  • So many television ships have sunk because there is no spark or actual tangible romance showing between the couple in question. In chinese dramas the leading couples have failed to capture the our imagination because of how dull, boring, and forced their love story seems.

I was so confused while watching Blood Of Youth because at first I thought it was boys love and boys had more chemistry, but then girls appeared and it felt so forced and out of place I dropped out. Not that I’m biased but if you put romance put a little something convincing or just make a martial arts show, that’s it.

Some of these female actresses seem to just not know how to respond , or perhaps they are afraid their secret boyfriend will be mad. Then there are some males that only do fake wooden kisses. The directors need to make them do a better job.
Why agree to the ML or FL in romance dramas if you are not going to muster up some passion and chemistry ? Just be supporting cast. They need to pick more compatible leads for romance dramas.

Chemistry is a very personal thing. The way certain actresses and actors react with each other either click with us, or they don't. I love Changge and Ashile Sun, personally. Still my favorite CP in 2024. There was a lack of intimate scenes, but I still enjoyed their chemistry, and loved the way they looked at each other. Also loved their relationship dynamics. There are those whom others claim have great chemistry, but I've watched and thought otherwise, so, each to his or her own.

OMO This was painfully dead on! The mismatch pairing of actors and actresses is painful. I thought they do screen tests. If it is supposed to be a romance - see if they can even touch each other before you hire them!
Yikes. If it is a passionate romance - test them out. I do not think most of them are hungry actors anymore -just there to bring in the money. We want to see actors and actresses play their hearts out! It's the same ones over and over again. IMHO Yang Yang doesn't have chemistry with anyone he acts with. Just me.....
OK the remark about The Untamed was hysterical and true. lol Still laughing. Thanks for the honest review -someone had to say it. Very refreshing...

I can't disagree more with some of these couples especially ashile sun and changge are one of my all time favorite couples out there, while watching the drama I thought they were really made for each other so I have no clue why would people think they had no chemistry like what!!! I think maybe one of the two reasons might be that there was no kiss or that dilraba in real life is slightly older than Leo wu because these are the only reasons I can think of, cause damn they are couple goals through the whole drama going from friends to enemies to allies to lovers. I actually have been noticing this a lot in cdrama, the audience and the c neitzens are very close minded and have the traditional patriarchy kinda mentality.. age is super important for them unlike kdrama were there is more flexibility but a woman older in age or even looking older than the ml is the ultimate sin and no matter what no chemistry.. A man older or much older on the other side is even praised lmao. So really the only reason is that they can't separate characters from the actors and the kiss was because Leo wu was young at the time nothing can be done about it. I also wanted that kiss but sigh. Overall they are freaking iconic and anyone who says otherwias is biased af

    • @divinearia1601
      @divinearia1601 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Some of those complaining about their lack of chemistry were already against them before they even saw the two on screen because of their age gap, so there was obviously already a bias there. I guess it didn't exactly help convince the naysayers either since there was a lack of intimate scenes between their two characters and the fact that they share a very special/unique relationship dynamic that is like a partnership/brotherhood(Changge isn't comfortable with her feminine side and often doesn't treat herself as a female). That latter part is prob why some complain that they come off as friends. I don't know why that's a bad thing though. That aspect of their relationship was actually one of my favorite things about them. It's great that two people can get along so well despite being enemies. Add romantic feelings on top of a great friendship and you have a truly strong relationship. Your lover should also be your best friend, someone you can so naturally understand/trust/rely on/and believe in. That partnership/"brotherhood" dynamic was especially true to their relationship in the manhua(A'Sun doesn't learn that Changge is female until much, much later on in the story there). I love them, personally. They're also my all-time favorite CP. As you said, I also felt that they were made for each other. The way that A'Sun would look at Changge or the shy way she was stealing glances at his face as the two were running from Hao Du and his men was super sweet. I didn't merely enjoy their chemistry but also fell in love with their healthy, inspiring relationship and all the different layers of it 😊

@lynnhall8720 Sorry, but that is very insulting to the actress. Please refrain from making personal remarks on the actors' looks (if that was not your intention, then my apologies).
What I found extremely annoying was the person in charge of her wardrobe. I definitely think Yang Zi needs a new professional personnel who has better dressing sense for her. She definitely needs an overhaul for her drama wardrobe and possibly a better agent who will get her better roles. Her current agent clearly doesn't fit the job. Sometimes chemistry between leads can be down to the viewers mood. Allen Ren for example in "forever and ever". I LOVED the on-screen chemistry between him and Bai Lu but in "under the power", "Twilight" and "Miss Crow Lizard", I was flabbergasted! I put the lack of chemistry down to a mismatch of Female leads plus his "No kissing scene" contract. I can imagine how envious I'd be if my man was necking it with every female on screen so trying to act interested even in love but cautioning yourself so that you wife doesn't question you afterwards that "hey, that is the same look you gave me last night". As for Zhang Lin He, he is a beautiful actor that looks believable on screen as an object of affection but sometimes it just fails to come across. I have watched a lot of kissing scenes and the ones that work is where both actors lean into each other not where one goes 90% and the other barely lifts their heads or leaves their eyes open and lifeless. It's acceptable if you were caught unaware but when it's expected..... this irks me no end. FL's who just shout for no reason - is this part of script, the way Chinese women communicate or bad directing? I think all this adds to a lackluster romantic scene.

For me what doesn't help 80% of the time in Asian dramas are always the kisses. The best ones in my opinion and there were no kissing scenes for obvious reasons are The Untamed and Word of Honor, Who Rules the World had a bit but not enough, and Guardian too. What I saw (my point of view) in these dramas in particular was that everything was said with their eye contact. I do agree with Who Rules The World though.

