    I’d like to add a vital part to owning a Shiba Inu for the first time. Make sure you give your new Shiba lots and lots of love, seriously. Through pets, hugs and kisses. Reason being is that if you don’t give that type of attention they’ll become more and more aloof and won’t listen to you. There will be times when you will have to discipline them, but after a while reassure them that you still love them. This type of bonding will especially help you with your shiba coming back to you when they’re off the lease or free roaming on a farm or acreage.

      @SuperShiba  3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      True, your Shiba knows whether you love him or not and the owner can still be firm on rules and discipline but with love.

      I agree! I've done that with ALL of my pets and people always wondered why they were so nice. I've had 4 cats in my life, none of them were mean and they all loved cuddles and affection. I've been doing this to my shiba puppy and she is still cuddly even after almost a month of being with me.

      Huh, I wonder if that's why of the three people that own shibas in my neighborhood, mine is the best behaved and friendliest. The other two owners don't seem to give their doges the same amount of attention and love I give mine. Their doges definitely shape up a bit whenever I get to interact with them and tell them how great and fuzzy and adorable they are.
      I think people should just give me their shibas, they clearly can't love them as much as I do.

    another tip is to remember to touch your dogs food, interact with them while they eat (don’t overdo it) take the food away and give it to them again so that they don’t develop aggression do to possessiveness towards the food. the same applies to spots in the house and toys!

    Yes to all this. I had NO idea that a dog could be so judgy. Shibas are the unicorns of the dog world in that they have the personality of a cat in the body of a dog. But WOW!!! The rewards are worth it. My sheeb is amazing and I wouldn't change a thing and I don't think I could go back to other breeds (god help me) 😍 💕 ❤️

    I've had many Shibas, some raised from pups, some adopted off the street and from agencies.
    All of them have been a Complete and Absolute Joy! You have 3 have lots of patience for this breed. You don't pick them, they pick You! So, if they did, consider yourself Blessed! We just lost my first boy that I raised from a tot, he was 15. Lett me tell you, he was oh so Special to me ♥️. My heart and soul were touched by his presence here in Earth. He got me though many tough times in my life, which I can never repay.🌈. Jimmy looks just like my first Shiba! God Bless You Jimmy!😘

    When I took my Shiba to her dermatologist for the first time, they had biting gloves and a thick towel to hold her down since they had bad experiences with Shiba Inus. They asked me if she was violent and I told her she is very stoic and will allow them to do the check up. They adore her since she is the nicest Shiba they know and it's because I always touched her paws, looked in her ears and mouth basically mimicking what a vet does at a check up. Your vet will thank you and the experience will be easier on your precious Shiba.

    here’s a list of some things that my shiba lightly destroyed for new owners to stay aware when puppy proving:
    toilet paper
    coffee table books
    water bottle caps
    bedside table leg
    plant pots
    socks
    cotton
    a small bit of the wall
    and others that i don’t remember...
    be sure to think like a dog when puppy proving your home (;

    • @larabarbatowolf803
      @larabarbatowolf803 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      some thing my family did to stop the dog from doing that in order:
      close the bathroom door
      put books out of reach
      always close bottles
      a SMALL amount of chilli paste (it licked it once and stayed away forever, use with caution)
      aluminum foil on top of the soil
      store them
      close drawers
      and again the chilli paste

    This is for EVERY dog but especially dogs like Shiba’s who are aloof. Being a pack leader is extremely important as this breed can become dominant and insecure if the owners don’t know what they are doing.

    • @blueshibai
      @blueshibai 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They can sense weakness, and since they have supreme confidence in their superiority, its better to be a pack leader from day one. Train yourself too! Shibas (and all dogs) need to KNOW what they are expected to do.

But my favourite moment with Poppy we when she spoke saying "no no " she was loyal and very loving and did as she was told. Sadly, I had to have her put to sleep, nearly 5 yrs ago. I own one...also ones they trust you and you became the pack leader...now you have to deal with a 2 year old kid that follows you every where and I mean every where it could become annoying at times and also ones stablishing their routine you best stick to it because he will demanded and your dog will act up if you break his routine. Good luck

    Shiba Inus are a very elegant and intelligent breed of dogs, look like a teddy, clever like a fox. But they can be stubborn and have a cat like personality to easily ignore you if it is not to their best interest, which is usually food. There are not too keen on petting or cuddling, very aloof about cuddles, and shed a lot, but they are super clean and easily potty trained...but not really for first time dog owners.

      It's good advice and Shibas are more difficult than other breeds so the advice is quite applicable in general. It's also so GOOD that USEFUL advice that benefits the dog is SHOWN to people to show:
      1. How much work is needed if you get a puppy (times x for Shibas)
      2. What works to make your dog come out well for itself and for the owners
      3. Sharing tips and experience to increase general knowledge vs people who choose a dog based only on looks/cuteness.
      These are some of the best Shiba videos on youtube because of this.

    We have a 4 months old Shiba inu yes he is very difficult and we try our best to do everything but he did something that is really strange 2 times when I disciplined him, he went upstairs to my room, peed and poop on the carpet and came down running fast, But I did not see him doing it. The interesting thing I have blocked the stairway From day one and he knows going upstairs is and no no he actually never seen it. I'm also not sure how he went up and came back so quickly and twice after I disciplined him On 2 different occasions. What does that mean ?

    • @SuperShiba
      @SuperShiba  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like he is showing his displeasure by pooping in a prohibited area. It can also simply be he didn't get enough potty breaks and he cannot hold too long. Make sure you are taking your dog out 3-4 times, especially after he has a big meal or drink a lot of water. Also should make sure the blocking mechanism is working as it intended to be 100%. Shiba inus are sneaky creatures and they love to explore prohibited space if given the chance to do so. Good luck!

      Hi thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel. 14 weeks is still really young, with our dog Jimmy I would say his behavior gets better after he is 2 years old. To correct the biting your legs issue I would apply the same discipline method by verbally tell him no and also don’t give him any attention for the action. You can also make an yepping sound like it hurts, that should help as well. Good luck!

    the desensitize thing is big especially when they're a puppy
    a lot of dogs are terrified of thunder, but my GSD handled it like a champ after his first experience
    he also takes a lot of abuse from other dogs or mishandling from kids, or even his food without being aggressive at all
    even taught him as a puppy not to bite people (because his little needle teeth hurt!)

    Can I know what gender is your Shiba inu? if it’s right that Female has longer nose?

    • @SuperShiba
      @SuperShiba  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi he is a boy named Jimmy. I never heard about female Shiba has longer nose, the only obvious difference between a female and male Shiba Inu that I know is the weight difference, female is typically a few pound lighter than a male.

    Can i have shiba inu in hot country

    • @SuperShiba
      @SuperShiba  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Alex, thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel. While I believe due to Shibas double coat they are more suitable in colder region I do see people have Shiba inu in warm weather as well. perhaps Shiba in warm weather might have thinner coat to adjust to the hot weather. good luck!

    I think they are nice dogs...but. I don't like the high pitched screaming when they get upset... my neighbors won't like it either.. and that snarling, and showing of the teeth when they get mad, that's not cool either. So that's a big no for me.
