Chinese fans don't care in fact a lot of fans actively encourage romance for their idols. Chinese audiences only get fed up if their selling point is hot single could be anyone's bf/gf then find out their real image is different from what they are selling. It's openly lying. People prefer honesty, or just don't over share. If you have the talent, nobody cares, plenty of well respected, talented celebrities that keep their private lives private. They are respected and celebrated.

Being a celebrity is like stepping into a spider's web or becoming a prey to vultures whose desires can never be satiated. Once the celebrity falls, they look for another prey to play with. Where the entertainment industry before was purely for entertainment, today it has become a deadly arena where the audience can change the rules and the outcome of the game. Becoming a celebrity is like a moth approaching the attractive flame unaware that it can burn them. Let's pray for a change in our society. Hoping for the return of the simple life... pure entertainment.. no unrealistic demands . Devoid of vanity.. no externals..

These so called fans seem to be teenagers who,the world over, are infamous for being shallow, moody, and judgmental. The internet has given them a voice they should never have had. They are too unstable, ignorant and self absorbed to be given any kind of power over anything. Particularly teen girls are subject to creating drama just for dramas sake and not for some actual rationale. They have too much time on their hands and are not engaged in anything useful or meaningful.A society that allows its teens unbridled behavior is a doomed society.they need to be gotten under control by their parents. Like take all of their devices away for months and insist they engage in meaningful activities. Monitor their use of said devices and block them from social media accounts.Any lip or guff from them and extend the time of the removal of their devices. They are like dogs who have inept owners who do not know how to discipline them. They act out,act crazy and become hostile and vicious. It’s not a governmental issue it’s a parental and societal issue.

I've just got into cdramas earlier this summer, after 4 years of watching ( and binging on kdramas), the brutality of celebrity culture in East Asia appears to be beyond comprehension - why should any famous person adapt who they are, restrict themselves as if they owe their fans anything - they don't! Parasocial relationships are one sided ( from the fan) and so are not real!
It's bad enough what celebs go through in 'The West' but in China and South Korea this seems to go to another insane level ...where some celebs have sadly had to *unlive* themselves because of the nasty comments, bullying and online abuse they receive from 'fans'....and haters! Full-scale 'fanatic' narcissism there - when you think someone ( even a celebrity you don't actually know!), somehow 'owes you back' or that you're entitled to their personal life choices, and also expect them to return 'the favour' because of a choice YOU made to support or help them.
I really hope there is some sort of legislation that can protect these celebrities as what they do as entertainers is not easy - you put yourself out there constantly on show for the good, the bad, the ugly and the unworthy to see!
Good luck to them, I hope they get the support they need and deserve, and 'those fans' need to chill out and focus on their own lives!

Absolutely. I am an Indian, neighbour to China. But such terrible things don' t happen here. We love our stars, cheer for them, fill in the multiplexes and auditorium, but never expect them to be like mechanised dolls. They have love life, freely marry, have children, continue to act and their popularity does not wane a bit. Many of our top stars shot to the top when they were already married with families. There was no problem, and still there is nothing. Rather, we appreciate them because they are balancing their personal and professional lives nicely. I just can' t comprehend this craziness. These people are behaving abnormally and scaring their idols.

I see patients with mental health issues every shift I work. This is no joke, people. Back off!!!

    • @annag8613
      @annag8613 ปีที่แล้ว

Well said. I am appalled at the vitriol of so called "fans" and "netizens". Their sole purpose seems to be to bludgeon their idols into death or submission. China and Sputh Korea seem to be the worst (what a surprise Confucian societies topping the bullying and entitlement lists... not) but Thai BL fans are also rabid. had never heard of fan service until I started watching those. Dreadful. I am shocked at the extent to which celebrity lives are impacted and controlled. They are allowed to have their own lives and make their own choices. Of course they have to expect a level of publicity as it the very nature of the beast but the deviant nature of these fans and what companies expect from them is utterly ridiculous. I had noticed the extreme skinniness of Chinese and South Korean women and even the men, but women in particular. The savagery is heavier for the women in general. I don't see how it is sustainable. I can't imagine how much they must mock us in the West. This terrible culture needs to change.
For the Indians out there, I don't think India is considered when people say "Asia" usually. India uniquely stands on its own. In my view it always has. So don't worry, we know you are different lol.

