SATNAV: my son asked me why I carry a map when I have satnav? Because a SATNAV is an aid to navigation not a navigational aid Stunning scenery and yet again Charlie another great vlog love the banter between you all you have good friends. As always Charlie keep safe and the rubber side down.
Wow! Good job on that gravel road! And I salute the rider of the Rocket 3. The scenery was worth it, though... well, for us sitting at home anyway! 😂 What a beautiful church. Thank you for sharing. The passage with the waterfall was amazing! Fairytale like. Ride safe!
Blimey! A true adventure. That's what it's all about. Who gives an expletive if you had to turn around, the scenery looked fantastic and well worth the journey. Thanks for sharing Charlie.
Thanks for posting! Even though it didn't turn out as you had first imagined, it was an adventure! 🤭. If I could offer the opinion, the 450 MT you have named Bella, will take this sort of trail in her stride. Bags of power and light weight will see you riding this sort of trail and not worrying about it. I do think also, a bit of "Paper Map Planning" would be a good preparation for off road riding. GPS / Google Maps are full of these sort of nasty gravel road traps, whereas a paper map will show you where the tarmac ends. Ride safe!
Wow Charlie what a brilliant adventure. The only way it could be worse is to try it blindfolded next time😂 Great vid well done to all for perseverance.
Hi Charlie Just watched your video and surprised you tackled that Sotres to Espinama trail 😬 I remember sending you a msg in Instagram when I saw you were going out there a week or so after me and I said I had put my back out after 3 drops at that very section you turned around at. Ibeas there again last week after La Rioja and stayed a few nights actually in Espinama, the end of that trail and where I started it as I did it the other direction- respect for trying it but it’s challenged a lot of riders as it always looks so easy in the videos but is the polar opposite in reality. Glad you managed a U turn on that scree- respect indeed 😊
Reminds me of a Euro trip years ago crossing Belgium. I was at the front blindly following the Satnav, took a turn and was instantly on a steep downhill slope that was nothing more than a deeply rutted soft mud track, I had no choice but to ride down it as I couldn't reverse or turn around. I was on a Tiger 1050, so it was a challenge but do able. My mates were on a BMW RT and a GSX1400, and just assumed I knew where I was going. Riding down there loaded up with luggage slipping and sliding was a nightmare. I got some stick after we got clear. Lol. Same thing almost happened in Scotland last year, a friend was leading and watched as he rode off the end of the tarmac, I stopped and so did his wife on her bike. I laughed my head off, while we pushed him back onto solid ground.
I think we probably all knew Jay would get that trail done….and yes, we do need more of his ‘dulcet Bristol tones’ 😀 I’m surprised they all let you lead again the next day Charlie…but to be fair, when you get lost you find some spectacular scenery to be lost in 😀
Enjoying your videos of the fantastic Pico's roads and area (I've been once and going again in 2025). You had the same problem that Richy Vida had a few years ago when they tried to get up that road on VFR800's. They now all have adventure bikes and do this trail every time they're there. His videos of that road are stunning.
Wow just watched part 3 Brilliant, well done Charlie, you'll alll had a good time, and terrain was brilliant. I'm going to do it next month on my 883iron. Lol. JAY is brilliant. Keep going lol. Going to visit the church. Looking forward too the next episode. What happen to the falling over bikes? Ride safe and look forward to the next episode. Now in Saigon and I wouldn't ride a bike or anything here its mad 😂🤟
Hi Charlie, The off road adventure is one you'll never forget, what a stunningly beautiful place to discover😊 Might have been a bit hairy at the time but still...Wow.!! Can't wait for the next episode.👍😊
What a lovely morning ive had. From my home in damp Cornwall, watching your fantastic vids. I did those roads in a Defender some years ago and am now planning for my wife and i to take my Jeep Wrangler up there. Having watched these three vids though i may go up on my newly aquired Himalayan, which seems the perfect bike for it. I have a 1200 Vmax as well, but wouldn't dare. The Rocket and Z guys must be crazy. Really very enjoyable watching for my wife and i. Looking forward to more. Ride safe.
