Godox ML60II Bi Review: Best Light for Content Creators? (+ MLP Projection Unit)

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 6 ก.ย. 2024
- In this video I review the Godox ML60II Bi, the predecessor to the popular Godox ML60, with additional bi-color support.
This light is super compact, stylish, and could be the best budget light for TH-cam, TikTok, and other content creation. The battery handle, carrying case, and other accessories have also been upgraded.
It uses the Godox mount, which has plenty of inexpensive softboxes, along with other modifiers like pop-up silicone diffusers, and the Godox ML Projection Attachment.
Leave a comment and let me know if you think this is the best option for content creators out there.

What would you change about the ML60II Bi? Or is it perfect as-is?
Internal battery? 👀
@@DavidZhou Not on this light. Ulanzi makes a tiny, 40W COB with an internal battery, although it's a proprietary mount without many options: geni.us/ulanzilt02840w
Inkee has the Gold Crow GC60/30, which have internal batteries, and an expandable Bowens mount. I did a video on those here, very different than this (and most) lights: th-cam.com/video/f_ut1k56QS4/w-d-xo.html
I wish that I can use Godox radio remote, I prefer them to phone app, especially with simple bi color lights.
Need it with internal battery, i own 3 version I of this lights, i do wedding photography, and i hate to carry a huge pelican case with the lights, the battery plates, 12 npf batteries, reflectors, etc. Do you hace a recommendation for cob led lights (40-60w) that can be controlled with a remote and powered with an INTEGRATED npf battery plate or internal batteries? Something like the smallrig ones but with remote control?
@@ivan_lomeli I would suggest the Inkee Gold Crow GC60 lights, or the GVM SD80D/S.
I did a video on the Gold Crow lights here: th-cam.com/video/f_ut1k56QS4/w-d-xo.html They have since released a mobile app, and a 30 watt version that's essentially half as long. Pretty cool lights with internal batteries.
The GVM lights are actually really solid little lights, and have built-in NP-F slots with a good mobile app. I did a video on those here: th-cam.com/video/oSmdCGmUrQ8/w-d-xo.html
Hope that helps!
I think your videos are very good. They are informative because they describe every last detail. I have two Godox lights, the Godox SL150W II, and I am very happy with them. The deviation from the actual WB is almost 100 Kelvin, which is a very good value for my purposes. But the best thing about the lights for me is that the fans can be turned off. I'll now get to the point: thanks to your detailed description of the ML60II Bi LED, I will buy this light. Interesting lighting situations can then be created in conjunction with the two other lights.
Thanks again for the video🙂👍
Thanks for the kind words. The SL150W II was a super exciting light for Godox in my opinion. They really shed the idea that all their lights were too loud, and everything has been great ever since.
Another great video! 🙌🏼 I just bought one. Will definitely buy attachments from your links once i get it.
Thanks for the support! Let me know how you like everything once you get some time to use it :)
Very well written and executed video. I think I'm sold!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always cool to see these small lights get better and better. Very neat! By the way man your beard is getting thick! Growing it out!
Haha I was. Trimmed it recently but I think I’ll let it go again. I’m getting too lazy to shave as often.
@@NewLayer Ya I can't grow one....too patchy and grows slow. Works for me lol
That design is so clean… But I have too many lights as it is 😂
What is this... too many lights... you speak of?!
@davidZhou I can take those lights off your hand if you have too much lol 😂
thank you for the quality video
Glad you liked it!
The small form factors of the ML60IIBi and ML100Bi are excellent, however the need for proprietary modifiers/additional adapters falls in to the same failings as the Zhiyun Molus series of lights. Having to carry special modifiers or an extra adapter that will create additional leverage on the plastic housing of the light sort of defeats the purpose of a having a small run and gun light to begin with. The addition of the adapter puts it at a price point that competes with Amaran's 60x and 100x which manage to include a standard Bowens mount.
I honestly feel that if they had simply included the Bowens mount, these things would have kicked the snot out of the 60x/100x. Though I do understand the design/market decision that most people running 60w/100w lights probably aren't putting on massive modifiers anyway, however the choice would be nice without additional adapters to keep track of. Great video overview and definitely perfectly highlights the advantages and disadvantages of the light!
