I feel like when people say that, they're trying to convince themselves sometimes. It's not enough to say it. We have to live it. And that's with everything.
Everyone says it doesn't matter how dark your skin looks but knowing or unknowingly they still perfer white skin over dark.... Been through this and still I am
I think *most* people (not all) like someone who has a similar complexion and look as them. I personally like men with olive skin and dark hair and eyes because on a subconscious level I want my kids to look like me.
I have a very varied type and I find white People and black people similarly attractive and my most major celeb crushes are black 😂 I just find attractive people attractive and I honestly don't find super pale people attractive for some reason I prefer tan or dark skinned so yeah but thats just me
If a dark or dusky skinned person is born in India she or he will have to face colourism and racism till the day of dying.... Example- Me and millions of people .....
@@ntb1132 well tbh caste isn't actually involved in colourism. Eg- I have a friend who is from the top class of Brahmin but he is dark skinned ..people still do discriminate him saying kallu , he wasnt visible until the chalk powder fell on him..etc which is completely disgusting! Edit- well actually he is brown skinned..
I love my dark skin but I hate the way society try’s to make me feel like my skin color is a bad thing. 😂for me I got three kids, a good career, and a loving spouse. Meanwhile the others who hate on my dark skin are still looking for those things 😂😅love y’all and stay dark! 👊🏿
Most annoying thing is your relatives who are picky and judgmental will say " you don't look like ur grandma/mom/sister" or "why are u not like pretty like ur sister, mom etc.
Because sometimes sister is just so much prettier and will be able to marry more rich family’s son and bring more money back to mom and dad. It’s a very straightforward Asian family business model. Daughter’s beauty will define her market value.
Yikes, that's horrible. Parents comparing their children ("why can't you be good in school like your sister?") are making those children so unhappy. And making remarks like that about ones look is even worse - and short-sighted, too. "I've got my genetics and cheek-bones and eyes and skin from my parents, go complain to them!"
@@Edwinbraun20 I mean me and my cousin are almost the same looking. Just height and some other difference. But the lady just directly said we aren't pretty like our grandma" (I dont have a sis) It kinda hurts though
I’m so thankful that I found this video. When I was young, I was so insecure with my pretty brown skin. I often wished my skin would magically become white when I become older. I saw no one talking about colorism so I thought I was crazy for being insecure about my skin color. When I watched this video for the first time when I was 15, I cried. This helped me learn more about the racist history colorism came from and showed me I was never alone. Thank you ❤️
People really don't face the truth. It is preference, not racism. Is it colorism and racism that women of all races prefer white men? People love a comfortable lie that is so ridiculous. The truth doesn't care how you feel. People need to face uncomfortable truths.
Everyone with a birth defect be like: lol nope 😂 I needed several surgeries to survive my first months. Definitely not perfect and I'm not pretending otherwise.
I loved that they included people of different cultures... most of the time when people talk about black skin or racism they focus only on African-American...this shows that this is an issues faced amongst many cultures..it is nice to feel included in these discussions
I'm Blasian (Black and Korean). I always got talked abou because of my skin color. But my mom always told me "The darker the coal, the brighter it burns." She says it means that I stand out and I'm able to shine brighter than anyone else.

