@@cecem.9921 Well, they are all the same brightness and color accuracy, so you have to decide what other features are important to you. V-mount battery support, fan-off mode, etc. If you do a lot of photography, the FV series might be your best option because in flash mode you'll get ~2 stops greater brightness. Amongst the swamp, this video stands out like a lotus & is the best possible, no-nonsense video which is concise as well. Most other video spouts technical mumbo jumbo or the creators keep shouting at the end of which one does not understand the content clearly. Really useful and informative review of the range. I had intended to buy an Amaran light but the delivery time here in the UK is around 6-8 weeks (if you are lucky) whereas the Godox range are available almost overnight and by the sound of it will fill my ;lighting needs perfectly. Thx again.
Both lights have subtle pros and cons, but the best light is the one you have, so you can't go wrong picking up a Godox light, especially any of the newer ones :)
When you add diffusion, it usually warms things up even more. Most 5600K lights I've tried shift to around 5000K once diffusion is added, so it's always important to set a custom white balance before filming instead of just choosing 5600K/Daylight white balance in your camera :)
@@NewLayer True, I have bought godox p90H softbox and when looking at outer white diffuser clothe it is locking warm yellowish! and without 60W light turned ON it is white 😂. I am thinking to buy between godox 150W ii vs FV 150.. As in your video your light metering shows 5600k for both and slight less reading in case for 60W..so that might be the logical reason why. Warm side for 60w.. What about aputure lights have you tried ? Do you think same issue might be with these too.. Actually no YT creators use actual instruments to judge the light. When comparing, rather keeps reading the company manual that's it..
@@theshopper6902 The SL II, FV, VL, and UL series are all very close to their advertised 5600K. The original SL series is not as accurate. Aputure lights are typically even more accurate to their advertised specs, especially throughout the brightness range. With that said, the newer Godox lights are very good, so there's nothing to really worry about. And even if you buy Aputure lights, you should still always set a custom white balance before shooting.
@@theshopper6902 The SL150W II is one of my favorite lights of all time along side the VL150. I would not hesitate to recommend any of the newer Godox lights, including the SL150W II, VL150, FV150, or UL150.

I already bought VL150 after watching several of your videos, love the option to power it with a battery, I don't mind the adapter and control box separated from the body, so it doesn't accumulate heat and if one part broken I could just replace/fix that part. I couldn't hear any noise from the fan, normal room ambient sound probably louder, although I hear a high frequency noise from the controller box when the light set to very low power (not everyone can hear this) probably common in LED lights. Plus it comes with a bag. Great video by the way!
Thanks for the support! It's hard to go wrong with the VL150, just a super solid light all-around. And you're right, the repairability is higher than something like the SL150W II. I had an SL150W that developed a high pitched (and pretty loud) sound after a few months. I got it replaced, because it was very loud, and I was worried it'd get worse. If you email whoever you bought it from with video proof of the sound, I bet they'd replace the controller for you. If it's super quiet maybe not worth the hassle, but better safe than sorry. And what you say is true for me too! My PC tower is louder than almost all my lights, so it's really not as big a deal as some people say, at least if you have a properly set up shotgun mic.
Thanks for the detailed comparison! I chose the FV150 to be my main video light and the secondary flash with my AD600pro. I like the simplicity of a single cable when a built-in battery isn't an option.
Happy to help! Although it's not as popular, the FV series has a special place because it's so unique, and is the first Godox light I ever reviewed. I don't know a lot about Godox strobes, but I would imagine you can fire both with the same trigger?
Great review! Thnx! I want to add one point. The Godox SL series of the first version has one unpleasant feature. Hot air is blown through the radiator on the led chip. In this regard, if you block the air outlet with some light modifier, the device will start to warm up more. The smaller the modifier, the more the device will warm up. A large softbox increases the temperature by several degrees, but a small lens Fresnel modifier can heat it up to 70 degrees Celsius, which leads to the device being turned off.
That's a good point, thanks for sharing. I've had a few people comment on various lights talking or asking about overheating, which I have actually never experienced, but I know it's happened to some people.
Thank you for a concise comparison video. It certainly helped me in making a decision. I have just purchased he GODOX VL150. I chose this version mainly because of the option to be able to use it on location away from a power source and also the fact that it comes with a carrying case. I wonder if you can answer the following:- When using a lamp of this type dimmed down to 50% is it still using the full wattage of 150w or does the wattage reduce as the percentage is reduced, thereby using less electricity? You're welcome, glad it helped. LEDs are pretty linear as far as power Vs. output goes. So at 100% brightness, if it uses 150 watts, then at 50% brightness, it'll be close to 75 watts of power. In reality a 150 watt light may use something like 165 watts because the COB chip is 150, and the fan and other electronics use some power too. There's also some efficiency loss, etc. but long answer short, at 50% brightness, it'll use half as much power, haha.