There are many reasons for this obsessive behaviour.
The One Child Policy along with the need for parents to work fulltime, was not conducive to children being taught properly how to behave in society.
Youth unemployment is growing and it leaves many with far too much time on their hands to dedicate to social media.
Capital has latched on to the idea that if celebrities endorse their products, fans will spend any amount of money in order to boost their idol's status which in turn gives fans a huge amount of power. This needs to stop. Companies should be selling products based on their intrinsic value, not on stars' fandoms.
In a society long ruled by elders with very conservative values, young people can only vent their anger and frustration on the internet by harsh denunciations of anyone whom they see as undeserving of fame.
The situation will only improve if one of two things happens: either the government will impose even more restrictions on the public on top of all the censorship which already exists and all the rules which govern people's lives; or the stars get together and form a defensive barrier against overbearing fan behaviour with a unified front so that if one star is maligned unfairly the others will speak out for that person and chastise their own fans who misbehave.

Famous people are subject to criticism, persecution and exaggerated expectations by fans in many countries. It seems that in China it reached an extreme level. Everyone wants to see a good movie or series and connect what or experience excitement depends on what you are looking for, but it does not give the right to anyone to decide what an actor can or cannot do. Private life everyone wants but doesn't shy away from wanting to rule over others...interesting that the country that allows it can get and expect someone to work for them as an actor. Of course money rules and many want to be rich in a short time. I think fans who cannot give constructive criticism and recognition when someone is good and talented are not really fans, they are jealous and obsessed people who have problems with their own identity. The Entertainment Industry is brutal in the West, too, but this is far worse than what I’d honestly feared.
I adore Ester Yu and Dylan Wang, and have heard that they’ve had some difficulties, but they are really lovely souls, so it kinda breaks my heart that they’re in such a toxic environment.. but it really doesn’t surprise me, especially after reading some of the stuff in comments on some YT channels that center around them.
So I just pray for everyone to simply Give the Grace they wish to receive from East to West & West to East above and below the limitations of our collective Understanding, so that someday Soon, some Real Magic Happens.. and Peace & Love will Rule Us All, rather than opinions that don’t add anything Positive to the Human Experience.

Woooww…I only recently discovered Cdramas through Kdramas after YEARS of all US shows being crap and went looking for something new. I was surprised and delighted to discover a treasure of fantastic stories, acting, costumes, production, humor and action. I LOVED Tale Of The Nine Tail and both leading actors. After learning Lee Dong Wook was still single at 42, I had my suspicions as to why…. Then next falling in love with Luo Yunxi when I just opened ep 1 of Til The End Of The Moon expecting a brief distraction (boy was I wrong! 😂), and started binge watching it I noticed how thin he was n had my suspicions again as to why. I’ve seen vids of him when he danced ballet & he had a lot more meat on him and looked so much healthier.
The rabid obsession and unrealistic expectations, the clinging and feelings of “possession” are a side effect of living in a dualistic society that DEMANDS perfection while also restricting all forms of free creative expression, free speech and the ability to truly LIVE any way you want to be happy. Alllllllll of that intense emotion that is suffocated has to go somewhere n sadly, it explodes all over other people that the depressed and suppressed see as the only joy in their lives. It’s VERY difficult to live your life in 100% strict self-control all the time so you don’t get in trouble, stressful and keeps one in a state of fear and agitated. Any release one can find to let out all their love, joy, excitement or, anger, resentment, even grief is an avenue many will take to cope with their unhappy lives.
Having said all of that, they have no right to judge, shame, bully, demand anything from their idols. At the end of the day, no matter what country you live in, every person is a free, sovreign individual entitled to live their own lives however they choose. For the sake of these lovely people I really hope these harmful attitudes change soon. I look at Luo and see the light shining from him like a beautiful star and yet, theres also an auraof sadness around him. His eyes are sooooo magnificient and expressive, I see it there…. It’s like caging a gorgeous angel and clipping its wings so others can enjoy looking at it, not understanding that now it’s true essence and beauty has been destroyed….The most beautiful things in this world MUST be free to be truly appreciated in all their glory. Then the light they shine is blinding! As it should be.
I will continue to watch K & C dramas and support my faves however I can with love, respect and appreciation for their talent, hard work and beauty - just as they are.

