I have ridden in some superb parts of the world. Iconic places. Colorado, to the Himalayas. Greece to South Africa to Iceland. The world is a beautiful and we're meant to look at it. But we're also guided by the internet and guide books way too much.
I've never heard the Picos De Europa or Asturias talked about as stunning mountains, empty or anything other than being good roads not too far from the UK. That is selling it short like you cannot imagine. Trust me. This place should be on the list of places you want to ride in your lifetime.
It's beautiful, vast and full of incredible culture and history. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Big nostalgia. I've done several trips to the Picos, including one or two of the sections on the video. The important thing to grasp is how wild and empty it is. Even sticking to paved roads you can ride for hours and see half-a dozen vehicles, two bars (one shut), zero fuel stops, and a scattering of ancient hamlets unchanged since the middle ages. There are countless unmade trails but you are on your own. Don't expect that someone will be along to help you out. You can't just nip off the trail for fuel. It can turn from hot sun to bitterly cold and wet overnight. There is a minor injuries unit in Potes (how do I know this?) but for any significant injury or breakdown you have to get yourself and bike to Santander or Bilbao.
Fabulous place, but wild and unforgiving.
Totally agree. Notes isn't exactly a big town. Really took me back how wild it was! Really loved that feeling of empty trails in the mountains.
Yep! I'm from Spain , living in Santander. I'm a long distance dirt rider too. The difference between Spain and other remote and wild places to ride is a big important one: If you have an accident, like a friend of mine had in a remote area of Pyrinees... you will be picked up by an helicopter in 1 hour and taken to an european hospital. I had the same experience in Morocco and we were fucked this time
Cheers
@@salvareo Thank you, useful to know. Santander is easy access from the UK, and the Picos only one hour away from Santander, so a UK rider might not realise that it is a whole different ball game from what they are used to in the UK.
Beautiful video!!! I've been through Picos de Europa, Asturias, Cantabria (Santander) many times (being Spanish and living here helps) and I feel there are still hundreds of places to visit and roads to ride. Last route I did was called "Around Asturias": 1.000 kilometers riding a circular route through Picos and the north coast. I still dream around riding there, every corner is a surprise, lovely local people, there is always a bar to stop by and a have a chat to ask for new routes where you can ride. Rain in one mountain, sunny in the next valley. I've been in the Pyrenees this summer and it was great, but I still prefer Picos de Europa. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip and hope you do many others!
I really like to attempt at more of a story telling theme.....it's noticeable, unpredictable, and refreshing in a way that doesn't distract from the content. Keep evolving and bringing us on the journey.
Kind words. I'll keep trying 👌😊
Agreed, the narration is very soft and quiet. Add some volume and compression 👍
I feel blessed as a spaniard living in the north of spain and owning an adv motorbike.
Great video!!! Loved it.
I need some of this in my life..❤️
Brilliant.
Thanks Paul!
What a stunning location, now firmly decided this will be my first away ride outside the UK
was there in May en route to a Trans Portugal attempt, TET, and bits and bobs, like you things did'nt go smooth, snow, fire, punctures, lost subframe bolt, call to the emergency service and finally the shits for four days. A great eye opener for those that dont know. Nice vid and nice words too.
I'm happy you enjoyed my homeland and its wild beauty!
Every year I make a 6 days enduro-trail-road trip in the Northwest of Spain and it is always awesome.
If you ever come back let me know and I'll show you some other nice places.
We will post if we have a plan to!
Beautiful mate…I really enjoyed that 11 minute escape. There’s only a few quality ADV content creators I watch & yours is one..thanks for your efforts 🤙🏻
Yep. This is epic
Wow, thanks!
Thanks Brock!
It's such a beautiful video..much thank..keep us on your adventures ..
Bloody hell, if that doesn't make you want to get off your backside and book some ferry tickets, you're dead from the neck down.
Lel, your films are getting better and better - you're fast becoming the UK's answer to RyanF9 and we bloody love you for it.
High words indeed. Can you send an email to Brittany ferries and tell them 😂 I spend too much money with them!
A piece of art. Lovely and evocative.
Awesome film, great shots and your passion shone through. This is the new benchmark for moto travel on TH-cam.
Thanks a ton! Really kinda words man.
Amazing video Llel, simply amazing! Thanks for sharing!! 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great Video Great landscape. I love it 🎉
Another fascinating video - thank you 👍
Hay....this is one of my favourite videos you've ever done! Awesome, thanks again from CANADA!
Wow, thanks!