Pheeeew 😬, ... the differences in specs are not much but it definitely show in the price difference - at least when it comes to the light quality and brightness all are basically the same.
There really isn't a ton different about some of them, so you're usually paying for just 1 feature like v-mount support, no fan, flash, etc. which is only worth it if you really want that!
Your previous videos helped convince me - finally hit the "Buy" button on a VL150! It'll be here by end of week. Stoked to finally have a full key light LED set-up. Now if Godox could just release a VL60W or SL60W II that's quiet, under $200 and includes a case we'd have an excellent backlight/rim light option...

Hi, thanks for making this video. I was surprised because Godox says that in its SL150II version the lux at 1 meter is 58000. It is a big difference to the measurement you achieved with the photometer.
The 58,000 lux is with the stock reflector. I don't measure anything with modifiers on because all reflectors are different so it's not a fair comparison. Never trust any numbers that aren't taken bare bulb! :)

The VL series has the smallest heads, but has an external controller/v-mount adapter. The UL150 is the biggest head for sure, and the rest are all the same. The SL, SL II, and FV lights have no external controller, so it’s just the head unit and 1 cable, so they are more simple to setup. Hope that helps.

The original SL series were very much budget lights, but everything since the FV series (which includes FV, SL II, VL, and UL) are much higher quality. They still are great for beginners because the prices are usually some of the lowest, but they can easily be used in professional environments. I hope that helps :)

If you're shooting 50/50 photos/videos or more leaning towards photo, get the FV150 so you can use it in flash mode for 2 extra stops of brightness during photos. The only thing the SL150W II does better is that it has fan off mode, but since you're not recording audio, the flash functionality of the FV series is totally worth it and it can be triggered alongside other Godox strobes with the same triggers. Hope that helps!
I bought an SL150II and the fan was flat-out noisy - louder than my old SL60W. Also it didn't switch off at lower brightnesses, it was always on. The retailer told me that it's not good to leave the light on fanless mode for longer periods, so had to return it. Was it just a dud copy then? Everybody talks about how quiet the fan is...
I think so! It’s still one of the quietest lights I’ve ever tested, and the fact that the fan didn’t go off makes me think it was a faulty fan controller or something.
@@NewLayer thanks! Yes Essential Photo tested it and accepted there was a problem and are sending me a replacement 🤞 What are your thoughts on running the light for extended periods with the fan off? The guy at Essential Photo said the manual says you shouldn't run it for long periods at 100% on fanless mode as it may overheat, but I couldn't see that in the manual, and no reviewers have mentioned it...
@@WillJBailey It’s not possible to even do that as far as I remember. When you go into fabless mode, you can’t turn it up higher than 35%, which you can do indefinitely no problem.
Great review, but I wish you put more comparison graphics of all lights & their features on screen all at once like at 9:25. It makes them easier to compare than staring at you talking and reading about which lights come with what and what other lights don’t. But great review otherwise.

As far as brightness/color accuracy goes, they are all functionality identical, with the SL150W Mark I being 1/3 stop dimmer. They all output the same brightness and color, so it depends on what features you need. If you need portability and battery power, the VL series for sure. If you're in a studio only, I really like the SL II series. If you do a decent amount of photos alongside video, then the FV series is good.