That is actuallly part of the Spanish TET!. Runs from Espinama to Sotres. Stunning up there. But you were wise to turn around. from where you turned it gets steeper and the rocks are larger, it climbs. when you reach a catlle grid is gets better and easier and more spectacular.
Good Morning Charlie & the guys , Wow that was a awesome trail & the views were stunning , good old Rodger he never misses a beat , take care & ride safe all of yous
I keep meaning to say Charlie, thank you for your service. My dad has now retired from service, but was an Ambulance driver before I was born in the 70's. My wife was also a paediatric critical care nurse at Great Ormand Street Hospital in London specialising in Ectopia cordis among other cardiac issues in babies and young children
Great episode again! There's no reason to loose your confidence. I see you negotiate the hairpins very well so there's nothing wrong with your riding skills. You probably know it already but somewhere in Tomtom you can tick a box which says: Avoid unpaved roads. Maybe this can help you in the future. Looking forward to the next episode!! Take care and drive safely Charlie!!
Thank you for that. Great video Charlie. What an amazing experience with beautiful views sorry you weren’t able to make it all the way up that hill, but turning around is the safer thing to do, looking forward to the next video thank you
Another great one Charlie. What views, that is some road. Jay you have to hand it to short people..................... as they can't reach it themselves. If I was a certain type of person I would almost be smelling a setup here. The ONLY bike sort of built for that road just happened to belong to the trip leader/Navigator :) :) :)
That trail was tough going! Never easy to decide whether to push on or turn back. Stunning scenery everywhere 😍. The church was awesome. Great vlog as usual, look forward to the next instalment 👍
Lovely video Charlie some off road adventure riding for the group our group made it to the cable car spectacular views from up there hope you get to see it or a reason for another trip looking forward to the next episode
Well what can I say Jay is a star, all that way on the mountain trail , I did that rout in my Suzuki jimmy jeep, a couple of times, covadonga, been to mass there many times Palaeolithic, well he was fighting the moors who were trying to over come Spain and at night they slept knowing in the morning they were beaten by so many moors but he prayed all night long fell asleep for a couple of hours and in the morning looked down the mountain to find the moors gone, good ride and great memories for me, thankful you four intrepid motorcyclists, NW biker dude, alias Bay Bimbler
The Moors = Is slimmists. History is repeating itself. Sadly hundreds of churches in France have already been vandalised or set on fire. The main cathedral in Rouen was burning a few days ago. It's not simply coincidence.
Another beautiful ride Charlie, well for the most part😂That took me back to my e bike trip a couple of months ago when I took a wrong turn on a path and ended up cycling my road bike up a forest road, I met a few mountain bikers who gave me some strange looks🤣Thankfully I found my way back to the path after some insane climbs and descents😂
Roger did you extremely proud! It's not just about pure power, it's about the best bike for the job at hand. If you had your CFMOTO 450MT, you'd have an even better experience. The Rocket 3 or the Kawasaki Z900RS are things of beauty, but they are not a bike for green laning or off roading.
Great roads and scenery, well done for getting as far as you guys did on the track. I’m currently using a Garmin Zumo XT which gives normal routes or adventurous routes… normal keeps you on tarmac and adventurous could take you on tracks. I’m still riding around in Northern iItaly and Switzerland and it hasn’t let me down yet 🤞🤞
Good grief Charlie! That episode had Margaret on the edge of her seat! She doesn't 'do' heights either 🤣We thoroughly enjoyed the video and the scenery was spectacular! Kudos to Jonny on the 'off-roading' Rocket3 too! 🤗
Wow. You were so brave on that trail. Well done for trying. You all managed to get sooo far. Shame it got too much for the biked. Its certainly a beautiful area. Xx
True motorcycling adventure not knowing where you are going. A little TH-cam research in advance (lots and lots of people go to Picos just to ride that trail) or a copy of a paper map and you'd probably have missed it completely. It's "easier" from the other direction. All power to you, I've watched several TH-cam videos where folks don't manage to get Adventure bikes up that slope where your pals stopped the 2 roadbikes. Vida’s video was mainly dramatic hype. I said at the time that I sincerely hoped his presentation didn’t put too many people off. It’s a very accessible route on the right bike and easier from the south heading north. I have done it on my 500X and the scenery is spectacular.
