Since ordering a SG tshirt I've been buzzing my head, screaming at minivans, and making thinly veiled comments about putting people in my trunk. I've never been happier.
@@dragospahontu They deliberately engineered it to a price point, a business decision I don't really take issue with. It'll be interesting to see what the aftermarket comes up with for it. If they actually sell a lot of these that'll make it more likely that performance enhancements for it will be developed.
@@dragospahontu No, they did what they did ON PURPOSE! Those of us that bought one, don't want to spend more for a nice interior that we don't look at. We don't want to spend more for a stereo that we turn off. This is a $32,500 (what I paid) hot hatch that can go from the showroom to the track without any modifications... and you can have a blast.
I've had DCT since January. Six track days and 50+ autocross runs later I've had zero issues. Coolant and Oil have never gotten too hot. Brake performance has been great. I still have half of my pads left which is just nuts. The interior is cheap, don't care, don't have time to look at it. Seats are great for the track, so-so for the street, very thin. My biggest gripe is the tires. Wish they had gone with Michelin PS4S. A stiffer sway bar from Whiteline fixes the understeer to a large degree. While I love flicking through the gears myself on track, I've found that TrackSense mode is faster than me.
@@gwcrispi ok, what coolant temperature is "too hot" ? Pardon my ignorance but as far as I know, the need stays centre and if it passes there then there's a problem either with your thermostat, pump or fan.
@@robbylebotha Nah, in the Performance options you get a digital readout of several things down to the exact degree. I have Coolant Temp and Oil Temp on that screen when I am racing. I know what "normal" is from driving. Coolant around 200 and Oil in the low 200's to 250. So I know if they're going up. The needle indicator near the Tach is bogus. The pointer is just below 9 o'clock (normal) as soon as the temp gets to 140. From 140 to 200 the needle doesn't move any more. I posted on this on the Veloster N forum.
I recently drove the N on one of my favorite back roads. I currently drive mk7 GTI and I can say that I wish I hadn't driven the N..lol 🤦♂️ I know there's a lot of haters out there, but the truth is, the N absolutely crushes the GTI when it comes to handling, driving feel and fun. Great video!!
Let people hate. Honda for a long time had a stigma as well. Road and Track named the N performance car of the year in 2020. So regardless of what people think of the brand the Veloster N is doing something right. Thanks to Albert Biermann. Yes, it comes with compromise but the car is an absolute blast to drive and is backed by a good warranty and three years free maintenance. (That's what my dealer gave me)
This was one of the best car reviews I have ever seen, you obviously drive these cars to way higher levels than the average car review and have answered way more of my questions.
Firmly agree. Just discovered this channel a couple weeks ago and every vid is what I would deliver if I put my very best foot forward. This is a near as damnit flawless channel with information delivered by a clearly seasoned, sensible, passionate, and intelligent dude. I'm a recovering "car guy" who has turned a wrench far too many times and I basically align with 100-percent of the info in these vids that I can relate to, so I absolutely trust the stuff that's news to me
Been watching this channel for the last couple of years, and I truly cannot believe how in-depth and intelligent this program has become. By Far The Best Automotive Review Channel on TH-cam....In fact, so good, that my daughter just purchased her first brand new car, a 2022 Hyundai Elantra, based on Mark and Jack's opinions! Thanks Guys!!!
I've owned a 2019 GTI rabbit edition manual and up until today, a GLI 35th anniversary edition manual . Yesterday I took the N DCT out for a 1 1/2 hour test drive (by myself of course). I then went straight to the VW dealer and drove a GTI Autobahn DSG for an hour. I wanted to compare the two dual clutches. I had never driven the VW DSG 7 speed, I drove the 6-speed DSG a few years ago, thought it was good but still opted for a manual. I am a VW fan, have owned several, thought the GTI was the best for the money in the segment. It is hard to put into words how superior the N is compared to a GTI DSG. The GTI seems sluggish, slow and soft and unrefined by comparison. I was kind of shocked once I had the proper perspective. The N is far more refined than the 7 gen GTI, yes I said it, more refined, much more. The 8th gen GTI will be out in a few months, imo there is no way it will catch up to the 2021 DCT N, not a chance. The N is fast, really fast, each upshift rockets you forward and it just keeps pulling. The regular automatic mode is the best I've ever driven, it shifts like you're using the paddles. I traded my GLI and bought an N today.
I just got a Kona N and the DCT is as good as the ones in 100k cars.I think in a tech manual it matches the shift times of the dct or dsg in a 2020 ferrari model and shifts as good as an RS5 I have driven. Its a new wet clutch and having owned and driven many cars--hyundais has come a long way.I also had owned a 2020 stinger GT 3.3TT for a while and that ZF 8 speed auto was also fantastic--better then the ones in chargers and benzes.it also auto rev matches when you take turns in it without using the brake and does so with the precision and smoothness of a high end watch.Iv only had it a few days and it is my favorite car i have had.
I appreciate you guys taking a 2nd look at the Veloster N. I picked up a DCT model earlier this year after shopping CTR, GR86/BRZ, GTI, and Civic Si. For me, it came down to value. Really loving the car so far after daily driving, road tripping, and autocrossing it. The warranty really adds peace of mind too. And the 3rd door is great for my dogs!