One thing I would've liked to understand: what's the significance of the different series? Are the model numbers meant to indicate types of applications?
I'm not sure what you're looking for apart from what I covered in this video. They are all meant for video, and have slightly different feature sets, so you would just choose based on your needs. VL has v-mount battery support, SL is the cheapest, SL II is upgraded materials and slightly quieter, UL is silent, FV is hybrid photo/video. That's really all the main differences in a nutshell.
They also now have the ML series, which is very small 60 watts only, and the Litemons lights, which are even cheaper. They put out a lot of options that have a lot of overlap.
@@NewLayer Sincerely, thanks for the clarification :) OR WAS IT? (dun dun duuunnn..) VL does indeed have a V-Mount... But then again, so do lights in the UL Series... My reason for asking is so I can immediately match model to task. I'm thinking the "L" is "Light". I don't think I score points for that insight. The way the VL Series was initially pitched made it seem they were for "Video", so I'm thinking that's what these lights were optimised for. But back in the day, film/video studio tungsten lights didn't have fans - they just lit things and turned the room into an oven. To me, the UL Series seems far more attuned to video applications, so long as you have some decent HVAC going on. FV: Flash, Video. ML Series: "Mini" or "Micro", or maybe "Mobile". The SZ is Zoomable... Whatever that means. I'm guessing they're pitching the light at people who've never encountered the terms 'flooding' and 'spotting'... I don't get what the "S" or "U" signifies, but I'm pretty sure "S" doesn't mean "cheap". The closest I can get with "U" is "Unfanned".
Nice job. One really obvious omission as we all start using higher frame rates is are any of all of these units flicker free at 100/120/240 fps? Bizarrely, as a professional who has 35 years worth of kit, I have started using inexpensive LED site lights (for builders...) which work great at high frame rates, as they're off mains power (50 Hz in UK) . After a few hours the batteries start to die, then you're in trouble...!
Thanks for the comment. I haven’t come across a “filmmaking” LED in a very long time that had any issues with flicker up to 240fps, so I think it’s a thing of the past for the most part. If I ever notice it I’ll definitely say something!
All of the 150 watt lights are essentially the same brightness. If you need to work in direct sunlight, I highly recommend getting a 200-300 watt+ light. This is a super old video, so I don't have any of these lights any more. You can compare some of them here though: newlayer.com/gear/lights/compare?light1=Godox+FV200&light2=Godox+SL60W The flash of the FV series is 4 times brighter than it is in continuous mode, which is 2 full stops in camera terms. The FV series is still well below what even a cheap, real strobe light can produce though.
I mean, I pretty much covered every single aspect in this video... LOL The VL has a carrying case and v-mount battery support. The SL is fan off mode and does not have an external battery/control ballast, but does not come with a case. That's really it.
The only difference between the two is that the FV200 is 1/3 to 1/2 stop brighter, so you'll have to decide whether the price difference is worth it for you. Personally, unless you REALLY need it, I think the FV150 is the way to go.
Great video, JT. I'm looking to do DIY projects (indoors) for my fishing channel and also shoot music videos for my future band channel. I thought the VL200 would be a great investment for a key light and also I could use it outside at night with it being portable for my music videos. I would mainly be buying this for music videos. Is it worth the $150 extra for the VL200 or am I better off saving doe with the VL150? I am a newbie film maker with a lot to learn. Thank you
I wish I had the Godox flashes to test, but unfortunately I don't. The dedicated strobes are definitely going to be significantly brighter, but I don't know exactly how many stops, sorry.
All the newest 150 watt Godox lights are the same brightness, so it just depends on which ones are on sale. The SL150W II and FV150 are almost always cheaper than the VL150, and the UL150 is almost always the most expensive. The SL150W II is one of the best all-around lights ever made for the price in my opinion. Hope that helps!

I've seen it but not used it. The VL150 is different in that it has v-mount battery support and includes a carrying case. The LA150D would be more comparable to the regular SL150W II, or something like the Nanlite FS-150.
Wait...it has continuous light AND a flash capability on the FV series? No?! This is similar to what the Rotolight is toted as being able to do...only without the option of having a battery attached directly to the unit and not being multi-color, right? Well, I didn't know that!! I had thought with video LED's you ONLY get constant light...if you can get a strobe function as well...man...I might need to rethink my next purchase. Yes! The FV series is really awesome for people who do photos and videos and want a couple more stops of brightness over the typical output of a continuous light! 600 definitely not and 300 I'd say 95% chance they won't in the next 1-2 years. The technology just isn't there for a COB that bright and powerful without needing fan cooling unfortunately.