If you wanna feel insecure about dark skin, come to South Asia, I've been told to put fair and lovely on my face to make myself lighter, ever since I was small
In my country they rebrand fair and lovely as glow and lovely (it receive some critism from beauty community), I think my country finally realize you dont need to be "fair" to be lovely
@@sircookieknight8566 A lot of people bleach their skin because of two tones ect... not trying to be white like some people do, which is sad and very ignorant! Since people are waking up, maybe "The Holy Spirit is working across the world waking up these weak minded folks, making them see things clearer?"
This message speaks to me and gives me the confidence I’ve much been needing lately 😔 I was born in China, and due to being born in the south, I’m naturally a little darker than other east asians I’ve met and ones that I’ve seen portrayed in media, which are typically shown as being quite fair skinned. Because of that, I’ve been feeling insecure about myself but I’m slowly coming to realize my worth and how society doesn’t need to tell me how to look (However, no matter how much I know my self worth, subconsciously I still feel like I’m letting others down) Edit: Not trying to say that everyone born in the south of a country is automatically darker skin toned, since your skin is decided by your genetics. My main point is skin doesn’t matter when it comes to how much you are worth. 💕
In the Philippines, if you have dark skin, people will treat you fine (just fine lol) but if you have a light skin, they will treat you like a special person, and would also love to be friends with you. It's kinda sad tho
Funny thing is that the history white people have of colonialization, invasions, atrocities, slavery, and social discrimination in american society has absolutely nothing to do with why anybody hates white people. Let that sink in for a minute.
That is so wrong and rasict !! And you must realize that rasicm is a problem in all over the world . not all asians are rasict u will find the good and the bad everywhere also who exactly u mean in asia ?? asia is not only korea , japan and china....
I am Bengali too. Here even if you don't have any sort of good facial features but still if you are fair , congratulations you are beautiful . I am a brown girl and I swear I am good looking than most other classmates of mine but still everyone always appreciate the fair ones . It's not like they never compliment me but they only do that for fishing likes example - the most fair one in my class would randomly start saying that "Ohh I am getting so dark" just to make us resure her that she deadass is still fair . I just hate this toxic mentality and don't worry I love myself and I know that I am a beautiful and who said your opinion matters to me?!
My first grade teacher called me i" this dark thing!!" in anger. I wasc6 years old. It shaped the way I view myself. 15 years later I started university in South Africa. In the dining hall were Xhosa women who worked for the university serving us lunch. Assuming I didn't understand their language since I was foreign, one said to the other " what beautiful dark skin this child has". From that day I saw myself differently. I've since come to own how I feel about my blackness. I love it!! I've always thought light skinned people age badly anyway because of the sun. The darker the berry. ...and all that
They want their skin tanned ...like not too fair nd not too dark...it's the same way with height... 5'5-5'6 is considered petite and beautiful while the rest r too short or too tall... Strange way people think tho
I can totally relate..I remember when I was about 6 or something, some ladies used to tell my mom to apply some raw milk on my face...though my mother never did that..but soon after bullied from teachers, relatives, classmates I started using raw milk..but nothing happened...in class 8-9 I tried almost every home remedies to get a fairer skin tone because all my friends, my cousins have fairer skin tone...but ended up ruining my face with pimples, scars.. I was always told that being fair is equal to being beautiful..even I broke the mirror because I hated myself so much...but now I'm thankful for whatever I have... Every complexion is a gift from God ❤️
fair means beautiful. that's the actual definition. its in the wording. its pretty messed up that a lot of us were raised with these terms "fair skin", "good hair"; we have to look deeper than what's being presented to us.
I don't know why, but i've always been happy to be black. Even though people are always saying horrible offensive things to me, I never hated my skin colour. I just hope that people can be happy with themselves, no matter what anyone tells them. :)
the same here, I love me color and won't change it for the world.... you're beautiful just the way you are , heck we all are , yellow, white, blue , and even me as they will try to call me extra burned lol . one thing for is that God the creator Himself gave me loads of confidence , am blessed and I love my skin . love you as well and your skin . Sorry for long text
I hear you and I feel you all in this video. When I was in high school I used to ask dark skinned girls out on a date they used to say that I'm not light enough for them; When I ask light skinned and Brown Skinned girls out on a date they used to say that I'm not dark enough. In the Black community, we deal with Shadism. A Shadist is someone who is prejudice against someone base on shade: skin tone, a form of self-hatred within Black, Asian, Indian, and Latino communities who hate the skin tone they are in let for example light brown, medium brown, dark brown skin tones.Even in White Communities white people with fair skin hate other white people with dark tan skin. I'm a Brown skinned Black man who believe that women with yellow, tan, Brown, and dark skin are just as beautiful as white women too. To all the women who did me wrongly in the past, I forgive you. And I mean that from the heart too. True Beauty is not base on fair or light skin, true beauty comes from the heart; it is base on how you feel on the inside and different women with different skin colors are beautiful in their own ways. I hope someone read this positive message. I never mean to offend anyone. Forgive me if I did. Please don't flag or spam this message.