My son just got a 2020 N Manual (almost new). I’m old, but love racing cars. I never owned one. We rented several cars to 1) teach clutch, and 2) compare speed, handling, etc. C7 Z51, Polaris Singshot, 370z, WRX, Miata RF. I loved the Corvette. More power than I’m able to control on a road, but great and scary- if you got $$. 370z had good acceleration, and good handling, but not like a Miata (also decade old design). The Miata was just too damn slow! Polaris was a blast but not super fast and impractical for daily driving. WRX is a good car, but I hated the turbo lag. Then there’s the Veloster N. Never drove one until we test drove and purchased it. Funnest, best handling on back roads at frightening, perfectly planted balls-out speeds. It was the R&T 2020 Performance Car of the Year! It beat out some of the best cars out there! I could care less about the interior. It’s functional and comfortable. I don’t need to spend $90k+ for leather and electric, heated seats and steering wheels or Bose speakers. It kicks ass and is an absolute rocket that you aren’t afraid of sliding off the road. Great review guys!! Thanks 🙏
Wow, you guys seriously need 1M+ subs. The insight and knowledge you guys go into as far as driving dynamics is unmatched. The closest I can think is the Best Motoring videos from Japan but that's in a different language and a lot of their videos don't have English subs. And I love how you guys are able to talk about things seriously (too many car reviewers act like cartoon characters 100% of the time). The level of detail you guys go into (with the driving experience to back it up) is ridiculous in a good way. Thank you!
I agree. I've been watching the SG videos for so long now I've grown accustomed to it and almost expect it but go watch nearly all other channels then you truly appreciate how great these videos are and how much work these guys put into them.
Feel it's more important that every subscriber they do have watch the videos and allow the ads to play or support on patreon. No point in having a million subs but not having useful revenues.
@Yirlani calm down bro, a lot of cars nowadays feel more like a video game. People like you need to lighten the fuck yo and stop trying to suck the fun out of everything. Let the man have as he stated in his comment, his own opinion. You say grow up but I can guarantee you’re some teenager trying to act all big on the internet 😂 but good one bud. Lighten up and don’t take everything so hard, it’s not a dick. It was an observation.
@Yirlani how the hell is enjoying an overboost feature parallel to your theory of men lol. I am genuinely shocked that people like you function well enough to use the internet.
Was so incredibly impressed by this car when I had it a few months ago. I just love its vibe and its exuberance. The fact that it exists is a positive for enthusiasts. Excellent review as always. 👍🏻
If Hyundai keeps improving their vehicles at the current rate, it’s not out of the question that I may own one in the future. It’s still a hard pill to swallow for a guy who grew up when the Hyundai Pony was introduced. Keep it up Hyundai.
It’s been obvious for a few years that Hyundai/Kia has been competing with Volkswagen head-to-head (car-to-car) and I wouldn’t have believed it ten years ago had I been told of their success against the German giant, today. Hyundai is no longer just “killing ecnonowheel drive” in their own right, they’re straight murdering the king of it. Unfortunately, fwd pricing is insane and i wouldn’t say the veloster is several thousand dollars better than a gti or si
This video and the 2021 rework made me pull the trigger. just got back from my local dealer and got a Veloster N in performance blue with the DCT. Thanks SavageGeese.
All the praise you offered the DCT is exactly where Subaru went wrong. I applaud any manufafturer that keeps 3 pedals, but Subaru has made a critical error not developing a DCT for the WRX/STi. The VN is seriously the performance bargain of the century, it's like a cheat code IRL.
I always cheer a little when I see a new SG review pop up that is significantly longer than 10 minutes. When it's nearing or over 30 minutes I'm nearing the ecstasy feeling.
I have a '22 Veloster N DCT. I test drove a Golf R. The golf R is close but not even in the same realm of "racecar". The golf R is too refined and not nearly sharp enough. It is much floatier and doesn't feel as capable, even if it is on paper. The VN has unbelievable handling. Crazy fun. I only wish it had a 2nd N custom mode. That would mean you could have 1 loud for highway driving and 1 quiet for town driving. Since owning this, for some reason, 6 people in honda junkers thought their car was faster. They were not. Why are people in old beaters always trying to race? If the Civic type R wasn't marked up to 45-50k, I would have gotten it, but I am VERY happy with the VN DCT. The way the gears slam you back in your seat leaves me grinning like a fool every time. The shifts are so fast it's ridiculous. Very happy I got one while they were out.
I have this car in PB and love it!!! One of the most fun cars I have ever driven.. I think Hyundai did a great job with the performance and fun factor of this car for 35K..well that's the price when I bought it in January 2021..
Own a 2021 DCT. Always loved hot hatches owned several GTI’s, 2 mazdaspeed3, civic and a AMG GLA 45. This car is my favorite, performance, fun, exhaust is fantastic and the ability to adjust everything easily is amazing for $33,500. Oh and 0-60 in 4.8 ain’t bad either.
@@Guy_on_TH-cam I bought mine used. Got lucky, it has 1600 miles on it and got it for $31,998. I actually ended up selling it for more when I traded it in for a Kona N recently. It’s a strange market. But with the warranty Hyundai has I recommend buying used for less than dealer mark ups on new ones.
@@Guy_on_TH-cam just bought one for MSRP in Gresham, Oregon. Paid just over $33K for a manual version. They wanted $2k over MSRP, but some hard negotiating got them to bring down the price.