The difference between the SL200W II and FV200 in terms of brightness and light quality is nothing at all, just like the SL150W II and FV150 (and VL150 and UL150 for that matter). All the latest generation of Godox video lights share the same brightness and quality when they are the same wattage. The practical difference is that the 200 watt lights are 1/2 stop brighter than the 150 watt versions, so it just depends on whether that is worth the price difference for you :)
The godox lights are on sale so the VL150 is cheaper than the SL150W II. Can you please tell me why I’d need to buy a 200w light instead of a 150? I have an f/4 lens on an APS-C sensor and shoot primarily indoors. Perhaps I may want to light someone a small kitchen while cooking. Do I need or will I benefit from the 1/2 stop added brightness? Would I better put the money toward a faster lens? Thanks.
I would get the 150 and put the money towards an f/2.8 zoom r f/1.8 prime lens. The 1/2 stop difference isn’t very much, and the 200 requires 2 v-mount batteries instead of just 1 like the 150. Hope that helps.

I got a rare request to video a few speeches for a book release party in a large ballroom. Pretty much none of the lights I own (mostly for interviews, basically softboxes with some LED bulbs inside) will work well unless i can get them close. I have a limited budget for the shoot, would prefer to buy (but could rent) a light. Any recommendations on something I could put further in the back of the room and focus on the speakers that would still create a good video light? Seems this FLS8 Fresnel might be magical for that, even with something like a 150w led? I wander if it can work with FV200
A large ballroom would be very tough. Even a 300-600 watt light with a fresnel would probably not be great if it has to be in the back of the room if it's too large. I'd say a better choice would be a couple smaller lights on the left and right sides of the "stage" with stock reflectors. You won't get soft light out of anything really, but by having multiple lights, you'll get a better look and less harsh shadows. You could put even 60 watt lights with reflectors 15-20 feet away and they'd be bright enough. I know that's probably only slightly helpful, but it's hard to say without knowing the exact size and layout of the space and limitations you might have with placement.
Is the FV obviously the best if I really am a hybrid shooter? I have the original SL60 but do need something more powerful. Also have 2 godox strobes so a 3rd extra light could be really nice. I just don't know or can't see the downside of the FV?
Although the FV is 2 stops brighter in flash mode than in continuous mode, it’s still not as bright as dedicated strobes, so that’s the downside. If you’re shooting indoors only, the FV200 should be good enough unless you’re trying to use giant soft boxes or shoot at f/11+, so it just depends on your style I guess. Nothing will come close to a powerful strobe. With that said, it’s basically the same cost as the SL II series, and is the only LED I know with a flash mode, so it’s still an exceptional light.
very nice review ! what about SL60W for noise ? I'd like to take pictures and videos of babies, flowers, still life. What about the use of an octobox 85-105cm ? I am afraid 60W is not enough to keep a good iso and shutter speed and 150W is better. idea would be to shoot bbies at 100iso, 1/125s, F1.8-F2.8
The SL60W and original SL150W are louder than all the others, but I used them in talking head videos for quite a while without issues. They are not loud to the point where they'll bother your ears, it's just a consideration for whether the microphone will hear them. To get ISO, 1/125 second, and f/1.8-2.8 with a large softbox, you'd need a light that puts out ~4,000-10,000 lux. Any 150-200 watt Godox light will output 6,500-9,000 lux and should work. The bigger issue (with babies) is that contrary to popular belief, continuous lights are not good for babies, and you should use strobes. Having a continuous light source that bright also causes me to squint badly, so it would have the same effect on another person. That's why people shoot video at ISO 400-800 at 1/50 second typically, it's a much more comfortable brightness and about 3-4 full stops dimmer. I hope that helps.