Larry Clegg i love it how you didn't just say that people of colour (yellow to black) that they are beautiful you said that everyone is beautiful white people and darker people. Lots of reapect to you
I feel so lucky after hearing them speak. I am from from West Bengal, India and am naturally dark. My parents have never told me to use any kinds of bleaching creams. They did not even say anything like you are darker than the others or anything like that. They have always treated me as their child and not as their "dark child". I am so thankful to them. When I was younger like till about 8-9years old I did not even know racism existed as I never ever faced it. My friends have lighter skin than me but never in my life have they mistreated me. I hope everyone can live in a non racist surrounding just like me.🙏🙏
It's same for me too. I am from West Bengal and my parents never told me to do something to look more fair but one of my relatives says why I am getting tanned nowadays. If you see it's mostly the relatives and neighbors who always pass this kinds of statement
@@R_t-99 Even as a boy I faced this lol . I'm also from W.B. 17 years old but have made 0 girlfriend. I am actually not that dark kinda yellow but some of my friends use to make fun of me sometimes . And for girls I can only suggest you girls to use make up and fairness creams. It's not gonna end unless our society stops thinking White skin = beauty.
Nowadays people are changing they won't tell you that you look bad just because you have dark skin because no one would like to hurt someone's feeling. But deep down no matter what they say they will have that thinking of White skin = beauty.
It's same for me too .. I didn't know what racism meant until I was 16 ....I'm from Bangladesh..by the way .. I think the white wash problem is a bit more severe in India than any Bangladesh.
My dark skinned 6 year old son came home crying the other day & said "mom I want to change my skin colour." I asked him why? He said "a girl told about me "yuck I hate his skin colour! He's so black!" That was so hurting to hear! Poor child! Even children can be so rude & racist?!
Yes, it's sad, but true. I am white myself, but a few years ago I used to walk my younger sister to her classroom, and in line I overheard 3 white little girls talking. They said: "I don't know if I should trust her, because she's black." And the other girls agreed. I was so utterly shocked that I still remember it to this day, and that was years ago. But you cannot blame the children, racism doesn't come naturally, blame their parents.
Family let that puberty hit that girl in a lil bit. She ain't gone feel like that then. Believe me she gonna have some dark meat b4 the curtains close.
Little children 6 and under form a lot of their skin color prejudices from what they hear at home. If a child doesn't like someone it's usually because they're mean, they're annoying, they won't share, or maybe because their hygiene isn't that good. Not because their skin color isn't the same.
Black is beauty, and those who think white is superior to black, just shows how ignorant they are because at least 60% of white people 's DNA is from Africa, so being black should make u feel proud and original. Anyway whiteness of the face isn't needed it's that of the heart pliz teach your kids don't give them a chance to resent their color and origin. Their color isn't a limitation
Florence Jean, believe it or not, African women have more chances of marriages than black American women. If you go to Europe and meet African women migrants, only then would you see huge, huge, huge differences between them and black American women. Meet them in person and then see how many are wearing engagement rings, how many are talking about their wedding plans. Meet them in African migrant community in Europe and then you will see what is so clearly wrong with the black American women who have made themselves undateable and unattractive. The African women with the darkest skin have no problems in attracting men of all races for dates and marriages. Their greatest secret is their feminity. It is how they project their feminity to men, how they conduct themselves and what messages they send out.
Maybe because she’s dark skinned girls... sometimes people say to me also, “your nose is quite big for a white guy”- maybe I wasn’t enlightened enough to get offended? 🤣
As an Indian, it's really disheartening to see the amount of fairness creams being advertised in my country. It's like the 21st century but we still promote crap like 'fair skin' or 'gora nikhar'. My skin tone, as per Indian standards, is apparently considered fair (which is something of pride apparently). So when I started competitive swimming, I got more tanned. This became a major concern for my relatives and they would suggest ways to lighten my skin (It was so ridiculous). Thankfully my parents and grandma always told me to be proud of my skin so I could just brush them off. But there are so many kids who hate their skin colour. I sure hope this perception changes.
I'm Indian too, and my natural skin color is what a lot of people refer to as "gehua" or "wheatish." I remember that on so many instances, my relatives and friends used to come up to me and say "ah, you'd be so pretty if you were a little lighter!" Then they would go on to suggest "homemade" ways of lightening one's skin. I wonder why Indians still have this in-built mentality?
Kaveri Sharma IKR. It's infuriating. These standards give us self esteem issues without even knowing the damage they're doing. I would like to tell you that your skin colour is lovely and screw people who say otherwise :D
Anisha Srikar As is yours! Your know what gets me though? Matrimonial ads. "Looking for a fair and beautiful bride..." That sentence will give my an aneurysm one day.

