The m division should have focused more on a performance and response rather than just straight line acceleration with its lumpy battery and large v8. Instead, I would have like to see the new m5 get bigger turbos to have a tremendous top end, electric supercharger to provide boost on the low-mid range, and the MG electric motor assist when not in boost and rpm are too low.

The price is crazy too - £111,400 to start in the UK, though the BMW website did ask me if I would like to consider "their offer".
The new M7 sure is neat!
Where does it stop with the power and weight of these cars? What’s the point at this point?
They should rename this to something like M560i or something 🤣🤣, because they still owe us (like I can afford one) a proper M5. Last gen was awesome! Shout out to the M5 CS.
What's going on with the BMW design team?
Their head of design got "moved" to rolls royce a month or two ago, so hopefully the new guy (from polestar) fixes it.
They made a newer F60. People are so oblivious... and just like to whine.
@@TC-lk2ev we can only hope
@@TC-lk2ev Polestar? God help BMW
@@fale892 Yeah, he's doing exactly that. Helping their design team because BMWs design has been universally hated for the last 5-6 years and polestar's has been consistently praised.

@@CIRCLEDARK hahahahahhaha
Very good review. I like that you pointed out the good and bad of the car.
Top Gear can learn a lot about doing reviews from Autotrader!!! TG's review put me to sleep... Good job and thank you!!!
The new M5 hybrid has over 100hp more than the previous gen yet it's slower from 100km/h to 200km/h according to autotopNL compared to last gen.
Its freaking fast as fuck.
Thanks for a comprehensive review. However, I do feel like the previous gen M5 has better dynamics. You just can't get around the laws of physics with increased mass. BMW had to do what "they had to do" due to Euro emission standards. I'll stick to the previous gen M5....
Nice job, very engaging commentary!
I’m looking forward to my M5 Touring early next year in the US.
Yikes @ the weight. Really curious what a non-plug-in version would be like with only a 2 kWh battery. Guesstimate ~100 kg reduction. Would like to see a comparison between the two.
Thanks for cutting to an external shot instead of showing us the transmission jerk from the interior camera 😒. So helpful.
Old M5. That battery made this gain weight by a crazy amount!!! I know they don't directly compare but it has the same horsepower as a 2023 Dodge Charger Hellcat and that didn't have any hybrid assistance...
The insane thing is, it's heavier than the fully electric performance i5. So it's not just the battery that's adding weight, they must be doing something else!
@@drunkenhobo8020 V8 4.4L is not a light engine with all the turbos. Only way to keep the V8 is to increase the weight. Despite it's heaviness it still delivers hell of a performance STOCK.
Old M5 had a really bad 55/45 weight distribution, 56/44 on M5 CS. That's worse than the audi RS7.
We know where to find the nearest bmw dealership but where do we find the jacket you are wearing?
When can I order this beauty?
Unfortunately bots can’t drive
You can order one right now in the UK, all you need is just over one hundred and eleven grand and a lobotomy.
I enjoy your reporting!
The previous gen M5 prices are gonna go through the roof
The energy you put into all your work is inspiring.
The glovebox 😂😂 7:59
The most critical and honest review of the car i have seen so far 🤔 others have been like a promotion.
Its all getting too expensive for nothing more... Hyundai Ioniq 5N does the 0-60 faster for half the money. In the real world, a decent 0-60 is all the fun your getting in the UK... Try that 195mph trick and you won't get out of jail for years.
Besides your excellent review your videos have also better quality and camera work than many movies!! Awesome scenery, angles, resolution, transitions, great work!!
Looks horrible.
It’s honestly not that bad
Not really
it's not as bad as the new m2 or m3/m4. kinda reminds me a bit of the e60 in the face.
@@SifisoMashiyane Stoz , you coming to M-Fest ?