Really useful and informative review of the range. I had intended to buy an Amaran light but the delivery time here in the UK is around 6-8 weeks (if you are lucky) whereas the Godox range are available almost overnight and by the sound of it will fill my ;lighting needs perfectly. Thx again.
Both lights have subtle pros and cons, but the best light is the one you have, so you can't go wrong picking up a Godox light, especially any of the newer ones :)

You very much covered every point and now I know why my SL60W is getting quite warmer white tone to skin.. Because of low kelvin number...
When you add diffusion, it usually warms things up even more. Most 5600K lights I've tried shift to around 5000K once diffusion is added, so it's always important to set a custom white balance before filming instead of just choosing 5600K/Daylight white balance in your camera :)
@@NewLayer True, I have bought godox p90H softbox and when looking at outer white diffuser clothe it is locking warm yellowish! and without 60W light turned ON it is white 😂.
I am thinking to buy between godox 150W ii vs FV 150.. As in your video your light metering shows 5600k for both and slight less reading in case for 60W..so that might be the logical reason why. Warm side for 60w..
What about aputure lights have you tried ? Do you think same issue might be with these too.. Actually no YT creators use actual instruments to judge the light. When comparing, rather keeps reading the company manual that's it..
@@theshopper6902 The SL II, FV, VL, and UL series are all very close to their advertised 5600K. The original SL series is not as accurate.
Aputure lights are typically even more accurate to their advertised specs, especially throughout the brightness range.
With that said, the newer Godox lights are very good, so there's nothing to really worry about. And even if you buy Aputure lights, you should still always set a custom white balance before shooting.

I already bought VL150 after watching several of your videos, love the option to power it with a battery, I don't mind the adapter and control box separated from the body, so it doesn't accumulate heat and if one part broken I could just replace/fix that part.
I couldn't hear any noise from the fan, normal room ambient sound probably louder, although I hear a high frequency noise from the controller box when the light set to very low power (not everyone can hear this) probably common in LED lights.
Plus it comes with a bag.

Thanks for the support! It's hard to go wrong with the VL150, just a super solid light all-around. And you're right, the repairability is higher than something like the SL150W II.
I had an SL150W that developed a high pitched (and pretty loud) sound after a few months. I got it replaced, because it was very loud, and I was worried it'd get worse. If you email whoever you bought it from with video proof of the sound, I bet they'd replace the controller for you. If it's super quiet maybe not worth the hassle, but better safe than sorry.
And what you say is true for me too! My PC tower is louder than almost all my lights, so it's really not as big a deal as some people say, at least if you have a properly set up shotgun mic.

Happy to help! Although it's not as popular, the FV series has a special place because it's so unique, and is the first Godox light I ever reviewed. I don't know a lot about Godox strobes, but I would imagine you can fire both with the same trigger?

Great review! Thnx! I want to add one point. The Godox SL series of the first version has one unpleasant feature. Hot air is blown through the radiator on the led chip. In this regard, if you block the air outlet with some light modifier, the device will start to warm up more. The smaller the modifier, the more the device will warm up. A large softbox increases the temperature by several degrees, but a small lens Fresnel modifier can heat it up to 70 degrees Celsius, which leads to the device being turned off.
That's a good point, thanks for sharing. I've had a few people comment on various lights talking or asking about overheating, which I have actually never experienced, but I know it's happened to some people.

Thank you for a concise comparison video. It certainly helped me in making a decision. I have just purchased he GODOX VL150. I chose this version mainly because of the option to be able to use it on location away from a power source and also the fact that it comes with a carrying case.
I wonder if you can answer the following:- When using a lamp of this type dimmed down to 50% is it still using the full wattage of 150w or does the wattage reduce as the percentage is reduced, thereby using less electricity?

You're welcome, glad it helped.
LEDs are pretty linear as far as power Vs. output goes. So at 100% brightness, if it uses 150 watts, then at 50% brightness, it'll be close to 75 watts of power.
In reality a 150 watt light may use something like 165 watts because the COB chip is 150, and the fan and other electronics use some power too. There's also some efficiency loss, etc. but long answer short, at 50% brightness, it'll use half as much power, haha.