I typically don't like proprietary modifiers for all the reasons you mentioned, but I'm becoming more open to them BECAUSE there are already so many native Bowens options out there, as long as the selection of modifiers are inexpensive and good, it's fine by me. The Godox mount modifiers are way lighter and more portable, so I like it in this case if you are specifically in need of a lightweight, portable option. If you want to use your Bowens modifiers, I would probably go with something else.
Although, a lot of times, when using adapters, less leverage is actually put on the light housing itself, because the adapter takes all of the weight of both the light and the modifier. And Godox also FINALLY is releasing an adapter besides the S2, which looks like it's only ~$15, and will be a huge asset for a lot of their lights: geni.us/godoxmlgb That new adapter does not take pressure of the light itself, but also looks quite slim, so shouldn't really add to the leverage of bigger Bowens modifiers either.
Long story short, it's not for everyone, but no light is, they all have their pros and cons. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Diggin the beard.
Some great light options out there nowadays.
Almost more beard comments on this video than light comments. Next video will be “the most flattering light for beards” 😂
Wish they have a 3-light set bundle with some hard carrying case. Neither this nor the earlier version has it where Nanlite kills it!
As someone who loves a good carrying case, I totally understand :)
Hi, I would like to know an important point, if you can answer me. Does the light dim or weaken if it is being powered by two NP-F970 batteries instead of AC power?
No!
Waiting for RGB version.
Correct wait for RGB version.
I'd love this in RGB
Same! They never made an RGB version of the original ML60, but never say never I guess.
Great video, I've been waiting for a hands on review and you didn't disappoint. What is the noise of the fan like? Is it as quiet as the original ml60 bi?
Thanks, glad it was helpful! The fan is so quiet that I didn't even notice/think anything of it during testing, so I kind of forgot to mention it, haha.
@@NewLayer Amazing! Can't wait to get my hands on one!
@@user-xc7ux1ew2g Let me know how you like it! Thanks for the support :)
My guess that Godox may in future release more powerful versions in this lineup. I am sure that this projection attachments could take 120-150 watt of heat.
For sure! The MLP is probably the most robust projection attachment I’ve used.
Waiting for your review of upcoming Godox blp projection attachments for bowens mount lights.
@@voitco-eduard If I get my hands on one, I'll do my best!
Could you please make a comparison between this and Zhiyun Molus g60? I was about to buy that one but now this looks great and smaller than the original ML60.
Great video, by the way!
I don't have a direct comparison video, but I did do a review on that light too: th-cam.com/video/xMCO5_MpKys/w-d-xo.html

th-cam.com/video/F3QJ3-jFh1M/w-d-xo.html
Wonderful light. I wanted to buy it already, but there are no attachments for sale. No softboxes, nothing. And the conical nozzle, apparently, does not exist at all. I couldn't find an adapter for Bowens either. I got upset and didn't buy it.
The links in the description are for the US stores, all of which are in stock and available on Amazon Prime, B&H Photo, or both.
What country are you in? Unfortunately I know some things are harder to get in other countries :-/
@@NewLayer I am in Russia. I buy in Russian stores with direct delivery from China.
An adapter to Bowens will solve all problems. I wish I could see it.
Hi, how about the sl60ii bi, is it actually good, is the fan noise actually that loud? My usecase is for talkhead video. Is the reviewed one noisy as well?
I prefer this over the SL series. The only reason I'd go with the SL series if if you want the native bowens mount. Both are totally fine for talking head videos.
I ordered 2 of them and sent back cause of the plastic built. Not good for larger softboxes, feels like it will break the mount. I went with the ML60 bi cause it’s metal 😊
Fair enough, gotta get what works for your needs. I had no worries with the silicone diffusers, MLP, and the AD-S softboxes.
The MLP is probably 10x heavier than the light itself 😂 Good thing it has its own mount.
@@NewLayer lol
Hi just bought the light after watching your video. What is hate about it over the old version is that it is not compatible with the s2 bracket. I think it’s a downgrade from the old version.
Thanks for the support! And yes, that's annoying, but I think it's because they're finally releasing a more normal, better Godox-to-Bowens mount adapter! geni.us/godoxmlgb
The S2 bracket is pretty good, but kind of cumbersome since it's more universal and meant for flashes. This new adapter will be better for video lights. It's also really inexpensive, should be available very soon.