One question to ask these people is: how would you feel if you had all this intrusion on your life and the choices you made in both your professional and personal life?
I know I wouldn’t as such just as long as these celebrities aren’t doing anything illegal I really couldn’t care what they get up to in their personal lives. I would also hope that they had the time and energy to look after themselves. And as to what size they were, just as long as they were happy and it wasn’t detrimental to their health, don’t care. And as to what a person looks like, be proud of where you come from (skin tone) and as to looks, what I find good looking is completely different to what you find good looking, it is all in the eyes of the beholder.

The only thing celebrities should owe their "fans" is a good performance. Who they date(as long as there's no violence physically or mentally or underage or spreading diseases) is no one's business. Just because you date someone and breakup shouldn't mean the end of a career. They are human and should have privacy in a private setting. Not having photos behind a curtain in their homes or hotels. Also, isn't there security at airports? Why are large groups allowed to gather inside and reck havoc?

It's because in the Chinese entertainment industry the actors and actresses are products and the fans are consumers. The consumer expectations are very high. If a product doesn't satisfy the consumer, he/she will complain and/or just stop buying the product. Besides that, the Chinese government uses the entertainment industry as propaganda. So, nothing that can put a stain on the squeeky clean image of what China stands for, is allowed.

  • @lensal8372

You know, this toxic fan culture reminds me of a cycle of abusive narcissistic relationship: It starts with the "love bombing" phase in which the fan idolizes the celebrity and starts obsessing over them. Then as soon as the celebrity makes the tiniest mistake that reveals they're just human, the fan is "disappointed in them" and starts bashing them with all manner of abusive demeaning words. Finally the fan might discard them altogether. The entitlement and control that are present in abuse are also found in those fans' behavior.
Those fan- idol relationships are in fact abusive relationships through and through. And just as you would advise a victim to leave their abuser and set boundaries, so I would advise those celebrities to stop taking sh*t from fans and set boundaries. Stop issuing apologies over every little thing, stop adjusting your behavior to what the "fans" want, date people openly and proudly and be yourself. If they can't accept you, they are not your fan. They only loved the image you projected, not you.

The particular internet culture of China, where rumors spread like wildfire even quicker than with Twitter or other social media elsewhere, does indeed make c-ent a very dangerous profession for those who are not grounded and diplomatic enough, or sufficiently well-connected to fight quickly and efficiently some toxic rabble rousers. The "water army" of anti fans is particularly redoubtable in China.
The possessiveness of the obsessive fans (sī shēng 私生) and their crowding their idol whenever they get wind of their agenda is very disturbing. It reminds me sometimes of the Stephen King novel : Misery. And the break-in by a crazy fan who was found standing in the family kitchen of his Bangor home back in the days. Possessive and toxic fans can be found all over the world. Like narcissistic and evil people can be found in every society, not only in entertainment.
But fandom is not necessarily made up only of that sort : many reasonable fans support their idol in better ways, and those fans are valued by the stars too, who approve of their organized groups, that have a function. The ones who go fisty-fighting and spewing loud abuse are unreasonable ; those who are abstain from engaging in fan wars that way. Same as in every fandom, be it literary or entertainment. I am on speaking terms with fans of different c-ent "tribes", with whom I click on some views: hailang, yiyuan, yangmao, keluli, lurong, luoshifen, yuanbao, sheng mi, jie mi, baizhou, jiaren ... I do find Fandoms to be a colorful jungle everywhere, with many dangerous beasts and pitfalls, and quite a few venomous snakes and insects, but also nice enthusiasts.
The presentation of the particular Chinese c-ent jungle excesses in the video is on point.
Just adding that Chen Feiyu's trouble with the leaked photos seems to be over : he is now cast again in upcoming screen work.
What is really damning in that sphere is rumors of tax fraud or disrespecting historical taboos. Those who are not carefull about that are really at risk, not only in c-ent. It is particularly acute in China, but can also happen elsewhere : one should always be aware of what is allowable and what isn't.
Jewelry is not so big a sin: most entertainers are also models who sport jewelry anyway, even if it is not always as flashy as rappers jewelry. Tatoos are another matter : one girl almost got kicked out of a sports competition because of a small shoulder tattoo, so those who have them should be careful about flaunting them. Z.Tao's makeup and jewelry does not faze me, but I am somewhat concerned about his tattoos, although as a martial artist with faithful backers such as Jackie Chan (Chen Long) who views him as a godson, it may slide. Z.Tao is very gifted as a musician and businessman, and also cares about acting. With his muscles, no one can really accuse him of being very effeminate, and he does not admit to be anything else than straight, promising hailang to invite them when he eventually gets married. Other stars have been acting or shown themselves in weird hair color or outfits, like Liu Yuning or Xu Weizhou: the latter recently announced his marriage, and thanks to rabble rousers we know Liu Yuning had been married and divorced, preferring career to family life. I like all of these's music anyway (yes, including Jackie Chan's!)