VL150 is nearly silent, comes with a case, has better build quality, has v-mount support... it’s just a huge upgrade in every way.
The SL150W II is another good upgrade option if you don’t need the v-mount support.

Pheeeew 😬, ... the differences in specs are not much but it definitely show in the price difference - at least when it comes to the light quality and brightness all are basically the same.
There really isn't a ton different about some of them, so you're usually paying for just 1 feature like v-mount support, no fan, flash, etc. which is only worth it if you really want that!
Your previous videos helped convince me - finally hit the "Buy" button on a VL150! It'll be here by end of week. Stoked to finally have a full key light LED set-up. Now if Godox could just release a VL60W or SL60W II that's quiet, under $200 and includes a case we'd have an excellent backlight/rim light option...

MOC1 If you do 50/50 photo/video, I might recommend dedicated strobes. If you do mostly video and occasional indoor photos, the FV is awesome.

Hi, thanks for making this video. I was surprised because Godox says that in its SL150II version the lux at 1 meter is 58000.
It is a big difference to the measurement you achieved with the photometer.
The 58,000 lux is with the stock reflector. I don't measure anything with modifiers on because all reflectors are different so it's not a fair comparison. Never trust any numbers that aren't taken bare bulb! :)

Which one is the smallest of all of these? - seems like the SL150W II considering everything is built into the head.
The VL series has the smallest heads, but has an external controller/v-mount adapter. The UL150 is the biggest head for sure, and the rest are all the same.
The SL, SL II, and FV lights have no external controller, so it’s just the head unit and 1 cable, so they are more simple to setup.

The original SL series were very much budget lights, but everything since the FV series (which includes FV, SL II, VL, and UL) are much higher quality. They still are great for beginners because the prices are usually some of the lowest, but they can easily be used in professional environments.

Quick question home use with 2 DP 400iii shooting clothing for online resale. Need some extra light for the clothing never outside just in doors SL 150 w ii or FV 150 ? Thanks so much your videos were very informative. Like and subscribed.
If you're shooting 50/50 photos/videos or more leaning towards photo, get the FV150 so you can use it in flash mode for 2 extra stops of brightness during photos. The only thing the SL150W II does better is that it has fan off mode, but since you're not recording audio, the flash functionality of the FV series is totally worth it and it can be triggered alongside other Godox strobes with the same triggers. Hope that helps!

I bought an SL150II and the fan was flat-out noisy - louder than my old SL60W. Also it didn't switch off at lower brightnesses, it was always on. The retailer told me that it's not good to leave the light on fanless mode for longer periods, so had to return it. Was it just a dud copy then? Everybody talks about how quiet the fan is...
I think so! It’s still one of the quietest lights I’ve ever tested, and the fact that the fan didn’t go off makes me think it was a faulty fan controller or something.

The guy at Essential Photo said the manual says you shouldn't run it for long periods at 100% on fanless mode as it may overheat, but I couldn't see that in the manual, and no reviewers have mentioned it...
@@WillJBailey It’s not possible to even do that as far as I remember. When you go into fabless mode, you can’t turn it up higher than 35%, which you can do indefinitely no problem.

For one person interviews would you recommend a 150w light or a 200/230w light? Maybe the latter would be overkill.
Indoors, a 150w light is good. A 200w light is only 1/3-1/2 stop brighter anyways, so the difference is very minimal.

Which among this lights is the best for filmmaking ?
They all output the same brightness and color, so it depends on what features you need. If you need portability and battery power, the VL series for sure. If you're in a studio only, I really like the SL II series. If you do a decent amount of photos alongside video, then the FV series is good.

One thing I would've liked to understand: what's the significance of the different series? Are the model numbers meant to indicate types of applications?
I'm not sure what you're looking for apart from what I covered in this video. They are all meant for video, and have slightly different feature sets, so you would just choose based on your needs.
VL has v-mount battery support, SL is the cheapest, SL II is upgraded materials and slightly quieter, UL is silent, FV is hybrid photo/video.
That's really all the main differences in a nutshell.
They also now have the ML series, which is very small 60 watts only, and the Litemons lights, which are even cheaper. They put out a lot of options that have a lot of overlap.