Llel, I think your video really does justice to the Picos area of northern Spain. Loved it and shared with my biker mates. Going for the 4th time in September. The scenery, roads, food and people amazing. Thanks 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent as usual lel not jealous at all spent nine days in Portugal this may and stopped of at potes on the way home and had a three day ride ...epic scenery and terrain can't wait to gp back and ride more of it..
Beautifully done Lell. What a great ride!
Thank you kindly!
Fantastic and stunning! Thank you for this video, you have totally inspired me to do it and now i have down sized to a 300 rally I can conker the world 😆
Brilliant. Morning coffee from chilly central Ohio took me from here to there.
Now, to modify the bucketlist...
Well done, thank you from Canada.
Amazing trip, great video production! keep it up!
Thanks a ton! Glad you enjoyed.
I've scoured YT for everything Picos (motorcycle) related, I'm not particularly hooked on the TET but this is the most interesting and well put together video of the region that I've seen. Most are absolute garbage consisting of a POV ride with not a great deal more, but this is how a proper bike travel video should be so well done and thank you!
Thanks! The kindest words. Trying to make stuff easy to watch and inspiring!
Honestly, the TET loop here is really something special. The Linesman did an insanely good job.
Brilliant Llel
What a brilliant video Amigo. Thank you ❤
Thanks!
Holy Moly that's a great film! :)
Thanks!
Love it full of ups n (very minor) downs..would love to do the picos, hidden gem for now, sort of 😉 great footage 👌🤜
Thanks 👍 I hope it becomes less hidden.
That’s a great video. Book a ferry. Fill the tank. Ride. 👍🏻
Great video, hope I can find some of those tracks next year. Love your spirit mate!
I’m told by my friend Grahm that you live near him in Wales. I met him at Isle of Man TT in 22 and he is kind enough to store my bike for me until I return.
Love what you do and keep plugging man. Would sponsor but I’m a poor traveler 🤨
What a dream ride.
Awesome looks absolutely stunning
Thanks so much 😊
Beautifully done!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video. Well captured!
We were out there too in latter August. Stunning rides and recognisable views, though weather mixed.
It's the mountains. It's gonna rain 😂 Thanks for the kind words.
I did the Sotres to Espinama trail both ways in June on my Tracer 700 road bike. Loved doing that trail, plus we found many other high trails too over the week we were there.
Great video, enjoyed this
Glad to hear it!
wow, what a view
Great video, great trip. Well done. I will travel there next summer...
Have fun!
Great footage, excellent editing, loved the music as well, Top marks , Rich T Teamsnapper
Thanks Rich! 😊
Great episode mate
Thanks!
i have but one thumb to give sadly. This was excellent and inspiring! Thanks.
Thanks!
Such a good trip, great film
Great storytelling Llel. I struggle to make videos this short and to the point 😂
You and me both! Takes some brutal cutting 😂
Great story Lel. I've done the roads around the Peco's and the ACT Portugal, but not that section of the TET. Must put it on my list.
You should! I truly joyous ride.
Can't wait for the full-length version
You are joking 😂
Great film Lel, Nice to see you sometime. Mark.
Thanks, you too!
Feeling inspired to book a ferry crossing and pack my bike up for an adventure!
The drone footage was great
Go for it!
@@BrakeMagazineWas it straightforward to get permission to use the drone in the national park?
brilliant- thank you :)
Glad you liked it!
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
I was totally absorbed in your video and your narrative. Excellent. I look forward to more of same, but not same if you get my drift. How was the desert X? I’ve heard good things. Should I sell something to buy one as I’m keeping my v4 pikes peak awhile yet? Or maybe get something older/cheaper and do some trails . Great vid 👏👏👍
I am fortunate enough to live in Asturias, and live an hour away from the Picos. Potes is one of my favourite places along with Cangas De Onis! I am glad you like this area, we do too!
Safe riding.
Wonderful!
Just found your channel. Great work.
Welcome aboard!
I discovered this while motorcycling through Northern Spain and Portugal and wondered what the far away `hills` were ..wow indeed . Watch out for over enthusiastic motorcycles over cooking corners in overloaded touring bikes was my only worry whilst there. I watched the Spain /Italy world cup match in a camp site there , i said i supported Italy ..hilarious !.
I was gonna go to Norway, I think you've changed my mind. Cracking video 😁
I mean, Norway doesn't sound bad! Spain is a fair bit cheaper though 🤣
@@BrakeMagazine I am from Yorkshire, so that's a strong appeal 🤣
Phenomenal short movie, definitely worth the wait! It seems some tough editorial decisions were made to keep the length down to satisfy the short attention spans out there... bit of a shame. I bet the cutting room floor for this one has some gems!
