    Coming out of a 2015 mk7 Golf R DSG, which I loved, especially the DCT and the individual options for comfort normal and sport as I loved having the DCC in comfort and everything else in sport. It was a lease so I had to return it and even though the mk8 is really tempting, after you tik all the boxes, it would end up costing over $10,000 more than I spent on my mk7 R and I'm trying to find something that going to be a lesser payment than my $40,000 mk7 so I think this is the car for me. And from what I've read and watched, the veloster N is a lot more precise and smile-inducing in terms of performance and handling then the golf R. And since I live in South Florida with no snow and no potholes, who needs the AWD. And I'll finally get to experience what a true front LSD feels like. Can't think of anything better for the price. Thanks for the review 👍

    The elephant in the room still bothers me a bit. I've driven only manuals for 50 years and like driving. But the DCS being a full second faster to 60 bugs me a little. Still, I'm retiring in one week. YAY!!!! So I'll no longer have a daily commute. Yeah, okay, that's it. I'll get the manual N. Hopefully they still have the manual in the 2022 model.

      It’s not as bad, but tapping a plastic paddle will never be as fun as engaging/disengaging the clutch manually and the notchy feeling of shifting it into gear yourself. It’s also rewarding when u get a great 0-60 or do good rev match because it’s actually u doing it not a computer chip.

(Please take note the Veloster N only comes with Summer Only Tires and do not work well in temps below 40° F. Ofcourse mine is FBO with a JB4 tune. I have driven my friends DCT and its very quick and much easier to launch and in my opinion just as fun! I am still curious to see how the DCT holds up to mods. I've seen the seats during a track run and they move quite a bit, they flex a little too much. Also, though they are performance seats, they actually are not harness ready. Though I love the seat design and logo light, I likely will be replacing them and installing harnesses. The tech options and custom tuning is awesome! The warranty likely doesn't cover the clutch packs. ?? What's the cost to have the clutch packs replaced, and can you put in more aggressive ones? Also, they use some odd named turbo that makes me question durability.

    Tbh I'm bummed that the DCT is getting all the spotlight for the new 2021 veloster Ns. I love the 2021 re-design but would never buy anything other than a 6spd manual if I'm looking for a "fun car". Hopefully Hyundai lets some 2021 6 speeds out for the youtube guys to review, I work too much to just go out & test drive them myself (and dealerships are always condescending dickheads to people in their 20s like me)

      There’s a good reason for it... drove both and the dct is so much better. Ended up with the dct N.

      No.one is buying the manual so instead of them killing off the car, they offer the DCT so they can save it. Manuals are fun but not as daily drivers or when you have a family and spouse who drives your car sometimes

      Eh, depends on the person. My wife and I both daily drive manual cars in Atlanta traffic and have no complaints. I will be ordering this car in 6MT as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

      I just bought my 2022 Veloster N 6 MT. I personally just like the connection you get to the car when driving the 6 speed. The DCT is definitely faster of course, but I just prefer driving a stick.

    I personally don’t believe the gas mileage is worse in the dct, at least for highway driving...

    Would this be a good car to learn manual with?

      There are easier cars to learn on (Toyota Corolla, VW Golf) but this isn’t bad either. I learned manual on an AWD car and that was tougher.

    Paved California canyons and majestic Italian mountain roads ask little from their visitors beyond a skill set and appropriate motor but we all know what makes 'em smile.....those who arrive to the party with a muscular left leg and strong right arm. Tutte le strade meritano tre pedali.

    Why did you sell your Evo 9? It's a lot better car than the Hyundai i30N.

    • @ShiftingLanes
      @ShiftingLanes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s something I ask myself every once in a while. Traded it for a BMW 335i at the time and thought of it as an “upgrade”. Selling the EVO IX is one of my regrets.

      @@tylerp3397 It's not the car. I am talking about any car. I have driven manual's my whole life. I have owned 3 automatics in my over 30 years of driving including the New Charger Daytona with the wonderful ZF 8 speed. And frankly auto's are boring. I am actually thinking of getting rid of my car and going back to Subaru and getting an STI. And before you say well that's a different kind of car. I know I have had Chevy Cruze 6 spd, Cavalier, Optra, CRV, Santa Fe, Elantra touring wagon, Subaru WRX sport wagon all manual that were more fun then my Charger and my Trans am I had with an auto.. Auto's are just boring to me.No driving engagement. It's just not about how fast the gear changes are. It's about the driving experience. If your not engaged in a manual car your just not driving. Before you say well what about traffic I drive for work 60,000 km a year in the busiest corridor with the most traffic in the world and still love manual better.

      Not a good comparison. You could literally say the same about gas powered engines vs new electric motors. Makes no difference. It all comes down to driver preference.