I see. And it works with the new ml100. That is interesting… will be waiting for your review and samples.
there is a cheaper chinese version of it - thats been out for like 1 or 2 years, same design and everything, but 100w. dont remember the name, but sure you can find it. it has no accessories, costs a fraction of the godox cost. now with accessories for it from godox - it will be perfect. if i remember the name - will post it here.
Definitely let me know if you find it. I'm surprised to hear it's the same design since I've never seen Godox use OEM housings for anything, always manufacturing original stuff.
@@NewLayer I already replied, but my comment got deleted? probably because of the link. idk, anyway its YNLUX100 and all variations of it. i think they have an RGB version also.
@@TimGalloVids Ah gotcha, it's a Yongnuo light! Looks like it, the ML60II Bi, and the Amaran 60d/x are all cousins, haha.
I'd love to test it out, but Yongnuo is impossible to get ahold of.
Is there no option to convert the proprietary mount to a Bowens mount? Something like the S2 Bracket
The S2 bracket worked for the original ML60 because the light itself slides into the bracket, which clamps onto it. The form factor here won't allow that.
I'm currently not aware of a Godox-mount to Bowens-mount adapter, and it's definitely a consideration with this light if you have a bunch of Bowens mount modifiers already.
Normally, I'm not a huge fan of proprietary mounts, but I mentioned in the video, the Godox-mount specifically is a little different because it has a better selection of modifiers, and they are all really lightweight and cheap, so I see it as a pro for this light in particular.
Ahh I see, perhaps Godox's focus is to make this light as compact as possible, rather than be compatible with all the modifiers.
But it'll still be nice if they end up making an adapter. It would make this light more versatile, like the original ML60.
Thanks for the quick reply! Appreciate it!
@@waisengyan9028 It's pretty crazy that no one has made an adapter yet because the Godox mount has been around forever!
@@NewLayerSomeone on TH-cam has made one
I'm very interested in Amaran 60x S, From the test data, who is better? Thank you
The Amaran S lights have the special, new gen LEDs in them, so the SSI is super high. So it just depends on pricing where you are, and whether you prioritize size, SSI, or other differences between them.
How does this compare to the Zhiyun portable lights Molus G60 or x100?
As far as brightness and color accuracy go, the G60 and ML60II Bi are comparable. The X100 will be brighter by about 1/3-1/2 a stop, but that light obviously has other differences because of the form factor.
I did a video on those Zhiyun lights so watch that and just decide which unique features would fit your workflow the best and you’ll be happy 👍
how long can be used if using battery in full power? 45minutes ?
Yeah somewhere in the 45-60 minute range with large NP-F batteries. The same as any other 60-70 watt LED light.
@@NewLayer thanks for the information..last question..which one do you prefer, godox ML60ii Bi or zhiyun molus X60?
@@kinnanakahar2813 Personally I have more use for the X60, but it totally depends on how you plan to use it, since I think each light excels in different areas.
I did a video on the X60 here: th-cam.com/video/uGa2zjw4e6Y/w-d-xo.html
Watch that and whichever one you think fits your workflow better, I'm sure you'll be happy with!
I have the ml 60 bi and I need one more. My problem is which one to prefer. The bi or the bii and why?? You can help me?
As far as brightness and color accuracy go, they are pretty much identical, so it just depends on the form factor, etc. Whichever one you think will fit your needs better will be fine I'm sure.
I did a full video on the original ML60 here: th-cam.com/video/GHiMqZ9oiQM/w-d-xo.html
Hi bro, great video. is this strictly a continuous light or it can work as a strobe?
Thanks! And it is only a continuous light. There are very few LED lights that double as strobes, like the Godox FV series, or some lights from Rotolight (which are very expensive). Even then, they are not as bright as even a cheap "real" strobe, and have other downsides, like the flash being different duration than typical flashes, etc.
I highly recommend getting separate continuous/flash lights.
Why is it so hard to get any info on the batteries? Even at Godox support?
If you look on the product page under "What's in the Box" or "Optional Accessories", they have handles for NP-F or V-Mount batteries: godox.com/product-b/ML60IIBi.html
Thanks for that awesome video, just one question, can the battery mount, charge the batteries?
No problem! The handle cannot charge the batteries. There are some high end lights where the ballast can recharge also, but the ones I can think of are 600+ watts and over $1K 😅
@@NewLayer Thanks so much!