Dylan Wang has been a victim of envy of other actors' fans fearful his natural good looks would outshine their favorites. He is not a nepo baby and does not have powerful backers or a big publicity machine, so bullies think he is an easy target. They would show photos of him from scenes in Miss The Dragon where he was INTENTIONALLY made to look bedraggled (after fighting with a powerful being) to downgrade his looks. Too bad his handsomeness can't be denied despite numerous digs at his physical appearance. Apparently, the name "Wang Hedi" (Dylan's Chinese name) has become synonymous to "handsome" in China. A photo of a handsome cat with caption of "Wang Hedi of the cat world" garnered close to a million likes in a Chinese social media platform LOL

Just appreciate the entertainment and leave them alone. They work extremely hard and have difficult enough lives that the fans should leave them alone on their personal time. THEY DON'T OWE US ANYTHING!! Of course they should and do appreciate their fans but their personal life is their personal life!!!!
If you really were a fan, you'd want them to be happy in their personal day to day life. The fact that some fans think celebrities should stay single and unhappy is very disturbing and downright cruel. If the fans really cared, they would be happy for their actor/idols happiness!!!! You are not a fan if you are hurting them and making them suffer. It is pure ugly selfishness to get angry at them for being human and finding love.
If you really love your actor/idol then show it by being kind, thoughtful, compassionate and understanding that they are human beings and deserve happiness.

I think its the extremely unrealistic beauty standard. These celebrities look nothing like the population or represent 0.01% of how the population looks like. The beauty standards of a society has to reflect at the very least how the people look and should have variety. For the actors especially the ladies, there's no variety at all. The saddest part is the one actress who actually looks like the population is the one was shamed for being ugly. It is dangerous to have a self hating society.....

Most Chinese fans are only after the appearance of the celebrities, they disregard or let say they are not concern whether their favorite celebrities are good in acting or not. And also, some producers advertise/promote their celebrities of their appearance, not the story of the dramas they are working. Not like in other country, even though how old or the actors/actresses are no longer handsome/beautiful they still loved by the viewers/audience. Because of the acting skills and the storyline of the movies/TV series are of quality. So most of their movies are watched and became a blockbusters. Not like in China, the scriptwriters imagination is so limited. The storyline is always husband cheated, divorce, remarried, third party, love story, pregnancy, so on and so forth. Even in costume dramas still the same. Promote quality dramas regardless the cast are popular or not, as long as they can act.😊😊😊😊

    • @lauarascott
      @lauarascott ปีที่แล้ว

I agree with everything you said, that is why I have been saying some of the problems arise from the production company. They only rely on the actor's or actress's popularity, face, family background meaning rich, or who the gold master are. That is why in Cdrama we see the same actors or actresses over and over in every drama some that were named in this video. One of the reasons why Mini Drama is becoming so popular is because people get to see new faces and people who can act. Not trying to blame the actors and actresses but maybe if writers and directors could give lead roles based on acting abilities then how popular, face value, and background just maybe these crazy fans would not have so much power. Some companies go as far as using these fans to destroy a competitor or a star repetition looking at what happened to Zhang Zhehan's career.

