@ 7:00 I'm not classically trained, and most of the stuff I've learned has been from YT. Anyway, I thought I understood setting the camera for natural white, but I really didn't until you explained how it works.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
You’re welcome!
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, and I also use the Content Creator subscription for some of my TH-cam vids. I have to say you consistently put out great stuff. This one came at the perfect time as I am preparing to do a photo shoot for a movie poster and I have been looking for a comprehensive guide to lights. Thanks for the content! Out of curiosity, if I'm shooting with a green screen, which would be the best lighting source out of all the options you provided? I do have a smaller space, so I'm wondering if the panel would be optimal?
that's incredibly helpful man
Worth watching 🤝❤️
Thank you
Thanks you for good information
I've got cb60b and fs150b as well which is perfect and completely silent

Thank you for this amazing video
Thank You!
this video is amazing. should be a requirement for all film students!
Guy you contents are great!! Really easy to understand and helpful! However do you have a video about you also explain how to use a camera flash in the best way like this one about light? Thanks for your work!!
Good video come from TV myself and have been working with light for a long time... an addition that you might not know, but if you do something in this direction again here we go… there is still the difference between people with light and people with dark skin (like me, here it is different because of the mixed colors) accordingly I have to adjust the light color, because especially with dark skin the color nuances vary is absolutely necessary with the light source to adapt accordingly...
In the analogue era I come from, there were Kodak and Fuji, among others, one was adapted for light skin and the other for Asian skin, so there was a different color management for cameras for a long time, ergo Sony vs. Canon... Color combinations didn't just come about that way, they should also support the reproduction of skin nuances... whenever you would like to know more let me know…
a really good video thanks 🙏🏾
Could you use the latern to light the scene without overhead lighting and the Octobox to light the single subject at the same time?
I bought his course and manged to get from a novice to a professional in less than a month, he is very generous in terms of the info and insights he provides. He is becoming my reference in all things digital regarding content creation.
Thanks so much for writing this. You made my day!
Super helpful video, thanks man! All the Neewer point lights look like great picks.
Glad to help!
thank you dear, it was really helpful
You're welcome 😊
Thank you!!!!
watching your video and your ad playing on it is the best flex ever
Hahaha thank you 😂
I’m curious about lighting for art videos. Need to avoid light reflecting off paint or water. Would a defuser work? I’m shooting straight down on my desk. Thx so much. 😊
Of all the videos I’ve watched
I finally understand warmer temperatures and bi colors
🔥💪🏻💪🏻
is there a grid attachment for the mountdog?
Best lighting vid I've seen so far
Thank you!
Hands down the best teacher in the industry. Changed my life
💪🏻❤️ thanks Josh!
This is so detailed>>>
Thanks!
Great video 👍 thank you
Thanks ❤ good information
Welcome!
Great video! I have a question about that Neewer 100W point light - how does it compare to the Godox SL series? I'm still yet to buy the main workhorse light and I considered Godox SL300 before, but this little fella seems to be much cheaper (I could basically buy 2 or 3 of them for the price of 1 Godox). So - is it enough for everyday commercial application, or it's better to invest in something stronger, like the 300W lights I previously considered? Thanks!
PS: Agree about the tube lights - for me these were the real game-changer :D while it's true they're not good as the first and only light, they're irreplaceable for getting an instantly motivated light, especially as they're so easy to compose into very different scenes and scenarios. I have 3 of them and will probably get even more :D
This video was so needed thank you
You’re welcome!
Fantastic video ❤thank you
There's a bunch of things to consider. There's the inverse square law that basically means that the farther away your lighting sources are, the more power you need on them to produce the light that you had when it was close to you. Also the fact that once you add a soft box to a light source, you're spreading the light out, yes, but you're also reducing the overall output because that same amount of light is now being redirected and flattened out over a wider area. So if you go with a very large soft box you will need a very powerful light in it to evenly distribute the light and have it remain as powerful as it was before.
Your content is great! New subscriber 😊
Welcome aboard!
I have a ringlight as my room light for just cheap quick stay still setup along with daytime bulbs in my ceiling. Panel lights for my on the go setup. And getting my single point light next with a honey comb & lantern diffuser. What abt a strobe light for portable photography light?
Just found your channel. You’re amazing. I’ve been doing this for years but we can always learn something from each other and I picked up a couple things from you. Thank you for sharing 🫶🏽
Thanks so much!
Great info! Thank you!
You got it!