Rory has become one of the best reviews on the Internet, excellent reviews
I think that the Problem with the generation of hybrid performance cars. Is that it has also coincided with them making cars so bloody ugly
From angles I’m looking at the Vauxhall vxr8 but I loved that car, I wouldn’t say no
Lite weight package!! Love it!!
12:00 try to use the electric mode if it's cold. Not working at all
It’s so weird how it only looks sporty from certain very low angles. From every normal angle it looks like your grandpas sedan.
The silhouette of the old one was so much more engaging.
The quality of this channel 😋😋😋
Rory, always enjoy your reviews. Question: is it true that the engine can charge the battery? I had read that it’s plugin to charge only. 👍😎🇺🇸🇺🇸
No sir, you can charge it also while just casually daily driving your car. I currently own an X5 45e and most of the time I’m charging my battery thanks to recuperation.
@@yaroslavbauer8137 Thanks for the reply. Cheers 👍
@@yaroslavbauer8137 excellent. Loved the idea of charging while on the move, which is why to me Hybrids make so much sense on a real world.
I feel that they missed the target with this vehicle. The m5 badge represented a driver-focused car that excelled in handling and dynamics.
The new M5 does not come with a V8. It has a Four Pot Turbo. I know that does not really help.
Does the M4 Comp spank this?
Depends what spank u want.
Track - M4C
Straight line - M5 without a single doubt.
Daily - M5
Enjoyfulness - M4C.
2 different cars, 2 differents approaches.
in a straight line M4 will shatered to pieces and thats whats all about the M5.
That “violent gear shift” is very familiar to those of us that owned the BMW E63 M6 (V10)..I love it!
Variable speed glovebox completely got me 😂
Mr Reid at his finest
I love the coat you’re sporting!
This car has a face only a mother would love
Sounds Amazing looks Amazing!
The kidney grill might be lit and still bigger than it was but it's not a bad as that last effort. I'd say it's more a compromise than a middle finger.
At least it's not as ghastly as in the 7 series.
0-62 in 3.5 seconds yet ive seen that same time figure given for 0-60 time. Which one is it?
Great Review brother
I need to do 500 miles to see my family and I want to drive quickly. This is the car to do it, the M5 has always been the car to do it and still is
Hey Flossy, thank you for the years of reviews, been watching your videos for almost a decade! What is your recommendation for gym ear buds? I prefer ones with silicon tips as those feel best for my ears and I want ones with the most insane bass!
why do you think carwow seems to be the only channel not promoting this new M5 ?
I would like to know too. I've watched many reviews about the new M5 on other channels but I'm still not satisfied. I want one done by Mat Watson.
@@bongamagagula8397 could be Matthew was just left out of the party by BMW

All bmw m cars look great in yellow ❤
Dude...this car is amazing ❤❤❤❤
Just hearing Rory talk about all the tech and 'configerability' made long for an e39 m5. Does all the power and tech make a more enjoyable car to actually drive?
13:30 the next m3 won’t be fully electric
They will release both an electric one and ice M3. The electric one apparently will have over 1000hp
Not of they haven't leaned from mercedes with c63
Rory; might braking be improved with changes to the regenerative braking system? My 2008 Prius can do that.
Dont know why but i love this color maybe i have a bad taste
Still one of my favourite cars all-time, ageing gracefully.
PS. Rory where did you get that jacket from 👌🏾
@6:09 No Diddy ⏸️

Literally only watching this because of your intro... loved the "light weight" package 😂 brilliant
I love all the hate reactions from these number-specialists who will never drive a car like this anyway.
Your jacket is amazing! I didn't even notice it until you stepped out the car.
Imagine if the M5 CS was just this car with the electric powertrain thrown out
The rear lights look like those of a Merc. Does it also come with silver arrows?
Intro was stolen from Throttle House. They just did that same balloon into on their Lotus Elise video.
Actually really like the muscular design and fact that they keep V8, just why so damn heavy :)
Rory great video :)
Looks like a Chrysler 300 and a Peugeot 508 had a baby.
The color yellow suits the car incredibly well!
A new car won't make you happy. You need to rethink your life goals if you think it will.
The competition is going to be special. If this thing can do 3.3 secs to 100… the competition will sort out much of the issues highlighted.
Also Rory, are you comparing it M5/M5 or do you have the competition in mind?
🇿🇦didn’t get the standard M5, so I’m wondering what you’re benchmarking against.
Truly a German machine ❤
How much was the video file size?
Beautiful machine if you look past that yellow
Exactly
I actually like it with yellow and Isle of Man Green
People at the start will obviously shit on it since it's a massive change both visually and mechanically but let's be real, it's still a damn beast in terms of performance, not to mention it's way more suitable as a daily with 68km fully electric while still having similar performance to it's predecessor.
Maybe that's the problem, too much daily, too little sport
Bot
@@971sina 😂
Yeah, it’s much clearer now that the M5 is for storming the Autobahn and being a posh daily. The M3 is likewise, clearly the family sports car in the range now. The customer segment is clear unlike last time when M5 was an M3 blown up and many said get the M3 because lighter, cheaper, smaller, etc.
it's slower to 60 than the old one