Great riding by you Charlie. Had it not been for the Rocket, you would have made it through. Unmade roads like this are a real challenge in the mountains. So darn dry and rocky!! Let down by the non Himalayan's though, these are awesome machines.
I think I'd have liked to try and push on if I'd kept the pace up, but had no idea what Kay ahead and knew when to call it a day, it was a group day out and no man got left behind! ( One did go on ahead tho. 🤣)
Brilliant roads with small tunnel after tunnel, fair play to the lad riding a rocket up that track , Roger was doing well too, what an impressive pink limestone church and that waterfall, well done to all and especially Jay for riding on through the track 👍
Rocket 3 on the TET. One word, 'Respect' or 'Madness'. Delete as appropriate 😂, seriously well done though. That's why it's called Adventure Riding. You had a great one 👌
@@restdayrider I'm taking a group to the Picos in September. I've been watching your videos with interest and taking notes. Keep the good times rolling. I'm liking it 😁
All part of life's full tapestry😉and there is Google going " trust the system , trust the system " Nice Thrappidge throughout the ride , Roger's gearing was made for them thar hills
I don't mind heights, it's the edges that get me. I stay away from 'em. Taking that Rocket 3 on that track was, er, an interesting decision. Surprised he got as far as he did.
I ‘think’ this may have been the same track RichyVida and team had issues with - see his episode ‘ Drama on the mountain - Sotres to Espinama ‘. Fair play to you, I wouldn’t have attempted it even if the road route was an extra 3 hrs!
if Tomtom is wrong, ask to JohnJohn 🤣🤣 last year in the french Alps Google maps has lost me near a skiing facilities. i was on a very narrow dirt trail about 3 feet large (with my Triumph Speed Twin 1200) and the Google lady tell me: "stay on the right lane"🤣🤣 you can find it in this video à 17:24 th-cam.com/video/VQ3rAjA62-c/w-d-xo.html
Famous last words "The TomTom is always wrong" came to rather bite you! Well Google maps could have potentially got you into a lot of trouble had you not turned around. You tried to ride the famous Sotres to Espinama off road trail. It is really steep and rough in places. It is the GR202 walking trail. I recognised it straight away and realised you'd either have to turn around at some point or get stuck. I can't imagine how scared the rider of the Triumph Rocket would have been as it is no place for a cruiser. Do you just use Google maps or other mapping eg TomTom, not or paper maps to find suitable routes? I have the Spanish IGN maps for the Picos NP which are equivalent to our OS 1:25k Maps in the UK. They clearly show the trail you were on is an off road trail the GR202. I got these the first day I arrived in Potes. They are extremely detailed. Maybe next time you go pick some up? The cable car for Fuente De is best approached from Potes along the CA185 where there is lots of parking at the Fuente De cable car station which is at about 1100m. How you would manage on it if you have vertigo I have no idea. It looks every bit as scary as those in the Alps or in the classic cable car scene in Where Eagles Dare with Richard Burton. The cable car at Fuente De goes up the spectacular cliff face to around 1700m. I'm not scared of heights but there is no way I would go on it. Instead I did a one day circular walking trail PR25 which starts and finishes in Fuente De taking about 6.5 hours and gives stunning views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The final descent down a mountain path adjacent to where the cable car goes up the cliff face at Fuent De is simply stunning. Fantastic views. Love the Picos de Europa. Lovely footage of Covadonga and the basilica at the end.