I'm Vietnamese. When I was 7, my aunt was talking to my 5 year old cousin and didn't know I was listening and said to her, "You can't go outside and play. Do you want your skin to get dark like Suzanne's?"
I am a Sri Lankan and was always asked why my skin was dark. I used to be embarrassed and lie that I went to the beach a lot and got sunburnt. I wish I could go back to my past self and tell her that she’d be ok and being brown was the best thing that ever happened to her. Don’t hide your culture and traditions, embrace them! Everyone is beautiful in their own ways.
Simple tool, don't answer rather ask a question in return why their color is like that why is not clear like milk? Funny though but a simple tool ask a question in return. You don't have to answer any, it's just the mindset you need to develop and nothing else
I’m kinda worried about that with my Girlfriends family, she’s light skin and I’m very darkskin like African Black. She even warned me about that which makes me uncomfortable
There is kind of an unspoken rule in my Latino family about not dating dark skinned/black people. I never cared. Those types of problematic attitudes end with me and my future children :)
amazing ! Same. I’m brown skinned and the white kids in my class would always think it would be funny to say they couldn’t see me when the lights were turned off and I laughed to hide how hurt I was. This was just last year and I’m a junior in high school😔
Oh boohoo, i'm white man in a black africa. Not even the white women will date me. Twenty-five years of democracy and equality and the people are still blaming the white man instead of pulling thumb from bum and making something of their lives. As a tax payer I am sick of freeloaders getting houses from the government for being black. Ever heard of "Broad-Based Black Empowerment Equity Act"? Ever heard of "Land Appropriation Without Compensation Act"? Ever heard about white farmers getting murdered in South-Africa? The population of white people in South-Africa is half of what we were when I started paying taxes. So do not give me this excrement about black people having a hard time.
It just goes to show you there is NO logic or reason to racism. Those that hate and fear what's different don't care how beautiful you are inside or out. I pity those who wrap themselves in their shields of hate to protect them from their irrational fears; instead of opening their hearts and minds to get to know the many beautiful people and cultures of this world, even within their own countries. It honestly breaks my heart. I pray for healing for those who have been and continue to be hurt by such ignorance.
For me, facials features are a big factor. Color not much, but skin has to be healthy and glowing. So now if you ask me, which one you will choose if you are given a choice between dark skin and white skin person. I would go for a kind person.
That is quite common in India.Parlours thrive on such requests.Sometimes it is ingrained in the minds of many women. Its all about self worth really.I have always believed that everybody has an interesting face.