Just bought an Ioniq and I love it. Used to do valet and I loved the Veloster those things are so much fun, no doubt in my mind Hyundai/Kia make the best cars for the money these days. They have excellent warranties as well.
some niggling problems on my kia forte gt though, barely used.. i dunno if its just mine or wider quality issues. Had a honda civic sport touring (which I didnt love) never had a single problem
As much as I would always go for the manual for cars like the Veloster N, the DCT is a huge improvement for Hyundai/Kia especially compared to the past DCTs they had in their cars And also they put the right setup for the gear lever like how it should have been in the beginning especially how a manual gear works and how it follows the momentum of the car Porsche also got it right with the PDK too
Im happy with my gti purchased but i had a chance to drive the dct veloster N and it is real fun. Especially the exhaust noise. What swayed me to the gti was the comfort and interior. It’s my daily so it had to hit all of those points
It's because of this video that I got the Red 2021 Veloster N DCT! Thank you SG you guys have done such a great job with this vid that it convinced me to actually by this car! No regrets thank you thank you!
Great review. I drive a manual, but I appreciate Hyundai's efforts in developing a DCT in-house that improves performance and makes the car more accessible to more people. I also find it interesting that folks consider a $34k hot hatch "affordable". With a household median income of $61k a year in the US, I feel like we're setting expectations a little high and encouraging people to buy cars they can't afford by labeling it as "affordable". Believe me when I say I've been on car forums where someone's asked if it's a bad decision to trade in a car that they still owe $12k with no equity for a brand NEW "affordable" $28k car.
@Scott Myers Also if you stream music from a phone, check to see if your phone has an adjustable EQ. I've had a few lease cars with truly terrible radios but can fine tune the audio on my phone to get some surprisingly good results. My Fusion has a "Premium 210 watt 11 speaker" audio system and it's mostly garbage UNLESS I'm streaming audio from my smartphone.
@Scott Myers been thinking about doing that with mine down the road. I've got an annoying rattle from the passenger side speaker that's there at pretty much any volume above 6-7. For what it is, I can't complain. I enjoy it. It's about on par with the Bose system that was in my Speed3.
Seriously tired of hearing these review hacks complain (blah blah blah) cheap plastic interior. This material is a low-cost weight reduction design. Instead of crying about it all the time please provide your solution to cost vs weight. I love reviews that actually give solutions to the problems that are constantly an issue. This is a really amazing technical review and the best one I have found to justify an actual purchase for the technology and warranty!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the great work My Geese and Pipes!
The better GTI would have been the i30N (Elantra GT N), but we aren't getting it at this point. The US market is so obsessed with crap that doesn't matter, so we get the Veloster. I've got the normal Elantra GT as my daily beater, and I love the thing. The N version reminds me of the Mazdaspeed3.
Three time GTI owner here. But I've also owned two KIA Sorentos so I don't have an unfounded prejudice against Korean vehicles. When the Veloster N was introduced I thought it was an appealing track toy but little else. The upgrades including what is apparently a vastly improved Hyundai DCT have reduced the distance between the Veloster N and the GTI but I'd still stick with my GTI. Reasons? It's inside where I spend my time interacting with a vehicle and the interior features and trim of my Autobahn GTI are far more appealing than the Veloster. The "N" still looks and feels like an econobox from the driver's seat. Secondly, the external appearance of the "N" doesn't quite match the inflated Hot Wheels looks of the Civic Type R but it comes close. And I'm not 12 years old. Finally, among the features of the GTI I value most is its versatility in terms of its mission. When needed the generous and highly usable cargo space of the GTI comes close to or exceeds that of the Veloster and even subcompact SUVs its size. And while the unique 3rd door of the Veloster makes the rear seat more accessible than would be the case with a 2 door coupe, the GTI does it one better with four doors. I'm impressed by the specs of the Veloster's engine but I've long ago learned that (a) VW's engine specs for its remarkable EA888 engine are typically understated and (b) major increases in both HP and torque can be had with a 30 minute Stage I tune of the GTI's ECU. (Contrary to a common misunderstanding such a tune does not invalidate the GTI's warranty.) All in all, Mr. Biermann and his associates continue to do an outstanding job on Hyundai and KIA vehicles. But I wouldn't give up my GTI for a Veloster N.
“There’s so much harmonic distortion, there’s such a lack of clarity and it’s very bass heavy” SG unwittingly describing the music industry since the mid 90s. Or maybe wittingly and he’s what we all suspected all along. A cultural icon that we never asked for but desperately need.
Sadly, in this age of electronically produced music, a lot of people don’t know what music is supposed to sound like. Some will think it sounds good just because it has enough bass to rattle the windows.
@@darylaarons6625 agreed. Heavy bass for home theater movies?-fantastic. For actual music? Uhhh...no except when used to further disguise some of the crap and redundancy that’s being churned out as music these days.
*Mainstream* music has sucked for about that long, I agree. I thought this was a phenomenon of the last twelve years specifically, but I was playing a Burnout game with licensed music in it from the mid '00s, and every track but two was bland, studio garbage. With time, the actual decent to good stuff that the labels ignore will be more commonly associated with this era. My money's on Dirty Loops, Twin Shadow, and Caleb Hawley.
Great review again! I had a 2013 Focus ST and It was unbearable to drive on the street for more than 30 minutes. I bought it brand new and sold it a year later. Loved the twitchyness of it, but hated daily driving it. I love the honesty of your reviews. Keep it up! 👍👍👍
That dual clutch is a superb addition. I’m a manual preferred but facing the realities of what the next phases are in drivetrain evolution, this is a pleasant treat. Hoping the reliability (aside from warranty) is above the other dual clutch providers in that segment .