While I like both Dilraba and Leo Wu, I agree that there wasn't much chemistry between them in The Long Ballad. You also have to consider their age and experience differences. He was just 19-20 when that was filmed, while she was 26-27. As he matures, he will get better at romantic scenes. In You Are My Hero, I think Bai Jing Ting carried most of the emotion in the pairing, but his character was naive and inexperienced, which restricted his expression to her. From what I have read, Alan Ren has changed his contracts to be no-kiss since he got married. More me that point with the couples are not the most important one, as I like to watch the series because of the costumes, the settings and the stories. Until know I never hat to stop watching a series because of this. But it is a point, one, which is more important for some viewerts. So hat are my thoughts about this:
The most couples don’t even felt like sibling chemistry. Sometimes wouldn’t be able to sell as friends. The series in complete are very often goods ones. But reduced to the couples of the series, there is a lot of lacking. It is in my opinion more a rarity that a couple is truly believable played. I would even take a couple with good sibling energy. At least the chemistry would be better that most.
In a lot of series I noticed three points.
One is that the chemistry between other character combinations are better than the scripted couple. As the actors were more likely to chosen after their ability to portrait the character, but that doesn’t mean they would be the best to portrait the couple also.
Also we don’t know the scripts. The actresses/actors can’t really do much against it. If their voice is not heard, I don’t think they can really do much against it. Because sometimes I think, it is not the problem of the cast, that they have a problem with the intimacy. More they have to show the character according to the script.
The second one is the most noticeable one for me. The chemistry between characters of the same gender are often the best one. It is the same for male and female portrait characters. Even in Empresses in the Palace in my opinion the most chemistry in the series had Zhen Huan and Mei Zhuang. A part could be the relation between the actors themselves. Maybe also the point, as they don’t have to be carefully in the same way, as they have to be the other gender. So modesty and so on wouldn’t be the same problem.
The third point is more a thought. A thought of a part reason, that also could be blend in the other points. Something, that can influence the acting unconsciously. The actors/actresses have their own fans. Some fans are very verbal, if their favorite actor is playing with a certain actress or the other way around. So the behaviour of the fans and the possible boycotts some fans are writing about or even their unhappiness could influence this. It is a possibility. So if the couple is not perfectly portrait, than this fans should be quieter. But the same fans could be also “angry again” because the other part is the problem and the couple is not believable. I’m not sure, how much this is in realty a point. And that doesn't have completely something to do with the professionalism of the actors, I mean if this happens unconsciously.
The director in such cases should be direct the actors/actresses a little bit more.
    That are my three cents.

He is much younger than her and when they were filming LofF, Yibo was going through emotional upset which caused him to break down on the set. I believe that LiYing took him under her wing, like an older sister would. But there is no romantic connection between them.

The kissing scenes are so frustrating! 😡 They bump faces, but never engage lips. But to be fair to the actors, I think that it has a lot to do with the directors not wanting to overstep laws involving how much they are allowed to get away with.
The best kissing scenes that I have ever seen involve Korean actor Soo-Hyun Kim. He is an amazing actor; he puts everything into his characters, especially where emotions are concerned, but when he kisses his leading ladies, he steals my breath and ignites a burning fire 🔥 on screen that spreads across to the viewers.
Is it any wonder that Zhan Xiao and Yibo Wang have no chemistry with their leading ladies, but their on-screen chemistry in The Untamed created a Big Bang that set new universes in motion! 😆❤💥💚

Dilraba's best chemistry pairing has always been Zhang Bin Bin. Even when he played a second role in her dramas most fans shipped her with him than with the actual male lead. Actually I think that among cdrama actors, Zhang Bin Bin has the greatest chemistry with both male leads and female leads. It feels effortless. Another cdrama male actor who has great chemistry with both male and female leads is Chen Xiao (the male actor). Even when there are no kissing scenes you can always feel the chemistry between him and the other lead. Wang Yibo's best female chemistry I think is Niu Chunmiao in war of faith. It was a shippable TV pairing. He also had great chemistry with Chen Xiao (the actor) in being a hero.

Xaio Zhan and Wang Yibo have always bored me to death with their lack of chemistry with FLs and any intimate scenes so I tend to skip their dramas. I loved some of Allen Ren's dramas like Blue Whisper and One and Only, but he is starting to grate my last nerve with most of his dramas where he just is cringy. I loved Yang Yang and Zhao Lusi in WRtW due to their characters and I did love how they fought together and their work at being a united couple. However, I must say that I blame the Directors as well. Most seem to be deathly afraid to have any PDA or intimacy between whoever the couples may be. Having watched some amazing dramas where the chemistry was off the charts, such as Amidst a Snowstorm of Love (Wu Lei), The Forbidden Flower and the more recent The Legend of Shen Li, when I see boring couples then I have a tendency to drop the drama. And why, if China is against homosexuality, are the BL dramas full of intimate scenes that put most ML/FL dramas to shame?

Also awful in general: the required asexuality of both sexes, but women in particular. Kissing scenes= visit to the dentist. And let’s face it, some of the actors probably aren’t into women, as you have hinted at! All your examples true! Yang Mi and Zi, Zhao Lusi are a l w a y s stiff and ‘antiseptic’. Bai Lu is the counterpoint, vivacious, bubbly, emotional, s e x y! Awesome chemistry turned TTEOTM -riddled with uneven writing - into a triumph. She and Luo should make one drama a year.