"You want to be a singer? Your face is too black." A friend of mine told me that when I was like 9 years old in front of a class presentation. Though he was young too, and we're still friends, those words stuck with me. I'm now 32, and I quickly realized how much words like that really have an impact on one's confidence.
As a white person my parents never really mentioned racism to me as a young child. I remember having my first best friend and I was so exited and my parents asked why she was black as if they had expected I would only have white friends. I was confused and said its because she was born that way and my parents realized how they worded the question and dropped it. She was my first crush. Eventually we drifted apart and I had two new friends. People would look at me funny because I always hung out with these two black girls. I don't know if people thought I was weird or if they thought my friends were but either way I didnt care. Sadly, I don't see them as often anymore but this is my point. I didn't hear about people thinking black people were less-than so I never treated them as such. Of course education is important and I'm glad I've learnt some (definitely not all) of the history of racism because it is important. Education is the cornerstone of change. Change is possible. (this isn't me trying to say that I have a black friend so I'm not racist btw, although I sincerely hope I am not racist ever because racism NEEDS to end)
Wisdom really comes from the mouth of children, this comment is underrated, race should be the least of what concerns us.... good or bad, better or worse, a person is defined by how he thinks, how he acts up on that thought and how he behaves and presents himself.....and I say you are an outstanding person!
As a darker skinned Indian this hits home for me. I was adopted to white parents, and I felt ashamed growing up of my skin color to the point that I actually wanted to BE a blonde haired, blue eyed white girl. It took many years to finally be able to say that now I am proud of how I look and I think my brown skin is beautiful. But it took many painful years for me to realize that.
I'm am a darker Vietnamese which means i am of a "poorer class, and I work in the fields" I always wanted paler skin and I still do, but i feel better having darker skin in a sense
TeaKat Dark skin Is seen as undesirable In many places but we all can change that narrative by no longer buying Into that lie and embracing our own beauty.
Could not relate any more!! I'm Chinese adopted to white parents in a predominantly white neighbourhood. Growing up, I wanted to be white. I wanted to have blue eyes, with either blonde, black or brown hair. Now, I'm slowly learning to accept myself. It's still a work in progress, but I'm getting there.
veryserioz Actually if you look at the video they made about dating statistics middle eastern women were most likely to get responses from men, they’re both beautiful
2:19 shes right, I'm still hearing "jokes" like that now. Especially from people that are my race, they think it's okay because they're both black but no. They're the reason why some white people think its okay to make "jokes" like that, and always start off with "well my black friends said".
Stop Asking For My Name fr tho and I feel like when it's your own race that's even more of a slap to the face. For crying out loud if we can't stick together and support each other then what's the point anymore. I mean honestly what's up with that division.
Victoria Wright I beg to differ. I'm black, im a person, most of my family is black, each and every one of them is a person, together we are people, black people.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I think dark skin is much nicer than most European skin colours (with the exception of those ivory coloured red heads. Lol). I know that hearing something once or twice from strangers won't undo your father's words and attitude which you suffered from birth, but I hope you come to see beauty in your skin colour.
My light skinned narccistic Indian parents made me the scapegoat child of the family when I was 3 years old. The reason : I was dark skinned while my younger brother was lighter skinned. He was the golden child and recieved all the affection while I on the other hand was not even hugged and was physically beaten a lot.
I’m an Indian (won’t share my skin color) but so many Americans have told me you’re really pretty for an Indian, at that time I felt sad instead of feeling good. It felt like insult. I told them women of India are far prettier than me (which is 100% true!)
Neuro melanin ( present in the brain ) counts waaaay more than what's on the outside lmao you have dark men with white grandfathers. So how strong is your connection to the universe
No one at birth chose be a color. It's ridiculous that we discriminate against something that no one can help and doesn't need to help. (This also does apply to sexuality)
I am so happy as a mixed person that I saw so many colors growing up! My uncle was very dark, my dad medium , my mom is white … my entire family is mixed. My dad taught me to respect all.