Get the veloster while you can. It's one of the last few of its kind and absolutely the best in its segment for driving. I cannot believe that these things are dying but I hold out that it stays around just a bit longer.
Oddly enough they weren't when it first came out. The title of the old video mentioned "not great, not terrible..." and his review pretty much said it wasn't that good of a car. Did Hyundai leave a horse head in his bed? th-cam.com/video/DZ376LuY2gs/w-d-xo.html
@@markmiller3279 There are NOT dramatic improvements over the 2019-2020 N. Other than the DCT-stuff (like N-grin), optional seats and the base car now being the old performance package everything is exactly the same. The horsehead reference comes from the old Sicilian mafia way of convincing someone to agree with them by leaving a horsehead in your bed...if you continued to "disagree" with them your head was next. Since the first review was "meh" and this review is kind of "wow" I wondered what Hyundai did to change SGs mind.

Great review. Fun car for those folks who live out in the country but probably not the best hot hatch for the other 75ish% percent of us that live in urban/suburban environments. Btw, after watching for a couple years, I think this is the best car channel available now.
Great review from these guys, as always! Have driven both the Type R and the updated Veloster N. My two cents: Type R had staggering amounts of turn in, precision, road feel. On the track or if you want to log best numbers, that's the bomb. But the Veloster N DCT was even more fun to drive. The power was smoother, more predictable. The steering and road feel are sublime. Between these cars, it's a matter of preference, they're both incredibly good and both more fun than cars costing A LOT more that I've driven. The GTI is a great option if you don't mind numbing the driving experience a bit and need this to be your DD commuter car. The 2015 + and 2022 WRX is a great option if you need AWD and want total practicality and bang for the buck with in a very competent package. I drove a WRX with Michilin Pilots and was blown away by how fast it could move through familiar corners. The WRX and it will hold up against a lot of competition. But the most fun to drive of all of these overall, to me, was the Veloster N. Only bummer is that there aren't more of these kinds of cars around. All of them VERY capable and entertaining. Having driven all the cars mentioned, hope this helps with decision between them. They're all great, just different flavors.
In 2020 I got a Stinger GT 3.3TT AWD instead of a Type R--the Type R had to be revved to get any speed while my Stinger felt like a NA V8 Muscle car.I also wanted a decent stock drag car to goto public drag and the stinger did not dissapoint.I aslo put geomet cross drilled and vented rotors on all 4s for road courses but the Stinger skyrocketed in price and i sold it--had a Mazda Cx-30 turbo for the last 6 months and just traded it dead even--had to pay 1k in taxes--and got a brand new 0 mile red kona N.I was actually able to pocket a little over 10k (after all is said and done) and although i do not have the stinger--I own my Kona N and have an extra 10k in my car bank account. The Kona N also has a lot of torque down low and it revs more then the stinger--but not like a Type R.I also will prob never get a car that sits low again now that they make sport CUV/small SUV--my stingers door sills and front skirts were so low that they were nicked and dinged--and even noticeably so after public drag night with rubber bouncing off the low skirts and door.
Can anyone imagine a veloster N "R" with the corporate 2.5T tuneup for performance, awd, with a hardcore adjustable suspension and a much better selection of materials for the interior? This would definitely would place the veloster with the golf R and Honda type R
They could possibly drop in the 2.5T for not too much more, but AWD would take major modifications, a hardcore suspension would have few takers and be too expensive, and a big upgrade of the interior would be tricky. The Veloster still has to sell in regular form as a cheap hatch, so the normal interior can't be upgraded significantly, and having to swap out major parts of the doors of dash for soft-touch materials would cost too much. The Civic already had a nice interior, so the Type R could get away with a few cosmetic upgrades.