My reason for asking is so I can immediately match model to task. I'm thinking the "L" is "Light". I don't think I score points for that insight. The way the VL Series was initially pitched made it seem they were for "Video", so I'm thinking that's what these lights were optimised for. But back in the day, film/video studio tungsten lights didn't have fans - they just lit things and turned the room into an oven. To me, the UL Series seems far more attuned to video applications, so long as you have some decent HVAC going on.
FV: Flash, Video. ML Series: "Mini" or "Micro", or maybe "Mobile". The SZ is Zoomable... Whatever that means. I'm guessing they're pitching the light at people who've never encountered the terms 'flooding' and 'spotting'...
I don't get what the "S" or "U" signifies, but I'm pretty sure "S" doesn't mean "cheap". The closest I can get with "U" is "Unfanned".

One really obvious omission as we all start using higher frame rates is are any of all of these units flicker free at 100/120/240 fps?
Bizarrely, as a professional who has 35 years worth of kit, I have started using inexpensive LED site lights (for builders...) which work great at high frame rates, as they're off mains power (50 Hz in UK) . After a few hours the batteries start to die, then you're in trouble...!
Thanks for the comment. I haven’t come across a “filmmaking” LED in a very long time that had any issues with flicker up to 240fps, so I think it’s a thing of the past for the most part. If I ever notice it I’ll definitely say something!

Hi can you compare FV150/FV200 and SL60W when it comes to it’s continuous light and compare the FV150’s flash to a flash counterpart?
This is a super old video, so I don't have any of these lights any more. You can compare some of them here though: newlayer.com/gear/lights/compare?light1=Godox+FV200&light2=Godox+SL60W
The flash of the FV series is 4 times brighter than it is in continuous mode, which is 2 full stops in camera terms.
The FV series is still well below what even a cheap, real strobe light can produce though.
Other than sound and battery, what advantage does VL150 have over SL150II?

The VL has a carrying case and v-mount battery support. The SL is fan off mode and does not have an external battery/control ballast, but does not come with a case. That's really it.
FV150 OR FV 200, which is better for from poin of real power, usability, heating, etc.....thank you.
The only difference between the two is that the FV200 is 1/3 to 1/2 stop brighter, so you'll have to decide whether the price difference is worth it for you. Personally, unless you REALLY need it, I think the FV150 is the way to go.

I thought the VL200 would be a great investment for a key light and also I could use it outside at night with it being portable for my music videos. I would mainly be buying this for music videos. All the newest 150 watt Godox lights are the same brightness, so it just depends on which ones are on sale. The SL150W II and FV150 are almost always cheaper than the VL150, and the UL150 is almost always the most expensive.

Have you seen the new Godox LA150D? If so, and pricing was similar, would you go for it or the VL150?
I've seen it but not used it. The VL150 is different in that it has v-mount battery support and includes a carrying case. The LA150D would be more comparable to the regular SL150W II, or something like the Nanlite FS-150.
Wait...it has continuous light AND a flash capability on the FV series? No?! This is similar to what the Rotolight is toted as being able to do...only without the option of having a battery attached directly to the unit and not being multi-color, right? Well, I didn't know that!! I had thought with video LED's you ONLY get constant light...if you can get a strobe function as well...man...I might need to rethink my next purchase. Hmm....thanks for this video.
Yes! The FV series is really awesome for people who do photos and videos and want a couple more stops of brightness over the typical output of a continuous light!

Do you think they'll make an UL300 or 600?
600 definitely not and 300 I'd say 95% chance they won't in the next 1-2 years. The technology just isn't there for a COB that bright and powerful without needing fan cooling unfortunately.
Amazing video, done with subscribing as you were deserving. I am a trader and just starting TH-cam. I want to spread knowledge related to my domain. Furthermore, I am now very frustrated about which video light to use, as it's my very first time. My room is small, and I use a PC on a table. What I want to do is, I want to put my 15 pro max on the table along with an LCD monitor and want to record myself accordingly. Which light will suit me? I am open to answer any further questions you have.

