My mother was the queen on etiquette. It resonates with me as of today. Manners are very important. How one dresses tell a lot about that person. There's a time and a place for jeans. It should not be worn in an opera concert as I saw it in Florida (Bocelli's concert) Thanks. It was refreshing. I wish people would adhere to good manners or improve their manners.
Completely agree with you, dressing well and appropriate is a must (teachings of my mother also) I get so repelled when I go to a fine dining restaurant and see people looking like they're going to the park! Also was at the theater for a ballet performance and most ppl without any proper etiquette, behaving inappropriately and dressed like they were going to Walmart!

It’s funny how that works. My mom comes from an upper middle class - almost aristocratic - background, and I remember the table manners and general etiquette she constantly instilled in me. To this day, I hate eating anywhere but the table. But, its allowed me to be somewhat comfortable in fine dining situations, and in business lunches.

There was a joke about some countess, which, to offend the guests, gave her plate to the dog for licking after the dinner, saying "this way, we save on washing up dishes before next meal".
I am sure that she is ... well, just a regular person, actually, who has knowledge of very niche type of information/skills. And those who are interested, will find her and learn what they need to, OR just be entertained by the content. 😊

I was eating with my grandparents and my grandma suddenly turns to me and whispers ”put the paper towel on your lap, you’re not a kid anymore”. After that experience I decided to research etiquette haha

My first grade teacher taught us good table manners. We had to wait for everyone to be served before eating during class parties. We were in an under resourced school but everyone from her class learned good table manners and how to read proficiently. When I transferred schools the following year, my new teacher thought I came from a private school (her students were still sounding out words). Thank you Mrs. Castillo.
I can just imagine how pleased Mrs. Castillo would be to read this. I pray she gets to see this, because it will make her heart sing. I remember doing what your Mrs. Castillo did many years ago with some of my kids at lunchtime. I’m so delighted that I learned these by taking an etiquette class in high school. It has served me so well in my profession. But I didn’t know about the thank you note to the host the next day. I quite like that idea. It’s very courteous and respectful. I’m going to try it. 🤗

I am so glad I found this channel. I never learned any of this when young and have suffered from a slight coordination disability, so as I re-learn coordination of activities I'm going to learn the proper etiquette way. It's never too late to learn!

Your table manners are impeccable. She's in Russia and I miss her so much. This was the nicest thing anyone has ever done. We left a 40% tip to our waitress. She was fenomenal.
These are not social skills, most of people don't know or use this stuff. This is mostly for rich people who are dinning at some high-end restaurants. I'm sad you feel like you need to do this in order to impress people. Good social skills would be helping an old lady in the elevator, holding a door for someone, feeding a stray cat in front of your building... Acts of kindness come in all shapes and sizes. Do that and god will love you much more than for simply holding a fork in the "right" way.

how about you use your own brain and just think of how you would like to be hosted and then do it that way? why let someone else tell you what is "right" or "wrong"?

I am really thankful to my dad for teaching me all this when I was little. Now, thanks to that and years of experience, I don't need to think much about it as it has become my second nature.
Im so thankful for my friends' grandmother who at age 9 taught us dinning etiquette & Tea party etiquette. This knowledge helps a lot when you want to make a nice impression.

The hardest part about this is expecting the establishment to be able to keep up with your manners, but realistically this will only be applicable in certain circles that already know quite well about all the etiquette and are expected to act accordingly.
I grew up learning this from my grandmother, it's a nice refresher, also great to inform me about the glasses...since my family never consumed wine or Champaign, that was always left out of my grandmother's etiquette lessons.
it is typically used by the upper class at formal dinner gatherings as these forms of eating etiquettes show you have class and have manners. i had to attend one of these "formal" like events for a huge family gathering in the past. half of the people there were wealthy, while the other half (myself included) were in the middle to middle upper class level. needless to say, it was quite intriguing to watch 3 different class structures. one being wealthy and having these subtle etiquettes that give a person "class" as well as their oozing aura of presence that is almost palpable. second being wealthy but lacking in these forms of etiquettes. basically having money but lacking in class. they dont have that much of a presence as the ones who carry themselves with that aura of godlike and class. you can probably mistake them for just being upper middle class. and finally, the common folks who lack in both money and knowledge of these social rules and manners but try their best to adapt and fit in to their surroundings so that they dont stand out in a negative way.
11:32 yes I totally agree about the note thing!! When people invite me to their home for a dinner or wedding/baby shower, I like to give them a thank you note the next day or next time I see them. It always makes a good impression. 😅

I'm glad TH-cam recommended me a video with an elegant lady who presents in a very understandable way a video, neither too long nor too short, on how to be comfortable at a dining table. I'm not sure in other countries, but a basic restaurant in France, even though it might not have all the cutlery, most of what you teach here is actually usefull and can be put in practice.

This was actually taught in my high school home economics class. We also had a class that prepared us for job interviews, resume writing, proper attire for interviews. I guess the world no longer deem these classes valuable to the society.

A whole year late, but I'd say having proper etiquette does set you apart from crowd. Even though younger people nowadays don't know that's it's an etiquette, it still leaves behind a very good impression. What's wonderful about having them is that over time we wouldn't even have to actively try to do it, we'd be natural at it and only notice how far we've come when someone points it out. It still makes a person appear high class.

Coming from an italian family with academics and sportsmen followed by antique dealers, I was raised with all sorts of etiquette. This brings me so much childhood nostalgia watching this video.
and also, "no elbow on the table", "both hands on the table at any time', "don't speak with food in your mouth","don't make noise with your utensils in your plate', "don't make noise with your mouth when eating or drinking", "don"t cross over someone else"s plate", "fork and knife shall be in your hands at all times for starter and main dish". This is simple education and good manners.