It always does. The murder your darlings principle is always in hard effect. Some of the drone shots are really long and beautiful 😅 TH-cam is a cruel place for this stuff though.
Funny enough my last trip was this section of TET and down into Portugal. I lost my jacket with my passport in it (probably in a similar place, only about 2 hours off the ferry), broke my phone while fixing my sidestand and then my bike was stolen in Bilbao while I was getting my emergency passport. With all the shit going wrong I didn't manage to make it into the Picos proper so I will have to go back sometime.
Mate, what a fuckin nightmare. You absolutely need to go back 👌
We made him come, it’s true and he loved it!
Yew!
I've been there and I can only agree
all i have to say 👏👏👏👏 very nice
Thanks a lot 😊
Not FIRST
Love you guys!!!
😂
how far out do you stick the 360 out to get the nice full side shots as i seem to not have mine out as far but dont wana go crazy far if you get what i mean. great video loved it i will be looking to get ADV and maybe heading down some of those trails soon
oh yes i was in Spain and it has amazing roads and views, its country made for bikers. I was in car unfortunately but some day for sure ill do trip with bike there.
Best to go there in winter or any other season thats not summer because its just too hot, and its almost constantly full sun, a little too long without shade quickly becomes not just uncomfortable but just dangerous; wear white only ;
southern France also have amazing views and curvy country roads; just need to be careful they have very high tickets and zero tolerance for over the speed limit
This area is really Spring and Autumn. It's around 2000m at the tops, so it'll be covered in the snow.
I used to offroad in the picos national park a few years ago . until they stopped it !( think its a 600 euro fine if you ride in the park ... but there i still on fantasic route that i legal . starts at Esspinama ( 4 mile before fuenti de ) and ends at sotres. This is the best way to ride it
Armenia has some great riding along the transcaucasian trial
Off down to Desierto Tatacoa and the worderfully named ''Trampoline de la Muerte'' tomorrow!
Yew! Enjoy. Stoked you're back riding!
Brilliantly told and editted Lel. Those views! Almost felt like I was there but I know it wasnt a fraction of what it was actually like.
Would you ever consider a vid of a lot of just riding, like semi-editted b-roll riding footage along the super scenic trails?
Not on the main channel. I'm considering a second one with those kinda videos for sure., kinda like Brake Magazine Longer. The problem is that my audience and the algorithm are fickle creatures and don't watch anything but MiniTip Monday. I nearly didn't post this.
@@BrakeMagazine I’ve noticed the variation in the number of views. Seems odd to me. But the longer vids might give you more uploads, play the YT game etc. Glad you posted this vid.
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Definitely much better than my own trip to the Picos and I thought that was a pretty awesome trip in itself!
Glad you enjoyed it! Sounds like you have to go back for more!
wicked vid mate, hopefully there next year do you reckon i'll get my multi v4 around most of that?
No idea, never ridden one. Depends on how you ride, but possible!
One of the best YT movies I’ve seen for a long time. Great music, great commentary and great scenery all come together perfectly. Nice one.
Glad you enjoyed it David. Not everyone liked the music 😂
Great video as always, doing the dirty dozen in two weeks on my DX, and enjoyed your video on that as well. Question, how do you keep the Insta360 from falling while riding off road, I try and try and as soon as it gets a little rough, it just wants to fall on the hinge point to the ground when mounted out further than 12" expanded, and it tends to rotate a slight bit as well...tips very welcomed :)
I struggle 😂 I tend to mount it quite vertical, choose the trail well and get lucky.
Awesome! Might be time for me to change to a bike that can do gravel… 😘
You should!
Great vid Llel, its next on my list. What time of year did you do it?
May.
What a wonderful video. You have my full admiration for your riding skills, filming skills and cutting skills. Wow! I am really impressed. May I ask a few questions? Which drone do you use? And how the heck do you make your drone follow you on the bike. Or are those scenes filmed manually? I have the DJI Air and I have never ever managed to make this thing follow me on the bike,,,,,
Using an Air 2S. It's not the best tbh, so I'm careful with it. That's why the riding always is a bit slow with the drone. It can only really go behind.
I put the controller on the handlebars using a phone mount, with a universal adapter stuck to the back of it. Currently using Quadlock. Have used Mous. Both decent.
If you can get one a Skidoo 2+ is the best drone for this. it's amazing, but a bit out of my budget atm and they are tricky to get in Europe. Apparently the newer Air 3 from DJI is better again.
Nice video of your trip and adventure! Any tip on where to mount the drone controller while riding off road? Thanks!