@@markmiller3279 There would be wayyyy more than a 'few' takers if the car was AWD. Also it wouldn't take 'major modifications.' The fuel tank needs changed to open up a full driveshaft space but there is nothing else in the way. Next, Hyundai just needs to collaborate with Mitsubishi again -- the current N engine is a cousin of the 4B11 in the Mitsubishi Evo X. Frankly with not a lot of changes the 4B11 could probably be put in the Veloster N -- giving it one of the best handling and performing AWD systems available. Do that and sell the car for 40k -- lines of people would be there to drop their wallets.
When I was looking for a newer, affordable fast hatch it was down to this, the Mazda3T, and the GTI (DSG). Ultimately I went with the GTI because I was tired of waiting for the Veloster N to get its DCT, and the Mazda3 to get its turbo. I'm extremely happy with my choice for its versatility and qualities as a daily driver, as well as the HUGE aftermarket presence for when I'm ready to start modding. That being said, both of my alternative choices are cars whose development I've enthusiastically followed for a couple years now, and it's SO great to see the expansion of the hot hatch market again. I like that there aren't really any perfect comparisons against any of the cars in this segment, as they all bring their own elements to the table in ways that distinguish them from the others. Edit: I know I have to bring up that the Mazda3T isn't actually a "hot hatch" but by its virtues, it's so close to being one that I don't have a problem calling it as such.
And now I would say for the price Mazda 3 turbo 2.5 Then veloster N Then golf the last Personal opinion Mazda turbo 35k cad Veloster N 41-43k Good gti not the R 45+ K
I love my GTI but I understand when comparing these 2 cars, in sacrifice of speed you gain a little luxury. You can always tune your GTI a bit to catch up ;) I feel a bit more grown up in a GTI.
The GTI will be MUCH faster than an N once tuned and we are talking about the MK7, now that the MK8 clubsport GTI with 300 HP and a DSG came out, I would never look at the N. Imagine Stage 1 on that clubsport GTI MK8, I would have everything from comfort to practicality to smoking any N on the street.
@@najminmalcusis15 Uh...until the N is similarly modified. There are already 400whp with built internal cars prowling the US streets and highways as we speak. Lap3 is one company doing these mods as is Sxth element for milder (~350whp) mods.
@@Booshka823 here we go again. LOL. Lets teach you a little about tuning. The 400whp Veolester Ns are all on METH while the MK7 will do it on pump. The fastest they could run with that 400WHP N was still in the 12 SECONDS, while the MK7 just broke RECORD FOR 10 seconds on STOCK BLOCK. The N in NO WAY can tune like the MK7 will in any form while the N should in reality be compared to the MK8. The MK8 GTI with a single piggy back is doing the same timing 100-200 of an M3. SPEAK TO ANY TUNER, the way the Ns ENGINE is designed it will NEVER be able to gain as much power as the MK7 platform let alone the MK8 platform The second tuning is involved the N will be out of the picture Btw the MK7 platform that came out 8 years ago was doing 400whp by the 2nd year. The sad truth is the N is still far behind. I don't understand why people try to argue this, The N was meant for corners, and will ruin any MK7 around the track, it wasn't meant to be for straight line racing, from the gearing ratios to the way the engine puts down power. This is what your N made with 50% METH 480BHP Veloster N 2.0T - LAP3 GTX2867 Turbo Upgrade The World's most powerful N is back again with 411ps/51.82kgm (405whp/375ft-lbs) on dynojet after 15-20% drivetrain loss. The customer brought boost juice(50% methanol content) for tuning, and we finalized the mapping just over 400WHP all the way to the redline with peak boost of 24psi. We unlocked the redline to 7200RPM for a broader power band! ( 50% METH) LOL. Look at ANY GTI with those SAME MODS and it will be over 500HP AND 440WHP. APR STAGE 2 for mk7 GTI WITHOUT METH OR TURBO UPGRADE gives you 330WHP. Keep trying and crying
Its a perfect hothatch for me. Everything else is either too expensive or not as fun as this. If you want better interior you gotta look at more expensive cars. And Hot hatches are supposed to be affordable sports cars