I feel sad for Chinese Actors and Actresses. The perspective of most fans in China is indescribable. Actors and Actresses are also human beings, they don't deserve to be controlled by their fans, they also have their own lives 😢😢😢

The entertainment industry in Asia need to take some responsibility for this as they are expecting a lot from these celebrities of whom many are under the age of 25, and by making them appear on “game shows”, having them become brand ambassadors, modelling etc. The Asian networks, agents, venues need to ensure the health and wellbeing of these celebrities as they are after all effectively paying their wages by the money that they are earning for them. The Asian press also have a responsibility, allow the celebrity to a private life, if a celebrity wants the public to know something on them they will tell them. Hopefully this in turn will make the so called fans think about their actions. 😐

Hey, Chinese Starlet, aren't you one of those anti-fans? I noticed you've featured that unflattering image of Dylan Wang from Miss The Dragon in another of your videos. Is that the worst image of him? He actually still looks good even though, as somebody else pointed out, he was INTENTIONALLY made to look dishevelled in that scene. Antis of Dylan Wang probably carry that image in their pockets to make them feel good about their favorite actors. But too bad, I heard that Dylan's Chinese name, Wang Hedi, has become synonymous to "handsome" in China. A photo of a handsome cat captioned "Wang Hedi of the cat world" got almost a million likes in a Chinese social media platform, ha ha ha! Anyway, I heard that those who have seen him in person profess he is handsomer in person. And that's because his handsomeness is not only from his outward appearance but also because of his beautiful heart and soul.

Thank you for the update 🥰some of there fans have no say about their lives and can’t tell them what to do, they are adults and as for you’s if have nothing nice to say to these actors and actresses then don’t say nothing at all, hold your tongue and main your own business and keep your nose out of their lives. This is telling me you’s have no respect for them and not thinking what you say is hurting them and going into their homes that is not on, that is so wrong and disgusting and disrespectful 🌷how could you’s do that, I am a fan too but I will not say the things you’s say and they can have a relationship with whoever they choose and love, the same thing for marriage 💜you’s need to look in the mirror and look at yourselves and get a life and leave them alone and let them live their life and be happy 💖you’s wouldn’t like it if everyone started talking about you and telling you what to do and how to live your life and what to wear or marry, relationship and broke into your house and take your things and leave a nasty horrible note about you and your looks, you’s wouldn’t like that at all, so please stop doing this you’s are not getting anywhere with this, just hurting them, no peace, sleepless nights, not thinking about them and there families, there is no love, care, compassion or mercy. Please Heavenly Father can you please stop all this and that they come to their senses and stop bad mouthing these actors and actresses and to not enter into their homes without permission and to let them live their lives and have peace within their hearts and minds and household and for them to examine themselves and to humble themselves 💙thank you Heavenly Father 😇in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ I pray. Amen 🙏God bless you’s all and your beautiful families 🙏❤🤍💜🤎💛💕😍😎🌹

Actor or actress comes with pros and cons, unfortunately they live in a certain country which has stricter rules and also unfortunate that’s the culture of the people who supports them wholeheartedly. Yes it comes with a huge price but on the other hand I am sure they know what is expected of them before they sign their life away in the world of FAME . In other word leave the entertainment world once you are ready to settle down cause only then you will find peace and freedom 😊

Being a fan means to support the person you admire. And support means to see them also as human beings. Every man and every woman has the right to live a private life. The more happiness there is in privacy, the more willing to show a perfect performance there will be. Let us cherish them , we should not put them under pressure.Enough of them are already cracked.

When news breaks that a celebrity is overwhelmed with stress and depression and is no longer with us, fans are often surprised. I believe every person is human and deserves happiness. Fans often buy into an image crafted by agencies or companies, not the actual person. I'm not sure, but I only look up to God because everyone is human. Some people go too far without realizing this. I have a friend who is obsessed with a celebrity; she's married with children, yet she insists the celebrity must stay single, which seems unrealistic to me. The pressure placed on celebrities is indeed extreme.

If fans aren’t contributing to celebrity’s having a good, loving happy life then they aren’t fans. Being a fan and not seeing it’s a give and take situation with celebrities. Meaning they give good performances, lots of extra experiences for the fans and fans should realize they are getting exactly what they should and don’t deserve more or to be personal with their favorite celebrities. It’s rather deranged to think otherwise and down right wrong and mean to interfere in their personal and daily lives. It seems that there are no true fans out there. How horrible of a person you must be to try and destroy someone’s career and life and not allow them love.

This is sooooooo sad! It's too bad that so many people care about what other people think. I would imagine that many of the Chinese civilians are paid to create different situations because there are so many poor people who will do anything for money so that they can survive. Hopefully the celebrities will become strong enough to learn not to care what others think and live a life that they choose to live. Good luck everyone.