Does it works without batteries ? With direct power?
Yes, it comes with an AC adapter to use wall power. In fact, you have to buy one of the bigger kits to get the battery grip, otherwise, it's wall power only.
Which of the projection attachments would you recommend? So one has to buy three whole attachment to get different angles, right?
They are basically design for different distances/spotlight sizes. So the 19 degree will give you the same size light circle from farther away as the 36 degree would from closer up. I have the 26 degree, and it's perfect for my studio space which is about 12 x 15 feet if that helps.
They sell the lenses separately, so you can buy 1 full projection unit, and then additional lenses later if you need them:
geni.us/godoxmlp19lens
geni.us/godoxmlp26lens
geni.us/godoxmlp36lens
Hope that helps!
@@NewLayer Ah that’s good to know! Was thinking for at least 26 angle for my pretty small space. :) Thank you very much man!
what about the noise ?
It's very quiet, on par or better than other 60 watt lights, so won't cause any issues with audio!
Which one you prefer this one or gvm sd80d?
Do I need S2 Bracket to mount lantern box?
The S2 bracket will not work with this light since it's meant to clamp on to smaller flashes, or round lights like the original ML60. Godox has a new Godox-mount to Bowens-mount adapter you can use: geni.us/godoxmlgb
@@NewLayer Would it be better to just get the ML60 then? Does the S2 bracket fit to any modifer softbox?
@@reddragonxd Not better or worse necessarily, just different. If you have other Godox flashes that you could use with the S2 bracket, it might make more sense. The S2 allows you to attach Bowens mount modifiers to compatible Godox lights. Bowens mount are the most plentiful and easy to find modifier type.
Whish its the diferent for this model vs ml60 bi ,the model ml60 bi its most expensive
You can see my review on the original ML60 here: th-cam.com/video/GHiMqZ9oiQM/w-d-xo.html The bi is the same, just bi-color.
Can this be mounted on a Godox S-Bracket so I can attach a softbox for it? thanks
No, but it looks like they are FINALLY releasing the Godox ML-GB, which is a Godox-mount to Bowens-mount adapter. I'm not sure when it'll be available though because I don't see it for sale yet, even though there's a B&H listing for it: geni.us/godoxmlgb
@@NewLayer thanks! Have to look out for that one! Super helpful vid!
Bro which best ?amaran COB 60x S or this? Araman is 33,300 lux @ 1m BUT Godox not show how many lux on product link !!!"
The Amaran 60x S is only 33,000 lux with the reflector, which you can't really compare. It's 2,427 lux bare bulb. The ML60II Bi is 3,030 lux bare bulb, so they are essentially identical, far less than 1/3 a stop of difference.
You can compare a bunch of different lights I've tested here: newlayer.com/gear/lights/compare?light1=Aputure+Amaran+60x&light2=Godox+ML60II+Bi
thanks bro @@NewLayer
which give more light. this ml60 or the colbor cl60?
The ML60II Bi puts out ~500 more lux, but that is negligible. The would both use the same camera settings for proper exposure, so they are essentially identical in brightness: newlayer.com/gear/lights/compare?light1=Godox+ML60II+Bi&light2=Colbor+CL60
Which is better godox ML60 Bi Bi-color or godox ML60ii Bi Bi-color ? Please let me know which one should I buy? Thank you
I reviewed the original ML series here: th-cam.com/video/GHiMqZ9oiQM/w-d-xo.html
The one up side to the original in my opinion is that it can use the S2 Bowens adapter.
You'll have to decide which one will fit your needs best.
@@NewLayer thank you ❣️
no remote?
Not that I know of. Godox is kind of random with what products support their remotes, and usually the budget options don't. But, the mobile app support is there, and much better than a remote in my opinion.
May I ask you
Which one is better
ML-CD15 Ball
ML-CS1625 square
The rectangle is bigger and a little more directional. So it will create softer light than the sphere. The sphere would be better if you are trying to bring up the overall brightness in an entire room.

No problem! The fan is so quiet that I didn't even think it was worth mentioning. At least as quiet as those, if not quieter.
can u mount on a softbox?
Yes, Godox mount softboxes like the AD-S60/65/80 work directly, as well as some other modifiers. They also have a Bowens mount adapter if you want to use Bowens mount accessories: geni.us/godoxmlgb
Great Video
Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
What battery does it use?