I don't know how you reviewed this car and didn't mention that beautiful exhaust! The sound is amazing! How do they make this 4 banger sound so great but the twin turbo V6 Stinger sounds like a vacuum cleaner??
@@savagegeese the DCT has a quieter exhaust than the Manual variant. Hyundai used different designs for the mufflers. Lots of DCT owners in Korea are switching over to the manual axleback. All this needs is a resonator delete to open up the sound.
Bought a 2021 6 speed. The new seats are definitely worth it. Interestingly from a roll its as fast as my buddy's 16' Golf R, so I guess the DCT would be slightly faster. Can't wait to take it to the track now, the little I experimented with it on the road it's looking promising.
I don't have the DCT, but I do have a 2020 Manual and I absolutely love this car. I've added quite a bit of performance mods and this thing is a beast now.
I don't need the radio in my i30 Fastbavk N either. The exhaust is my entertainment and if i need the radio it's "good enough". Really looking forward testing the DCT version. Plastics are "cheap" but good bit i didn't buy this car for the interior either just as i didn't buy my Mustang GT back then for it's interior. Both cars are special in their own respect, one offers fun driving for a 4 popper, the other one has a V8.
Top comment from reddit: Looking around local dealers I see the Hyundai Veloster N somewhat as a hard sell. It was smart of Hyundai to include a non-performance package version at launch to get the notion that the cars were much cheaper than competitors or in a middle space between the GTI and Type R. However, looking online now the gap between a Veloster N and Civic Type R is around $3k now. On the lower end, you can get either GLI/GTIs for around $8k less with VW offering 60-72 month loans with 0% APR. The bigger issue is that my local Hyundai/Kia dealers are some of the biggest shysters around. I am talking mandatory dealer options and doc fees to the tune of around $1500. Looking at a Kia Stinger was the worst dealership experiances I ever had and their old school profit tatics keeps me from ever considering anything from the brands.
I work at a used car superstore and we got on of these in on a local trade. The exhaust noise and driving impression were fantastic for a Veloster. I definitely would consider this as a hot hatch option.
Everyone making good hot hatches is a good thing. Nobody can rest on their success, everyone has to keep pushing to make their hatch better. Still love my MKV GTI though.
t’s been obvious for a few years that Hyundai/Kia has been competing with Volkswagen head-to-head (car-to-car) and I wouldn’t have believed it ten years ago had I been told of their success against the German giant, today. @@dougrobinson8602 My mother went and bought a brand new Hyundai Palisade and within a month the power window motor blew and they gave her the hardest time about fixing it for free even having bought the warranty which covered it.
Are you guys gonna do a video that does more in-depth coverage of Jack's GTI? I was hoping this would be a full on comparison. I'm biased as a GTI owner, but would love slightly more coverage - especially after Jack's comment on IG that "I like the GTI less the more I drive it".
That's a good way of putting it I think. I had a base GTI DSG for a couple years, and it was a great car, but perfectly described by the old adage "jack of all trades, master of none". It's a great daily, but not anywhere near as exciting as a real sports car. Everything is light and but with very little feeling. Thing is, I test drove the Veloster N manual when I was selling the GTI, and I expected the veloster to be more edgy and exciting, but it felt very similar, aside from manual vs auto. And the veloster interior frankly makes the GTI feel like an Audi.
@@spacepxl it’s funny you say that, cause I thought the exact same. The Veloster was a little more exciting but I felt the diff, brakes, and trans were similar to the GTI. Mine is a 19 SE w/Experience, and the DCC makes the GTI ride amazingly well, the stereo is phenomenal, and it’s just so refined. I’m 22 years old and even felt the trade off for 10% more veloster excitement wasn’t worth it at all with such a bad interior, weird looking car, and stuff ride.

