and how society doesn’t need to tell me how to look
(However, no matter how much I know my self worth, subconsciously I still feel like I’m letting others down)
Edit: Not trying to say that everyone born in the south of a country is automatically darker skin toned, since your skin is decided by your genetics. My main point is skin doesn’t matter when it comes to how much you are worth. 💕
I bet you are so pretty
You're not letting us down by being yourself! Your journey is encouraging and I pray you're in a much brighter place nowl
you wanna feel insecure for having dark skin?come to asia 😒
Funny thing is that the history white people have of colonialization, invasions, atrocities, slavery, and social discrimination in american society has absolutely nothing to do with why anybody hates white people. Let that sink in for a minute.

Western people only started thinking tan skin was beautiful like less than 100 years ago
They want their skin tanned ...like not too fair nd not too dark...it's the same way with height... 5'5-5'6 is considered petite and beautiful while the rest r too short or too tall... Strange way people think tho
In Easter culture fair skin is considered to be angelic/ a sign of wealth
I can totally relate..I remember when I was about 6 or something, some ladies used to tell my mom to apply some raw milk on my face...though my mother never did that..but soon after bullied from teachers, relatives, classmates I started using raw milk..but nothing happened...in class 8-9 I tried almost every home remedies to get a fairer skin tone because all my friends, my cousins have fairer skin tone...but ended up ruining my face with pimples, scars.. I was always told that being fair is equal to being beautiful..even I broke the mirror because I hated myself so much...but now I'm thankful for whatever I have... Every complexion is a gift from God ❤️
fair means beautiful. that's the actual definition. its in the wording. its pretty messed up that a lot of us were raised with these terms "fair skin", "good hair"; we have to look deeper than what's being presented to us.
As a dark skinned I felt each and every word , it all went straight through my heart❤️
I just remembered all the taunts and jokes made on my colour . The messages they shared at the end were just so comforting. I got tears🙂

I am a brown girl and I swear I am good looking than most other classmates of mine but still everyone always appreciate the fair ones . It's not like they never compliment me but they only do that for fishing likes example - the most fair one in my class would randomly start saying that "Ohh I am getting so dark" just to make us resure her that she deadass is still fair . I just hate this toxic mentality and don't worry I love myself and I know that I am a beautiful and who said your opinion matters to me?!
Fr?
I love being dark skin and love the way I look but I would be lying if I said I never felt some kind of way about others opinion. It’s a painful topic. I honestly don’t think it will ever be fixed but good luck 💖 in middle school red bone and light skin was in - high school dark skin was in - and now everyone wants a foreign or mixed chick. Colorism just changes who it loves over time but it’s never fixed.
Most annoying thing is your relatives who are picky and judgmental will say " you don't look like ur grandma/mom/sister" or "why are u not like pretty like ur sister, mom etc.
Because sometimes sister is just so much prettier and will be able to marry more rich family’s son and bring more money back to mom and dad. It’s a very straightforward Asian family business model. Daughter’s beauty will define her market value.
Yikes, that's horrible. Parents comparing their children ("why can't you be good in school like your sister?") are making those children so unhappy. And making remarks like that about ones look is even worse - and short-sighted, too.
"I've got my genetics and cheek-bones and eyes and skin from my parents, go complain to them!"

The weird part is everybody in this video is attractive
It just goes to show you there is NO logic or reason to racism. Those that hate and fear what's different don't care how beautiful you are inside or out. I pity those who wrap themselves in their shields of hate to protect them from their irrational fears; instead of opening their hearts and minds to get to know the many beautiful people and cultures of this world, even within their own countries. It honestly breaks my heart. I pray for healing for those who have been and continue to be hurt by such ignorance.
Yes, they are. Unfortunately they don't see themselves that way, because of racism.
Yeah that's what I was thinking too
Why is it “weird”?
How come it’s “weird”?
I am a Sri Lankan and was always asked why my skin was dark. I used to be embarrassed and lie that I went to the beach a lot and got sunburnt. I wish I could go back to my past self and tell her that she’d be ok and being brown was the best thing that ever happened to her. Don’t hide your culture and traditions, embrace them! Everyone is beautiful in their own ways.
It doesn't matter what colour your skin is. All you have to do is be friends with those who want to be your friend. Its very simple!
I swear this video is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen
Everyone says it doesn't matter how dark your skin looks but knowing or unknowingly they still perfer white skin over dark.... Been through this and still I am