All skin colors are beautiful. Light, dark, and everything in between. Some people are just so terrible that they discriminate if your skin color isn't the same as theirs.

Don't frame yourself based on what people say who don't know and love you. Don't even frame yourself in opposition to what people say who don't know and love you. Don't frame yourself based on something that others think should frame you...negative or positive. You are more than what you look like. What you look like should be the least of your motivations or preoccupations. Let others be who they are. Find the blessing in being who you are and utilize it for all it's value.

As someone who is a light brown skin, I didn't realize that my sister who is a medium brown skin got compared to me a lot. People would tell her not to go out in the sun. I also, remember my relatives telling me that my skin got lighter just because I took a bath.
I am so sorry. You are beautiful the way you are. I know the way society has made it seemed it’s hard to accept yourself the way you are when you don’t fit the beauty standards. But trust me, society is beautiful only because of our differences. So keep your head up and know you are so damn amazing and worth it and you don’t need to change a single thing about you
Why? That means you have not educated yourself and know who you are. Once you do that you will start to feel extremely sorry for non-melanated people and walk with your head high. "The stone that the builder refuse shall be the head corner stone."
Absolutely can't stand it when white people try to insist that "racism doesn't exist anymore" just because slavery got abolished but the fact is, racism does still exist. And if we speak up about it, we'll get silenced. So that's why a lot of us still suffer from racism everyday In silence.
I was 9 and one day I was at the gas station with my dad and a white man told me "black girls can't be polite and elegant". I was a beautiful child and I was shy too and those words impacted my security about myself, now I'm 13 and the idea of falling in love makes me feel asquerous just for my skin color
I never thought any of this. I never thought darker skin equated to ugliness or anything. I know I'm white so I should shut up, but I grew up in Philly and had primarily black, Indian and Korean friends. I never thought this stereotype. I hope this feeling goes away; lupita n'yung, idris alba, mindy kaling are all super hot and of darker skin tones. Let's make everyone feel beautiful but killing these stereotype
It's a misconception they put on themselves. They all are beautiful, beauty is simply subjective. Different places have different idealistics for beauty. And factually many white people especially in America seek to tan themselves because that's what they believe ideal beauty looks like.
I'm so glad that you never thought this way And no, you shouldn't shut up, every voice matters no matter the color. The problem is(at least where I am), is that most white people don't get it, or think that what we're saying is fake, since they're not the target audience. I did a presentation in school on the media and stereotypes on black females, and some people didn't know it was a thing.
It is not a misconception that "they" put on themselves. It's a misconception and misrepresentation that the media constantly portrays that subconsciously integrates into everyone's minds. And yes, they are all beautiful, yet the media tells a vastly different story.
+wonderfultink A sinful world. 'For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God' (Romans 3:23, New Testament). Racism is just another form of sin, as are murder, adultery, stealing, lying, greed, idolatry, and refusal to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
+Jesus is Lord Refusal to believe in a White skinned greek mythology son of Zeus Jesus/Yesus with replaced the real Hebrew name Yeshua make the whole belief fake. Especially when the Pope also commissioned L. Divincci to paint the Pope son his also gay Lover to use as the Image. It was Blasphemy because his holy name was not Jesus nor was Yeshua gay which is also a sin. This further shows the infiltration of false prophecy Roman christian doctrine whose Popes also sanctioned slavery of the dark skinned Hebrews YAH/ God's chosen people. So Yes Jesus and his image are false and Blasphemy.
+James Carter You are confused. Of course Jesus is a translation of the original Hebrew name, Yeshua. English 'John' is the same as French 'Jean' or Spanish 'Juan'. Don't get tied up in knots over translation. And I have nothing to do with Roman Catholicism. That is another discussion. Put your trust in Yeshua, the Messiah of Israel and Light to the nations.
+Jesus is Lord Yes you do your saying are born out of it. As written in scriptures to know him is to know his name. And you must call on his holy name. Yeshua was not Roman or greek nor gay or whites. You are feeding false prophecy. Christian like judaism and Islam are all Babylonian false prophecy as written in the torah. It is white wash to have the other peoples of the world look to Europeans Yah's chosen. Your teachings are part of the Synagogue of Satan. Many have been deceived.
+Jesus is Lord, You translate words not names. Where did he ask that his name be changed or translated. YAH or Yeshua. There no J in the Hebrew Language. J is the Devils left facing HOOK.
Not the only one. When I was 10, I had a Nigerian best friend, while being in primary school in Central Europe. She was bullied by some of my classmates, called all sorts of things from chocolate, through potato, down to poop. I remember getting into quite a couple of skirmishes, because I thought it was hurtful and mean and got into fights on her behalf to make them stop. And all the time, secretly I really envied her, because I thought her skin color was soooooo beautiful! She was really dark, and had this ruddy undertone, and I was in love with her skin. And yes, I was wishing if only I had that.
No you're not! They're all so amazing but it disgusts me how we have to build them up like this because of their skin tone. Everyone deserves confidence and to be complimented but our media today has made the world we live in one in which we have to reassure others that their skin colour is not a problem and that they're beautiful no matter what colour foundation they put on every morning or what shade of the rainbow their skin is. That is what disgusts me about the world.
+Zdena Gabaľová I had a best friend who's dad was Jamaican and mother was Irish- we were planning our dream holiday and when we pretend "booked" flights she turned to me and said, " but Jess I can't go on a plane" when I asked her why she said "because no one will want to sit next to me" when I asked her again why she said "because I'm black." This is inconceivable to me, we were 11 and she had the idea in her head that she couldn't fly in a plane because her skin was a different colour to mine.
it doesn't really start at home, Juan. This a systemic cultural bias ingrained in the psyche of many to support white superiority. So even if your parents tell you that you re beautiful the way you are, the media and the world at large do not reflect that dichotomy. The myth that anything white is better than anything dark has to be dispelled. It is happening slowly as images of diverse people appear in commercials. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, but if someone consistently focuses your eye on one image as the standard to measure by, your perception is skewed. .
ovrjoyd4u2 get a clue! Colored people are not just in the kand of the white man! LOL Go to Asia and you will see whiteness is an image unforced by the inhabitants for thousands of years with or without European colonization. Even Europeans would rate themselves based on whiteness throughout history. For the same reasons as Asians and im sure most other cultures, white skin equates to wealth, because white skin could remain indoors out of the fields. Stop blaming whites for everything! Doing so only enslaves yourself to being a perpetual victim, that will never be happy or successful.
You really are either obtuse or illiterate. I blame no one for anything. If you think that the promotion of white supremacy is a myth, then shame on you. I already know the real truth, but that has not stopped the purporting of the lie. I am very happy and successful, but not because of my people's victimization, but despite it.
I came to this video, I'm Asian and a Filipina. Here in the Philippines having fair skin is a big deal, you are pressured to get your skin whiter because they find it attractive. But being morena is the most attractive for me, and I'm proud of myself that I'm one of those morena's! Flaunt yourself of whatever skin you had because it makes u the most beautiful way around.
Not to devalue or invalidate their experiences or anything. But as a dark skin black woman, I really hate it when people expect me to be insecure abt being dark skin. Yes I've had comments abt my dark tone but I've always known that I'm beautiful. It just irritates me when ppl expect me to have a story abt how I wanted to bleach my skin when I've never felt this way.
elky360 I made a comment saying feeling bad about your skin color is a self esteem issue and people are coming for me saying I do not understand history, all while missing my point which is to love the skin you are in no matter how dark or light
People will come for you because you are dismissing the aspect and reality of colorism. The other comment is a separate issue from what you're speaking of. Sure for some it can be a self esteem issue but it is really a self-image issue which stems from colorism...please do not negate colorism as a REAL issue.
anointed2wait your comment is understandable, but I did not dismiss colorism as having an impact on how those people percieve themselves, however what I was saying is that it is more personal (hence 'self' was used), as if it wasn't all person who have faced 'colorism' would feel the same way
Judi Lynn thanks for understanding, it's not that I'm dismissing other people who feel that way, all I'm trying to say is that not all dark skin people feel that way, what this video failed to tell us is that some dark folks exude confidence and are proud of being dark and happy with the way they are
mercy awour she isn’t considered dark skinned to me or in Indian standards I’m talking about a real dark skinned indian girl like the girl in the video that actually represents the people of India