Sucks you guys in the U.S. have to deal with stupid Markups as the Type R is reasonably priced at it's MSRP, here in the UK we have don't usually have to deal with this BS with the Type R but however with the GR Yaris the supercar dealers that get their hands on one mark them up, as a Brit I know how Mark ups can be irritating
type R because it's larger and in many areas "better", but I wonder if it would be as fun around town considering the veloster has way better sound. i could also just modify the type r for better sound if i wanted

@@KP-xi4bj That was almost a decade ago. Hyundais are much better built now. You should google Honda transmission problems from the mid 2000s while you're at it. You're stuck in 2010 land if you're using old news as your source.
@@roostertailspice2482It's laughable you're comparing Honda transmission problems to Hyundais, Kias and Geneses catching fire. It shows just how braindead Hyundai/Kia/Genesis fanboys/-girls are. Here's an example: "Hyundai issued safety recalls (NHTSA IDs: 21V-160 and 21V-161) this month for Model Year 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis, 2017-2020 Genesis G80 and 2019-2021 Genesis G70 vehicles. The anti-lock brake system modules could malfunction internally and cause an electrical short over time, potentially resulting in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving." @@KP-xi4bj Did you just tried to write a paragraph to explain something simple? Nice try you pretentious slob. You seriously think Hyundai is the only company that has parts that might catch on fire? Well that's tough for a blind fanboy like you because Honda does too. Even Toyota had problems with their hybrid batteries back in the day. Nice try but you're delusional.
@@roostertailspice2482 Wow! You Hyundai/Kia/Genesis fanboys/-girls are so desperate picking on recalls for cars that are almost 20 years old. I bought a 22 Veloster n DCT. Best decision ever so far. Insane fun. The Audio is utter crap, but I just stick a bluetooth speaker on the passenger seat. Yes the panels are low quality plastic crap, but the driving experience is 100/100. Literally a go kart on drugs. It's incredibly fun. The only annoying thing is that you HAVE to get good winter tires. One thing about the DCT. If you are in N mode and you FLOOR it to high speed, the DCT shifts so hard it punches you in the back. It makes the car feel like a rocket. It's awesome. Crazy composed at high speed.
How is it treating you? I always found the Veloster to be incredibly ugly. Test drove a DCT yesterday just for the hell of it. Within 2 minutes of driving it, I really liked it. I switched it into N mode and I immediately knew that I no longer care about the looks.....I need this car. Wife still thinks I need to test drive more options. But this thing probably already has my heart.
@@Catgat37 Just make sure you change the oil much more than recommended. I'm doing every 3k. Also, I highly recommend getting different wheels and tires. The stock rims are 19 inches and the tires only add 2 or so inches to that. What that means is that if you hit a pothole or something, there is VERY little cushion. The impact can throw off your front tire sensors. Go 17" rims for more tire. I plan to get one summer set and one winter set. As far as oil choice, any S+ synthetic works, but i'm a huge fan of amzoil. If you are going to be driving the car hard, getting an oil cooler is a good idea as oil deteriorates hard at high temps. An add-on oil cooler has a valve that turns on when the engine gets above 200F. Hyundai also doesn't fix engines. They treat them as disposable, so make sure you don't add mods that invalidate the warranty. There is a decent chance you are going to have to replace the engine at least once in the next 5 years. The best part? The warranty is not made invalid by using this car on a racetrack so drive it hard. Go for it.
@@risingwind8943 they discontinued them. The likelihood of me finding a new one with a warranty is slim chance. I am not going to mod it at all if I get one. I am too old to hang out at car meets and such. I just want something fun. The one I drove is stock and it is exactly what I have been looking for as far as driving experience goes.
@@Catgat37 You can definitely still find a '22 N dct still under warranty. It's a 10 year 100k mile warranty. No one has done 100k miles since '22 except airline pilots. Whether you can find one for sale is the hard part.
I never wonder how Savagegeese can get any better, but they never stop surprising me. Would love to see a review on the Infiniti QX55 and new the Audi A3 Sedan.
I'm a manual guy and I recently test drove a Veloster N too and I HATE saying it but the DCT is really damn good. Especially that grin shift where it powershifts from gear to gear, you can feel the transmission doing its thing and it didn't feel like a soulless transmission. I have yet to drive the manual and for a hot hatch I think I'd still prefer a manual but I won't judge you for getting a DCT, it's pretty good.

