      @@Merryfrankster_ Thanks, I've watched several of your videos and spent some time under the car and it's all making more sense. The big question; is this something I can reach by taking out parts from the top of the engine? Or does the transmission need to come out? As for the washers, any 8mm diameter (bolt size) or should I seek a specific width or thickness? Thanks again for sharing your expertise!

    I'm going to be replacing my C66 with a C60 on an MR2. Do I need to use a 2zz clutch or flywheel or will a 1zz work? Thanks.

    • @Merryfrankster_
      @Merryfrankster_  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Flywheel fits on the engine. 1zz flywheel is different from 2zz flywheel. If you are not changing engine you do not need to change flywheel. Clutch for C60 is same as clutch for C66 .You do not need to change clutch. This means you can pull the old trans off and put the new one on without doing anything with your clutch or flywheel - unless you want to.

    Hi Frank. Thanks for the video, it's very helpful. I am rebuilding a C60 I bought and it came without the shaft. I ordered the correct shaft but I do not have any of the springs/levers that go on it (for lack of a shaft in the first place). Are the ones on the C56 compatible and can they be transferred over? Thanks again.

    • @Merryfrankster_
      @Merryfrankster_  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The components from the C56 are completely different and th shifter will not work with them. You need to find a c60/C64/C65/C66 shaft from a used transmission, and transfer all the parts to your shaft, or purchase all the parts from Toyota.

      Celica or Corolla from early to mid 2000's - however you must either swap the middle case or modify it because the gear selection shaft comes out on the opposite side in the FWD drive vehicles. Download the complete MR2 Spyder factory service manual, it includes the transmission chapter.

      @Merryfrankster_ I have a corolla tsport with low kms and always change the fluid every 20.000 kms (12.400 miles) or 4 years👍 but I have a little whining/humming noise on first 3 gears especially on 3rd in low rpm drive and uphill, but is very smooth on use. I hear the sound only with closed windows and music off

    • @Merryfrankster_
      @Merryfrankster_  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A humming noise is typically a bearing and there are many bearing inside the trans. For example a humming noise can come from an input shaft bearing, or from an output shaft bearing, or from the differential, or even from the clutch. Just keep driving it until the noise gets worse and can be identified. @@DimoS...

      @Merryfrankster_ thank you very much for the info. Can bearing break and damage the trans easy?is it closed type right? if it is when I change the clutch, I should change all the bearings as a precaution

    • @Merryfrankster_
      @Merryfrankster_  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's tough to diagnose these noises. Does the noise increase with engine RPM, or with the wheel speed. Do you hear the noise if you race the engine in neutral, car stationary. If yes, it's on the clutch or the input shaft. If no, do you hear the noise when coasting at speed in neutral. If so, it's on the output shaft or the differential. If you have a problem with an output shaft bearing it can lead to damage on the pinion or the differential ring gear. Damaged bearings can also cause excessive wear on the gears. Drain your fluid, and check for any metallic magnetic debris i.e. steel. If you find excessive magentic debris then it is definitely time to do a maintenance or repair on the trans. Some non-magnetic debris is normal, this is syncro material. Sorry that I don't have anything conclusive.@@DimoS...

    If I already have a six speed but don't know which model it is, how do I identify which model I have?

    • @Merryfrankster_
      @Merryfrankster_  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ouch this is a really tough one. There are no distinguishing marks on the transmissions. They all have a "C60" engraving but this does not mean they are C60. Your best way to identify your transmission will be to log your speed versus rpm in each gear, and compare them to the known speed versus rpm for each transmission, based on its gear ratios and final drive. This is kind of tedious and I actually had to do it once for a "mystery" transmission of unknown origin, it works.

    • @Merryfrankster_

      It's a trade-off between highway rpm and torque. You have the best highway rpm but the worst torque unfortunately. Sorry that is just the way it works.

      @Merryfrankster_  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the cons are over-exaggerated, you will do just fine for every day driving. On the track it would be a different story, that is where a tightly wound C60 or even tighter C64 really shines.

      @absolutezero7344 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Merryfrankster_ I'm in a similar boat to Char, except my MR-S already has a C56-01B (Torsen LSD), so the main advantage to swapping to the C60/64 transmission would only be for the shortened ratios.
      The problem is a lot of the 2zz 6 speeds around here tend to have bad 2nd and/or 3rd gear synchros, so finding one in good condition is getting pretty hard ($$).
      Another thing I heard is the 2ZZ-C56 is potentially more useful for autocross and mountain/canyon driving due to the longer 2nd gear helping keep the car over 100kph before needing to shift to 3rd, when compared to the 2zz 6 speeds.
      Do you have any suggestions Frank? Should I try the 2zz-C56 or try and find a 2ZZ-C6x gearbox?

      @@absolutezero7344 my personal opinion - if you are not that hung up on wanting to stay in lift on shifting gears then C56 is fine. And I can tell you from my own experience auto-xing a 2zz that a little bit longer 2nd gear would be a god-send on fast courses (which typically just have one or maybe two long straight-aways), avoiding a shift into third then a downshift back to 2nd. on most typical auto-x courses you will be in 2nd the whole time.