You can get a battery handle kit for either NP-F batteries, or a V-Mount batteries.
SL60ii Bi vs ML60 Bi, which one you suggest?
I prefer the ML60 over the SL60.
Thanks mate ❤
Too bad it's not available anywhere with the battery grip.
Yeah looks like they are out of stock from the usual US retailers. Looks like it's 2-3 weeks right now if you need the battery grip. I would imagine they'll be re-stocked all over in about a month.
@@NewLayerWere they ever in stock or did only the reviewers get sent units?
@@gtwester They were in stock, but the first batch that actually sits in US warehouses always seems very limited. There were 4-5 listings on Amazon yesterday, even though they weren't Prime and presumably shipped from overseas, that are no longer there!
I would imagine with the seeming popularity of the light they'll ramp up production ASAP.
No bowen adapter?
Nope not on this one! It seems clear to me that it was designed really only support its own ecosystem of Godox mount modifiers, but that allowed it to be small and lighter weight since they didn't have to plan for people using larger, heavier, Bowens modifiers.
What is the difference between sl60ii bi?
Brightness and color accuracy is the same, size/form factor is significantly different. I did a video on that light here: th-cam.com/video/F5-YNNQA9Wo/w-d-xo.html
@@NewLayer actually in India! I'm getting both for same price. Which one I should prefer? Can you please suggest me?
@@thevijayraj34 That's something you would have to decide based on your work flow.
The ML60II is smaller/lighter, has NP-F battery support with the grip, and uses Godox mount modifiers. It's great for small spaces and portability.
The SL60II is a very basic light with a native Bowens mount for modifiers, so it's better suited to permanent setup in a studio space.
Other than that, you'd need to see if anything stands out in the videos that would be helpful for you on either light!
@@NewLayer performance wise both looks similar right! In brightness and long usage.
@@thevijayraj34 Correct
Godox Bi colour lights are way off when measured with a colour meter.
Way off of what? I've tested multiple copies of probably 25 different Godox lights with my Sekonic C-800, and keep a database of results here: newlayer.com/gear/lights/compare
Like all lights, Godox lights vary, but they are middle of the road at the least Vs. other brands at similar prices.
The copy of the ML60II Bi I have in particular was very, very good in terms of CCT matching what the screen says. The CRI and individual R values were all better than average, and the SSI was right where you would expect it to be for a bi-color light.
@@NewLayerI'm getting a reading of 4300k but showing 6500k on the control box, which is the highest it goes. This discrepancy applies to both UL150 II Bi and KNOWLED F400Bi light mat. While I can match the light mat with their daylight LEDs, the highest the UL150 can go up to is 6500k (4300k). That's still around 500k from the approximate 4800k reading from their daylight fixtures, according to the colour meter. Thanks for the link!
@@candyartstv That's very odd, and something has to be off. Out of the ~500 lights I've tested, none have been that far off, regardless of brand.
What color meter are you using? There are only a couple that are reliable. Some people DM me about CCT issues with lights, but they are using color meter apps or plug-in meters on their phones, which aren't reliable.
Could always test with a white piece of paper and your camera custom white balance, or taking a RAW photo of a white paper and checking on a computer.
I can only assume you're measuring without any modifiers in a fully dark room, but I'm very curious to know if you got crazy unlucky with multiple bad units, or what else might be going on.
@@NewLayer I am currently using the Kenko KCM-3100, which has always been reliable and consistent for me. All of their daylight-only LEDs are not sitting at around 4800k. I checked your database but unfortunately, these LEDs are not listed there. I've contacted Godox and am waiting for their response. I am hopeful that a firmware update can fix this issue.
@@candyartstv Any news?

@@NewLayer ah I thought this is upgraded version like sl60w to sl60 iiD
Can this be powered via USB-C PD? That is the emerging standard and makes it simple to power accessories with V-Mount batteries or power banks??
No USB-C, but there is a v-mount specific battery handle.
It’s been tough to find sub-100Wh v-mount batteries that support more than 45W via USB-C until very recently. Even the bigger batteries only support 60W really, and this light needs 70W overall.
I have some new ZGCINE batteries I want to do a video with for exactly what you’re talking about. I think USB-C will be standard in the upcoming generation of lights, even if they don’t run at full brightness when using it.