Thank you for all your helpful tips. We did have a paper map too, and had actually planned to do this trail another day when we would send the road bikes a different loop, however we ended up on it by accident. 🤣
Oh wow.! I think I would have needed fresh clothes riding along that drop off. Not scared of heights using the appropriate safety equipment but that was Terrifying, even to watch. 😮
I met a short guy on a Rocket 3 in Morocco some years ago and he coped with tracks like that with no problem. Your muppet needs to fit suitable tyres - if he hadn't stopped Roger would have been completely OK, he's made for tracks like that.🕊
Up on the foot pegs don't look down bum as far back as you can get it look 100 yards ahead you have only two burms to take because of the camber of the road start with the inside and if not suiting you move to the outside. X Moto cross rider and remember if in trouble stop.💋
@@restdayrider yea.. But I have a feeling it was the company of the "unsuitable" bikes that messed it up for you.. If it had just been you, following Jay, I think there's a good chance you would have made it.. 🤔 😎
I've never heard of anyone getting a Rocket 3 on a dirt trail. Congratulations. You are true pioneers!
He'll try anything that bloke. 🤣
SATNAV: my son asked me why I carry a map when I have satnav? Because a SATNAV is an aid to navigation not a navigational aid

Can't wait for the next instalment, hope things are OK?
It's just been released!
@@restdayrider excellent thanks 😊
Feel for you.
The route is lovely and the Himalayan is the best bike to do it on.
Thank you for all your helpful tips. We did have a paper map too, and had actually planned to do this trail another day when we would send the road bikes a different loop, however we ended up on it by accident. 🤣
So is Jay using Tom Tom and Charlie using a different app?
I was using Google maps.
Oh wow.!
I think I would have needed fresh clothes riding along that drop off.
Not scared of heights using the appropriate safety equipment but that was Terrifying, even to watch. 😮
Luckily I didn't really see it til I watched the footage back. 🤣
Whatever happened to a simple map stuck on a tank bag?
Bit tricky with all the road works and diversions, id have to keep stopping to look! 😊
I met a short guy on a Rocket 3 in Morocco some years ago and he coped with tracks like that with no problem. Your muppet needs to fit suitable tyres - if he hadn't stopped Roger would have been completely OK, he's made for tracks like that.🕊
My Muppet wasn't planning on trail riding. 🤣
Don't really understand why the Rocket and Kawa even considered attempting that road... !!?
Because it's fun! ( Until it's not, then we turned around)
I've had them both, the TomTom Rider is better than the Garmin Zumo. More intuitive menu's and better adventure routes, kronkelroutes we call them.
Tomtom happened to be right in this instance 😂
Really? How bizarre. Give me the Garmin any day.
Up on the foot pegs don't look down bum as far back as you can get it look 100 yards ahead you have only two burms to take because of the camber of the road start with the inside and if not suiting you move to the outside. X Moto cross rider and remember if in trouble stop.💋
A shit day Charlie but nobody was hurt.
It was actually fun AFTERWARDS, when we joked about giving it another go. 🤣
@@restdayrider 😅
How can anybody describe that as a shit day out?
Hmm.. that wasn't a trail though, that was just an unpaved (& somewhat steep) smaller road.. a trail is a lot more basic..🤔🧐😉
Trail, track or farm path, it was tricky enough for me. 🤣
@@restdayrider yea.. But I have a feeling it was the company of the "unsuitable" bikes that messed it up for you.. If it had just been you, following Jay, I think there's a good chance you would have made it.. 🤔 😎
@@leifiseland1218 I may have made it a bit further, but was happy nonetheless 😊
😂
This Spanish music not good , just lost the euros 😢
🤣😭
Love the Himalayan ! Not sure if the CFMOTO is right for you 💭🤔❤️💪👍😀😁🏁🏍️🛺🐑🇵🇭🏴💐
The CF Moto will be great. Just as good as the Himalayan on that route.
Oh She'll be just fine. ☺️
Hey Charlie do you know why those cows had big bells ?
Their horns didn’t work …. I’ll get my coat 🧥