As an Indian, it's really disheartening to see the amount of fairness creams being advertised in my country. It's like the 21st century but we still promote crap like 'fair skin' or 'gora nikhar'. My skin tone, as per Indian standards, is apparently considered fair (which is something of pride apparently). So when I started competitive swimming, I got more tanned. This became a major concern for my relatives and they would suggest ways to lighten my skin (It was so ridiculous). Thankfully my parents and grandma always told me to be proud of my skin so I could just brush them off. But there are so many kids who hate their skin colour. I sure hope this perception changes.
on the other hand, campaigns like #unfairandlovely is positively lovely to me
I'm Indian too, and my natural skin color is what a lot of people refer to as "gehua" or "wheatish." I remember that on so many instances, my relatives and friends used to come up to me and say "ah, you'd be so pretty if you were a little lighter!" Then they would go on to suggest "homemade" ways of lightening one's skin. I wonder why Indians still have this in-built mentality?
Anamika Mahesj certainly! I should have mentioned that but thank you for doing so. We should talk about more campaigns like that.
Kaveri Sharma IKR. It's infuriating. These standards give us self esteem issues without even knowing the damage they're doing. I would like to tell you that your skin colour is lovely and screw people who say otherwise :D
Anisha Srikar As is yours! Your know what gets me though? Matrimonial ads. "Looking for a fair and beautiful bride..." That sentence will give my an aneurysm one day.

For me, facials features are a big factor. Color not much, but skin has to be healthy and glowing. So now if you ask me, which one you will choose if you are given a choice between dark skin and white skin person. I would go for a kind person.
This kind of restored my faith in humanity, seeing that at least some poeple are capable of accepting themselves for who they are. Respect
My dark skinned 6 year old son came home crying the other day & said "mom I want to change my skin colour." I asked him why? He said "a girl told about me "yuck I hate his skin colour! He's so black!" That was so hurting to hear! Poor child! Even children can be so rude & racist?!
Yes, it's sad, but true. I am white myself, but a few years ago I used to walk my younger sister to her classroom, and in line I overheard 3 white little girls talking. They said: "I don't know if I should trust her, because she's black." And the other girls agreed. I was so utterly shocked that I still remember it to this day, and that was years ago. But you cannot blame the children, racism doesn't come naturally, blame their parents.
Sena/GachaStudio yes true the parents must be talking such things in front of the kids.
Family let that puberty hit that girl in a lil bit. She ain't gone feel like that then. Believe me she gonna have some dark meat b4 the curtains close.
Little children 6 and under form a lot of their skin color prejudices from what they hear at home. If a child doesn't like someone it's usually because they're mean, they're annoying, they won't share, or maybe because their hygiene isn't that good. Not because their skin color isn't the same.
Black is beauty, and those who think white is superior to black, just shows how ignorant they are because at least 60% of white people 's DNA is from Africa, so being black should make u feel proud and original. Anyway whiteness of the face isn't needed it's that of the heart pliz teach your kids don't give them a chance to resent their color and origin. Their color isn't a limitation

I'm am a darker Vietnamese which means i am of a "poorer class, and I work in the fields" I always wanted paler skin and I still do, but i feel better having darker skin in a sense
TeaKat Dark skin Is seen as undesirable In many places but we all can change that narrative by no longer buying Into that lie and embracing our own beauty.
Could not relate any more!! I'm Chinese adopted to white parents in a predominantly white neighbourhood. Growing up, I wanted to be white. I wanted to have blue eyes, with either blonde, black or brown hair. Now, I'm slowly learning to accept myself. It's still a work in progress, but I'm getting there.
ellie ross I think oriental people are beautiful! I'm Indian and feel the same you do. But we are who we are and theres nothing wrong with that!
"You want to be a singer? Your face is too black." A friend of mine told me that when I was like 9 years old in front of a class presentation. Though he was young too, and we're still friends, those words stuck with me. I'm now 32, and I quickly realized how much words like that really have an impact on one's confidence.
You're very handsome Luke. 🤗💖
That's funny since the music industry is basically run by black people