I sure hope this perception changes.
on the other hand, campaigns like #unfairandlovely is positively lovely to me

Then they would go on to suggest "homemade" ways of lightening one's skin. I wonder why Indians still have this in-built mentality?

Ever heard of "Broad-Based Black Empowerment Equity Act"? Ever heard of "Land Appropriation Without Compensation Act"?
Ever heard about white farmers getting murdered in South-Africa? The population of white people in South-Africa is half of what we were when I started paying taxes.
So do not give me this excrement about black people having a hard time.

The weird part is everybody in this video is attractive
It just goes to show you there is NO logic or reason to racism. Those that hate and fear what's different don't care how beautiful you are inside or out. I pity those who wrap themselves in their shields of hate to protect them from their irrational fears; instead of opening their hearts and minds to get to know the many beautiful people and cultures of this world, even within their own countries. It honestly breaks my heart. I pray for healing for those who have been and continue to be hurt by such ignorance.
Yes, they are. Unfortunately they don't see themselves that way, because of racism.
Yeah that's what I was thinking too
Why is it “weird”?
How come it’s “weird”?
For me, facials features are a big factor. Color not much, but skin has to be healthy and glowing. So now if you ask me, which one you will choose if you are given a choice between dark skin and white skin person. I would go for a kind person.
I feel sad for the indian girl who said her mom bleached her skin as a child
That is quite common in India.Parlours thrive on such requests.Sometimes it is ingrained in the minds of many women. Its all about self worth really.I have always believed that everybody has an interesting face.

Man...that sucks. I hope you have an amazing time 🥺

As a darker skinned Indian this hits home for me. I was adopted to white parents, and I felt ashamed growing up of my skin color to the point that I actually wanted to BE a blonde haired, blue eyed white girl.
*feel beautiful by killing these stereotypes
It's a misconception they put on themselves. They all are beautiful, beauty is simply subjective. Different places have different idealistics for beauty.
And factually many white people especially in America seek to tan themselves because that's what they believe ideal beauty looks like.
☺️ your a kind person
I'm so glad that you never thought this way And no, you shouldn't shut up, every voice matters no matter the color. The problem is(at least where I am), is that most white people don't get it, or think that what we're saying is fake, since they're not the target audience. I did a presentation in school on the media and stereotypes on black females, and some people didn't know it was a thing.
It is not a misconception that "they" put on themselves. It's a misconception and misrepresentation that the media constantly portrays that subconsciously integrates into everyone's minds. And yes, they are all beautiful, yet the media tells a vastly different story.

A sinful world. 'For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God'
(Romans 3:23, New Testament). Racism is just another form of sin, as are
murder, adultery, stealing, lying, greed, idolatry, and refusal to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
+James Carter
You are confused.

Zdena Gabaľová i just dont get why some people dont accept others the way they are and that irritates me sooooo much
No you're not!

It starts at home people. Teach the children not to hate themselves.
it doesn't really start at home, Juan.
I am very happy and successful, but not because of my people's victimization, but despite it.
you go grl !! yeah!
We don’t hate ourselves. In psychology it’s called race resonance. Look it up. lol