Doesn't coolant always get hot, in every car? Do you mean engine overheating. Just curious, I've never heard anyone say coolant got hot.

Last time I was this early SavageGeese was still living with his mom and spending every paycheck on upgrading his supercharged BRZ GT86.
Thanks 🙏

Subscribing to savagegeese has left me with a feeling of uncontrollable power I've previously only felt after activating my almonds.

I guarantee Hyundai would have sold way more i30N’s in North America in place of the veloster. That’s what kept me from getting an N.
The i30N sportback is SO damn sexy! I would gladly trade this for that.
We also have an ordinary Elantra GT, and respect its abilities as an everyday car. The N would be a fun extension if that practicality.
(Contrary to a common misunderstanding such a tune does not invalidate the GTI's warranty.)
All in all, Mr. Biermann and his associates continue to do an outstanding job on Hyundai and KIA vehicles. But I wouldn't give up my GTI for a Veloster N.
hence, GTI is more of all arounder for sure

@@darylaarons6625 agreed. Heavy bass for home theater movies?-fantastic. For actual music? Uhhh...no except when used to further disguise some of the crap and redundancy that’s being churned out as music these days.

That dual clutch is a superb addition. I’m a manual preferred but facing the realities of what the next phases are in drivetrain evolution, this is a pleasant treat. Hoping the reliability (aside from warranty) is above the other dual clutch providers in that segment .

I bought the elantra n line, i was super impressed with speed of the shifting and fun daily driver!!!.
Can anyone imagine a veloster N "R" with the corporate 2.5T tuneup for performance, awd, with a hardcore adjustable suspension and a much better selection of materials for the interior?
This would definitely would place the veloster with the golf R and Honda type R
...and be $50-60K easily.
Next level editing off the top...bravo you guys! One of the many reasons why this is one of the best automotive channels on TH-cam
I met jack the other day and he had the red veloster, wanted to say cool car until I saw who it was😂
When I was looking for a newer, affordable fast hatch it was down to this, the Mazda3T, and the GTI (DSG).
And now I would say for the price Mazda 3 turbo 2.5
Then veloster N
Then golf the last
Personal opinion Mazda turbo 35k cad
Veloster N 41-43k
Good gti not the R 45+ K
I love my GTI but I understand when comparing these 2 cars, in sacrifice of speed you gain a little luxury. You can always tune your GTI a bit to catch up ;) I feel a bit more grown up in a GTI.
GTI is much more luxurious and practical. It's not even close.
Yes, two people can sit in comfort in the back of the GTI.
SPEAK TO ANY TUNER, the way the Ns ENGINE is designed it will NEVER be able to gain as much power as the MK7 platform let alone the MK8 platform
The second tuning is involved the N will be out of the picture Btw the MK7 platform that came out 8 years ago was doing 400whp by the 2nd year. The sad truth is the N is still far behind.
I don't understand why people try to argue this, The N was meant for corners, and will ruin any MK7 around the track, it wasn't meant to be for straight line racing, from the gearing ratios to the way the engine puts down power.
This is what your N made with 50% METH 480BHP Veloster N 2.0T - LAP3 GTX2867 Turbo Upgrade
The World's most powerful N is back again with 411ps/51.82kgm (405whp/375ft-lbs) on dynojet after 15-20% drivetrain loss. We addressed the stock 2.0T GDI fueling limitation with a WMI system.
That warranty is such a great thing they offer. Interior does look very economy. I think this would have been a great car for me 10 years ago.
Its a perfect hothatch for me. Everything else is either too expensive or not as fun as this. If you want better interior you gotta look at more expensive cars. And Hot hatches are supposed to be affordable sports cars

Top comment from reddit:
Looking around local dealers I see the Hyundai Veloster N somewhat as a hard sell.

Go for it.

I have yet to drive the manual and for a hot hatch I think I'd still prefer a manual but I won't judge you for getting a DCT, it's pretty good.
