As an extremely happy and satisfied owner of a Kia Stinger I can say there is a huge amount of badge snobbery directed to Kia and Hyundai. A lot of people get very upset when they get smoked just "just a Kia bro". The brands have come a very long way in the last 10 years.

Honestly I don't mind the badge name anymore as I get older. The people moving into Dallas do care. *Cough Californians* I really dug into the stinger and thought it was a cool competitive car for it's price. I'm set on this Hyundai though.

People still think of them as the cars from the 80's and 90's. They're both so much better now. Hyundai has been up there with Toyota and Honda in reliability for almost 20 years, and Kia isn't far behind.

I own a 2019 in Chalk White with all the upgrades, in Canada we got one version and that being the top of the line. I drive this car hard and absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it. I changed the tires and had a brake job at 75k (45,000 miles). They are value packed, well built and anyone who ignores it as a vehicle choice due to their perceived image of the brand is missing out.

Without a doubt one of the best cars Hyundai has ever produced, they’ve stepped up their game in recent years. I’ve tried to bait Volesters into racing but they never bite, I never see them race, at local car meets, shows, etc, so it’s easy to leave them out of any car conversation, or consider them part of the tuner scene. Numeric Indicator Experimental - The first electronic digital readout. Developed by Burroughs in the 1950s, a Nixie tube is a vacuum tube filled with neon that contains 10 wires formed in the shape of the digits 0 through 9. The wires are attached to cathodes on one end and a wire mesh anode on the other. When voltage in the range of 170 to 250 volts is applied to the wire, it glows. Nixie tubes gave way to LED displays in the 1970s.

Thought that too. But like Sarah said it might have started to spin too much and lose the power that way. The manual gearbox would have solved this one too, with a precise use of the clutch of course.

I have a '19 Veloster PP (Performance Blue) and driving the DCT back to back with mine shows the DCT is a touch faster. I am surprised it wasn't mentioned that you cannot easily fit under the steering wheel if you are over 5'8"! I had to spend $900 to get a flat bottomed wheel. The last thing is that I have had a lot of really nice cars, but this, bar none, gets more compliments, "what is that!?!", and head turns than any other - weird I know.

Got my 2020 VN for $28,500 with performance pack. 2020 Type R are all marked up to $48k. The N is hands down the better car for the price, and with a couple mods can beat the Type R in a straight line as well and still be $17k cheaper

Sounds like the NGS is equivalent to the "Push to Pass" feature on an IndyCar, where when pressed the driver gets an extra 15 hp for a limited amount of time, depending on the track they're on (usually about 100 seconds of boost total).
Love that outfit on you too, Sarah! :)

Great review as always - I really enjoy that your reviews sound more honest and real than most others, which sounds like the reviewer is reading the same script over and over again. Little things like a common-sense statement that hard plastic interiors _make sense_ in a sports car. You also have the *_best_* rating system. :P
If you were curious, those tube-number displays are called Nixie Tubes; very old tech from 1950s. Looked _super_ cool but used like 15x more power than LED, and lasted about 1/20th as long.

In a world dominated SUVs, CUVs and big trucks, it's refreshing to see Hyundai/Kia pushing out cars like the Stinger and Veloster N. Now its our job to go buy them.

I just started watching your review of the 2021 Veloster N, and I am going to guess that it will earn 4 beans, 4 cookies and 3 1/2 penguins. Oops, I just heard what you said about the infotainment; make that 4 penguins! Hyundai is fast gaining respect for their cars, and it is well deserved! Okay, I still can’t guess what your ratings will be, but it was obvious that you like this car. I agree!

Or a Kona N. Hyundai has 3 full blown N models in its stable. I hope Hyundai make a Venue N in the near future. I want something that is mini size (I20N) and not $30k plus.
