  • The Toyota C60 transmission is a close ratio transmission that is paired with Toyota's high performance 4-cylinder engine, the 2zz-ge, found in Celica, Corolla, Matrix, and Lotus Elise. Disassembling the transmission is needed for internal repairs (synchronizers or bearings) or upgrades (limited slip differential/LSD). This can be done with commonly available tools without any need for factory Special Service Tools (SST). As always, we follow closely the step-by-step instructions of the factory service manual. It is strongly suggested that anyone attempting this procedure obtain a copy of this document, for reference.
    Get your C60 Transaxle Factory Service Manual from this link:
    drive.google.com/file/d/1B3-W...
    This video should be of interest to anyone reparing or upgrading a C60 treanmission whether in original vehical or used in a 2zz-ge or 2zr-fe swap.
    Disassembling the gears from the input and output shaft will be covered in another video.
    NOTE: There are a few very brief segments of missing footage, for removing the gear selector shaft, the cover, the fifth gear and syncro removal (which lifts right off), and, more importantly, the upper shift fork snap ring. These are all relatively self-explanatory. Sorry for the missing footage.

      @@Merryfrankster_ be well sir!
      by the way on my c60 in 1st 2nd 3rd gear there is a small hum 1500-2500rpm with the windows closed and no music, someone told me it's the bearings in the gearbox but they don't break they just sound! is this true sir or is it dangerous? the hum is not heard if I have some music on or the window is open, i.e. it is weak, not strong, and no crackling

    • @Merryfrankster_
      @Merryfrankster_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DimoS... yes it's possible it is a shaft bearing but it could also be from the clutch or clutch release bearing. If it gets worse you might have to investigate further and it if is livable just leave it alone. Just FHI 1st and 2nd gear syncros are on the output shaft and 3rd gear syncro is on the input shaft so the noise you report does not seem correlated to a specific shaft. Humming transmissions is nothing new, on other cars Toyota has TSB's for humming transmissions where they suggest replacing the axles then replacing the transmission mounts before finally replacing the entire transmission if the humming noise does not go away. Take all this with a grain of salt as I have not heard your noise and have absolutely no idea what is causing it.

    Hello! I have only one problem with this gearbox on my Toyota powered Lotus Elise - 3rd gear grinding when gearbox is cold. 2 to 3 shifting. What is the required parts BEFORE I take transmission out from the car? Only synchrogear 33368-20090 or should I pre order something else? Thanks for your video and answer.

      Did you try changing transmission fluid? Sometimes this solves the issue of cold transmission grinding. Redline MT90 is good. Anyway depending on how much wear or damage you find, you may need to change both the syncro ring and the hub.

    • @Merryfrankster_

      It is similar but not exacty the same. The biggest difference is in gears 5 and 6. The five-speed has no gear 6 to remove. There is also a difference in the reverse lockout. Other than that it is mostly the same.

    Hello from Florida, hope you can send me inbox the right direction. I remove all the components of the SMT HPU & GSA. The Transmission is in Neutral shaft with screwdriver in upright vertical. I can roll the vehicle, but the engine is rotating as if it's in gear. I can shift through gears, or place transmission gear and that locks the engine and the car won't roll. there is one gear on the top forward counter clockwise position duplicates allowing the car to roll with the engine rotating. Im not sure what gear it is. I'm not a transmission guy but I'm not afraid to open the trans if I have to. but I'm not sure what to look for?

    Can I pay you for a phone call? I have a 2003 Pontiac Vibe GT w/ 2ZZ-GE w/6 speed manual . I (just me on my own) recently replaced the drive shafts and axle seals. Since then, at lower revs, I have some pretty significant lateral vibration that goes away as I speed up. I thought that maybe I bent the mount/bracket that couples with the intermediate bearing on the passenger side drive shaft as I really had to beat on it to free the passenger side drive shaft from it to get the old one out.
    But now, in addition to the vibration, it is becoming increasingly difficult to shift in and out of gears and I assume that the clutch is not fully disengaging as it almost always grinds going into reverse even when I am stopped and the clutch pedal is fully depressed.
    So far, I have done everything on this car myself with success from sub frame replacement, rear engine mount, steering knuckles, struts, wheel bearings, parking brakes, fuel tank, evap system cleanout/overhaul, and more. The drive shaft and oil seal project is the first one I have undertaken with (apparent) resulting issues.
    I would be glad to compensate you for time on the phone if you may be able to help me troubleshoot the issue. If I have to take my car to the mechanic, I will, but I would prefer to know what's going on first.
    Thank you

    Solid tear down. Video. Question,
    If I pulled a c60 w/lsd and want the final drive from the toyota matrix, do I just need to remove and replace 6th gear?

    • @Merryfrankster_
      @Merryfrankster_  หลายเดือนก่อน

      To change final drive, you change the differential ring gear and the entire output shaft, with the output shaft pinion matching the ring gear. Final drive has nothing to do with 6th gear.

    • @Ma70rk
      @Ma70rk หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Merryfrankster_ ok, so if I want the taller 6th gear out of the matrix for better highway fuel economy, whole output shaft needs to come out?

    • @Merryfrankster_
      @Merryfrankster_  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Ma70rk No, if you want to change the final drive, which is what you asked, the output shaft has to come out. If you want to change sixth gear, that's a different question, you can do that just swapping sixth gear from your donor vehicle on both input shaft and output shaft. Words have meaning. Final drive does not mean highest gear.

    • @Merryfrankster_
      @Merryfrankster_  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@diehardcat You do not need any electronics whatsoever. If this is a street driven car you do not need an LSD. and with 1zz stock power, LSD is nearly pointless anyway. Just do a Corolla fifth gear swap on your C56, it lowers the gear ratio from 0.8x to 0.7x, and you will be set.