I’m about to go out to a fancy restaurant to celebrate my new boyfriend’s birthday in front of all of his friends. I’m seeing some of them for the first time so I really want to leave a good impression. It’s also my first time going out without my family of closest friends, in front of whom it wouldn’t be terrible to do some mistakes. i am in my late teens, but i have always liked the idea of being elegant and authoritative. my friends always call me the feminine, elegant one of our group and even the whole school! recently after exams we went to a rather high-end cafe, and everyone kept asking me to order, or talk to the waiter for anything we needed. even the bill was brought to me! it really opened my eyes lol

Actually, I know there are employers out there who will conduct “brunch” interviews and based on etiquette (as opposed to experience alone), they will hire (or not) their interviewee. It’s especially important when your job position will require you to dine with specific people who are in high positions regularly.
I really doubt that in my country there are employers that may score their interviewers like that. But just in case, I think it could be a great impression for them.

These are lessons that every responsible adult should have taught their children. Born in the 60’s, and basically to working poor parents, it was the norm to have been taught dining etiquette. It was used at church dinners, having meals at family and neighbors homes, and also when we went to above average restaurants where we had to dress semi formal.
Yes it is true I hate seeing people in my young age laughing at that or saying things like "I dont need a men or "This is so stupid like,why? It is good to know.

Without men, we women would not be here. Men are simply better at some things because their bodies are built differently than women's. Men are important in a way. I’m so delighted that I learned these by taking an etiquette class in high school. It has served me so well in my profession. But I didn’t know about the thank you note to the host the next day. I quite like that idea. It’s very courteous and respectful. I’m going to try it. 🤗

Your table manners are impeccable. She's in Russia and I miss her so much. This was the nicest thing anyone has ever done. We left a 40% tip to our waitress. She was fenomenal.

These are not social skills, most of people don't know or use this stuff. This is mostly for rich people who are dinning at some high-end restaurants. I'm sad you feel like you need to do this in order to impress people.
Good social skills would be helping an old lady in the elevator, holding a door for someone, feeding a stray cat in front of your building... Acts of kindness come in all shapes and sizes. Do that and god will love you much more than for simply holding a fork in the "right" way.

The hardest part about this is expecting the establishment to be able to keep up with your manners, but realistically this will only be applicable in certain circles that already know quite well about all the etiquette and are expected to act accordingly.

I grew up learning this from my grandmother, it's a nice refresher, also great to inform me about the glasses...since my family never consumed wine or Champaign, that was always left out of my grandmother's etiquette lessons.

it is typically used by the upper class at formal dinner gatherings as these forms of eating etiquettes show you have class and have manners. i had to attend one of these "formal" like events for a huge family gathering in the past. half of the people there were wealthy, while the other half (myself included) were in the middle to middle upper class level. needless to say, it was quite intriguing to watch 3 different class structures. one being wealthy and having these subtle etiquettes that give a person "class" as well as their oozing aura of presence that is almost palpable. second being wealthy but lacking in these forms of etiquettes. basically having money but lacking in class. they dont have that much of a presence as the ones who carry themselves with that aura of godlike and class. you can probably mistake them for just being upper middle class. and finally, the common folks who lack in both money and knowledge of these social rules and manners but try their best to adapt and fit in to their surroundings so that they dont stand out in a negative way.
11:32 yes I totally agree about the note thing!! When people invite me to their home for a dinner or wedding/baby shower, I like to give them a thank you note the next day or next time I see them. It always makes a good impression. 😅

I'm glad TH-cam recommended me a video with an elegant lady who presents in a very understandable way a video, neither too long nor too short, on how to be comfortable at a dining table. I'm not sure in other countries, but a basic restaurant in France, even though it might not have all the cutlery, most of what you teach here is actually usefull and can be put in practice.

This was actually taught in my high school home economics class. We also had a class that prepared us for job interviews, resume writing, proper attire for interviews. I guess the world no longer deem these classes valuable to the society.

A whole year late, but I'd say having proper etiquette does set you apart from crowd. Even though younger people nowadays don't know that's it's an etiquette, it still leaves behind a very good impression. What's wonderful about having them is that over time we wouldn't even have to actively try to do it, we'd be natural at it and only notice how far we've come when someone points it out. It still makes a person appear high class.

Coming from an italian family with academics and sportsmen followed by antique dealers, I was raised with all sorts of etiquette. This brings me so much childhood nostalgia watching this video.
and also, "no elbow on the table", "both hands on the table at any time', "don't speak with food in your mouth","don't make noise with your utensils in your plate', "don't make noise with your mouth when eating or drinking", "don"t cross over someone else"s plate", "fork and knife shall be in your hands at all times for starter and main dish". This is simple education and good manners.

i am in my late teens, but i have always liked the idea of being elegant and authoritative. my friends always call me the feminine, elegant one of our group and even the whole school! recently after exams we went to a rather high-end cafe, and everyone kept asking me to order, or talk to the waiter for anything we needed. even the bill was brought to me! it really opened my eyes lol

Actually, I know there are employers out there who will conduct “brunch” interviews and based on etiquette (as opposed to experience alone), they will hire (or not) their interviewee. It’s especially important when your job position will require you to dine with specific people who are in high positions regularly.

These are lessons that every responsible adult should have taught their children.
Born in the 60’s, and basically to working poor parents, it was the norm to have been taught dining etiquette. It was used at church dinners, having meals at family and neighbors homes, and also when we went to above average restaurants where we had to dress semi formal.