I came to this video, I'm Asian and a Filipina. Here in the Philippines having fair skin is a big deal, you are pressured to get your skin whiter because they find it attractive. But being morena is the most attractive for me, and I'm proud of myself that I'm one of those morena's! Flaunt yourself of whatever skin you had because it makes u the most beautiful way around.
In every race, there are attractive people.
I'm really happy they talked about discrimination against dark skinned people who are not just black.
2:19 shes right, I'm still hearing "jokes" like that now. Especially from people that are my race, they think it's okay because they're both black but no. They're the reason why some white people think its okay to make "jokes" like that, and always start off with "well my black friends said".
Stop Asking For My Name fr tho and I feel like when it's your own race that's even more of a slap to the face. For crying out loud if we can't stick together and support each other then what's the point anymore. I mean honestly what's up with that division.
Imani Mbibouth exactly, we are all that we have.
Stop Asking For My Name there is no such thing as black people
Victoria Wright I beg to differ. I'm black, im a person, most of my family is black, each and every one of them is a person, together we are people, black people.
Well, I am darker than all these people in the interview but guess what, I wish I was darker.

Wow this video is so eye opening and insightful ! I’m also happy that they included non blacks in this video about darkskin because darkskin isn’t exclusive to black people and colorism doesn’t only affect the black community I’m glad they show each races tribulations and experiences with colorist . And YT people/YT supremacy is very evil and they literally have people crying over the color they were born with and hurting themselves and making themselves nun well to be lighter .
I'm Filipino living in the Philippines, and in here if you have dark skin you are gonna get picked on, not by foreigners, but your fellow Filipinos. It's worse for kids.

Im i the only one who thinks dark skinned people are beautiful and their skin is just amazing?
Not the only one. When I was 10, I had a Nigerian best friend, while being in primary school in Central Europe. She was bullied by some of my classmates, called all sorts of things from chocolate, through potato, down to poop. I remember getting into quite a couple of skirmishes, because I thought it was hurtful and mean and got into fights on her behalf to make them stop. And all the time, secretly I really envied her, because I thought her skin color was soooooo beautiful! She was really dark, and had this ruddy undertone, and I was in love with her skin. And yes, I was wishing if only I had that.
Zdena Gabaľová i just dont get why some people dont accept others the way they are and that irritates me sooooo much
No you're not! They're all so amazing but it disgusts me how we have to build them up like this because of their skin tone. Everyone deserves confidence and to be complimented but our media today has made the world we live in one in which we have to reassure others that their skin colour is not a problem and that they're beautiful no matter what colour foundation they put on every morning or what shade of the rainbow their skin is. That is what disgusts me about the world.
+Zdena Gabaľová I had a best friend who's dad was Jamaican and mother was Irish- we were planning our dream holiday and when we pretend "booked" flights she turned to me and said, " but Jess I can't go on a plane" when I asked her why she said "because no one will want to sit next to me" when I asked her again why she said "because I'm black." This is inconceivable to me, we were 11 and she had the idea in her head that she couldn't fly in a plane because her skin was a different colour to mine.

I haven't finished watching this, but I've always felt dark skin is soooo beautiful. Ya'll are beautiful and anyone who says otherwise is jealous. :)