Hello , good to see all specification under one video. can you share major practical difference between SL200 ii vs FV200 (apart from flash feature) in terms of continuous light quality and quantity of LUX and other features.
second Question : what's the practical aperture/power difference in 150 watt vs 200 watts. is it worthwhile spending extra money for 200 w instead 150 w for any model. i do both photography and video otherwise at commercial level. your advice will be much appreciated. thanks
The difference between the SL200W II and FV200 in terms of brightness and light quality is nothing at all, just like the SL150W II and FV150 (and VL150 and UL150 for that matter). All the latest generation of Godox video lights share the same brightness and quality when they are the same wattage.
The practical difference is that the 200 watt lights are 1/2 stop brighter than the 150 watt versions, so it just depends on whether that is worth the price difference for you :)
The godox lights are on sale so the VL150 is cheaper than the SL150W II. Can you please tell me why I’d need to buy a 200w light instead of a 150?
I have an f/4 lens on an APS-C sensor and shoot primarily indoors. Perhaps I may want to light someone a small kitchen while cooking. Do I need or will I benefit from the 1/2 stop added brightness? Would I better put the money toward a faster lens?

I would get the 150 and put the money towards an f/2.8 zoom r f/1.8 prime lens. The 1/2 stop difference isn’t very much, and the 200 requires 2 v-mount batteries instead of just 1 like the 150. Hope that helps.

I got a rare request to video a few speeches for a book release party in a large ballroom. Pretty much none of the lights I own (mostly for interviews, basically softboxes with some LED bulbs inside) will work well unless i can get them close. I have a limited budget for the shoot, would prefer to buy (but could rent) a light. Any recommendations on something I could put further in the back of the room and focus on the speakers that would still create a good video light? Seems this FLS8 Fresnel might be magical for that, even with something like a 150w led? I wander if it can work with FV200
A large ballroom would be very tough. Even a 300-600 watt light with a fresnel would probably not be great if it has to be in the back of the room if it's too large.
I'd say a better choice would be a couple smaller lights on the left and right sides of the "stage" with stock reflectors. You won't get soft light out of anything really, but by having multiple lights, you'll get a better look and less harsh shadows. You could put even 60 watt lights with reflectors 15-20 feet away and they'd be bright enough.
I know that's probably only slightly helpful, but it's hard to say without knowing the exact size and layout of the space and limitations you might have with placement.

Is the FV obviously the best if I really am a hybrid shooter? I have the original SL60 but do need something more powerful. Also have 2 godox strobes so a 3rd extra light could be really nice. I just don't know or can't see the downside of the FV?
Although the FV is 2 stops brighter in flash mode than in continuous mode, it’s still not as bright as dedicated strobes, so that’s the downside. If you’re shooting indoors only, the FV200 should be good enough unless you’re trying to use giant soft boxes or shoot at f/11+, so it just depends on your style I guess. Nothing will come close to a powerful strobe.
With that said, it’s basically the same cost as the SL II series, and is the only LED I know with a flash mode, so it’s still an exceptional light.
very nice review ! what about SL60W for noise ? I'd like to take pictures and videos of babies, flowers, still life. What about the use of an octobox 85-105cm ? I am afraid 60W is not enough to keep a good iso and shutter speed and 150W is better. idea would be to shoot bbies at 100iso, 1/125s, F1.8-F2.8
The SL60W and original SL150W are louder than all the others, but I used them in talking head videos for quite a while without issues. They are not loud to the point where they'll bother your ears, it's just a consideration for whether the microphone will hear them.
To get ISO, 1/125 second, and f/1.8-2.8 with a large softbox, you'd need a light that puts out ~4,000-10,000 lux. Any 150-200 watt Godox light will output 6,500-9,000 lux and should work.
The bigger issue (with babies) is that contrary to popular belief, continuous lights are not good for babies, and you should use strobes. Having a continuous light source that bright also causes me to squint badly, so it would have the same effect on another person. That's why people shoot video at ISO 400-800 at 1/50 second typically, it's a much more comfortable brightness and about 3-4 full stops dimmer.