I mount in on the handlebars using a phone mount and then use removable cable ties to hold the phone on the controller. It's fine but it's not great.
Would love a Skydio drone tbh but it's not looking likely at this point.
@@BrakeMagazine Skydio would be nice, but its bulky and the company has gone enterprise only now i think! Thanks for replying!
Another great video.. Shame I cant strap my mountain bike on the back of the Motorbike and double the pleasure!! This area looks amazing.
There is a system for that!
No..really!! Im on it!!@@BrakeMagazine
Stunning! I'd love to ride in Spain too.
How do you deal with cold/wet/moist weather though? I'm considering the same helmet+googles. Thx!
So, I made a little extra lip from duck tape. It does the job. 😊
We probably have no idea how much effort goes into filming this. Camera positions, drone flights, camera retrieval, editing,…
🤣🤣 Maybe in a few years I'll make a video about it 😅
Great video! I have the same luggage. Did it mount up easily just using the grab bars / rack thing that came with the bike?
Hey,
It's okay but I'd prefer it mounted a bit further back. I'd buy an extra rack tbh.
Great vid Llewellyn! I had planned to explore Picos de Europa in the autumn last year, but due to bad weather ended up going to the Pyrenees and Teruel. It was great, Spain is awesome! Want to return and do Picos de Europa soon. I think you should change the airs completely sometime and come to Latin America, maybe on the next bike review! It would be a pleasure to guide you myself 😉
The more miles I'm putting on my desert x the more I hate the front suspesion , its rubbish !! 😂 time for ohlins internal fork kit and a new rear ohlins aswel... that's my holiday put back to next year now 😂 cool vid 👍👍
Have you thought about another brand? And agreed. It's fine for slower riding but could do with being a bit more controlled.
@@BrakeMagazine all these new bikes have bad suspension that require work to work good ...
Thanks for introducing this part of Spain. I'm familiar with the Pyrenees and I followed a track from North to South through the inland, too. So remote and breathtaking views. Sad thing is, that I cannot take a ferry to reach this area like the Brits😢
BTW MEDIA MARKT is a German chain seller but not Spanish 😉 It belongs to the same ownership as the SATURN markets.
The only downside of the ferry is the cost but otherwise it is nice. Just a long way!
And I did not know that!
Great vid. Not sure about the suitcase strapped to your back though…
Where else do you you propose the camera kit goes? 😏
Great video bud
Watching down under
Thanks for the visit
I like the concept of this video, riding wilder parts of Europe. How many such places are left in Europe and surrounds?
An absolute ton if you look, but it depends when you call remote. The Alp, lots of Spain & Portugal and a lot of eastern Europe is very empty.
@@BrakeMagazine fantastic! I think it's important to at least have some wild places. Also, it's something special to connect with that one can only find in places like that
Great video . Music is a little loud making the audio a little hard to hear.. or may be its my tv 🤔.
beautiful!! What time of the year was this trip?
Early May
Love this channel. One suggestion is to lower or eliminate the music when you are narrating. I can barely hear you talking.
What speakers are you using? This is interesting 🤔 The music levels when narrating should be way lower than the voice.
Ive seen this video on a Samsung A22 and also feel the video could improve by slightly lowering the volume of the music (not much, just a bit would be enough).
Hope it helps.
Hi Do you have a gpx of those trails please. Want to bring my nice on her first adventure ride
Hi! That looks like an awesome adventure. Is it possible to buy / share your gps route? Thank you
Trans Euro Trail website. All for free.
how do you find these trails and how do you plan such things
Hi.. what's the name of the hotel you recommend first day?
If you think Spain is fabulous for motorcycling, try Portugal … it’s even better!
What song is that at the beggining ?
Did you do a lot of riding off road on your own. I only ask because i plan to visit in October and am a little apprehensive about riding off road on my own in the Picos
I did two full days. Its a little remote and has patches without phone signal but there are quite a few small villages on the TET route and people are helpful.
I would take some kind of GPS safety thing like a Garmin inReach for peace of mind 😊
Feeling slightly inspired... #TET24
Drones are NOT allowed to be flown in the Picos NP. It's a no drone zone.
nice vido on the Picos. But why do you cross a river at 2:33? for solo riders too dangerous hmm
Because I could. The route goes that way and I'd be happy to do it again.
well done ! Would you mind sharing the GPS trail to follow your steps?
Hey, The Route is just the Trans Euro Trail loop I mentioned at the start of the video. I did one extra road through the mountains but there is tons of good road on the TET route.
Id love to get that route from you sometime if you get the time
No need! The trans Euro Trail covers 95% of it :)