@@myworld4257 ofc, you're an exception
Im glad I don’t deal with it
I have seen this video so many times and it gets so familiar each time. My grandmother literally just asked me yesterday why I won't buy skin bleaching cream bc my neck is dark bc "you have a job now. You can afford to take care of yourself" taking care of myself meaning "bleach your skin"
I feel so lucky after hearing them speak. I am from from West Bengal, India and am naturally dark. My parents have never told me to use any kinds of bleaching creams. They did not even say anything like you are darker than the others or anything like that. They have always treated me as their child and not as their "dark child". I am so thankful to them. When I was younger like till about 8-9years old I did not even know racism existed as I never ever faced it. My friends have lighter skin than me but never in my life have they mistreated me. I hope everyone can live in a non racist surrounding just like me.🙏🙏
It's same for me too. I am from West Bengal and my parents never told me to do something to look more fair but one of my relatives says why I am getting tanned nowadays. If you see it's mostly the relatives and neighbors who always pass this kinds of statement
@@R_t-99 Even as a boy I faced this lol . I'm also from W.B. 17 years old but have made 0 girlfriend. I am actually not that dark kinda yellow but some of my friends use to make fun of me sometimes . So I always tried to stay away from them and now I have 0 close friends and I'm a loner and a Introvert. I don't even know what I'm gonna do with my life. My mind be racing but I don't even know what I'm chasing . I think there is only 2 other ways for boys to attract girls and it is
1> good face
2> great body
What you think ? I'm sure you are girl so you might be able to help me .
I personally believe that I have a good face so I'm working on my body rn . And for girls I can only suggest you girls to use make up and fairness creams. It's not gonna end unless our society stops thinking
White skin = beauty.
Nowadays people are changing they won't tell you that you look bad just because you have dark skin because no one would like to hurt someone's feeling. But deep down no matter what they say they will have that thinking of
White skin = beauty.
@@R_t-99 Those are ignorant racist people that think like that and is very brainwashed!
It's same for me too .. I didn't know what racism meant until I was 16 ....I'm from Bangladesh..by the way .. I think the white wash problem is a bit more severe in India than any Bangladesh.
When the girl said "I was the only black angel walking in the street" I kind of tear up at the same time I felt proud.
*woman or *lady
But yeah✨
I remembered some workmate who's from the same town as me talking abt having a job as a secretary at our hometown before working in our workplace. She's quite dark-skinned but pretty and I never minded her skin color because I'm not even fair-skinned to be with. I could feel her sarcasm when she said "Oh, actually before working here I've been a secretary to some small conpany. But well, I'm beautiful so I guess it's easier for me to get a job back then." She said that in front of me blatantly and I couldn't even give any word to counter. Quite weird for someone to become so confident to that extent since couple days before another co-worker told us a story of her crying because she's told as "dirty-skinned".
I'm not sharing this bc I'm being racist or something, I also have my own share of bad experiences as well, but the exact problem is not about color. It's how our environment is filled with judgement no matter what and how we are. People would always try to find faults in others to boost their own damaged esteem, cause they'd would think "Well people did that to me too, so It's fair for me to bully others". It's just simple like that.
These people in the interviews are actually good looking young people.
Don't understand why people would judge them based on skin colour when they're actually attractive healthy looking individuals. People are just jealous
That's what I said
being dark skinned would be awesome because your less prone to skin cancer so screw what society says (im white skinned)
also if humanity continues on our current path then dark skinned people will have the highest likelyness to survive because the planet will continue getting hotter

Are you guys kidding! You are very beautiful!!! Just the way you speak is very expressive! Of course, what matters is the internal content of a great human being: character! Sending you tons of blessings!
I’m a Hispanic woman with very light skin. When people look at me they don’t know that I’m 50% Native Central American, they think I’m white. My mother always fawned over me for my looks. She often showed me baby pictures of when I had blond streaks in my hair and my eyes were blue. She always treated me as prettier than my sister who has an olive complexion, jet black hair and dark brown eyes. As I got older I began to realize how cruel this was to my sister and I. My sister is beautiful, I never understood my moms attitude.

Not to devalue or invalidate their experiences or anything. But as a dark skin black woman, I really hate it when people expect me to be insecure abt being dark skin. Yes I've had comments abt my dark tone but I've always known that I'm beautiful. It just irritates me when ppl expect me to have a story abt how I wanted to bleach my skin when I've never felt this way.
elky360 I made a comment saying feeling bad about your skin color is a self esteem issue and people are coming for me saying I do not understand history, all while missing my point which is to love the skin you are in no matter how dark or light
People will come for you because you are dismissing the aspect and reality of colorism. The other comment is a separate issue from what you're speaking of. Sure for some it can be a self esteem issue but it is really a self-image issue which stems from colorism...please do not negate colorism as a REAL issue.
anointed2wait your comment is understandable, but I did not dismiss colorism as having an impact on how those people percieve themselves, however what I was saying is that it is more personal (hence 'self' was used), as if it wasn't all person who have faced 'colorism' would feel the same way
Judi Lynn thanks for understanding, it's not that I'm dismissing other people who feel that way, all I'm trying to say is that not all dark skin people feel that way, what this video failed to tell us is that some dark folks exude confidence and are proud of being dark and happy with the way they are
Sajola sash Oh I totally understood your point. :D
When we can finally look at ourself and others as human beings without judging what we look like on the outside, we will have evolved to understanding that what we are inside is who we really are.
You are all so pretty! It makes me angry that others have made you feel otherwise.
We are all different, but all the same. Different colours and cultures and races make the human kind diverse and interesting. I never see a colour when I look at people, I see what's inside them.
Please do not let anyone tell you that you are not beautiful, because you are! ❤
