    Put a small piece of scotch tape on your fans before using any sort of compressed air or electric duster. Shooting air at them will force the fans to spin way faster than they're designed and has a very high chance of causing damage to the bearings. (I've ruined 4 120mm fans by spraying them with duster.) Aside from that, you can properly clean dust off of them when they are stationary, though I usually use some rubbing alcohol and a paper towel anyway, since fans collect the most dust.

    • @HCkev
      @HCkev 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you break a fan by blowing air on it, then you did yourself a favor, that fan was on its way out anyway.

      I know this is a four year old comment, but can't you just hold the fan stationary with a finger?
      Edit: didn't see that he basically did it in the video

      @@IShaderI Compressed air can blow multiple fans at once if you're not careful where you're aiming. I find it's best to just make sure that none of them can move before blasting them.

    Hmmm is the silver screw where you're supposed to attach the grounding strap's alligator clip? (Perhaps similar to a turntable preamp grounding post, you're supposed to undo the screw enough for the alligator clip to bite down on the screw threads.)

    Hopefully the instructions don't say to connect the anti static strap to the painted surface at the bottom.

  • @Zooumberg

    Great video. But unplug your fans when cleaning them. Also stop them spinning. Allowing them to spin freely can destroy them and not unplugging them, can damage the motherboard.

    paint brush is good for tight spots

  • @ghiagoo
    @ghiagoo ปีที่แล้ว

    So this is just an air blower? There isn't an ionizer in it? So that grounding strap is enough to eliminate static being generated by that high speed high volume of air? BUt it doesn't eliminate static on the surface being cleaned, it just doesn't produce anymore than is already present? There are ionizer air guns in the paint industry to eliminate static on cars to be painted. The ionization process emilminates the static on the surface. Would an ionizing air gun be bad for cleaning computers and electronics?

    why did you use the wide tip use the narrow tip does much better,
    those things heat up a good bit after a few min too btw, works very well on tight spaces when using the narrow tip

    • @Drakey_Fenix
      @Drakey_Fenix 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The narrow tip doesn't make the air pressure stronger. I have one myself and have tried those. All it does is make the airflow weaker and it takes double the time to remove all the dust plus the whole unit gets really warm due to the slow airflow through the motor. I'm surprised at all the TH-camrs who use the small attachment. I guess they just had your logic and never tried the bigger one.

    Don't let your fans free spin with that blower. hold them while you do it. It may sound cool, but you run the risk of damaging them. Bearings don't like it very much. I've seen bearings explode from free spinning! Fan blades too! Just so you are aware.

Because I am going to clean PC in hospital environment, obviously this way is not suitable for me to clean the PC in their ward area, even in their maintenance workshop, i don't think that I will be allowed to blow dust everywhere. Pretty sure the antistatic wrist strap has to be hooked to the PC case, so the PC and you (and the duster) are on the same electrical level. You have your hand on the duster anyway so hooking the strap to the duster isn't going to do anything.

    Get real about your review. Bought this from PC case gear. You should have mentioned some common concerns. Personally I concur that air seems to escape on the side of the can (where that silver screw is). This is is specially the situation when you try and use the smaller attachments. There is a lot of loss of air pressure because of this leak and quite frankly it’s not going to be useful for surgical cleaning of your pc. You’ll need a can of air for that.
    The main attachment works well enough. It will blow out bulk dust. But I could have used a hairdryer for that.
    Also, the machine gets hot after a few minutes of use.
    This machine is overpriced
    I am not generally impressed.

    You can buy the ED500 instead, just as safe as this and cheaper. I know people who have cleaned over 300 towers with the ED500 and none of them were ruined in any way. This whole "short circuit ESD-paranoia" has gone a little bit too far...

    • @HCkev
      @HCkev 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ESD safe version would make more sense for dusting circuit boards that aren't screwed to a metal case like components in a PC, or to blow on bare components. Like in a electronic boards assembly room for example. I've been using the ED500 for years and never zapped a component while blowing the dust off a PC.