Thank you for all the data! Quick question: I need a silent light so I can do takes of tracking sessions at my recording studio. So am I destined to use LED panels only? Thank you
LED panels can still have fans too especially the larger they get so double check before buying. Im not sure how quiet you need it to be but I can’t hear the fans on any of the lights mentioned in this video unless I’m standing within inches of the fan
Excellent content. very helpful
❤️💪🏻
great video, much appreciated!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another useful TIP: Here is another tip for diffusing the LED panel rectangle light, you can add an umbrella holder adapter that attaches to the stand under the rectangle LED light (I found these on Amazon) then add a shoot through 26 inch white umbrella (both are low cost items). I tried this on two 10-inch (and my other 14-inch) LED panels and it works great needing only one stand per LED panel and not two stands (compared to using a round circular diffuser in front of LED). After attaching the umbrella in adapter, slightly angle the LED panel down toward the center of white translucent umbrella and it spreads across soft light. An all-on-one stand solution that can be moved around easily. Other videographers use this sometimes as an inexpensive (and mobile) solution. Or get a lantern, or softbox as suggested in the video when you have the funds.
🔥
Very nice video, and helpfull, thank you, but there are some minor things to mention...
Panel lights will usually have less output than songle chip lights. And, the light spill from them is a lot more difficult to control. RGB lights are great but (when used in rgb mode) will have significantly less output than bi color or daylight lights.
Neweer lights are great but the 70w light will have 33000 lx output only with reflector on, usually 60-79w lights have open face output of 4-5000 lx (and that is important, since that is the way you will be using them with the modifier on...).
When choosing the softbox, besides factoring the size, it is wise to chose an umbrella type that opens like the, well, umbrella... setting up a non umbrella type is quite time consuming and irritating.
Oh and it is also wise to get a skirt for the lantern type modifier. It cuts the light from the sides when used overhead, leaving the walls, for example, darker. Not all lanterns canbe fitted with skirt.
What a gem 💎
this is one of the best videos i have seen about lighting !.....just one question, what about a filllight and a hairlight ,isnt that needed also ?
Thanks! So this was a little more about the "gear" not so much the "how to light" but yes you would want a backlight and fill light in different scenarios as well.
Thanks for sharing ❤
You are so welcome
Great video!!!
For Green Screens, should we use lighting that focuses just the subject, or lights that also hit the green screen? Or two lights; one for subject, one for greenscreen?
The main focus is just having the green screen be evenly lit so that the color doesn't change. For example if one half of the screen was bright and the other was dark that makes it harder for your computer to key out or replace the green screen. So however you light it that is the main focus.
Great comprehensive light video. What are you using for the graphics and writing on screen? That is crisp and juicy
Premiere pro! We teach how to do it all in our course!
Great video. Would those large tube lights work either side of a green screen for creating the even light necessary for accurate chroma keying? Don’t really have room for other options which may also create hotspots
Yes, absolutely
thanks for the explanation..I could've used this decades ago.
You're welcome!
This is great contents.
If one is going to buy a 65cm lantern softbox for use with the Neewer CB60B, should one use a bracket with it? EDIT: I'm doing video and it seems like brackets are for when using flashes in photography. Anyways, thanks for the great overall explainer!
This video was really good!
Thank you!
How does passing light through a medium change the softness of the light? It's only about the size of the source....
Can we use these lights on filming on IPhone ?
Very nicely explained. This video I can easily share with beginners. Only thing missing was flex panels like GODOX FL150S (No fans, portable, lightweight , versatile and can add softbox)
Yeah flex panels are great!
Great video! Which one would you choose: NEEWER MS60B Bi Color vs Godox ML60bi? I would prefer them to have battery option as I don't always get AC power...thanks
I would go with Neewer!
@@MrPaulXavier great! Just ordered one and will get a soft box...not the biggest one but something I can carry easily. Thanks
@@MrPaulXavier hey there...ok...I got it and I'm testing it. I also got the Godox. The only way to compare...one has to go back...The Neewer is a bit nicer for sure (but it comes in a weak carrying bag that won't last long)- The godox comes in a better carrying bag- but the main thing is the light output. I connected them both to AC power and they are both about the same once I added softboxes and diffusers.. but when I connected them to Sony batteries (something I will do sometimes when I don't get access to AC) I noticed that the power output in the Neewer diminished in comparison to the same setting while connected to AC- maybe the light can't give the same power with battery but I did the same test with the Godox, and I don't see the same issue-same sony batteries and the light output stays almost the same as with AC...hmm....I know large Sony batts won't last more than 30-45 min max but I would prefer if the light kept its light output the same whether AC or battery operated. Will do more tests. The Neewer is $120-150 cheaper than the Godox here in Canada
This is incredibly helpful
love to hear that!
Me too
Thank you a really helpful video.
You're welcome!
